The Larson Family Saga #2

Forbidden: Our Secret Love

Rate this book
I committed a crime when I was twenty-one. I fell in love.

After I was raped, Trey healed me. He protected and cherished me. We were cousins and best friends, until we crossed a forbidden line.

Now we're in love. Trey says we'll be safe. He says only love matters--nothing more. But we're breaking the law, and I'm scared.

Our love is forbidden in most states. The last sexual taboo is a criminal offense in Idaho, punishable by life in prison. We're keeping our dangerous love a secret--or so we think.

But secrets don't stay hidden. Not for long. The truth of our scandalous love threatens to destroy us and our family.

Because Trey isn't really my cousin after all. He is something more.

Will we stay together and break the law, or separate and break our hearts?

About the author

Elise Quinn Larson and Quinn Larson are pen names for the author, whose degrees in history and criminology provide a background for her stories. But background is dull without passion, conflict and love, and the author delivers plenty of each in her novels!

Destiny: Our Forever Love is a sweeping saga of sexual passion and desire, criminal conspiracy and legal injustice, capital murder and death row, terminal illness and assisted suicide. Above all, Destiny is an emotional experience that will confirm your belief in the power of undying love.

The Larson Family Saga continues in Forbidden: Our Secret Love, when Trey--Johnny and Elise's youngest son--risks everything by falling in love with the one woman he is forbidden to possess.

In Unexpected Love: Redeeming a Football Star (The Larson Family Saga, Book 3), Quinn Larson--the NFL's troublesome star quarterback--must choose between salvaging his career and saving the life of the woman he loves.

In Perilous Love: Falling for a Football Star (The Larson Family Saga, Book 4), Mack Grenke--Quinn Larson's best friend--gets involved with a poor Chinese cleaning woman, an Asian street gang, a drug trafficking ring, and a billionaire politician. Don't miss this slow burn, protective hero romance!

Travess Blood tells the story of a lawman tormented by desire, an ex-convict possessed by hate, a woman fighting to save herself and the man she loves, and a small boy caught in the middle of a deadly war between the two men who share his Travess Blood.

The Travess Blood series continues in Travess Land, when Clint Travess must pin on his sheriff's badge again to protect his town, his family and their land from a nefarious rancher who's determined to grab whatever he wants--by any means necessary.

When Clint Travess discovers a mother lode on his Montana homestead, the news draws gold-hungry men who'll do almost anything--legal or not--for the precious treasure in Double Heart Mine. Travess Gold is the third book in the Travess Blood series.

The author's books are recommended for ages 18+ due to adult content, language, and sensitive issues.

This writer managed to take the most taboo subject manner and made it wholesome. There was little to no cuss words which is totally foreign to me because I have the mouth of a sailor. This isn’t a problem until you get to the sex and the words used sound clinical and adolescent.

As a whole this story felt a little on the childish side because the writing was simplistic. That doesn’t mean it was a bad book, it wasn’t. It was a little dull at times but for the most part it was intriguing.

I enjoyed the interactions with the whole family and each member’s reaction to the fact that they not only wanted to be together, they wanted to get married. Well, until they found out something else.

Obviously this is forbidden territory but this girl is extremely wishy washy. To the point where she lacks any loyalty whatsoever. Pretty much everyone and their brother can talk her out of this relationship at the drop of the hat. Whether they’ve been together two minutes, two months or two years.

At the same time all the male characters except CJ were terribly pushy, at times overly aggressive. There was a lot of commands and ultimatums. I love my strong women so maybe that was Elise’s way of dealing with all that toxic testosterone.

Overall this book had its moments, I would compare it to a Christian hallmark movie. Which obviously isn’t my cup of tea but I enjoyed it for what it is.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book as well as the one before it. They both kept me up reading most of the night! The subject matter in Forbidden was difficult to relate to; however, it didn't take me long to get involved in the story. I thought it was very well written and the author has the knack of drawing you into the life and problems of this very complex family. I hope there is another book coming very soon. I'm sure there is a good story to be told about Quinn!

I love to read anything taboo so I was excited to find this on Kindle Unlimited. The description mentions that Trey and Elise are cousins and have been super close since they were kids. They were best friends.. then started feeling something more.

Elise’s boyfriend, Ben, was a huge jackass and decided since they were dating that the word “no” didn’t apply to him. Trey was there for her and comforted her after all of that happened. She ended up moving in with Trey because Ben was a crazy mofo and she was scared of him. Things ended up moving past a family relationship into something steamier after about 6 months? But the feelings had been there for awhile.

Trey wanted to get married and Elise had reservations. She wanted them to do genetic testing first since she wanted kids. And then things got even more complicated... the test reveal that they are actually half-siblings. Apparently Elise’s mom used artificial insemination with Trey’s dad’s sperm because of a genetic marker that her “dad” had, so her parents didn’t want to chance it. They kept it a secret all that time. Soooo... things got more complicated.

And here’s the part where my taboo-loving mind gets excited because brother-sister is so much more taboo than cousins. Ha.

Anyway, Elise starts annoying me because she keeps going back and forth while Trey is all in. He wants to move to Rhode Island because incest between siblings isn’t against the law there, but she doesn’t want to leave their family. She also says she wants kids... well, can’t they adopt? Shit. I started really feeling sad for Trey.

Then she accidentally gets pregnant with his kid and ends up moving to Rhode Island anyway because she doesn’t want to have an abortion. They make up and he moves with her. Happily ever after.

3.5⭐️ and worth the taboo read.

It certainly wasn't Destiny...

However, with a slow start and a subject even I cringe personally at, the story moved proving family love is amazing.

I had a difficult time with this book after reading Destiny, however I didn't want my views personally to affect my review! Especially since, I abhore readers who review without finishing a novel.

Without giving much of the story away, I hope what happened is where the hero and heroine stop, one because of laws, two because of repercussions many are unable to deal with in life. Yet through it all, I can see this through history and successes do occur.

But once again, it certainly wasn't the intenseness of Destiny, or the quality of writing. I felt the author was pushing to turn another book out,and whom knows where that pressure resulted from, and simply was spent.

I do not regret reading, but I will not recommend or not recommend, I believe every reader must make their own choice.

Reads like a confessional

I find myself— having stuck it out (literally thought I’d throw it across the room a few times) that the story and its characters did intrigue me. Dealing with the taboo is gutsy. Too gutsy for me. I find after reading it I still have my taboo firmly in place. Heartbreaking choices.

Creepy.....

Took a long time to read this . Creepy subject to begin with, almost as if written from experience (gulp) . Not every day you have an incestuous relationship with your brother and think it's ok. Unless you're a little off.

I won this book from Goodreads. I did not like the book subject. I am not sure why the author would choose to write about first cousins/halfsiblings marrying and having a child. Not a book I would recommend.

A taboo story with heart! Love may not be easy but, it is what holds everything together. A great read that has you turning pages!

Definitely taboo!!
I just wished we got a few more scenes between Elise and Trey towards the end. Or at least more of their life together in the epilogue. Other than that it was a great taboo/forbidden love story!
