A must read for EVERYONE. Men and women included. Jane Lewis has written an easy-to-read book that offers important advice and understanding about something that will affect every single woman on this planet sometime in their life (if they live long enough). Believe me, someone you know is suffering from some form of this, whether it is your mother, your daughter, your wife, your sister, your aunt, your cousin or yourself. There is help, if you become informed. Don't expect your doctors to help you! (I have horror stories!!) They are largely uninformed on this topic and you need to be your own best friend and get informed. Help yourself. Help a loved one. Read this book.
With the UK & Ireland having Menopause awareness at an all time high at the moment (perfectly timed for me) I've been researching and reading as much as I can get my hands on. This was recommended by one of the many new Instagram accounts that I follow, it may have been Davina McCall actually. It's a very brave and heart-breaking example of just how women are suffering unbearable agony and mostly in shame. Thank goodness for the trail-blazers in our midst! For a short book (120 odd pages) it's jam-packed with info and advice all told with a bit of humour too. As one of the quotes says, "If you have a vagina, know or love someone with a vagina, you need to read this book."
Well, this was an eye opener. So much in this book I didn’t know before… which is very telling about our society and medical care systems and education. Like the author points out in this book, there’s plenty out there about other aspects of women’s reproductive health- particularly pre menopausal- but atrophy? Not so much. The author’s condition sounds like an extreme case - at least I hope it is - and it shocked me out of my complacency. Whilst I don’t suffer at the same level, I have hit problems as I’ve aged and I certainly don’t want to end up where she is, as it sounds horrific. I did appreciate the humour and straight talk in this book. Despite the seriousness of the topic, the author still managed to be funny and engaging.
Any woman suffering from Vaginal Atrophy will find this book enormously helpful with information and suggestions for treatment , and also will benefit with spirit lifting understanding and humor. Written in laymen terms, it is easy to read, down to earth explanations of the condition, and most of all, offering help for those experiencing this pain. Thank you Jane for your courage, sincere concern for others, and wonderful sense of humor! You turned my life around with your wit, honesty and "can do" attitude.
If you have a vagina or know someone who has, you need to read this. Brilliantly written and so easy to understand, it engaged me in a way that almost took me by surprise. I’ve learned things I’d never considered - and since I’m 45 years old, just learning things about my vagina now is a little shameful (but that shame is aimed at society for making it SO taboo). I have just started perimenopause so am not currently suffering from VA and hope I won’t but to get the perspective of someone suffering is really educational. Ladies, let’s not suffer in silence any longer xx
I was recommended this book by a friend so took the plunge and bought it as I’m of a certain age! I found the book very informative in a frank funny relatable way and I’m sure it will empower women to get the best care possible me for their symptoms, any book that helps raise the subject of menopause and all its associated problems should be commended for raising awareness and hopefully leading to greater understanding of this condition.
This book came to me at a time of need. I didn't know what menopause truly was until it hit me like a car crash. This book gave me some comfort from knowing that I am not alone, written with honesty, and humour. It's advice, suggestions, and information are invaluable. For anyone, this book is a must read. As women, we should know this stuff. As men we need to know this stuff. It's about an hour and a half read, and it's empowering.
Honestly the most open and honest book I have ever read. I purchased this to learn more about the menopause in a professional sense as I am a nurse BUT equally I am a woman with a vagina and one day this could be my reality, Very informative and hopefully now I can assist my patients in ways to support them and I am forearmed with information when my times comes!!
An absolute must read for all women (and men). This book will help you understand the process of perimenopause and the effect it can have on your body, with loads of helpful advice. Even if you don’t suffer from VA (yet) we all have mums, sisters, aunties, daughters, friends in our life who might just need a little bit of understanding. Take courage.
I’m so glad I came across this book from a Facebook group. I’m not sure what I’m dealing with at the moment but the horrific burning day in day out is not normal. A male GP told me I’m too young to be suffering from low hormones. I’m 45. This book has made me realise I’m not alone and that there is support out there.
Very informative although a little long winded. Jane allows the reader to share her very painful and emotional journey. Thank's Jane. This book should be compulsory reading for all girls over 40, no all girls irrespective🤗
Invaluable information and advice for a subject that is never spoken about but affects all women to some degree as they age! Not just for menopausal women, everyone young and old should have this knowledge.
I am a 22 year Public Health Masters student and I read this as part of some research - but honestly I think everyone at every age should read this. Fantastic educational and amusing book :)
