When a scandalous tabloid reporter is gunned down in broad daylight, the question isn’t who did it, but who wouldn’t? The man had “dirt” on some of the biggest names in politics and business, and rumor has it he was ready to break something big… a scandal that could threaten the upcoming elections, and even the very foundations of government.
Caught up in a tide of crime and controversy, where friend and foe alike are poised upon the razor’s edge…
DS Richard Pierce finds his career and his reputation in peril when he is accused of planting evidence to frame the “Cathgate Ripper”, a vicious serial killer whose trial is poised to begin. Convinced of his innocence, Kate Gardener races desperately to gather evidence to salvage the case and exonerate Pierce.
Kate has balanced on that edge before… but will she be able to save her friends without falling from grace herself?
Always a spinner of tales, Gabriella Messina’s journey as an author began in the realm of screenwriting. Whether writing fantasy or crime fiction, short stories, or full-length novels, Ms. Messina brings a fresh point of view and a pearl of snarky wisdom to her work, exploring science, justice, faith, and feeling in equal measure.
When not writing, she enjoys indulging in her favorite “guilty pleasures”: coffee and chocolate, watching car racing with her son, and spending too much time looking at music videos online.
The only thing I don’t like about this series is that it’s not complete and I now have to wait (very impatiently) for the next book!! LOL Kidding!! There’s nothing I don’t love about this series!! I’m totally and absolutely addicted!!
No, I hope this series never ends, but seriously, I am loving all of these characters more and more with each book. Gabrielle Messina is brilliant at weaving these mysteries in ways to not only solve the current crime but keeps giving you hints as to bigger problems to come.
This fifth book I devoured shortly after completing book four. I just couldn’t stop reading. This is quickly becoming my absolute favorite mystery series.
Kate and the crew need to figure out who actually killed and who was trying to kill reporter, Avery Barber. Was the slow poisoning not going quick enough for someone or was it someone else who had a problem with this overzealous reporter? That’s what they need to find out.
There’s multiple stories going on throughout the books and the best thing is, you never get confused. Each storyline is its own as entwined itself into Kate’s new world. For instance, I’m very curious as to why the Goldstone men have it out for Richard Pierce. He, along with Kate, is one of my favorite characters in this series. He’s a great guy and an awesome detective. He’s mysterious in ways and incredibly kind and open in others. Even though he is fighting his own battles in this book he still plays a major roll throughout the book.
I am definitely ready for more of Kate and her friends. I’m excited to find out more about Kate and her new friends and co-workers. I do have my favorites I’m secretly rooting for and hope end up together but you need to read the books and find your own favorites.
