"You think I’m a hooker?" The fiercely brooding guy I met at the bar needed to check his asshole behaviour. Still, he fast turned into the distraction I needed from my life. But it wasn’t romance. Couldn’t be. Running was my MO. This time I'm hiding in paradise, hoping I can stay alive, and trying to ignore the one person I’ve never been able to — my brother. The problem is, I didn't know who Nate Cane really was, and I didn’t know what was coming for me either.
“You try it again, and I’m done.” That's what I said to my brother when he challenged me. I meant every damn word. This time it’s my rules. My life. My game. Screw loyalty. But the woman I met at that bar hid her devious eyes from me. She wasn’t who I thought, and life has a way of determining your future, no matter the odds. Gabriella Alves might have started as a calculated fling — dirty, far from innocent, and mine — but then hell came after her and invaded my world. And a Cane always protects what’s his. Odds be damned.
Loyalty. Family. Dark. Erotic. Romance.
This book is intended for mature audiences. 18+ only.
Hailing from the depths of the quiet British countryside, Charlotte likes nothing better than sinking into her characters dark and devious world's. Sometimes they're kinky, sometimes they're twisted, and sometimes they're a serious hold on tight situation, but her stories are always filled with romance and love in some form.
I really didn't think anything for me could top the first in this series "Innocent Eyes" but "Devious Eyes" actually went above and beyond: words fail me this was in a nutshell: totally epic and I devoured every decadent morsel reading this in practically one sitting which in my opinion is always the sign of some superior fiction. "Devious Eyes" is the second collaboration in the Cane series written by the talented duo of Hart and De Lune and once again they have smashed it: totally hitting the ball right outside the park. My expectations obliterated in one fell swoop: I am suitably impressed here folks. So back with the Canes and this time we get to experience Nates story in all its unapologetic glory as he finds and traverses the battleground of his love life after taking an unexpected sabbatical to his own island paradise. So after some brotherly inter-fighting sends Nates running for the hills he unexpectedly finds himself falling for Jewel thief Gabby who herself is in hiding after a deal back home goes south. Both determined to indulge in just a holiday fling it isn't very surprising when our lover's emotions start to make an appearance. But with such an ocean of lies to overcome this was most certainly not going to be easy sailing and when the crap hits the fan lets just say this pairs lives are more closely connected than even they could have imagined. The romance itself here seemed to have a much more romantic flavour than its predecessor with Nate much more willing to open himself up to his lighter side almost accessible to the concept of a much deeper connection than his brother ever was. That's not to say Nate doesn't act like a complete tool he is a Cane after all and the apple doesn't really fall far from the tree but compared to his brother he was practically a breath of fresh air. And Gabby herself is such a resilient girl: because of her beginnings and family she has had to adapt like a chameleon and as a consequence has forged her own path in life separate to that of her brother. These two individuals: both used to standing in the shadow of there sibling are more than a match for each other: complementing and reflecting each other strengths and weaknesses. So you cant have shades of light without its counter opposite and the dark here when it comes is pitch: there are deep triggers here that don't make for easy reading. But it's only with these portrayals of depravity that we eventually get to witness and realise the true depth of Gabby's inner reserves: she really does manage to come into her own with this stark portrait and her ability to overcome the brutal situation she had endured so bravely. We also get to catch up with Quinn and Emily (more Quinn) which was certainly an added bonus and Quinn was in usual good form here it seems only Em gets to experience this tossers sweeter side. He frankly behaves like a bit of an ass here: reverting to type. Also if you want my take on things you would be better off reading these in order to get the most out of things here. So that's about it: I have no issue whatsoever recommending "Devious Eyes" to you it was a fantastic experience that gets a massive thumbs up from moi.
I voluntary reviewed an Arc of Devious Eyes (A Cane Novel 2) All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
Yes yes yes. I totally loved this story. After reading Innocent Eyes which is book one in the A Cane Novel series I was really looking forward to reading more from these two awesome authors. With Devious Eyes I wasn’t disappointed as I devoured this story.
I’m totally speechless with this story so I’m not gonna tell you anything about the storyline. This is one of those books you just gotta read for yourselves. Let me just say I loved Nate and Gabby. An insight into each of their families adds so much to the story. Oh Quinn. Any glimpse of him and I was a very happy reader.
I’ve got to say this will certainly be one of my favourite reads of this year. I highly recommend you read book one and then read this. These two books are oh so good. Can’t wait to read more from these two gems.
I really struggled with getting into book 1, however this one felt much easier to read. It does contain spoilers for book 1, so read that first if it will be a problem.
We drop into the books with both Gabby and Nate escaping tough situations. They meet up on a remote resort in Bora Bora and sparks soon fly. Gabby and Nate are both strong characters but their secrets come between them and are enough to put them in danger.
I really liked both main characters, they weren't necessarily the best of people but they were honest and with their own brand of integrity. The chemistry between Nate and Gabby was incredibly hot, this pair really worked together, though their messy backgrounds and family threw lots of obstacles in their way.
This is a decently written gritty romantic suspense. The pace was good and the plot has some interesting twists and turns. A good solid read.
WOW! What a book,if i though book one Innocent Eyes was good, this book blew the first book out the water,i am just speechless with how good this story was.
This book is about the second Cane brother Nate who you think is the quiet one, well you know what they say about the quiet ones, and boy was he just as Hot as Quinn, in fact no scrub that he was more everything. This story had everything from Mystery, suspense, violence, death,a dominant sexy male, to a plot that keeps you on your toes through out,it was a rollocoaster of a ride along with Gabby and Nate that never lets you go,and boy are you in for a ride along with these two characters.
This gripping tale starts after a fall out between the brothers Quinn and Nate,so Nate takes off to get some downtime away from his brooding brother and ends up in a holiday resort of Boro Boro to chill out for a few weeks.Gabby is in hiding with stolen diamonds from her brother and the people that are after them when she meets Nate in the holiday resort. This starts as a holiday romance but ends up so much more. They are a match made in heaven but like all good things, they have to come to a end.
This story is a dark and dangerous romance which was captivating and additive,it was fast paced with plenty of hot and steamy moments along the way.Nate Cane loves fiercely,he's protective and possessive, but will not let anything stand in his way to protect Gabby. This is definitely a Five star read for all you dark readers out there, you certainly will not be disappointed in this at all.
This is a must read! Add it to your TBR shelf right now, but read Innocent Eyes (A Cane Novel 1) first. This second Cane Novel has absolutely EVERYTHING; mystery, suspense,a sexy brooding hero, sassy brilliant heroine, and a fast paced plot that will twist you up in knots. After reading the first Cane Novel I was dying to read more from this dynamic writing team, Charlotte Hart and Rachel DeLune, and I was not disappointed. In Devious Eyes, Gabby only knows one way to exist. She is always on guard, ready to run in a moments notice. When she finds solace on a peaceful island she knows the reprieve is temporary, but figures why not enjoy the view, water, sun, and the handsome vacationer who smells of raw sexiness. Nate has had enough of the Cane world and needs to get away to clear his head. He finds himself surrounded by beaches, sun, tropical drinks, and in the company of a curvy, Latin beauty with a sharp wit. What harm is a little vacation fling? After nearly two weeks together, Gabby and Nate must face a new reality as their holiday ends and they attempt to go their separate ways.
5 Stars Review by Elizabeth Late Night Reviewer Up All Night w/ Books
I had the pleasure of reviewing the first Cane Novel, Innocent Eyes, and it introduced me to Charlotte E. Hart and Rachel De Lune. Devious Eyes was another great read by this duo and it held me captive.
Nate travels to multiple places to put distance between himself and his brother, Quinn. While in Bora Bora he meets Gabby who makes him feel things he has never felt before. Gabby is hiding out in Bora Bora after a deal goes south and she flees with millions of dollars worth of diamonds.
With every turn of the page, I wondered when Gabby would be caught and by who. Needless to say, I was on the edge of my seat. There is no doubt that Nate has very strong feelings for Gabby as the story progresses. Nate is just like Quinn in a lot of ways. Ruthless being one of them. There is so much more to Devious Eyes though, so just read it!
Beware, there are triggers. So if you cannot handle it, do not read this book. You have been warned.
Oooh, it's always the quiet ones isnt it!? Nate Cane, financial brain behind the outfit, younger brother and second in command to the all powerful, dominant, slightly crazy Quinn...who'd have thought his story could be so alluring?!
I was really excited for this second book by Charlotte E Hart and Rachel De Lune. Innocent Eyes swept me away and left me wanting so much more from the Cane brothers. I can definitely say that i was not disappointed.
Once again, this duo have used their individual writing styles to take the reader on an emotional ride. There are high points, containing the fast paced, angry, dark writing styles of Hart which are quickly followed by the softer, more steady and romantic style of De Lune. But having said that, this time around there is also a noticeable shift in styles, they have most obviously learnt a think or two from each other over the course of their partnership. The pair have successfully portrayed the pace of the characters lives within their words. The dangerous world of the Cane's feel angry, angsty and rampant while the island Bora Bora is relaxed, easy going and fun.
This story has got a brilliant flow to it, the ups and downs, the heartache, heartbreak and lighthearted moments come at you in swarms. It starts with a bang but most certainly does not end in a whimper. These two authors are pulling all the stops with this series and book 3 is going to be one hell of a belter!
The Cane brother’s story continues with Devious Eyes by Charlotte E. Hart. This is a 5-star read and draws you in immediately on the first page. In this gripping tale we learn more about the stoic unemotional brother Nate Cane the family accountant that seems to only know numbers. The tension and boredom finally come to blows between the brothers and Nate leaves to let Quinn figure things out on his own. While away Nate meets a beautiful woman and begins a holiday fling. As the days pass Nate realizes that he does have emotions, especially when Gabby sneaks away in the middle of the night. Nate has nothing but her first name and no way to track her and this sends him into a tail spin. Why did the mysterious Gabby never give up any personal information and what was up with the secret phone calls? Nate knows that if anyone can find her it’s his brother Quinn, if only he had been able to read past her beauty and see what was really behind her devious eyes.
Devious Eyes is such a delicious addition to the Cane Brothers Series. Nate is the perfect complement to his brother Quinn. Where Quinn is all dark and broody, yet still loves fiercely, Nate also has two sides to him. Soft and romantic but protective and possessive of his woman when it counts. Nate may hate the darkness that swirls in his life, but he is every bit the man who can do the job when it needs doing.
Nate and Gabby are really a match made in heaven, although, they don't know it. Both think their world is just too dark and dangerous to involve the other. No matter how hard they try to keep their real world a secret from the other and keep their relationship in the “Holiday Fling” zone, true feelings cannot be denied. The thoroughly enjoyed the initial setting of Bora Bora which allowed our couple to connect and brought steam to the pages as well as beautiful images to my mind while the couple enjoy each other’s company intimately in paradise.
But dark romance lovers, don’t fear. Charlotte and Rachel serve up a hefty dose of darkness and suspense as the story unfolds. They even bring in some mystery to have us exercising our minds and leave us craving book number 3.
In true Hart De Lune fashion, they have not forgotten to add in some very tantalizing sexual escapades that are sure to leave you fanning and swooning. Everything about Devious Eyes is absolutely captivating and addictive. I totally recommend this read to all the dark romance lovers.
This book has taken me forever to read but not because it was a struggle. It was mindblowingly brilliant that I didn’t want to finish it. A tale Of two thieves that meet in the idealic Bora and fall in love. Deception, violence, smuggling and love all rolled into one in the story of Nate and Gabbie. This book ends as a beginning and leaves the reader hungry for more
this story. i ve got no words on how to explain this story other then OMG must read this amaizig story as it will take you up and down and twist you all up. this is a dark read that will have you on the edge of your set and will need more of this dark read that will draw you in from the very first wordstell the very ending.
This book was SO good, I did not want to put it down! There was a real conflict between this book and my job...I didn't want to stop reading to go to work! It was really fun in parts, with a feel almost of a cat burglar or high stakes heist movie. But it also had some pretty dark sections too, with one or two scenes that some might find triggering. It was dark, fast paced, fun and sexy, at varying points in time. I can't wait to read what's coming next!
As I've come to expect from these two authors, this was yet another brilliant five star read. The characters these women create have a depth seldom seen anywhere else. You can't help but put yourself in the story, and hence you almost instantly get lost in it. I cant wait to see what they come up with next for us to read about involving these wicked beautiful men!!
Didn’t think this book could even compare to that first book in this series but.. WOW. I was most definitely proved wrong and I’m so glad to say so. This author definitely knows what she’s doing when it comes to writing characters that are able to captivate you from that first page down to the very last.
Devious Eyes (A Cane Novel 2) By Charlotte E. Hart and Rachel De Lune 5 stars
Another amazing read from this fantastic, talented writing duo! I wasn’t sure they could top Innocent Eyes, I mean come on Quinn was just amazing to read about and Nate I’ll be honest I wasn’t so sure about. I was worried I would get that raw, dark, grittiness that I got from Quinn’s story but I was so, so wrong! Whilst he isn’t as ‘dark’ as Quinn he does have a different but equally as appealing quality about him that makes you think there is so much more to him than you originally thought. I’m going to go even as far as to say that Nate may have just pushed Quinn off the top spot in the Cane Brothers competition! He was kind, caring, and level headed but he had that fierce protectiveness that clearly runs in the Cane family. With every great male main character there has to be an equally as good female, Quinn had Emily; Nate has Gabby and what a female lead she was! She was strong in her own right, she had her own secrets, she had her own family issues to deal with but when she and Nate were together they just lit the story on fire! I loved every second of their story, from their very first meeting until the end of the story I was captivated by the two of them. Alongside the amazing characters we have the beautiful setting that some of the story takes place in, the authors really brought this story to life with their beautiful descriptions of Bora Bora, and I almost felt like I was right there relaxing with these characters! The differing writing styles that these two authors have really do complement each other well, so much so that unless you have read their separate work it’s hard to tell who has written which chapter. Oh and there’s book 3 to look forward too! Bring it on!!! #CaneBrothersForever
These two authors definitely know how to write perfectly together, as they give a heart racing experience starring the Canes! Devious Eyes is the story of Nate Cane, a man who tries to stay on the somewhat good side of the law despite his family dealings, and the woman that he never planned for, Gabriella Alves, who flirts with breaking it constantly. They meet when both are trying to stay on the down low, in a paradise setting to relax. Their chemistry is off the charts as they hook up, giving some serious sexy times that light the sky up. But unfortunately, the world came knocking, and Gabby leaves him in the middle of the night after they caught feelings. He's pissed, while she can't get him out of her head, so fate steps in, and they come face to face in Chicago, as she's trying to do business for her brother. After that, he's not letting her go, while he tries to protect her, but danger finds them, and Gabby is taken. And that folks is where so many twists came out that I yelled my throat raw with f-bomb dropping. There's a cast of secondaries who fall into 3 categories, the good, the bad, and the oh so ugly, and it's those ugly people who turn the story dark. I'm completely addicted to this series, and I'm praying that there are more books in the works, because there's still an ominous cloud overhead that I need to know how it will all pans out. In the meantime, I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
Devious Eyes is such an amazing addition to the Cane Brothers Series. While this one is more of a slow burn it did not lack the depth that I was expecting with this book. These two authors have come up with quite the pair of brothers and I have loved every second of it!
Nate is the "numbers guy" of the two brothers. He is definitely double sided in the way of being able to be a complete badass, but being able to be so romantic when he wants to be. He's protective, he's possessive, and he loves deeply.
I really adored Gabby too and these two were such the perfect pair. They each think during their vacation to Bora Bora that vacation is as far as they can go. Each of their worlds are too dangerous to incorporate the other, but little do they know they will be thrown back together in ways they do not expect.
There are many dark aspects to this book and I enjoyed the entire ride with this book! It's definitely a book to add onto your To Be Read list and if you have the funds then definitely one click this gem!
This is just a fantastic series, getting better and better! Devious Eyes starts at a slightly slower, less dark pace than the first, but this is not a bad thing. Nate and Gabby are very different people to Quinn and Emily and this story builds to a beautifully dark crescendo.
Oh Nate, he may be the cool calculating "accountant", seemingly with a softer heart than his brother Quinn, but mess with what's his and you'll find out just how Cane he is.....ruthless, clever, unrelenting, hard, loyal and will do whatever is needed. He's not grown into the cold killer Quinn has, but he has a very useful hidden skillset and when they work together they seem unbeatable. These are two brothers I'd always want on my side! I loved Gabby, the fesity thief is a perfect match for Nate, refusing to bow to his will (mostly 😉) Their chemistry is hot, but when she gets pulled into her brothers dark dealings, Nate has to challenge Cane to save her. I love these two authors separately, together this series is absolutely gripping. Can't wait for the next instalment. Loved it, 5 stars all the way.
Devious Eye by Charlotte E Hart and Rachel De Lune is book Two in A Cane Series. This is the story of Nate and Gabby. You can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. Nate is taking a break from the family business where he is the second in command and the financial brains of the business. While away he happens to meet Gabby and they set out of a short vacation type affair. But then she sneaks out during one of their nights which left Nate wanting her back. Where Nate thought his heart was harden Gabby has somehow made some cracks in it. But he only has her first name can he or his family find her? Gabby is on the run and she knows you can't put down roots for long...not even when your feelings might not want you to run. I enjoyed this first book a lot but think this might be my favorite of the two....for sure it has made me want to find books by the authors.
I was told this book could be read as a stand alone. After reading this book, I don’t agree. I feel too much background information is missing.I have a rule to give every book until chapter 10 before giving up on the book. This book tested my limits, thankfully picking up speed after chapter seven. Nate and Gabby are both on much needed Holiday in Bora Bora each for their own reasons although both reasons include each of their brothers. While on this Holiday they run into each other in the hotel bar and things heat up. It is at this point that this book picks up some speed and this is where I was drawn into the story. Gabby is a diamond thief kind of on the run from a drop gone bad. Nate is estranged from his brother. Gabby and Nate agree to first names and no personal information. A sex only fling but as things heat up feelings come out. Gabby is pressured into returning home by her brother and she leaves in the middle of the night. This confuses and pisses off Nate. He leaves the following day to return to his home but Gabby never leaves his thoughts or his heart. As I said this book took a while to bring me in but I feel if I read the first book this would not have happened. Please read book one before this second book.
What a book! The second in The Cane novels by this talented duo, is a little more of a slow burner. But do not believe for a second that this makes it any less of a thrilling read than Innocent Eyes! This time Nate in at the heart of the novel, together with the fascinating, tough, sweetheart, Gabby. A packed plot, dense in detail, persuasive and, at times as unapologetically brutal as Innocent Eyes, Devious Eyes has a different rhythm, befitting the nature of the lead characters. The sense of impending violence and ruthless confrontation builds throughout the book and does not slacken in its grip on the reader, right the way to the end. I cannot wait for more!
Another amazing collaboration by these two authors. These characters came to life for me and their chemistry with each other was fantastic. With Gabby running after getting involved in one of her brothers operations, Nate walking away after his brother Quinn getting on his last nerve. These two meet in Bora Bora, and what seems like a fascinating holiday fling quickly turns into e, especially when once they get back to their real life, it seems that Gabby brother may have made some serious enemies.
As always these writers have you on the edge of your seat and this was a brilliant addition to the Cane family book. A must read.
This is the second Cane brother's book & it certainly does not disappoint. This is Nate's story, Nate is the younger & quieter brother. He meets Gabby in Bora Bora where he has gone o get way from it all. This book was not as dark as the first, though that is due to the differences between the brothers. The is plenty of steamy scenes with the book and a fantastic story also, I don't like to give much away in reviews as I feel I may spoil it for some people. These two author's really work well together and it shows the story just flows effortlessly. I can't wait for what comes next well deserved 5 stars
I gave this Book a rating of 5 ✩’s Title: Devious Eyes Series: A Cane Novel Book 2 Genre: Contemporary Romance, Romantic Suspense Author: Charlotte E Hart and Rachel De Lune Format: Kindle Edition Published on: Oct 15, 2018
I voluntarily received a Courtesy Copy of this book from Bare Naked Words and am choosing to leave a review. >-< >-< >-< >-< >-<>-< >-< >-< >-< >-< >-< >-< >-< What I liked/Didn’t Like: Even though this can be read as a stand alone I highly suggest reading book one first or you may have some unanswered questions.
Nate was an excellent addition to the series and was a fast-paced twisty novel that was very fun to read. Nate is funny, Charming and charismatic. His female lead Gabby was his perfect counterpoint in this one.
Nate Cane. I no idea where to go with this review. So compared to Innocent Eyes - Quinn’s book. This starts off a lot slower than I expected it to. But still I enjoyed the push and pull of Nate and Gabby. How freaking hot they are together. I loved their carefree behaviour even though they were both running from something. Then it hit 35% and BOOM! Action. Violence. Blood. Nate Cane is possessive and domineering without the whole bombastic attitude of Quinn. Bloody love him! I do love their dynamic though. Brothers in every sense of the word but so different in every other way! Then we have Gabriella Alves. Cunning. Beautiful. And brave. And gives Nate a run for his money and stands up To Quinn. If you’ve not started this series yet then DO IT TODAY. It’ll have you ignoring the rest of the world for a few hours while you sink into the world of Cane. I can’t wait to see how they rule from here on out now they’re both on the same page. Fantastic series!
Nate Cane. The quiet man behind his dominant brother Quinn. When Nate has had enough of the family business, trying to go legitimate and Quinn’s lady Emily, he leaves to get away from the frustration and madness for a while. Gabby is running from a diamond drop gone bad. Alone, she knows the drill - get off the grid fast! She meets Nate in Bora Bora and the two connect for a hot time being free and having a vacation sex while not acknowledging who they really are. And wow! The authors have not let us down in the sexual chemistry and total hotness from Nate and Gabby. Even better than, dare I say it, Emily and Quinn! When Gabby leaves in the middle of the night, Nate has no way to find the woman who he discovers he has feelings for. Could he ask Quinn to help? I loved this book and so look forward to more darkness and light from the Queens Charlotte E. Hart and Rachel De Lune.
I was given an ARC of this in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. I have given this book a solid 4 stars!
Rachel and Charlotte are an absolutely formidable writing duo and once again prove why they need to be on the top of every bodies must read list.
Nate might not be my favourite brother but he certainly is a dark horse. Rachel and Charlotte manage to bring to life his story with such vivid details that it will draw you in and you will not want to put it down for anything! I devoured Devious Eyes in one sitting, it was just so good!!!
I was taken on an emotional roller coaster of ride, which took turn after turn leaving me feeling emotionally wrung out by the end. It was dark and fast paced, laced with anger and tension that jumped off the pages. These authors are not afraid to explore the dark side and their combined writing style makes for a winning combination
If you have read Innocent Eyes or just fancy something different, then I recommend you read Devious Eyes. It might just be the best thing you do.
I was given an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. Nate and Gabby meet by chance on beautiful Bora Bora. Both in hiding for different reasons. Neither one of them expect more than a holiday fling. This story has you on the edge of your seat with all the twists and turns. Had me crying ugly in some places. It kept me hooked from start to finish. By then end, I got the feeling that they aren’t quite done with the Canes just yet. Cannot wait for the next one. Yet another seamless collaboration from these two talented ladies.
Another stunning collaboration by Hart and De Lune! Seamlessly written, page turner of a story. The Canes continues on with Nate in the forefront, he's sexy, demanding, volatile, a Cane through and through. He meets his match in Gabriella, a beautifully stunning thief, witty, charming, devious and Nates perfect match in all ways. The sex is panty melting hot. This book is filled with intrigue, violence and Quinn being his infuriating self. Bring on the next one ladies!
