Born in 1965, I grew up on a working cattle ranch in the desert thirty miles from Wickenburg, Arizona, which at that time was exactly the middle of nowhere. Work, cactus and heat were plentiful, forms of recreation were not. The TV got two channels when it wanted to, and only in the evening after someone hand cranked the balky diesel generator to life. All of which meant that my primary form of escape was reading.

At 18 I fled to Tucson where I attended the University of Arizona. A number of fruitless attempts at productive majors followed, none of which stuck. Discovering I liked writing, I tried journalism two separate times, but had to drop it when I realized that I had no intention of conducting interviews with actual people but preferred simply making them up.

After graduating with a degree in Creative Writing in 1989, I backpacked Europe with a friend and caught the travel bug. With no meaningful job prospects, I hitchhiked around the U.S. for a while then went back to school to learn to be a high school English teacher. I got a teaching job right out of school in the middle of the year. The job lasted exactly one semester, or until I received my summer pay and realized I actually had money to continue backpacking.

The next stop was Australia, where I hoped to spend six months, working wherever I could, then a few months in New Zealand and the South Pacific. However, my plans changed irrevocably when I met a lovely Swiss woman, Claudia, in Alice Springs. Undoubtedly swept away by my lack of a job or real future, she agreed to allow me to follow her back to Switzerland where, a few months later, she gave up her job to continue traveling with me. Over the next couple years we backpacked the U.S., Eastern Europe and Australia/New Zealand, before marrying and settling in the mountains of Colorado, in a small town called Salida.

In Colorado we starved and froze, started our own electronics business, and had a couple of sons, Dylan and Daniel. In 2005 we shut the business down and moved back to Tucson.

I am currently working on finishing The Devastation Wars fantasy series and attending graduate school.

An Unforgettable Fantasy Adventure!

This series of books has the perfect name; Immortality and Chaos. These stories will definitely live forever in the minds and hearts of fantasy fans everywhere and they bring with them a real chaotic flow of emotions (still in shock from it all). I can't tell you how many times during this set of books I found myself holding my breath, quite literally. (May even have turned a nice shade of azure)

This series starts off with a bang as the two friends Wulf Rome and Quyloc are sent by King Rix on a mission destined to fail, to fight a massively overwhelming army and are driven into what is possibly the most dangerous piece of land anywhere… The Gur al Krin desert, where searing sands are the least of their troubles.
The duo find themselves in the middle of the Krin in a deep place they’d rather not be and just being there might lead to the worst decision ever.
Then there is Netra, a young Tender from Rane Haven who is just discovering who she is and how to manage her budding powers. This part of the story has a tidal feel to the emotional tumult throughout, but also has some good action to balance it out.

This pentalogy deserves 5 stars, two thumbs up, a fanatics dance of merriment and all the praise I can muster…and a bag of chips (as the cool kids say) It’s blend of action, mayhem, interpersonal connections and raw emotion (had me crying like a baby in its crib) made for a potent cocktail that still has me reeling from the ‘whoa’ effect.
I absolutely LOVE the imagery in this book, especially with the creatures. It’s as if they were painted directly into my brain! (don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt) So that goes a long way in transporting you right into the story.
Eric T. Knight does something amazing in these books, in that even though you are reading them for the first time it feels like coming back to an old friend you haven’t seen in years and at the same time, packs the wonder and awe of a brand new adventure and all the mystery that entails, making it what I consider to be an instant classic that will endure for generations to come. And that's really just the first book I'm talking about, it gets BETTER!

I need to take a minute to talk about the magic system he uses, because it's freakin' awesome and completely unique! As a fantasy fan I have honestly NEVER seen it’s like. Things like Lifesong, Selfsong, Akirma, Flows and going "beyond" have totally blown me away! The way he has taken fantasy and turned it upside down with his use of the above mentioned things is through originality and an obviously bottomless imagination!
Eric T. Knight is a literary master Chef, knowing exactly the right ingredients to give you a five course gut busting meal that will leave you both extremely satisfied and wanting more.
So between a crazy unique magic system, characters that I feel like I personally know now (don't worry about how many 'real' friends I have) unparalleled action and an amazing sense of humor throughout (seriously I laughed out loud so many times while reading this, I'm pretty sure my family thinks I may be a little psychotic. (my mental health is fine. The voices told me so) you can’t help but love these stories.

Knight ends this EPIC 5 pack with Oblivion's Grasp and it is without a doubt the jewel in the crown of the Immortality and Chaos series and that means quite a bit, since I truly adore every page of every book in this set.
I've honestly never read a series that can bring to life such realistic and wonderful characters as this one does. In it Eric T. Knight has fashioned heroes that are truly afraid of what could happen but they use that fear to push forward and that lends them a realism that most fantasy stories lack.

Grab a copy and I'll see you on the other side of the veil.

A strong 4-4.5 stars for Immortality and Chaos: The Complete Epic Pentalogy by Eric T. Knight. I borrowed (from the Kindle Unlimited library) and read the entire series as basically one book, so this review is for the entire series, not the individual books.

I thought numerous times I had bitten off more than I wanted to eat by dealing with this as one, long book. There were nights when I wanted to put it down, I was tired of it, the weirdness just got too much, my brain was struggling from trying to follow the myriad characters and groups the story constantly switched between. But then I'd pick it up again. Just, you know, to see what happens next. And I'd be swept away once more. I fell in and out of love with this series so many times, you'd think I was 20 again with a crush.

The story mainly involves current times in a world sort of medieval (swords, axes, spears, shields) with magic (the ability to manipulate Song, the essence of all life) granted mostly to "Tenders," an order of women who worship Xochitl, one of numerous Shapers (gods who formed the world and created humans). There's also another people, the Takare, geographically far from others in self-imposed isolation, whose magical roots reach back thousands of years. Their magic users, both male and female, are chosen by their ancestors. And then other mysterious populations of beings, both magical and otherwise, come into play at various points during this epic tale.

The story goes back eons to beings and events that are affecting the world still. There's zombies, ancient spirits, a shadow world, creatures of stone, sea, and sky, and some of the most outlandish magic manifestations I've ever read. Sometimes I loved the creativity, sometimes I was irritated with "this is too out there" feelings, but mostly I tried to relax and go with the flow, because, as bizarre as it got, the people and the story kept me involved and wanting to know what the heck was going to happen next.

I won't go into more description, because this series is huge and defies conventional definition. To sum up, sometimes I loved it, sometimes I was over it, but it kept its tendrils around my head and, eventually, my heart, and I just kept reading. When I finished, I did something I would never have believed maybe halfway through: I grabbed all 4 books of the followup series, Chaos and Retribution, which follows the characters and brings new ones into what happens after all the events of Immortality and Chaos conclude.

Call me crazy.

I read these awhile ago and I really enjoyed the world building and the characters. I came across these in Amazon on a get these free kind of promo. Been hooked. Became a fan and now I'm waiting for more. Mr. Knight has a way of making the world, characters, and Gods' come alive you could swear you have been there.

My reviews of the separate books can be found on their respectful pages; but here is an excerpt from the last one, summarizing what I think of the series as a whole:

"And so comes the end of the saga.. and what an end this is! It takes you through a kaleidoscope of emotions - it's scary, it's touching, it's full of hatred and full of love, and above all, it's full of empathy even for the most villainous of the villains... (...)
It has been a fantastic journey throughout the five books in the series - with strong, complex, true-to-life characters whom you'll miss, a unique system of magic which doesn't feel like magic at all being so much more, and this very seemingly obvious message which appears in the best of literary works and which so many people miss and don't believe in in life: what I do really matters even if I am just one small unimportant person - my actions do have an impact, they do add to the efforts of others and they truly can save the world..."

Epic Series! Excellent story with wonderful characters. I highly recommend it!

Wreckers Gate - Wow! Great characters! I cheered, I cried, and I desperately want them to succeed in whatever it is they are going to have to do to save their world. Loved it!

Landsend Plateau - Great! The epic stories of our favorite characters continue through struggles and horrors as they fight to survive and figure out how to save their world. I’m ready for the next part of their story!

Guardians Watch - Wow! Awesome story! Great characters, lots of action, intriguing world, a little mystery & history, all wrapped up in an epic adventure. Who could ask for more? Loved it!

Hunger’s Reach - Awesome! The saga continues. The same great characters, action & adventure with more questions and a few answers. I’m ready to dive into the next one!

Oblivion’s Grasp - Wow! All the storylines had our beloved characters in hopeless situations facing utter defeat and the destruction of all life on their world. And yet, from the brink of despair with all hope lost against impossible odds, somehow, they triumph. Absolutely fabulous! Loved it!! I have already started the Chaos & Retribution series (probably should have finished this one first!) and it is equally as fabulous. And (now that I know) how things tie back in history to this series is eye opening!

Amazing

I do not usually write reviews for the books that I read. This series was so good that I felt like it needed to be memorized by one. I did read the reviews of people who gave up on it partially of the way through, and I do understand why. These books are not fast paced. You will not gain answers from lingering questions until the very end. Some answers won't be given. I feel like this is the beauty of world building. There definitely are some unknowns that make you question why. Once I finished the series I was able to think back and really piece together all of those things that did not really make sense to the story. I read books all the time and most I just finish and move on to the next. With Immortality and Chaos, I couldn't. I even sat for an hour after I finished telling my fiance a summary of everything I read. I highly recommend this series. Push through the moments that are slow or seem not to be useful. They definitely are and help character growth along the way. Officially now one of my favorite series and will continue to read all of Eric Knights books this year!

I'm pretty sure that anything I say about this series has already been said but that just means that everyone else is like me and that they think this series is freaking awesome ! Eric T. Knight draws you in and literally doesn't let you go until the end and even then this story stays with you . From the action that is crazy good , to the magic system that is completely unique , to the amazing characters that you didn't even realise had become friends or enemies to the Times in this series that you have to make yourself put it down so you can get a couple hrs sleep because you stayed up wayyyy past your bedtime lol. All of this means one thing . This series is awesome from the first page till the last and it covers every emotion so be prepared for one hell of a ride that even when it's over days later you will still be thinking about it . So get this series and buckle up your seatbelt and enjoy this ride because stories this good do not come along every day . I would give 10 stars if I could . Immortality And Chaos go buy it read it love it and spread the word .

It's David Gemmel Reborn!

What I tend to find is that quite often you just get into a book and it's finished then even with fast paced indie authors you have to wait for the next one.
With this Box set a bargain with over 40 plus hours of reading you have a world that rivals the Drenai sagas that David Gemmel made famous and characters you believe that will stand tall for the right reasons. This pentalogy gives such depth , action that you immediatley start the next book straight after you finish the previous. Any book that entices you to keep turning pages and lose yourself in that world is 5 stars, if i could do a deal of the decade then a boxset by such an author would be there. I see that he continues this story albeit from a different viewpoint with some of the same characters in another series off to the next book

Engaging

The opening chapter of book one grabs your attention immediately and promises great things to come, however, the remainder of the first half of this book is a bit disappointing as it seems forced and that the story is being summarised.
Having said that once you get past this point the rest of the story unfolds in a more natural, entertaining and steadily engaging manner.
The characters are introduced and fleshed out in a believable manner, especially Shorn.
There are many sub plots running throughout the story, some of which have very interesting twists and turns in them.
The ending is also very well thought out with most of the various threads tied up, but there are some which could lead to future adventures.
All in all a very entertaining and enjoyable read, and well worth the 99p it cost to buy.

Enthralling

Took forever to read but never felt bored, without spoiling plot there’s a part in books where author goes int great detail about some characters. Then never mentions them there’s two storie here, and where your thinking there gaining to emerge into each other it never happens. This makes the lesser story near pointless to the main, honestly couldn’t have cared less after a certain main battle last 8% of book could have been left out.But that’s just me and as stated before it was a thrilling read that kept me going for about 40hrs reading for £0.99 bargain starting on his sequel now

Epic!

I thought that it started slow & it almost lost me but I decided to keep at it & I'm glad I did! Once it gets going, it takes you on an epic ride! For me, it was on a par with Ben Hur. Heroes? ✔ Heroines? ✔ Acts of self-sacrifice? ✔ Comic relief? ✔ "Bad Guys"? ✔ Adventure, action, battles, alternative realities. If you stay with them long enough, the series has it all! The characters are believable. They act & react like real people given the situations they're put in. Give it a read. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Ah, it was okay. I'm not disappointed I read it but it wasn’t the best series or even close in my opinion. But that’s just me. I love Sword and Sorcery fantasy but I would not consider this that. Sorcery yes but almost no sword. It was kinda bland. I’m more dark fantasy. I didn’t really care for the characters, I mean there was no one that stood out as the hero, as someone I could identify with which is important to me. Don’t get me wrong it was okay just not great. But once again that’s just me.

A reluctant heroine and the fragility of life

A world where Gods used to hold great power. Now most are forgotten and their few followers banished from society. But now the Gods and their old wars amongst themselves threaten to wipe out every living thing. In steps the reluctant heroine, Netra. What horrors she will witness and be a part of. The character Shorn does not quite fit, but not going to give it away.

Excellent. Well written. Well conceived. Highly recommended to one and all

Excellent. Well written. Well conceived. Highly recommended to one and all.
The "magic" system is different to most of what's out there now and the characters are well developed. The story continues to unfold page after page with no dead space anywhere. Every word builds towards an ending but maybe not THE ending.

Tripe

This book completely lost me multiple times. Even worse it covered both people and events that had no real meaning of purpose. I did not even make it through book one before I quit however.

Minor spoiler:
He created skimpy gods then altered them again and again. At the end a person is greater than the human's God herself so ???? As I said it makes no sense. Least it did not to me. Half a book without any real battle is a tad much.

Stunningly good

This was one of those ‘suggestions’ from Kindle Unlimited, it looked OK and I like to read complete book sets in one go so, I gave it a go....... I found myself making up reasons to delay a reading session just so I could keep it going longer! I mean, I absolutely loved this book, so many ideas and story types in one place - Zen humour even, what more could a poor boy want?

I can see a short break followed by Chaos and Retribution in my near future.

One help of a read.

The beginning was everywhere but as I kept reading, it did come together. The ending was solid with most things finalized in a proper way. The book seemed well edited compared to most books I read these days. With so few mistakes to sift through. This is one of only 4 books I've read in 2022 that I would recommend to others. What a great adventure and roller coaster ride. A lot of omg did he just write that moments. Great job.

a marathon not a sprint

This series was terrific. It’s great for those who don’t care for a linear storyline. The author crafted multiple different stories in an intricate connecting web of characters. Superb plot development. My one recommendation is to read the series as if it is one book. Each book transitions into the next so fluidly that you could miss the change if not paying attention.

Good solid read

I found the beginning a little slow and had a hard time with the different story line, to see how they tied together. But once I got through the beginning I couldn’t put the book Down. I f you like epic fantasy you will love these books. I would have preferred a little more romance.

Fine fantasy

A fine, fine, five book fantasy tale from Mr Knight. Magic, mayhem, fantastic creatures, and extremely well developed characters. A story you become invested in. The world building is solid and the plot moves steadily forward, keeping the reader engaged. Simply great storytelling and beyond worth reading.

Kudos to the author and a treat for readers

This is an excellent series and I'd highly recommend it to those who like classic fantasy. It offers a unique and interesting system of "magic" that has limits on the characters but allows for growth throughout the series. I would say more but I really hate reviews that leave a preconceived idea of what you'll discover.

Awesome 5book series

I was amazed to find that I really couldn't stop reading this series. I went from book to book without waiting or starting another series. Eric Knight creates deep interesting characters that are not always traditionally beautiful or likeable. But I just kept following them around their world.

I read this book and while I liked it, I found it hard to relate to the characters and it seemed a little like Medieval Times meets The Walking Dead. I couldn't WAIT until somebody killed The Children! What a bunch of whiners! And Melekath!ARG the worlds biggest enabler!

If you're into zombies, you'll love it and I did enjoy it in places.

Epic !!

Hello!
In all my years and the thousands of books that I had read, very few leave me with a hard time putting them down!
Once you start this series, you lose all track of time. I am so looking forward to starting on a sequel.
To all the Science Fiction and Fantasy readers, I highly recommend these books!!

Wow just wow

This book kept me up late reading several nights. It was a long journey but it was so worth it. The characters were well written the storyline was wonderful. I didn't want to finish it, I didn't want to read that last chapter because I didn't want it to be over. Gripping and engrossing I never got bored or confused on the story line. Major kudos for Eric knight.

I had already read the first two in this series and found them very enjoyable. When I saw the series on special I jumped at the chance to read the rest .
I really like the story line and the characters and will have to try and get the rest of the series later but have to say 1-5 are written such that if you want to stop there its fine which I like.

Strong Mature Writing

Unusual to discover such complex, interesting work from an unfamiliar author. Very original worldbuilding, strongly interwoven plotting, and involving and diverse characterisation. If Eric T Knight can maintain this quality, he'll be winning awards before long.

A Masterpiece of Worlds Created and Populated with Real Characters

Amazing storytelling, Eric Knight goes into just enough detail and dialogue to understand, without letting it get in the way of the action within the plot. Suspenseful and beautifully tied back together in conclusion.
