Whether you're an avid athlete working out five hours a day or a yoga enthusiast working out a few days a week, Essential Sports Nutrition has a little something for everyone. While it can be a little dense and "sciencey" in areas, the after chapter summaries do a great job outlining all the key points and takeaways. This book includes recipes, tips on how and what to fuel up on, how to create a meal plan that works for your body and your unique active lifestyle, and so much more. It's a comprehensive guide that manages to not get too overwhelming. Reading this opened my eyes to so many factors that can affect your health and diet such as time of year, bodily changes, types of food, etc. This book will definitely inspire you to make healthy changes. Even incremental steps are better than no steps at all! A must own guide for anyone that is remotely active, there are no fad diets, or sketchy meal plans, everything is science based!

This is my first read about nutrition. The author does a good job introducing different nutrient groups, their effect on the human body and where to get them (I’m fairly sure I learnt about this in middle school but never paid attention). The second part is about what to eat before/during/after training/competition. If you're interested about supplements, this is also where you can find more information. The discussion then spans out to other topics where nutrition is concerned. This part is wide, but not deep. The author touches everything, but very briefly. The book ended with some "recipes for success".

The book is a little dry and repetitive at parts. But since it’s a short book (30% of the book is recipes), I was able to finished it without much difficulty. Also note that this book does not have references to the author’s claims. So you’ll have to trust her words for it or find a more authoritative source.

I follow Marni's blog and enjoy her writing there. I also respect her knowledge in the area of nutrition and exercises. She knows what she is doing and shows that in a down-to-earth way that makes her quite relatable. This book also appealed to me because Marni does not dumb down the information which appeals to the science nerd in me.
I definitely recommend this book as a way to jumpstart ideas for fine tuning athletic nutrition.

I asked a nutritionist for a recommendation to learn more about eating and nutrition. They recommended this book, but it was not the right book for me. This reads more like a textbook for practicing nutritionist, not so much for the layperson trying to learn more about eating. Might be a good book for someone else, but for me it was not the right book at this time.

A good summary of the topic, but nowadays a lot more is known about it than the book states.

I liked it

Good information and the recipes in the back are an added bonus. Not too technical. I would recommend to a friend.
