From USA Today bestselling and popular science fiction and fantasy authors comes Elements of Untethered Realms, a supernatural compilation of the anthologies Twisted Earths, Mayhem in the Air, Ghosts of Fire, and Spirits in the Water. These forty thrilling tales feature authors Angela Brown, Jeff Chapman, Cathrina Constantine, Julie Flanders, River Fairchild, Gwen Gardner, Misha/M. Gerrick, Meradeth Houston, Graeme Ing, Simon Kewin, M. Pax, Christine Rains, Cherie Reich, and Catherine Stine.
Cherie Reich has more books than she can ever read and more ideas than she can ever write, but that doesn't stop this bookworm from trying to complete her goals, even if it means curbing her TV obsession. She is a speculative fiction writer and library assistant living in Virginia.
Twisted Earths: The stories weren’t exactly what I expected.
Patchworker 2.0 Not really drawing me in – quite the opposite. DNF.
The Ole Saint A zombie horror story. A good read, though.
A Grand Purpose A rather dark tale that should have come with a content warning (the pretty girl gets abducted and turned into a sex slave). The worldbuilding is interesting, though.
The Day of the Flying Dogs Grr. DNF.
Ghostly Guardian A surprisingly fun ghost story with some pirates to boot.
Lady Death Her own brother would kill her to prevent war if she refuses to assassinate death? Too messes up for me right now. DNF
The Malachite Mine Why her sister was dating her fiancé’s brother… Never mind. They’re all too screwed up to do what they did in the mine for that to be an issue.
Red Earth and White Light A bittersweet tale, well-written with interesting worldbuilding.
In the Know It starts good and then turns into “then this happened”. Ugh. DNF
I had a problem with the italics in this collection – especially the large blocks – as it messes with my eyes and head, making it difficult to read and enjoy the book. Authors and publishers: please consider the neurodivergent when making decisions about italics so books are accessible to all.
*Due to this, I’m not reading the rest of the stories in the other collections.
