“Will he give me a second chance?”

Dr. Kent King left home to attend medical school, and to experience life on his own. He also left behind his first love, and he’s never forgotten the sizzling chemistry they shared. Offered the job of his dreams, he returns home excited to be making a difference providing medical care to the less fortunate. Will the blue-eyed man he can't forget be able to forgive him for leaving in the first place?

Never able to forget his first love, Erik Rhoads struggles to keep his head above water. Like a turtle he retreats into his shell when tragedy strikes. Unable to cope with his feelings or the people who care for him the most, he hits rock bottom. A true survivor, he will pick himself up, shake the dust off, and begin the process of becoming whole again. But will his heart survive the return of the only man he’s ever loved?

Lovefool is a second chance gay romance novel about a Doctor who lives to help others and the man he can never forget. It’s a steamy tale about the foolish things boys do when they are in love, and of course it has a HEA. This is the first book in The Boys of Oregon Hill series, and can be read as a stand alone novel.

Ian O. Lewis has been a victim of “so many books, so little time” on my TBR so I was happy to give this a try. Kent and Eric were each other’s firsts, dating and living together through college. Erik’s mother and Kent’s father started dating and living together too, so they were sort of stepbrothers. (adds just a hint of taboo flavor.) Kent breaks up with Erik to attend medical school and explore himself more, dating a woman so I assume he’s bi. She becomes important to the the story later. Erik, left behind, never gets over Kent, then later his mother dies sending him into a depressive spiral. When Kent returns after 8 years, he wants Erik back, realizing he never stopped loving him. It’s not that easy though. Erik seems to blame himself for people leaving him and I’d really like to have seen him get mad at Kent, since he was kind of a pushy jerk and not considerate of Erik’s feelings too often.

Much of the narrative has some back and forth between them and Kent’s father at least gives him some lectures. At least Erik had decided to get help for his depression before Kent came back. This a character driven plot with fairly good characterization, although I’d have liked more for Erik. The prologue really threw me and I’d rather have seen it expanded with more dialogue about what was occurring and why. Explanations came later but then didn’t fully meet my expectations. I became confused a couple of times when the alternating voices were not always distinct enough. It was a good story though, kept me engaged and hoping things would work out when Kent gets rather stupid again. It’s a good second chance romance with a HEA epilogue I really liked.

I wanted to like this story more than I actually did.
Not even the HEA made me feel anything about these guys. It happens. This was just not for me.
I read the words and they told a story I couldn't feel. Also not a fan of the structure, those flashbacks and those repeat scenes from another POV. I think instead if hooking me to whatever was happening, they just made me disengage further.
We're all different, lots of people did/will appreciate what I couldn't ^^

I'll keep reading 📖

The one that got away.

They were as closer than brothers, closer, considering their parents were dating. Yet all their plans came to a stop when Kent made the decision to go off alone. It had not been the plan, but he saw how much Eric thrived in their hometown and with he job he loved. How could Kent take him away from that?

"I would not allow anyone to leave me again." ~Eric

Everyone just leaves me, that was Eric feelings. He had lost the love of his life, Kent, then his mother and inadvertently , his mother's partner when it all became to much for him. Now that Kent was back, Eric was not certain he could survive. The feelings never went away, but would Kent again. Eric just didn't think he could commit knowing the end result.

"I will make you mine again." ~Kent

There was a lot of tension between the men and what they wanted. It was good to see them both grow, and man up, and look toward destiny.

I hesitated with this book, pushing to truly getting into it, wanting so much more. But I focused, absorbed the words and the energy that the author was exuding. I got the avenue the author was heading and finally understood the meaning behind it all.

I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author through LesCourt.

This book is about second chances and overcoming fears and insecurities, and was more emotional than I had anticipated going in. You may want to have a few tissues handy. I liked the story for the most part, but I admit I had a hard time with Kent at times. For a doctor, he seemed rather naïve sometimes, especially when it came to Brandi. And to not say anything about what happened with Erik and Brandi in the past and expect Erik to be okay with .. well I don't want to spoil anything, so let's just say I don't understand his reactions - or non-reactions - and how he did not see how they would affect Erik. I just thought he seemed selfish at times. Erik's struggle and depression broke my heart, and the whole time I was rooting for him to take steps towards getting better for his sake. These two men do not have an easy road at all and their happy ending is hard-won.. and deserved.

I liked the idea of second chance romance. This is a bittersweet story. Could've been better if I can feel the strong chemistry between the two main characters. But it's not. Something was amiss, I have no idea what that was.
I had to adjust with the writing style, but I think it's okay for awhile.
If you like this kind of story, this book is probably the one's you're looking for.

I thought that this story had an interesting premise, and I like the fact that it shows Erik dealing with his mental health problems. However, I felt like there was something missing between Kent and Erik. Their connection just didn't feel quite as strong as it could. Also, with Kent's dad, I wanted to know more about why he seemed angry. I think that with a little extra polish, this could have been a tighter story.

I really liked the reunited lovers premise of the book. Kent and Erik were together before Kent decided to go off to med school. After all his schooling is done, Kent comes home, but finds that Erik has been struggling over the past few years. There are a lot of hurdles to overcome but they do. I’m glad for this, because I wanted them to succeed as a couple. I was a little thrown off by the wishy washy attitude of both guys. Kent knows what he wants now, but he didn’t always. That’s fine, but then he’s saying he doesn’t understand why Erik would be upset with why/how he left. Frankly, he should be lucky Erik is even taking him back. Then with a Darrell, I couldn’t quite understand if he was annoyed they were together or what. It seemed weird. I also thought there were too many flashbacks at times. It was great to see they had a connection back in the day, but now is when they need all the help. I liked how Erik was dealing with his depression finally. I have hope (especially after the epilogue) that he is doing much better and is happy.

This is an interesting story and I wish I had enjoyed it more. It took me a while to get used to the author's writing style but the most difficult part for me is Kent. I really disliked him for most of the book because of his selfishness and utter disregard for Erik's feelings and precarious mental state. Erik struggles so much as he tries to deal with his mother's death and his inability to get over Kent after he left for medical school. He is amazing as he keeps trying to get better and with the help of his friends he never gives up on himself. Once Kent moves back to town he is determined to start over with Erik even though he was the one to end their previous relationship. Their complicated family situation and Kent's inability to stop pushing Erik for more causes a lot of angst. I like the secondary characters, especially Kent's dad as he does whatever he can to support Erik. Overall it was an okay read for me and I love Erik.

❤Lovefool❤

Where to begin. I absolutely loved the couple. The love they felt was there in the storytelling. Erik was hurting and grief does take a toll on your mental health. So I thought that came through. I wasn't 100% sure on the timeline, but I gathered a little over a year that they were apart. Hated Brandi from the start. Her character just seemed up to no good. Kent obviously loved Erik and thought he wanted to try dating other people. That's where it gets wonky. It says several times that Eric broke up with Kent but Kent wanted to see other people. See if what he felt for Erik was real. I get that, but it felt off. And I'd liked to seen more of their surrounding environment brought in. Like their jobs, but I had enough to get everything I needed for the story. Good Book. Check it out.

Lovefool is a fun romance by Ian Lewis.

Growing up, Kent and Eric dated, and even spent some time living together while their parents dated. But it's been years since they've seen each other.

As they meet up again, they are both still attracted to each other, and are both confused. In addition, Eric's still grieving the loss of his mom, and he's a complete mess. He's isolated himself and is terrified to open up his heart again. Eric's story will pull at your heartstrings.

As the two young men work their way back to each other, they have some complications to deal with, misunderstandings, and a crazy ex. But the whole time, you can just feel their connection and love for each other.

Lovefool is a sweet and romantic second chance love story. I definitely recommend this Ian Lewis novel for anyone who loves this trope. As for me, I will be looking out for more of Ian's books.

Brilliant I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

This was a brilliant book. A book of second chances. Kent and Eric are meant to be together. Kent leaves for med school thinking he needs to experience more then just being with one person so he leaves Eric behind.
Kent finally comes back after finishing school a doctor and to starting a job in his home area Richmond. His firsts thoughts back are Eric.
Eric's life has become stagnant to the point where his best friend and boss need to sit him and down and say hey, it's time for you to put yourself right.
This is where our journey with these two amazing and brilliant characters began.
This is an absolute must read and so is book two. I had to read this book immediately after I had read book 1 just to stay in this amazing group of people.

Lovefool will make you cry, laugh and cry some more.
Erik struggles with being left behind when Kent when to medical school and told Erik not to come with him.
Here we are 8 years later and Kent is returning home. These to men fall back into their relationship but with all the insecurities they have from the past 8 years apart. We see them have them some great moments which actually causes to laugh but we also have lots of moments when we just want to hug them and cry along with them in their pain. But as Darrell keeps telling Kent, let him come back to you.
It is truly an honor when an author like Ian can make you feel as if you are part of the characters lives and not just reading about them. I honestly can’t wait to see what more Ian has in store for us with his writing.

Swoon over Erik and Kent. From the first page you could feel their connection and love for each other

Erik will rip your heart out feeling he is always left by people and struggling with life.

Kent returns home and wants to pick right up with Erik because he realizes there was never ever anyone else for him.

Throw in a wonderful father that loves both guys and wants only what’s best for them both

Read the book to watch them realize how in love with each other they are and how they learn to navigate
Moving forward

This is my second book by this author and definitely look forward to future books

I found this to be be a mostly enjoyable story. I say mostly because sometimes Erik’s insecurities started to take on a life of their own and I was wondering if he really was going to therapy. I also wanted to shake some sense into Kent. He was a clear example of someone who is book smart but doesn’t have a lick of common sense. At least these two had good friends like Sneaky and Michael, as well as Kent’s dad Darrell, to knock some sense into them. And Brandi, really? You could see that drama coming a mile away. The epilogue was a nice wrap up for our two knuckleheads.
Oh, and please dear author, learn to use some euphamisms other than “manhood.”

My first book by this author and I enjoyed it a lot!

I just want to start by saying I felt sorry for both Erik and Kent.
They both were suffering, Erik more so, as he was dealing with breaking up with Kent, his mother passing and on the downward spiral of depression!

Kent and Erik are both still in love with each other, but when Kent returns back to their home town do they have a chance at rekindling their love?!

It’s such a heartbreaking but beautiful story of second chances, trusting in love, overcoming fear and insecurities and having hope for the future! ❤️❤️

This is a story of second chances, first love never fully overgrown and a voyage through the MCs insecurities and fears to overcome them.
At first I was mainly drawn by Kent, because it seemed to me that he was the more involved one, and the one fighting the most for their love. While reading, though, I emphasized more and more with Erik and Kent semeed quite selfish and almost dumb at some point (read, Darbi).
The narrative and the timing of the story is a bit confused at tmes, and I had to check who was the one speaking.
All in all though the story is enjoyable and nice to read.

Kent and Eric are each other's first love and sort of stepbrother, right up until Kent leaves for medical school. Eight years later, Kent is back in town to stay. Erik has had a very difficult year after loosing his mother and is shocked to see the only man he ever loved back. It turns out that Kent is still in love with Erik too.
I really enjoyed this second chance romance, it's not entirely plain sailing to rebuild their relationship it's obvious from the start that they still want to be together but insecurities threaten to get in the way.

A wonderful second chance story, So well written that you are rooting for the characters and wanting them to find their HEA. Sweet, poignant, gritty, steamy story of reconnecting with the love of your life and making that love work.

Kent and Erik have a lifetime of loving each other when they are apart, now can they find a way to have a relationship and trust each other?

This is an enjoyable and feel good read! .

i so want a story about Michael!

I love reading second chance stories. Ken and Erik were a couple all through college. Then Ken decided to end things and move on without Erik. Erik struggles with being left behind.

Years later when Ken returns they are given the chance to rekindle their love. Thinks don't come easy as both men try to deal with insecurities, emotions and trust.

Seeing them navigate back to each other is wonderful. I found this book to be sweet, sexy, emotional and enjoyable!

I love a second chance romance, and this one didn’t disappoint!

Kent and Erik are college sweethearts, but when Kent is accepted to medical school, he decides to leave Erik behind.

Erik losses himself..between losing Erik and watching his mother fight cancer, he finds himself in the holds of depression.

Eight years later, Kent is back home wanting to pick up his and Erik’s relationship where it left off.

Angsty, quick read that will leave to pining over Erik!
