As women we are caregivers and as caregivers we keep secrets. Now we keep secrets for a variety of reasons, maybe we think if others find out our secret they will think badly of us or maybe to protect others and we think they would feel so sorrowful for us if our secrets are revealed.
God's love encompasses all, there are no secrets from him and none too big for him to forgive. He has already forgiven us.
Talking to your pastor or another person you feel comfortable with can be so freeing for you. "This compelling storyline will encourage emotional healing, forgiveness, and restored faith."
This book is so encouraging, I suggest all women read this. We all need to read this.

What a book, Claypool hit on some tough subjects all in this one book. I could not put it down.
Healing and forgiveness and all with out be preachy and over bearing.
Just my thoughts but this would make a great book for women's small groups to read together or Bible study groups.
Now this is for my blog followers who are going to say you promise to tell us if the book is self published or published by a small publisher. This one is BUT it has been edited very well. I challenge you get a copy of this and see just how good it is and how well it has been edited, and what a touching story this is.
I gave this book 4 stars and I recommend it.

This is a good story about being open and honest with the ones you love the most. It's about how hiding parts of your past can cause you and your relationships heartache. There are some important spiritual truths brought out in this novel. I liked the relationship between Cassie and her husband. The story line jumped around a lot between Cassie and her friend, Katie. It was a little hard to follow but overall I enjoyed it! This is the first I have read by Christina Ryan Claypool.

This Christian novel unexpectedly touched my heart and soul. I found myself really caring about Cassie, the main character. With the many issues that are explored, it would be great for a book discussion. Secrets of the Pastor's Wife was a delightful surprise for me. Full of Biblical truth. An inspiring, touching read!

Secrets Of The Pastor’s Wife by Christina Ryan Claypool is a powerful and thought provoking Christian novel that will aim straight at your heart and emotions.
The novel has the themes of secrets, betrayal and hurts. If we keep secrets eventually they will weigh us down. “Haunted by old secrets.” God does not want us to live under a burden. He will send people across our paths to help us to release our deepest sorrows.
There is also the theme of forgiveness. “The same forgiveness you extend to others, you must extend to yourself.” Often the hardest person to forgive is the face in the mirror.
In our pain we may turn away from God, believing ourselves to be abandoned by Him. “So many times we don’t know why, but that doesn’t mean that God doesn’t care.” If we focus on our pain, we are not looking to God and we cannot see Him through our pain.
We all have a God-shaped hole that nothing else will fill. Nothing else fits. “Endeavouring to fill the empty hole… with some addictive behaviour.” Everything but God is meaningless and we will be on a path to self-destruct.
The wife of a pastor is often invisible. Parishioners look to their own interests and past the pastor’s wife to him. God knows the need for a good friend and will send one across her path.
I found Secrets Of The Pastor’s Wife an incredibly powerful and emotional read. It is heart breaking to witness the isolation, the hurt and the pain but God is the God of restoration and He can and will restore lives.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

I couldn't put this book down until it was finished.
This novel will hold you spellbound and eagerly turning the pages to see where Cassie's story goes next.
Memories makes us who we are today. Some are good and some can be bad. They have a strange way of showing up at the most inopportune moments. Especially when we think we have buried them.
I think that God puts certain people into our lives to do just what Katie did for Cassie.
It's certainly rare to find a friend like that.
I wish that I did but it's hard to find that special friend.
Secrets are hard to keep. Harder than you can imagine. I especially don't like the ones that weigh us down.
I love how Claypool shows us that even though Cassie is a preacher's wife she is also human just like the rest of us and is weighted down by life's events.
She also shows us that even through our life's events there's nothing like God's love and he will forgive us. In fact, He's already forgiven and forgotten. He wants us to lay our burdens at His feet and He will take care of us. We need only to ask.
But, as humans we make it so complicated.
We think that if everyone knew how bad our past has been or is that no one will ever want to be around us but y'all, that's soooooo not true!
I give this book five stars because I love how Claypool doesn't beat around the bush on tough subjects like these.
So this book y'all! It was a blessing to get to read it. I think this author knew exactly what I needed.
My thanks to a complimentary copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

I have always thought that being a pastor’s wife was an unenviable position. I know I wouldn’t want to be one. I think that it would be hard, even maybe impossible for a pastor’s wife to have a good friend in the church. A person she could tell all you. For one thing, pastors rarely stay in one church a very long time. And another thing is that it would be very hard to trust someone not to tell your secrets.

The pastor’s wife in this book has held hurts inside for a very long time but has never told a soul. Not even her husband. And she is in a lot of pain over it. But God placed them in a town and placed an elderly woman in her life that wants to help her. This woman prays hard for the pastor’s wife with a pure heart. And God uses this lady to help the pastor’s wife. Proves that He sees us and cares and brings healing.

I received a complimentary copy from the author. The opinion here is my own.

As a pastor's wife, I appreciate the author's attempt to highlight the struggle many pastoral families go through, but the writing style was not my cup of tea.

Wow, this was an unexpected blessings! Given the message of the book and its timing as I shift in ministry all I can say is He's an on time God. This book just reminds me of the damage of secrets in relationships. If we desire grace, we have to extend grace. I like the way Claypool told the story. Given the culture I'm in, this would be totally realistic. People are more concerned about appearances than being their authentic self. I am glad their relationship with God was intact. Thank you for finding me and sending me this book Christina Ryan Claypool. I wanted to finish it the day I got it but took my time and sat with the story.

In Secrets of the Pastor's Wife by Christina Ryan Claypool, Cassandra Martin has a few secrets she has been hiding for several years. For fifteen years, Cassie has been married to John--the new lead pastor at Maple Avenue Community Church. Throughout that time, her secrets have been getting a little heavier and heavier. It seems they have some communication struggles in spite of their seemingly happy marriage. Cassie wonders if maybe those hidden secrets are contributing to their struggles.

Throughout their married life, John and Cassie have moved frequently. Life became busy. John was busy with church and ministry. Cassie was trying to be a good wife and to help supplement their income. However, when they move to Maple Grove, Cassie meets coffee shop owner, Katherine "Katie" Montague and finds her to be a reliable confidant--and things begin to change in her heart.

I was drawn in to Secrets of the Pastor's Wife from the first page. Tough it is fictional, this book covers a lot of topics that many of us in our modern world deal with on a day to day basis. At first, I thought maybe there were too many issues for one story but I think it is that way in many families today. I found this story to be both compelling and interesting. I liked the characters. I liked that the story encourages good communication and healing in healthy ways. Secrets of the Pastor's Wife would be a good book for a church book club or women's group to discuss. There are a lot of good questions in the discussion guide at the end of the book to use for meetings. Also, at the end of the book there is another bonus short story with another discussion guide with an emphasis on friendships. As a side note, I also like the beautiful cover that was drawn by a friend of the author.

Secrets of the Pastor’s Wife by Christina Ryan Claypool offers readers a tale of tragic mistakes, long-held secrets, and the need for spoken truth. Although I’d consider this book a “heavy” read due to the issues it deals with, I enjoyed the gradual unveiling of Cassie’s story. It was easy to relate to Cassie. She loves her husband, supports him as best she can, and strives to follow Christ. Yet, she struggles with unaddressed issues from her past. I have a friend who is a pastor’s wife and based on what she has told me, I think the author offers an honest insider view into the realities of a pastor’s wife’s life.

I sometimes shy away from novellas as I feel they often lack character development due to the shortened form. However, the pages of Secrets of the Pastor’s Wife are packed with a character-driven plot. Although there is some action, Katie’s observations and lots of dialogue serve to put the focus on Cassie’s character growth. Several themes weave into the storyline and I appreciated the emphasis on mentoring/friendship that is shown between Katie and Cassie.

Secrets of the Pastor’s Wife by Christina Ryan Claypool is an inspirational novella that will appeal to readers (and book clubs) who enjoy character development mixed with spiritual truths.

A touching story

My rating is 3.5 stars

Cassie felt isolated from pretty much everyone. The women in her church and even her husband. She felt that if she showed even the slightest sign of cracking, she would be judged and found wanting. So when she was befriended by Katie, an older woman with a heart of gold, she finally felt safe enough to share the burdens of her heart.

Katie's history is a beautiful one of deep love and loss. Learning about it explains how she can be the one Cassie opens up to with her own story of heartbreak.

This touching account is given from Katie's perspective, through conversations and short stories Cassie has written. It deals with difficult issues such as shame, guilt, and suicide. It felt a little as though it was told simply to illustrate a point, which is actually what Jesus did in His parables. This one seemed a little forced though; yet not to the point of making me want to put it down and stop reading.

Author Christina Ryan Claypoole has written a sweet, heartwarming story that centers around Cassandra "Cassie" Martin and her new best friend Katherine 'Katie' Montague. Cassie moves with her minister husband to Maple Grove and finds herself trying to portray the perfect pastor's wife but feeling very unworthy and sometimes unsuccessful.

I truly enjoyed learning about Maple Grove and its inhabitants. I felt like I was seeing the various places mentioned in the story and I could even relate some of them with places in my hometown. Secrets of a Pastor's Wife will send some readers down memory lane while introducing other readers to the joys and the trials of small town living but every reader will be glad that they were there!

Christina Ryan Clqypool has shown that all of us have memories that aren't pleasant and experiences that are painful to share. She assures us that our Heavenly Father isn't surprised by anything; nothing is too big for Him to forgive; and self-forgiveness is a key to emotional and spiritual healing. Secrets of a Pastor's Wife is wonderful Christian fiction and I am hoping that there will be another chance to visit Maple Grove.

Christina Ryan Claypool has given us a compelling story about a pastor’s wife, Cassie, who suffered tragedy in her younger years. She truly loves her husband and her life as a pastor’s wife. However, Cassie has kept the tragedy in her past hidden, even from her husband. Katie realizes that Cassie needs a friend she can safely confide in, and the story becomes one of Cassie’s journey to peace and forgiveness.

The author did a great job of drawing me into the story and almost immediately finding sympathy for Cassie. This book has themes of forgiveness, love, and God’s grace in our lives. It’s a reminder to us as women to be a true friend to those who are hurting and have a listening ear and a caring heart as they share their burdens with us.

Just a note: This book has some adult themes that are handled appropriately, but would not be appropriate for a younger teen girl.

Although the story felt complete and not rushed, this book is a little bit shorter than some. (155 pages) I am hoping the author returns to Maple Grove and we learn more about some of the residents there.

As I began reading this book, I was immediately drawn into this beautiful story about meaningful relationships and the power of sharing each other’s burdens and forgiveness. As I spent time in Maple Grove, I grew to care for Pastor John, Cassie and Katie.

I loved and most related to the relationship between Cassie and Katie. Katie was wise, intuitive, compassionate and kind. She sensed that Cassie needed a trustworthy friend to confide in. She became that and more, much like a mom to Cassie.

Cassie had been carrying the heavy burden of carefully guarded secrets which had caused shame and brokenness in her life. Once she was able to share her burdens, she was able to receive forgiveness and begin healing.

This book reminded me of some special friendships that I have with precious, young women in my life. It challenged me to nurture those relationships.

I received a complimentary copy of this well written book through a giveaway on Instagram. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Forgiveness, love, true friendship, secrets, and a glimpse of small town living, were all within the pages of Secrets of the Pastor's Wife.
Katie is such an outstanding character to me. A true friend and confidant to Cassie. She knows when something is bothering her friend and she listens. In her own life I love that she owns her dream, Maple Grove coffee shop.
This is a different book for me. A little slower reading than I was used to but yet it was very interesting. It reminds me that we all are just human, even the pastor's wife can have secrets.
Just to let you know, I so wanted to know what the neighbor just had to tell the pastor and his wife. I guess I'm as bad as the neighbor and always wanting to know everything!

We all have hurts and disappointments. Even a pastor's wife.

Author Christina Ryan Claypool examines in her new novel how the shame of one woman's past continues to hang over her present. Can an unexpected friendship help her understand that past better and in the process, help her to move forward with her life in peace?

The author looks at shame, hurts and the power that friendship can have. It's an enjoyable read by a talented novelist and journalist.

Nice Story

I decided to read this because as a Pastor's wife I am always on the lookout for kinship of some sort, be it a relevant devotional, self help book or in this case a work of fiction. It was a nice story. Actually left me feeling like I wanted an epilogue of some sort to tie up lose ends. I felt main characters could have been developed a bit more or given more depth and I love the discussions at the end. All and all it was a nice story

Note: I won this book from goodreads.com.
This was a very fast read. It did a good job of illustrating how keeping secrets can cause relationship disfunction. It also exemplified how important it is to have someone to talk to. Warming cold-day read.
