It takes a special kind of magic to hide in plain sight.
I've been hiding all my life but now I'm doing it for my country. My partner in crime? A chameleon dragon who takes things way too seriously. They keep telling me that the world hangs in the balance, but I try not to take things like explosions, spies, and illicit magic too seriously. After all, I get to ride a dragon! That is ... when she lets me.
DRAGON CHAMELEON: ROGUE'S QUEST is episode one of a brand new series set in the world of DRAGON SCHOOL. Expect a new episode every second Wednesday.

What did I expect? Nothing less than amazing from Sarak K. L. Wilson And she did not disappoint!!!
Set in the same world as Dragon School series, we old fans and new readers are introduced to a new character, a thief named Tor. Who has been promised to learn to ride dragons and go on adventures by a dragon rider.
After the battles that were seen in Dragon School series, the cities are now in restoration, but it is during these times that the enemy will try to weaken the cities more. To survive, Tor has had to lie and cheat his way through life to have enough food and water to sustain him. But after a promise from a dragon rider to get him out of that place, Tor anxiously waits and longs to be at the new Dragon School, to pick the dragon he wants and start his lesson
But what Tor does not know is he will be thrown into a whole new adventure that he least expects, to be paired with a dragon who is not has good humoured as he is and he will have to risk his neck all the time. Which is not exactly what he signed up for!
In this new series, I can tell it will be a great one as the previous one, perhaps even better. We will have to wait and see !
Recieved a copy from the author herself, for an honest review, thank you!
And here comes the next series by Sarah K.L. Wilson, and I am hooked again, as i was with the previous one. Tor and Saboraak, the female chameleon dragon. What a funny pair. Loved it from the beginning.
I loved this authors Dragon School series and was very happy to find out that this series is set in the same world. We met Tor Winespring at the end of the Dragon School series and we get to see what happens with him after Hubric takes him under his wing in that series. This is a completely different main character and main dragon. I love Saboraak's snark and sass, and how she gives Tor a run for his money. I can not wait to read more about this new dragon/rider duo! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Yay, I was already hoping this series would be about Tor. I really liked the first installment. It gave us a nice view into Tor and his way of thinking, it introduced another great dragon (and a female, which makes me really glad) and set us off nicely into a new story. I loved the appearances and mentions of the characters we grew to love so much in the Dragon School series, setting this story firmly in the same worls. I'm curious how this will play out!
I have been binge-happy lately, getting really into book series and not able to put them down. Probably at the top of my list of binge-worthy series is Sarah K. L. Wilson’s Dragon Chameleon series, set in the same world as her fabulous Dragon School series (which I’ve re-read more than once and highly recommend). I’d read one of the Dragon Chameleon books before and loved it. When the latest, City of Ice, came out I just had to start from book 1 and binge read through the whole thing. That book 1, Rogue's Quest, was the perfect way to start a sequel series, placing it clearly in the works of Dragon School (but in a way that totally works as an intro that world for readers who don’t plan on reading that series) while introducing Tor (a wonderful scoundrel of a character) and - most importantly - his dragon partner, Saboraak, the dragon chameleon and the spy mission handed over to them by Hubric. I love the totally different “voices” of these characters and, especially, how Tor and Saboraak interact. Added to a pretty darn exciting book this definitely drew me in and started a new addiction. That addiction only worsened with book 2, Paths of Deception. The action heated up with this one bit, to me even more importantly, the character development went into overdrive. It was a total pleasure watching Tor evolve over the course of these pages - an evolution that was perfectly done. Added to yet another great plot and a cast of great characters (especially Shabren, Bataar, and sisters Zyla and Zin) and I couldn’t wait to dive into book 3. Luckily I had that book 3 (the reason I started my binge read, after all). City of Ice was, quite simply, superb. Things are looking pretty bad for Tor, Saboraak and their friends (especially Bataar) but I wouldn’t count them out. Once again an exciting story, and once again loads of fun watching Tor develop into a superb character. Really that character development, and the character building of the cast in general, is what made this book and the entire series so special. It already had a great story arc and individual book plots full of action, adventure, wild twists and turn and pretty darn nicely done humor. I’d have given the series a five based on that, but the character development is what makes this series truly exceptional. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. Each of the books in this series definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that this series is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. A recommendation - and five stars - that I’m happy to apply to this first book in the series.
This is my review of the audio version as posted on Audible:
It's a good start to a new series, although it has some flaws. The biggest one is that there is not enough information of the world and its history right at the beginning of the book, we are just thrown into what feels like the middle of an adventure that already started a while back... It makes it a bit difficult to understand what is going on at first, but luckily soon new events develop into a new adventure and we eagerly follow that one until it reaches... well, not a satisfying ending but a huge cliffhanger. And that's the second big fault of the book I can pinpoint. I really, really hate cliffhangers. I know it's a part of a series, still, I'd like to have at least some kind of a closure at the end of each book. Other than that, you can't complain about the plot - it's fast-paced, with some good action scenes and some funny moments between Tor, Hubric and their dragons.
As far as characters go, they feel alright. Tor can be irritating and whiny at times but works well in opposition to his dragon, who considers herself much smarter than him. Hubric is quite mysterious, his motivation still not entirely obvious to the reader/listener, and there's that feeling of mistrust that seems right in a story of war and espionage.
The narration by Mr Rhead is quite good, but at times a bit monotonous and lacking emotions where I felt they could be conveyed more emphatically. And the female voice sounds rather strange, luckily there are only a few lines of that, so it's bearable. But generally it's quite a good rending of the story.
DISCLAIMER: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I really liked it. I hadn’t even read one page and already I was fully captivated. I read the Dragon School series and this is set in that world. I don’t think this stands alone though. Better to read the Dragon School series first, to fully understand this world of dragons and Magikas etc. Complicated if you have no prior knowledge. This is episode one of a new adventure.
Because this story is set in the same world as Dragon School, I automatically started comparing. And I have to be honest: I had to get used to Tor. I loved Amel but I have to shake that off. Tor isn’t as likeable but he is funny, independent, and a real con artist. But also arrogant and headstrong, big mouth, big attitude. But secretly he has a good heart. Amel had a way of really talking (telepathing) WITH her dragon. Tor is more distant. He thinks about his dragon in the third form, example: “What was she saying?” They don’t get along immediately and that made for some funny conversations.
I did very much like the dry, honest sense of humor Saboraak (the Chameleon Dragon) has.
It was adventurous, fast-paced, and entertaining! Things happened so fast! Danger coming from everywhere! I do think a little more information would be better for those who haven’t read Dragon School. I really really really liked it, but for me, it hasn’t yet reached the high level of Dragon School. That series deserved 6 stars, but I could only give it 5. To show the difference, I decided to give this 4 stars.
The first book that I am reviewing for the new year is Book 1 in Sarah K. L. Wilson's new series: Dragon Chameleon 1: Rogue's Quest. I did receive this as an ARC for an honest review.
If you have read her other series the Dragon Academy, GREAT, but you do not have to read the previous series to start this new series. It has new characters, new mission, and new adventures. Though I will say, I may have a better understanding of the back story if I had read the previous series.
I am sure that you are wondering at this point what I thought of the book...I liked the book. Sarah has done an amazing job creating the characters, the world they live in, and I felt a real connection to what was going on. Now with that said..I am not personally a huge fan of books where the main character is male. I know that is a bit chauvinistic...and to make it more confusing I love books that switch between the female and the male character's POV..but I have a hard time getting into books that are male lead.
All and all I would give this book at 4 out 5 stars. It is a quick, easy fun read - somewhere between a short story and full out novel...but that is what is great about her whole series. Quick, well written parts to make a whole. If you love some dragons, quick wit, and of course the hero that does not want to be, you are on the right track with this one.
Dragon Chameleon: Rogue’s Quest is book one in Sarah K.L. Wilson’s new spin-off series from the Dragon School serial. This story picks up after the destruction of the cities and follows a young vagabond by the name of Tor. He’s waiting on his friend to come and take him to a better life, but something isn’t right in the world. He sees something strange, learns something terrifying and now he has an opportunity for a new life…a change has come, but danger lurks at every turn. Dragon Chameleon Rogue’s Quest is a good start to this new series. We are introduced to new characters but a familiar storyline as this is still in the Dragon School world. I’ll admit that my mind kept wanting to make the main character a girl, but I soon got past that and accepted it’s a male main character this time. I have to admit that I love the dragon interactions between the characters. The humor is fantastic. I have to say that the old purple dragon has the best sense of humor. The storyline is well paced and definitely had me page-turning in certain scenes and situations. Mind you, this is a serial so the story is short, but it is well done. I’m eager to read the next book in this series to learn what happens next with Tor and his new companions. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. If you read Sarah K.L. Wilson’s Dragon School series and enjoyed it then, by all means, grab this book up! A new journey has begun and you don’t want to miss out!
Fantastic journey of a boy with his chameleon dragon
Tor is a street-wise kid, dreams of being a dragon rider, and lives in a war-torn town that's half destroyed. He helps Hubric and his dragon, Kyrowat save some people from buildings that were burning. Tor is just surviving until Hubic returns from his mission to take him to Dragon School.
Hubruc take him to meet Saboraak, the only female dragon that's willing to take a rider. They rescued Saboraak from the Magikas who were torturing her for her magic. Then they proceeded to to rescue a girl and fellow spy named Zaya from Magikas encampment. Has he gotten over his head because this is not taking him to Dragon School?
The characters are relatable, bold, and enchanting. This is book is an appetizer to tease the palate for the new series about Dragon Riders. It's kind of like dragonriders of Pern series but geared mostly for youthful readers of which I am at age 68. I love these two different dragonriders series but are spin-offs of each other. Which makes for exciting epic dragon tales that is a must read. I would highly recommend and would probably give a 6 Stars if I could.
A new series, a new chapter in the world of Dragon School.
Before I started this book I thought it would just take place in the world of Dragon School with some similarities, probably years later or so. I didn’t expect so many familiar places and names so soon. And that it basically is “season 2” of Dragon School. I love it. A new dragon and her rider and new intel to gather on the realm and the people and other species like dragons in them. You thought you knew it all? Guess again.
At first it took a while for the story to pick up, but the slow pace is actually great to get back into the world and get a bit familiar with the new main character of the story. Soon after, you dive right into it. The relationship between dragon and rider is so familiar to Amel and Raolcan but at the same time so opposite. At times you almost wonder if they simply changed roles. At the end you also get right in the action and suspicion. I’m curious to where this is headed! (And if we run into more familiar names and places along the way ;))

This book picks up where the last Dragon School Book Ends, so the situation is clear to those having read the previous series. However, the focus, or “Hero” of this book appears to be Tor, a ragamuffin who had been promised a place in the Dragon School when Hubric returned for him. However, due to the war from the preceeding series, circumstances have altered plans for Tor. Initially, Tor is not very likeable, as he has been hardened by street-living in a war zone which is now only rubble. There are glimpses of the kind of young man he COULD become, if given the basic necessities of life, love and guidance—all of which are missing in his life. Even in this episode, we see some improvements in his attitudes, but major changes await. A key player in his development may well be a dragon! In so few pages, a major story has a basis laid that promises a good adventure for the reader. I find myself, as with the initial series, eagerly awaiting the next episode.
If you’ve read Sarah K.L. Wilson’s Dragon School series, you’re going to thoroughly enjoy her new Dragon Chameleon series set in the same world with a few new characters and new forces of evil to battle. Rogue’s Quest follows the life of a street kid named Tor Winespring and his dragon Saboraak. Tor gets introduced at the end of the Dragon School series. He helps the efforts to save lives when his city is burning to the ground. Hubric takes him under his wing at that time and promises to return for him and give him the opportunity to become a dragon rider. Rogue’s Quest picks up with Tor still waiting for a promise from Hubric that he is beginning to think was a lie. Follow Tor as he gets thrust into an adventure bigger than he ever wanted. And just when the story is getting really good, it ends on a cliffhanger that will leave you breathless and wanting more!
I received an ARC of this book, but I also purchased it on pre-order. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This is the first book of Sarah's I have read/listened to so wasn't sure what to expect. I am glad I took a punt on it as it is a brilliant introduction to what looks like an excellent series.
The story follows a boy called Tor who is a bit of a rogue, until he gets himself mixed up with a man who takes him on an adventure. During this adventure he ends up saving a dragon's life and together they are sent on a possible suicide mission to save a young girl from some evil people. The book kind of ends abruptly, but this just means that I am now desperate to listen to the next one in the series.
Before writing this review I looked at other ones and noticed something about a Dragon School series - I hadn't heard of or read this series and still enjoyed this book, which implies to me that you don't need to have read them first. Obviously I am now off to read them anyway
Tor had really wanted to ride a dragon of his own ever since he had ridden with Hubric on his dragon. Hubric had left him in Vanika city with the promise that he would come back for him and take him to be a dragon rider. When Hubric showed up months later, he was hustled away on an important mission. He was quite literally thrown into a rescue situation and told to cut her loose. It turns out that the "her" was a female dragon who had been captured and tied down. This dragon was remarkable in as much as she could change colour and to some degree - her shape. Tor was bound to both Hubric, as his mentor, and the dragon. His next task was to infiltrate a Magikas camp and rescue a girl. No problems - right?
I am one of those who absolutely loved Dragon School and couldn't wait for Dragon Chameleon to come out. But at the same time I was worried how this will fit in or if it will just be a cheap sequel. I didn't have to worry! Dragon Chameleon not only has a different “kind” of dragon but also a totally different main character. All the while we still meet dear characters from the previous series. And even better, you won't really need to have read Dragon School. I know Tor is not as likable as Amel from the start but I think we will see him grow and not least with the help of his dragon. Saboorak will have her hands full with him...
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Sarah Wilson has done it again. She has created another serial series that started with Dragon School. The war is over, however there is much unrest in the Dominion. Still plenty of enemies that are scattered across the country. Tor, dreams of becoming a Dragon Rider at the Dragon School.. His wish may come true but not in the way he expected. Hubric the purple rider recruits Tor for a special and dangerous mission and introduced him to Saboraak, a chameleon dragon. The adventure begins and what a ride it is! This is a fantastic book. The beginning of a new series and well worth the read. You won't be disappointed. I highly recommend this book!
I loved the male human and female dragon bonding that happened but I want more time between them to develop the love they have for each other. I also hope they can be mates.
Looking forward to book 2.
Hopefully in time Tor will learn his true love is his bonded dragon and realize he can't be separated from her for long.
I hope there more time with them together alone.
All he needs is her by his side and companions but mostly her.
More dragon riders needed to.
I want to know why they are after him.
He no clue how lucky he is to be bonded to a female dragon.
Well this book definitely a read after dragon school.
This continues on from the Dragon School series and we now have a different pair, Tor and Saboraak, the female chameleon dragon, who look like being a pair we will be rooting for much as we did the characters in Dragon School. Tor has lied and cheated in order to live and this might be a blessing or curse in his new life as a Dragon Rider, while his dragon is a female one which we haven't seen before, all the previous dragons being male, and she is also a chameleon which is most unusual and will I'm sure lead to great adventures. This was a great read if a little short but I cannot wait for the next in the series.
I don't like the start of this one as much I as did with the Dragon School series. A lot has to do with that I don't like Tor the main character. He's arrogant, annoying and unlikable. I am hoping he becomes a better character in the books to come but if he stays this way I won't finish reading this series. I loved Dragon School and a lot of that had to do with Amel and Raocolan. Lets hope the series gets better.
*I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
I sm so happy this series is about Tor!!! After waiting to see who it was about and how it started I wasn't disappointed. Tour states his journey as a dragon rider by being taken as a apprentice spy and his first job is to help save a girl. But to his dismay he can't find her. But he takes time to help a dragon and is introduced to... the first female dragon who he helped save. He is sent off to save another girl. Oh how much can go on in one book? This book keeps you away the edge of toy seat till the end

All Tor wants is to go to Dragon School and become a dragon rider. Surely, wherever the old man takes him will be better than the burnout city where he lives. I receive a free copy of this storyfrom the author. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This is the first story that I have read by the author. This is the start of a series of stories. The story was imaginative and suspenseful. I did enjoy reading it. Even though this story is complete in itself, I realize that this is just the start of the adventures and danger that Tor will be part of.
After the battle to establish the Dominar as the rightful leader of the Dominion, Hubric has chosen another apprentice. He had promised a young man named Tor that he would take him to enroll in Dragon School, but due to circumstances of war, Hubric has been given the task to lead a spy mission. He has chosen Tor, to assist in this mission to completely defeat the Magikas. It is a very dangerous mission and one that requires both bravery and deception, the latter which better describes Tor's abilities. I was provided a free copy of this ebook, and loved it enough to review.
Dragon Chameleon: Rogue’s Quest takes place in Sarah K. L. Wilson’s Dragon School world. A young man lives in a city that has been destroyed. All who remain barely survive. However, Tor has been promised that he will be able to leave and ride his own dragon. I Although, the promise is fulfilled, it isn’t quite what he expected. Join Tor as he learns what kind of man he is destined to become. I recommend this coming of age Fantasy to anyone who enjoys magic and intrigue and .... dragons! I was given a copy of this ebook at my request, and I voluntarily provided my honest review.
Exactly what I’ve come to expect from this author. A fast paced exciting story with a cliff hanger ending. A new set of characters are introduced, with Tor Winespring, a young roque who has seen a lot in his young life. What ever it is he has, Hubric and his dragon believe he has got what it takes to be a spy. His introduction to his dragon Saboraak is memorable. They are both new to the dragon / rider concept which makes from some enjoyable dialogue between them. So grab your favourite beverage, curl up in your favourite reading spot and enjoy a new series. Highly recommend.
I enjoyed this story. The characters were well written and the story world was very realistic. I didn't particularly like the main character - Tor, but I understand that he grows on you. :) Towards the end of the book, I can see that this is a true comment, I definitely liked him better. I always love dragon stories and have enjoyed all of Sarah's Dragon School books that I've read, so it is no surprise that I enjoyed this story too! I highly recommend this for anyone that enjoys fantasy adventure and a fast read.
Another great series from Sarah K.L. Wilson. This one starts with Tor, a young man who figured somewhat prominently in the rescue of people in Vanika during the war in the Dragon School series. It was nice to revisit Hubrick and Kyrowat--two of my favorites--and to see what became of Ephretti after the war. The new twist in this series is that there's now a female dragon bound to a human. You'll have to read this to learn just HOW different that is! I highly recommend this, especially to fans of Dragon School. Now...back to reading Book 2.
If you have read and liked Sarah K.L. Wilson’s Dragon School series you will enjoy her new Dragon Chameleon series set in the same world with a few new characters and new forces of evil to battle. I am one that loved Dragon School and couldn't wait to read Dragon Chameleon. Dragon Chameleon not only has a different kind of dragon but also a different main character. All the while we still have old characters from the previous series and you don't have read the Dragon School series to read the Dragon Chameleon series but really who would want to pass up on it.
I really enjoyed reading this book. This is the first book in the newest Dragon School series, and this time around you meet Tor and the female dragon Saboraak. I'm definitely ready to embark on new adventures with this pair. If you are a fan of fantasy, dragons, and adventures, you should invest in this series. You can read it even if you haven't read any of the books in the previous series without risking any spoilers (though I still recommend you read the first set if you haven't already).
