About the author

Steve is a retired business executive and former sports journalist who now writes cozy mysteries with a twist of sass and suspense. His Miss Fortune novels—set in the beloved world created by Jana DeLeon—blend small-town charm with fast-paced adventure, earning him six #1 rankings in Amazon’s action/adventure category.

Steve’s fiction career began in 2008 with Amazon’s Kindle Worlds, where he was invited to craft stories using established characters. His sharp dialogue and tightly woven plots quickly made him a fan favorite in the Miss Fortune universe.

Beyond cozy mysteries, Steve has co-authored two thrill-packed titles—Devil’s Face and Gray Ghost—with bestselling author David Wood in the Dane Maddock Action Adventure Series. He also collaborated with Jesse Jacobson on Rainhorse, a gritty Western tale of justice and redemption. His standalone novel Night Music showcases his range, blending suspense and emotional depth in a story all his own.

Steve’s first book, Deal Me In, is a nonfiction deep dive into the lives of twenty poker legends, commissioned by Phil Hellmuth himself. His time with poker and sports celebrities—including Doyle Brunson, Jennifer Harman, Johnny Chan, and basketball stars like LeBron James and Rajon Rondo—inspired him to keep telling great stories.

When he’s not writing, Steve enjoys life in the Pacific Northwest with his wife, children, and grandchildren. You might also catch him performing in the Seattle music scene with his acoustic duo, Latitude 47—proof that good stories and good tunes never go out of style.

This reads like really bad fan fiction of someone who overheard a single conversation about the characters.

Character assasination!!

I read this book because I finished all the ones in the series so far, and I looove this series and these characters! I live in MS, I know people like this!! but I had to stop reading this several times. He doesn’t get these characters at all. He puts dialog in their thoughts and mouths that they would NEVER think or say! Drove me crazy!!! Jana why would u lend him ur people and let him do this to them! You brought them to life and he put “man” words in their female mouths . Men just don’t think like us!!! They can’t write for women like women can! Plain and simple!! It was awful!!!

So, it's not "bad" but I just don't feel like the author had a good grasp on the characters' personalities. Ida Belle and Gertie seemed almost reversed....not ONE mention of Gertie's purse contents and none of her usual antics or "interesting" clothing choices! And since when would Fortune ever say "I give up. I lost"?!?

Hilarious

Keep giving out the improbable laws. Why anyone would want to whistle underwater beats me but why anyone would make it illegal just takes the biscuit. ( Guess who is from the UK.)
Seriously though it's well written, well thought out and the characters are true to the original. I thoroughly enjoyed it. More please.

The characters aren't their usual selves. Gertie doesn't cause any mischief

The characters weren't what you expect from the original novels. I missed their antics. Fortune didn't appear herself, she was to "soft".

Disappointing

I have read all of the original series, the characters were all wrong! Ida Belle in a paisley dress?? This book may be alright if you had not read the other series first but save your money!

I've read the whole series, but must say that I am disappointed in this authors translation of the main characters of Sinful. I bought 4 of this authors books, but am struggling to read them. WIsh I had only purchased 1. They are not the characters I've come to love.

Fortune and Fame

The writing was fine. Character development was off from the original characters. I had a hard time getting past this.

What a delight to discover these Louisiana books! Short, sweet, and hilarious from cover-to-cover, I cannot recommend the Miss Fortune books enough.
