Rate this book
A chain and a collar can restrain a man, but the innocence of an angel breaks the devil.

Once upon a time, there was a nobleman and Nyx was his name. He was respectful, principled, and handsome. The young man owned several ships and managed his late-father’s fishing business. He spent the past few years doing nothing but taking care of his mother and older sister, and struggling to deal with the selfishness of his stepfather.
One day, the fates threw him into a dangerous predicament and he found himself being saved by the devil.

Agenor, Captain of the Martina pirate crew. Strong and ruthless, Agenor was known across the sea as 'the Devil'. At their first encounter, Agenor couldn’t help but be enchanted by the innocent angel. Drawn to him, he entrapped him and abused him. He didn’t listen to Nyx’s pleas and repeatedly denied him escape.

This story depicts Nyx's adventure as he struggled to live among pirates, avoided their bullying and harassment, and discovered his evolving feelings towards his captor.

I hope you enjoy the sexy pirates and the innocent lamb caught in between.

I honestly don't know how to rate this. On the one hand, I did enjoy the story despite itself, but on the other hand, the writing style and grammar are so.... odd that I can't decide if it's intentional to have a more "old fashioned" and "pirate-y" feel or if English is not the first most comfortable language for the author or if it's just desperate for editing. Many of the words that should end in "ing" just don't. It's weird and takes some getting used to. Once I decided to think of it as pirate speak, I had an easier time of it. Additionally, there are several POV's in this book, not just the MC's. Although each chapter is labeled for the POV, sometimes a paragraph would slip in from another POV. I have to wonder what a publisher with good editors could have done with this book since it comes off as more amateur than most self published books but still manages to be quite engaging.

Now, enjoying the story doesn't mean it's without issues. Plot wise, it's thin and very weird to me that they spend months and months at sea without making land for supplies and that they only raid one ship that unbelievably snuck up on them. Character wise, it's absolutely rape-y and there is no lube anywhere to be found in this book. None. Never. It makes these the most cringe worthy sex scenes I've read in a while that I didn't think intended to stress the reader out. The noncon, dubcon and eventual reluctant consensual scenes made me tense up and I could never believe anything pleasurable was happening for Nyx. Additionally, this is big time Stockholm syndrome-y and both Agenor (I had to look up how to pronounce that name) and Nyx go round and round thinking the same thing time after time, it got a bit redundant.

This ends with a HFN and there is supposedly three books to this. Apparently this story has been available for a while on wattpad as well.

Since it's KU, I would say if pirate themes interest you, give this one a try and see what you think.

I just want to say I read this when it was first published on Wattpad, and I loved it so much. I started the second book and I think I stopped somewhere after the middle. Randomly enough, I just started a pirate related show, and thought of these books. I remembered you saying you were going to actually release a more legit version of this, and I had a prideful moment for you when I looked it up just now. I will definitely re-read this again. I haven't used Wattpad in years, and I'm glad I found it when I did. A bit of the story is coming back to me now haha. "Well done, Syrvy!!" Lol that would definitely give me away, but I doubt you'd remember it lol!

i hate that the book was at wattpad, and after the author saw that alot of people read it, she removed it. i feel used in the sense that since we the readers at wattpad made it famous, the author should have edited it and made it better, but still leave the original version on wattpad. i feel used and un appreciated by authors who do this

Loved this book. I so want to say a few things, but I will spoil it for those who want to read it. People, if you love pirates, then this is a must for you. Backstabbing, love, fighting and all of the things you can think of going on in a pirate book, yeah, it will be in there. I have been following Syrvat since her days at Wattpad, read it there, then bought the Kindle versions of the book, before finally getting myself my paperback novels. Still have to get the third book, but I am going to start on the second one, Against Tide soon. She is an amazing author, she takes you in places you never knew would exist if you just read a normal book. It is the way she writes that draws you in to make you want to read it.

Honestly? This is a good book despite all the flaws. The MC is cute, I love it since it was on Wattpad and Syrvat is putting it back on Wattpad now. The first time I heard that this was published, hardcopy and all, I was happy that the author can earn for their work cause they deserve it so I don't get why people are so angry that they took it off Wattpad. Wattpad doesn't give enough monetary opportunities, especially for LGBTQ books, so don't go barking at the author. Though I can access it on Wattpad, I bought a copy to support the author and they don't even sell it in our country. Normalize earning for your works guys.

Anyway, I love the book, it's pirates, being in love, and hardships despite the differences. It's sacrifice and beauty packed in an unconventional love story.

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE BOOK MUST READ YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!
Read this book when it was still available on Wattpad, recommended it heavily too.
Missed it, used to read it all the time. I was going to read a bit I liked and forgot it was published and searched the title up.
Saw it that it didn’t have a 5 star review!
So I naturally did when anybody would do and signed into my old good reads account and gave it a five star.
When I have the money I will buy this book!!!
