Chastely Bitten is hot, unique and super entertaining! I was glued to each page and could not put it down. I got lost in this story and didn’t want to come back to reality when it was over. I can’t wait to read more in this series!

The world has changed. Vampires and lycans have ascended. They rule and humans are food.

The Blood Alliance has been formed. It’s a global council of equal parts lycan and vampire. Everything is distributed evenly between them including territory and blood slaves.
Humans are property and carry no legal rights. They are tagged and sorted based on merit, intelligence, bloodline, ability, and beauty.

Juliet is a twenty-two year old blood virgin. The book opens with her stood naked on a podium while vampires bid to own her. Her entire life has been spent preparing for this moment and there’s a good chance she won’t live beyond the night.

Darius is prepared to pay any price for Juliet. But he wants her for more than just her blood and her body. Although that is a huge part. Darius is old and as a vampire he has time on his hands. He’s playing the long game. He’s about to change everything and he needs Juliet to help him. But her entire life has been spent conditioning her and he needs to break that. And he hopes there’s enough left but of her when he’s finished.

I loved the world building and really enjoyed this book. And I can’t wait for the next one which I was surprised to discover doesn’t feature Darius and Juliet but Kylan.

Anyway back to this book.
As I said I really enjoyed this book but...

Juliet annoyed me a lot of the time. It’s hard to be too harsh when you consider her life and her training. Everything is new and totally against everything she’s been taught. But it seemed a little repetitive in places and she annoyed me and then I felt guilty that she’d annoyed me. Not so much in the beginning because I expected it but later when I felt she should have known better. Maybe it’s just me the more I read and the older I get the less patience I have.

Despite this it’s a great read and now I’m not so patiently waiting for the next book.

This one was just okay. This is the first book in a post-apocalyptic series where vampires rule earth and humans are slaves and servants. Juliet is a blood virgin and is sold to Darius. He buys her for a certain reason and spends the book trying to break her of her training of being subservient as a slave and they start falling for each other. It was fine, but not anything enticing or amazing. Juliet went back on trusting Darius a bit too much when it came to when he had to pretend to use her in public. She knew it was an act, but would forget and agonize over how she could have ever trust him. This happened quite a few times and it took back all of the progress they made throughout the book each time. I probably won't pick up the next book.

Intriguing......I believe that is the best way to describe book 1 in the Blood Alliance. Foss meticulously prepared the ground work for the world build. The right information was given at the right time. Great appreciation for Foss not being redundant in her explanation of this world. You do have to give this book your complete attention. I would not suggest this as a multi-tasked read. The intricacies of the book do not need to be overlooked.

Deeply intelligent.....Darius is beyond clever and deviously patient. His end game is to free humans and for them to regain their place in the world but this can only be accomplished through great sacrifice. With the bond forming between him and Juliet the sacrifices are becoming too much. Even he can not hide his depth of possessiveness for what is his, Juliet.

Brain washed, resilient.....Juliet was born and chosen as a blood virgin. She has never known a man and has never given anyone her blood. Juliet was raised to be submissive and obey the "greater race" of vampires. However she is quickly learning all she thought was the truth is lies as Darius educates her on the true history of humans and guides her to think for herself.

Juliet is the hiccup for me on this one preventing it from being a 5 star. I wanted to see a bit more rebellion from her. Perhaps it is too much to ask considering how she was raised, but I do wish she had questioned more, including questioning her bond with Darius.

Excited to read book 2!

Happy reading! DD

3 A good start stars

I’m not sure why I picked up Chastely Bitten, maybe it was on one of those lists on Amazon? Anyhow, I’m a very picky PNR reader. I tend to like the traditionally published PNR books, but I do read some independently published ones every now and then, I think it’s because they usually have more sex in them.

I would classify this book as smut or erotica. It has so much of it, it needs to be lumped into that category. I have nothing against it, in fact, it was what I was looking for.

Just Fair Warning.

I like that each book focuses on a different couple. SO much happens that I don’t want to read another Juliet and Darius book.

There are some aspects of this book I liked and there are some aspects of the book I didn’t.

The main problem for me was the pacing and the lack of chemistry between Juliet and Darius. I found some parts a little forced and the wording a little awkward. But I hope as the series continues the writing gets better.

I liked the world building in this one. The humans are second class citizens and it’s the vampires and lycans that rule. It took me awhile to figure out lycans are werewolves, why didn’t the author say that, I don’t know.

I didn’t like the hunger games aspect of the book, where 12 humans are pitted against each other and the last two standing are allowed to become vampires. That was a little unoriginal for me, and I usually don’t harp on stuff like that, but that doesn’t happen in this book.

I liked the beginning. I liked that Juliet grew up to become a blood virgin. Let me explain what they are, they have never taken blood or had their blood taken and they are also a virgin.

Was there something something between the two main characters? Not really. I felt like Darius picked Juliet because she was pretty, even though her docket said she spoke many languages and is very smart, but she didn’t act like it.

I love me a good damsel in distress, but Darius trying to train Juliet was just sad to read. The writing was so forced!

I liked her submissive side, but when he tried to get her to “think” on her own, it just didn’t flow with the story or it simply wasn’t written well.

It’s very apparent that Darius doesn’t see humans as second class people and he has other motives and oh my gosh if you didn’t get that the first time, it will be bashed into your head over and over again. It was really repetitive. I felt like instead of the author keep on telling me this, just let me read it. Let me see what he does and what his friends do. Stop telling me about the game plan, the stuff in the works, Juliet as a weapon (which she wasn’t).

Yeah the book is really repetitive, I had to skim those parts.

The book was overall okay. I think if it didn’t have all of the smut I would have probably not finished the book.

I will give another book a go.

3.5 let the games begin Stars.

I really have no fucking clue how to rate this book cause this isn't your typical vampire read.

After humans lost the war and failed miserably to be top dog the Blood Alliance was born. Where humans are no more than cattle where they are divided into factions. Where vampires and the lycans rule with terror, manipulation, indoctrination where your choices are being a slave or death. Where blood virgins are coveted, and blood day is a memorable day for all.

Characters & Chemistry

Darius is vampire royalty and has been hiding for a century waiting to set long ago plans in motion. The time has come.

I have a love/hate relationship with Darius. He is always alpha, and he walks an extremely fine line sometimes too fine a line for my liking.

I hated him because he was so cold. Duh vamp I know but you could tell that he really cared for Juliet but although there was a part to play. He played it too well.

But then he would do something that would make me love him again.

Juliet is a blood virgin bought at auction she has been trained the last twenty two years to fulfil her sire's fantasies even it leads to her death she has been programmed to acquiesce.

I really liked Juliet and under normal circumstances she is not my kind of heroine. But due to the dystopian setting here and her upbringing her behaviour and lack of understanding fits.

The Chemistry between Darius & Juliet is incinerating but there were times where I struggled. Juliet is trained to submit and to respond to all vampires which happens because of her conditioning. I fully believe what Juliet feels for Darius. At times I felt that Darius reciprocated but fully at the end.

Writing, Plot & Pace

The Blood Alliance (more specifically the vamps) has mutated to something truly horrific. But there are key players who want to give humans their rights back and Darius and his mates Ivan and Trevor only to name a few.

A slight warning here it won't be for everyone. There is blood sharing with other vampires.

Some things were repeated on and off which I found annoying because that had already been mentioned maybe if the exact words had been copied and pasted it would be different.

The author gave us so much emotions and a truly unique plot that the ending felt somewhat anticlimactic to be honest. Nevertheless, the world that has been created is fantastic. The author put a lot of thought into it to make sure that it stands out compared to all of the vamp books out there. But in my opinion, it could have been more.

The Verdict

Why did I read this book? Well I signed up for book 2 kind of hard to read book 2 when you have no fucking clue what the overall plot is.

Usually not a fan of the fang but here I am a fan of the fang. It's a twisted and bloody world but I like it.

*Be aware that this review may contain spoilers*
*Trigger Warnings: Blood, Abuse, Slave Trade, Murder

I honestly didn't know what I was getting myself into with this story. But after I saw quite a few romance booktubers rave about this one here, and I don't see too many dark themed romances that delve into the paranormal genre and man this world was so addicting and the writing is deeply sensual and even though there was some slower pace moments, I couldn't seem to get enough of what is going on here. There were so many untold mysteries that will lead me to continue with this series and seeing how this world develops especially loved the "bromance" that is built within the story. And I just can't wait to see what happens with our hero's "adoptive father figure" in the story and hope we get a happy end there. Definitely an intriguing story that left me yearning for me and seeing this series grow.

This book does deal with darker themes of a heroine who is a slave and even though the hero is working on breaking the "conditioning" of it (which I loved) it takes time for her to come into her own identity and figure out what she is capable of. I am really fascinated by this world building and seeing the beginnings of finding a better way of what has happened to this futuristic world.

Deeply sensual and a romance that is worth fighting for.

This book was shallow and repetitive.

The main female character was poorly created. The supposedly mindset didn’t fit with her behaviour for me. She had emotional outbursts and inner tantrums although she was supposed to be conditioned otherwise. It would have been tolerable if it hadn’t been the same old struggle over and over again. The little development there was, was laughable at best. 1 step forward, 2 steps back. We went through the same emotional struggles over and over again. Like a broken record. It was tiresome. The fact that the main male character wanted her to evolve and simultaneously stay the way she was, didn’t help the matter at all.
And her absurd conclusions.

And don’t get me started on the plot.
There was a Dinner after a Dinner after a Dinner... with no end in sight. One blood sharing coupled with erotic scenes after the other ...
And the plot was standing still.

I had no interest at all to go on with this series.

What a refreshing take on vampires!

Chastely Bitten has all the conceptions of a typical vampire story in the fact that they drink blood. But how they acquire it, the fact that vampires aren’t a myth or legend but the real deal and the fact humans who once ruled the world are now bred like cattle for sustenance and slaughter, is a very good story indeed.

Juliet has always known one thing. That she was bred for purpose and that the only thing you can believe in is that humans, herself included were not meant to grow old and grey. She’s been taught to behave a certain way lest she be punished. She’s one of the thousands of humans bred to be whatever a vampire chooses them to be, and she’s come to terms with it because there is no other way to live. Freedom is a desire that isn’t hers to have.

Enter Darius. His purchase of Juliet, changes her outlook and belief system in a way that the reader definitely doesn’t expect. What a thrilling and innovative idea this author has created. The way she builds you up, you expect the worst so you dream the good but sometimes that’s not the case and the worst is the worst and the good is the good. But then suddenly, BAM! something comes out of the woodwork and your whole point of view changes!

I was expecting to like this story, I wasn’t expecting to fall completely in love with it. There’s so much more to this story than meets the eye and I cannot wait to find out what!

All you PNR and Lexi C. Foss fans are in for a massive treat!

So I read this one as A-the whole idea behind this series really intrigued my sense of curiosity: its just such an imaginative endeavour and B-I signed up to Arc read the next in this series and it's always better to start at the beginning and in this case no hardship at all as this was just fantastic reading.
This was a dark dystopian read: A world in the future where Vampires and Lycanthropes are now top of the food chain and humans are cattle: without any rights whatsoever and solely reduced to property totally at there masters will.
Juliet because of her unique bloodline is a blood slave: raised with a single purpose to serve a highborn master for however short a time that may be.
With her unique addictive flavour, these humans are the cream of the crop and sell for top dollar.
Purchased at auction by a new master with his own hidden agenda: Darius has a special assignment in place for his new blood slave.

16573133.gif

Dark, dirty and decadent 'Chastely Bitten' was such an intense experience and at times I felt a deep sense of dread down to the bottom of my very soul.
The pathetically short and horrendous lives these humans get to live out well death actually seemed like a small mercy offered up in comparison to there ongoing suffering.
So this was narrated in dual Pov which I do prefer.
Darius out of the two was the one I took longer to warm up to mainly because of his end game which involved using Juliet to accomplish his hidden agenda.
There were times he was so single-minded and coldly focused on his goals even to the detriment of Juliet's own personal safety that I struggled to like him.
Though I did get why he was this way as the importance of his agenda and the role he expected Juliet to play was bigger than his own wants and needs: it still was hard to take his disregard though.
Juliets confusion as she tries to overcome her conditioning while still at times having to portray an outward role for the benefit of others perusal was expected.
She is no longer a simple sheep but starting to think for herself which is entirely Darius's intention but he really wants her willing cooperation in these things and not just her blind obedience.
It's understandable that she struggles to some degree with this after years of indoctrination at the hands of her masters.
So there were some scenarios here that I wasn't much a fan of namely the blood sharing of Juliet.
It's for a reason other than just pure gratification so even though I didn't like it personally: I could still deal somewhat.
This was also as you would expect quite dark in places in regards to the current ongoing practices employed by the supernaturals towards the humans.
In my opinion, this is a great start to this series: there's an underground rebellion of the current system underway and I am ever so interested to see in what direction this is heading.
This really did set the stage brilliantly for future story progression a great read that I am happy to recommend.

Flipping heck..... Foss does it again.

Another absolute cracker of a read from start to finish. This author's imagination continues to enthrall and excite. In Chastely Bitten, we have a new world to discover, one where vampires rule and humans are bred for blood—and sex.

Enter Juliet, a human bred for the sole purpose of pleasing her master, in any way he chooses. Luckily for Juliet, she is purchased at an auction by Darius, an enigmatic vampire who has a different path he wants Juliet to walk—one far from her destiny as a blood slave.

I know... I just know, this series is going to be one I'll devour. It's right up there with the Immortal Curse series for sheer brilliance, rounded and intriguing characters, immense world building, and burn-your-ass-hot sex.

Grab your copy—trust me, you won't regret it!

2 stars! I wouldn’t recommend reading this if you’re looking for a romance, but if you want erotica? Then this one may be fine for you? I just couldn’t get past all of the debasement of human women and the gaslighting love interest.

The premise is that Darius purchases Juliet (a blood virgin, aka someone who had never been bitten and is a virgin), and someone who has been conditioned all her life to serve and obey her vampire masters. He wants to break her conditioning and form her into a tool that will help him get elected to the Blood Alliance council so that he can change the system where humans are treated as slaves to vampires and werewolves. So he basically wants her to keep up the veneer of subservience to anyone outside their house, but secretly she'll be helping him attempt to change the system.

I think what could've made this better is if we have more from the POV of Juliet. But since you're literally in Darius' head and you witness his thoughts, it's hard to redeem him, lol. He says he wants to break her conditioning, but his internal dialogue is him referring to her as a pretty little toy that he's excited he has her all to himself.
Example A:
And no one could touch her without my permission because she belonged to me.
To fuck.
To please.
To devour.
To share.
Anything I wanted.
Maybe it would've been fine if the reader got more of a sense from Juliet that she wanted to be dominated. And sometimes, she did, but other times she was just filled with self-doubt on how to please him. There was a situation where he was using her as bait and he knew that she would likely fail in her role, and this was a behind the scenes conversation while she was off as bait:
I fixed my tie and smiled good-naturedly at my closest friends. "Punishing her failure later will be fun."
Ivan swirled the contents in his flute, his gaze hard. "You're a sadistic ass, D."
"More like a genius," Trevor corrected.
"Don't worry, Ivan, I'll ensure she enjoys it too." Or I would try, anyways. It depended on just how badly she fucked this up.
This asshole knew she would fail and then pretended to be angry at her when she DID fail! SO SHE FELT LIKE SHE DESERVED PUNISHMENT!

Then at another part, he’s mad that she sees herself as only a blood virgin to be used, so you know what he says to her? “That’s not your purpose, Juliet. But if all you wish to do is please me, then get on your knees.” And then she gives him a blowjob. It just wasn’t romantic at all to me.

Perhaps I'll read another book in the series because each book follows a different couple and there were some intriguing concepts. But if the other books are similar to this one in terms of coercive consent, then this series might just not be for me. 😅

Gah! I'm all over the place with this one, pissed off, emotional, a tad put off and a whole lot turned on. LOL This was definitely a love/hate situation with these characters.

I'm no virgin to Lexi's words but.........holy hell!........I wasn't prepared for the all out hotness level of this book. She definitely let her inner dark and dirty girl out to play. I guess I should have expected no less with Vamps and Lycons ruling the world and humans are used as mere playthings and a source of sustenance.

There is biting, blood and lots of sexy. There is injustice, villains, and champions. There is rage, sorrow and healing. But most of all, there is a story rooted in the dark world and an author who stayed true to that world and gave us a story full of the horrors of injustice but left us with hope for a better future.

Me being me, I had a hard time with the submissive nature of Juliet and the superiority of Darius. While Darius is fighting, in his own way, for humanity, he still believes his race is superior and while Juliet does breakout of her brainwashing some to find courage and a sense of self, it doesn't quite get to a point where I'm comfortable. And maybe, I shouldn't be. Maybe that's the point. Change takes time and every being has flaws. These two are working towards a better future and in a horrific world, maybe that's good enough.

Overall, I'm very intrigued with this world where vamps aren't in hiding and human's aren't in control. It's unique and I can't wait to see where Lexi take us and these characters next.

I tried

I tried to like this I really did. I was intrigued by the world the author created, but it wasn’t enough to keep my interest. The most frustrating part of this story was that the author spent so much time setting up the same situations and the accompanying emotions/fallout from those situations again and again. How many times would there be a dinner? How many times would she be devastated by what was happening even though this allegedly was all she was taught to expect and been prepared for? How many times would she be confused by it all or feel betrayed? How many tantrums could she have because he failed to communicate, they miscommunicated or she jumped to absurd conclusions? How many erotic and blood sharing scenes could we dumped in one book yet not devote much time actually moving the plot along much? Two hundred eighty three pages and we hadn’t even had an appearance from the goddess. Sigh. I’ll concede others may really enjoy this book. I just didn’t and you should really give it a try and see what you think.

Loved this! Lexi C. Foss takes you on a dark adventure through a terrifying and violent vampire world where humans are no more than food and slaves. Following Juliet as she struggles to meet and defeat Darius's challenges that are somehow all mixed in with his aspirations for the future of humans and vampires, and going along for the ride with Darius's own emotional challenges, will keep you glued to the pages and getting sucked into a beautifully layered and complex world! I can't wait for the next book!

This story is the first in a new series for Lexi. This one we have the vampires and lycanthropy ruling the earth and humans are basically slaves to either fraction, bread to be their toys. Juliet is a blood virgin and has been trained since birth not only to be submissive but also to believe all the propaganda that they fed her. When she is introduced to a world much different then she was made to believe she finally gets a choice.
Like all of Lexis stories, she has built such an incredibly sophisticated world with three-dimensional characters and a storyline that balances a thin line of being just enough action to keep you engaged but not overly stimulated to the point of confusion. You can’t help but fall into the work and love with the characters. Another incredible read.

I loved this book!

A very interesting take on the world where humans are not the superpower.

Juliet was created for her master Darius, and I appreciated the way she rose into herself and became a powerful heroine.

Lexi C Foss painted such a vivid picture of this world with her words and I cannot wait to read the next one, and many more!

3 stelle!

OMG! I ADORED THIS BOOK!!
At first, I was like this book may be a bit too ugh for me but OMG I LOVED IT.
The characters in here straight away took to my liking, especially DARIUS!!!!! UGH, I LOVE HIM SOO MUCH!!! He was so seductive hot and harsh but at the same time, he was the most caring and soft guy I've ever read about (in the dark genre)!
I also loved Juliet; her character development throughout the book was beautifully displayed throughout the book.
The bond between Juliet and Darius was just so beautiful to watch and read as it blossomed. Being mates they treasured each other so much. Which I LOVED!!!!
The spice in this book was 💋😘💋 : 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
This book has things which would usually make me unhappy but I loved it and craved more.
I haven't read a book that has intrigued me and made me want to continue reading more without taking a break but THIS BOOK GRIPPED ME SINCE THE BEGINNING. But this world, plots, characters, relationships, and friendships were just phenomenal.
I'm so glad I found this read on my kindle because I LOVED it so much!!!!
Anyways, I can't wait to continue this series, hopefully, it gets better as we move on!!!

3.5 stars, I struggled with how to rate this one and whether to bump up or down. I went with down, obviously, but this is a good read. It’s actually not really what I was expecting. Ultimately the angst filled nature of this story is why I bumped down the rating. I know lots of readers eat that up but I’m not a fan of angst.

This is a post apocalyptic future where vampires and lycan rule the world and humans get very poorly treated slaves with no rights. Nice and depressing.

Juliet has been trained a blood virgin from birth. She’s entirely pure and her sole purpose is to do the bidding of the vampire who purchased her at auction.

Darius is pretty much vampire royalty and he’s working to change the way this crappy world treats humans, starting with his blood virgin, who he’s training to help him change everything.

I liked this book, in some ways, it was more than I expected. It was good to see Juliet’s indoctrination start to crumble but I wanted to throat punch Darius’ a few times. He was mostly likable but there were frustrating parts.

Story 3.5/5, Heat 1/5, Darkness 1/5, Angst 3.5/5

Super slow burn, they don’t bang until 85%. They share sexual activity buts it’s all a tease - in an obnoxious way. Virgin h, no manwhore, no OW drama - though h gets a bit jealous of any female near him - he does too, no condoms, no push away or separation. No cheating, no cliffhanger and HEA.

Safety readers. - I wouldn’t personally class this as a safe read. There is no cheating and no SEX between anyone other than H/h but the entire nature of this society expects complete submission from humans and vampires are expected to share their humans - blood and sex.

He plans on making her his mate so he won’t have to share her sexually but the biting is all kinda sexual. There’s a practice scene where he has two friends come over and they share her. She’s naked, one bites her breasts, the other bites her femoral artery (inner thigh, near her lady bits), H is there and bites her also and manually stimulates her to O.

Then he’s supposed to do something similar the next night with a smarmy jerk but it doesn’t end up happening. Her clothes are see through though and H implies he’ll let him bang her next time. He doesn’t intend for that to happen but h doesn’t know that at the time and she’s devastated.

Then even after they are completely mates it’s strongly implied that while no one will be able to have sex with her that he will have to let others bite her. I found that notion to be really gross because he kept promising no one else would bite her but also implying he’d have to allow it.

It's been a while since I went back to my paranormal roots, so when I saw Chastely Bitten pop up on Kindle Unlimited, I decided to give it a go. And while the book wasn't bad, it wasn't great either. I am left feeling very meh about the whole thing and I don't think I will be picking up book 2.

I liked the whole concept of the book, vampires and lycans rule the world and humans are property. But the problem here seems to be a lack of information. As vampire and lycan lore changes from story to story, you are never really clarified or provided what skills each species has, their strengths, or their weaknesses. You really don't find out any information until the moment it happens. In some cases you don't find out anything at all and are left floundering to make your own conclusions.

Darius and Juliet seem to have a forced relationship, correction their relationship has a hint of Stockholm syndrome. Darius bought Juliet as property and then the 'fell in love'. Okay, its paranormal, I can still support this but what I didn't like is the whole sharing that happened with Juliet. And yes, I am talking about sharing sexually, cue the endless cringing. I was so uncomfortable reading this and I wish there would have been a disclaimer or heads up, but I learned my lesson now. Do not click on Kindle Unlimited without doing thorough background research.

While the plot wasn't bad, it was slow at times. I think the real issue here is the writing style. It doesn't flow smoothly and because of this I was never transported into the story. I never felt like I was in the world they live in, I remained an outsider. I wanted to be teleported to their world and enraptured by the words on the page but the story doesn't suck you in like that. In some cases it does the opposite and that left me disappointed in the end.

Lexi C.Foss has done it again!

I loved this story and world Lexi created. I found it very interesting that vampires and lycans rule this world, and humans are nothing more than food and slaves.

Such an interesting take. With such interesting characters, including our two main ones, Darius and Juliet. With Darius's dark dominance and Juliet's innoncence. As there relationship develops and she experiences things for the first time. Her character development with the changes that happen along the way, as well as his are enthralling.

Keeps you wanting to know more, and anxious to see what's next!! I can't wait to see what is next in the blood alliance series and think this is a must read!! Great job Lexi Foss!

I love the supernatural world, it just offers that splendid spark of power, magic and admirable creatures. This dystopian setting is quite the ruthless one as humans are no longer considered individuals, but are mere possessions that are bred, raised and allocated to certain sections within society with one specific purpose - to serve the vampires and the lycans. The Blood Alliance is not simply a council, it is an authoritarian power that allows both dark creatures to deal with humans as they see fit.

Juliet is a product of that vicious cycle, raised in the hands of matrons and taught harsh lessons from an early age- her only purpose is to obey and yield. When she is purchased by Darius, a rather intriguing vampire, her world starts to change as each of her current views start to shred into pieces as she is introduced to some harsh truths about the world prior to the Blood Alliance. The MMC has an agenda of his own and Juliet might be just the right tool to bring everything crashing to the ground.
Darius is one of those characters that you like, then hate and eventually perhaps grow fond of at some point. Juliet does struggle through this story as she is constantly battling with her inner self, the world as she knew it is simply a propaganda, one that has ultimately altered her life.
The connection between the main characters is evident and it does evolve into something more meaningful. However, there were parts that I found difficult to accept. I can see the reasoning behind Darius' decisions, but some of his rationale and deeds simply did not sit right with me. Juliet was easier in a way to understand. It takes time, effort and dedication to change one's mindset, especially if others have completely kept you up in the dark from the truth. Here, it is not just brainwashing. Juliet faces quite the obstacle as she needs to come to terms with the fact that things have been different for humans. The attempt to accept herself not just a mere property of her master, but a person, who should have her freedom to choose as she sees fit proves to be rather challenging. The psychological aspect here is quite interesting and the author has done a good job at portraying the FMC's journey.

I did like the premise of this book. The author has done wonderfully with the description of this harsh world. The characters are mostly cunning, strategic and consistent in their pursuit of reaching their objective. Of course, among all the plotting, games and politics, there is a love story. Is it a tender, sweet and cosy love story? No. It is the type of emotional connection that comes through struggle, acceptance and putting one's trust and loyalty into the hands of another.
