What a fun read!

I have had this book on my bookshelf for many years now, and in my bid to complete my Goodreads book challenge and to read all the books that are on my bookshelf before I buy anymore, I picked this one up.

I think I may have read a few pages in the past and given up, having not been instantly caught up in it. However, this time I was not giving up so easily. Boy am I glad I didn't. This book is fun, flirty, funny and ultimately a great read. The more I read the harder it became to put down.

*SPOILER ALERT*

The book follows a three women as the main protagonists, Gloria, Lorna and Sandy. Gloria, a hairdresser who has worked her way up to having her own salon, visited by the elite of Ireland, is struggling to pursue the dream she has of expanding her salon due to her money grabbing ex Frank, who having run off with another woman, Flame, hasn't quite cut all ties as he potters back to take advantage of the tills takings.
Lorna, PR genius, running her own successful business has hit a monumental bump in the road in the form of her accountant, who has just run off with her tax payments, leaving Lorna in trouble with the Government over unpaid tax bills. Lorna finds herself, after years of working hard, schmoosing her way around town, nearly in ruins and looking for the job that can pull her out of it.
Sandy, having returned to Ireland with the promise of a stellar job on the Rory McRoy radio show, now finds herself at her wits end, with a boss who all but paws her every chance he gets, leading a show as dull as ditchwater, and wondering what the hell she was thinking in leaving the career she had built up in London behind. Demanding more from the ultimate radio boss, she is given her own show - but being put on the spot means that she plugs a radio piece that she must now try to attain.

Introducing Mr Xavier Big - an Irish American billionaire, whose mother has just passed away leaving him in a lake of mourning, and being thrice divorced, looking for an Irish Colleen for his next wife.

Instructing his PA, Liam, a man with ideals of becoming the next big Pulitzer prize winning author, to put out an advertisement to find his next wife in Ireland, Liam becomes embroiled in the task of finding said wife.

Further characters, full of wit, intensity, desperation and longing add to the fun adventures that are met along the way in this bizarre but devilishly fun read.

Would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a light-hearted rom com romp - definitely not just one for the beach holidays!

What a nice and easy read! The story was funny (lots of LOL moments), refreshing because it was completely different from any book I have read before. The whole story, writing reminded me of Jerome K. Jerome's Three Men In A Bout. This book makes very many references to Ireland and Irish, so not everybody might understand all the jokes but it was kind of why I liked it. They are like hidden gems and I hope to read the book later once again and get them or maybe not. I have to note that it was also predictable, so it might put somebody off. Oh well, I sure enjoyed it.

Well I picked this up to read last week. lately I only read 30 minutes in bed.
I caught myself laughing and giggling a few times.

This was a fun read. I felt it was a mix between a chick lit and a Maeve Binchy book. Very warm book.
You get to know what happens next to all the people involved.
Offered this in the January Chick lit swap on bookobsessed

Didn't realise I'd read this before until I got stuck into. Very silly, but fun in parts, & there were some beautiful bitchy bits. The story was OK but I didn't really care about any of the characters. Quite satirical, I guess, particularly Xavier Big's & Flame's characters. Not particularly memorable, though.

Reading this seemed like a good idea at the time, Perhaps it works better for Irish/Americans.

A good book with a nice light-hearted ending. Rather too long for bus or beach reading, I think.
