Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas is book one in the Rocky Mountain Cowboys series by Katie Ruggle.

This was a great holiday read. We are taking to a small town in Colorado. I liked all the characters, the kids that play important roles, and the ranch.

Camille is quiet, withdrawn, and almost to hermit statues. I have a new understanding of awkward and embarrassed; because of her. She’s an artist and specializes in metals and sculpting. Watching her personality unfold was fun. Steve knew exactly how to support her in all the ways needed.

Steve is a single father coming back to town after the loss of his wife and is attempting to rebuild for himself and his four kids. His family is well knowen in the community. They operate a tree farm, gift shop, and he is trained as a firefighter. I really enjoyed how he interacted with his children, supported them when many parents would have damaged their spirits.

Besides the romance we get a nice plot with some interesting twists. I was surprised by the reveal on who was doing the bad things. Didn’t see that one coming. Even within the romance their are layers of people learning about themselves. The kids were the best part. I just love kids in my romance novels and if they are done correctly they can add a whole new depth to the relationships and world.

Steve and Camille’s romance was very sweet and a nice slow burn that allows the reader to saver everything that happens. Camille blooms over time and she interacts splendid with Steve’s children. All the characters are well developed and the secondary characters in this novel had many fun and enjoyable elements to them; from Ms. Lin the noisy neighbor who has good intention, but it just goes wrong too the other Springfield brothers; which I can’t wait to find out more about.

The whole story and romance followed nicely. I had a delightful time with this novel. It’s sweet, fun, and intense at times. This is my first taste of Katie Ruggle and she has me hooked on this series. I can’t wait for the next installment to come out. In the mean time I plan on checking out other books by this author.

I liked this a lot. You didn't figure out who was doing things until the end. I have liked Steve in previous stories from other series. I was glad to see him get his chance. His kids are a great addition to the whole thing as well. The pace is faster, but not breakneck, the tone is sweet and tense at times, the storyline is character and action oriented with vivid and well developed characters. I am interested to see where Katie Ruggle goes with this series. The next series sounds cool too based on the preview.

This totally got me in the Christmas mood! There were so many good things in this story!

Camille, the heroine is described as a socially awkward hermit who spends all of her time creating beautiful pieces of artwork out of metal. I really wish I could have seen some of these pieces in real life based off of the way they were described. I was fascinated by Camille.

Steve, the hero is a cowboy, volunteer fireman, a widower with 4 very smart kids and one of them also suffers with social anxiety. He works with his 3 brothers on their family ranch selling Christmas trees.

This background setting is what truly will put you into the Christmas mood. They use horses to take families out to the rows of trees to pick one for their home. The kids get to ride the horses while the horses pull the tree to the cars.

The kids in this were such a great addition to the story line. Will, the oldest boy is friendly, outgoing and always happy. Micah, is the youngest boy who suffers from social anxiety who also happens to be an artist. His interaction with Camille will make you want to cry! Then there is Zoe, the oldest girl. She's a genius with mechanics. There are few explosing from her experiments that will make you laugh. Then there is Maya, the youngest girl. She is just very loving and as adorable as you think a little girl would be.

The overall feeling of family is felt in almost every page. I love to read about socially awkward characters find that one person who accepts them for who they are. When you add in that person getting a full family when she only every had her Grandma, just gives me the warm and fuzzies!

This was very well written and I would love more from these characters. ARC provided by NetGalley.

Christmas, the time for miracles, magic and feel good reading! Katie Ruggle’s ROCKY MOUNTAIN COWBOY CHRISTMAS is all that and more as one eccentric hermit finds her heart burning brightly for a widowed firefighter and his wickedly amazing kids!

Do you like a read that gives you a little mystery along with the light-hearted moments? You’ll love the awkward flirting, the hit and miss kisses and the warmth of one very protective man who has found his second chance at a forever love right in his own backyard. In case you might think Steve isn’t so unique, meet his kids and marvel at who they are, and the support they receive from a man who is unsure of his parenting skills! Instant heartstring tugs there!

Camille is as quirky as she is socially inept, but together, these two are like a hand and glove!
Get that holiday romance reading line up going, and put this one at the top of the list!

Steve Springfield was a secondary character from Katie Ruggle’s previous series and he now has his own story. As a firefighter in the past two series, he’s moved back to his home town of Born, Colorado on the family ranch to escape the dangers that went down back in Monroe. Raising his four children as a single dad offers enough excitement without adding murder and mayhem to the mix. Back home, he and the family are very busy with their Christmas tree business and gift shop. The ranch sounded so very picturesque, making buying a Christmas tree a memorable experience, hauling the tree with horses and selling unique Christmas gifts in their shop.

Steve is still a firefighter, although a volunteer one now, and this is how he runs into the beautiful, but painfully shy Camille.

Camille had a mad crush on Steve while in high school. He was good-looking and popular, but also very kind. Even if Camille didn’t have anxiety interacting socially, she was three grades behind Steve and so they didn’t cross paths much back then. Now that he’s back in town and circumstances have thrown them together, Camille is falling hard for Steve and his kids. Steve is even more irresistible than he was in school, and his kids are unique and intelligent. Somehow with all her social awkwardness, she just clicks with them.

I loved Camille and Steve! Camille got so nervous around Steve and would just babble whatever came into her head. Words would just spill out of her mouth before she had time to edit, and I would just laugh! It was hilarious! She was sweet, awkward and endearing. Luckily, Steve wasn’t the type of guy to play games so Camille’s forthright admissions worked out well for them. Steve’s kids were fun, and I enjoyed seeing Camille get to know them and get close. She fit right in!

The fires in Borne added an edge of danger to the story, culminating in an action packed, thrilling conclusion. I was surprised to find out the identity of the culprit! Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas was a heartwarming, sweet romance, set in a beautiful Christmas Winter wonderland, but was also a suspenseful story that put me on the edge of my seat more than a few times. Loved the mix!

Reasons to grab your 🎧 and listen to Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas

I really enjoy Katie Ruggle's romantic suspense series and Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas is not only a holiday read, but the first novel in a brand new series. Family, friends and a wonderful setting quickly pulled me into this heartwarming story.
A single father of four who is also a firefighting cowboy. Come to momma!  A scare regarding the children had Steve Springfield moving his young family to his childhood home, a  Christmas Tree ranch in Borne, Colorado. Steve works the business with his three brothers and accepted a position with the local volunteer firefighters dept.  On his first call he encounters, Camille Brandt, a shy, socially awkward girl, well woman now, that he remembers from high school. She was three years younger than him, but memorable all the same.
Camille Brandt remembers Steve alright. While they never hung out, she had the worst crush on Steve freakin' Springfield. I loved their first encounter. Camille made me giggle and the way these two spoke warmed my heart, as I snuggled in to see what would happen.
Camille was a fun character. I easily identified with her reclusive nature. She is a bit of a nerd and a talented artist. When she would start babbling around Steve, adorable things would happen.
The romance or as my young friends like to say, "the ship" was wonderful, awkward, blush worthy and slow building with a touch of heat to curl your toes.
Secondary characters like the Springfield brothers and Steve's precocious children added humor, some sticky situations and helped pull the storyline together.
The suspense angle was more of a side thread, but powerful and suspenseful. It involved fire and plenty of danger as Camille finds herself the center of unwanted attention. Ruggle presented clues and to be honest I had a hunch but quickly dismissed it. Ruggled added a few twists and surprised me with this thread. I felt it was well done.
Fans of Ruggle will remember Steve from the Search & Rescue series but new fans can begin here. I love when Ruggle ties in previous series and characters.
Callie Beaulieu has narrated all of the Ruggle books I've listen to, so it was a surprise to see a new narrator for this series. This was my first time listening to narrator, Vanessa Daniels but I was pleased. She captured the characters and pacing making the transition smooth for me. I would listen to this narrator again, and hope she continues with this series.

Camille is a very interesting character she is very quiet and withdrawn from people almost to hermit status withdrawn. She is an artist that specializes in metals and sculpting. Finding her passion after a great personal loss allowed Camille to focus on new ideas and gave her a way to support herself. Watching her personality unfold throughout the story was fun. Steve knew exact how to support her in all the ways she needed.

Steve is returning to town after a tragic loss in his life and is attempting to rebuild his life, and the lives of his four children. His family is very well known in town and operates a tree farm and gift shop. Along with his family commitments he is trained in firefighting and rescued Camille when she needed it the most. I loved to watch how he interacted with his children, he supported them when many parents would have tampered their spirits.

Steve and Camille have a very sweet slow developing relationship that allows the readers to savor everything that happens. Camille is a shy character who we see blossom over time and she really engages well with all of Steves' children. The characters in Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas pulled in many other elements as well, Mrs. Lin is everybody’s nosy neighbor who has good intentions at heart but really bad follow through. Ryan…. I’m hoping will grow on me more, his first impression wasn’t a good one, I’m hoping to hear more about the Springfield brothers. The plot flows nicely along and is easy to follow, it would easily be a recommended book for any romance readers.

Widower Steve Springfield has recently moved back to his hometown of Borne with his 4 children. A firefighter for Borne, he is called on to search for a missing person. When he finds out who they are searching for it takes him back and he remembers the young shy artist.

Camille Brandt is horrified when she finds out people are searching for her as a missing person when she isn't and the attention that is about to come. She is also surprised that the person who finds her first is Steve Springfield her old childhood crush. Being shy and very social awkward she is flustered by all the attention.

When Camille finds herself in real actual trouble next time, Steve offers help and the feelings that have been circling around with become real as they spend time with each other. Unfortunately Camille is not out of the danger zone yet and many things kept trying to keep them apart.

Ok I really don't know how to rate this. This is my first real read by Katie Ruggle and this may be my last.

I loved the romance with the hero, heroine and the kids. It's much of the other things that I am not a fan of and in one instance really pissed me off.

The old next door neighbor pissed me off to no end. Her behavior may be seen as cute funny but I didn't think it was either. She was rude and pushy and nosy AF. She accused this girl who grandmother she was friends with of being a hoe, a madam and running a brothel and any other variation of this insult. The heroine just excuses this behavior and I couldn't get passed it. I don't usually mind the old busybody next door neighbor but here she couldn't get a pass with me.

Now I will be spoiling this so you might want to stop here:

The hero has three other brothers. The one called Joe so is pretty antisocial type. The there is the other two who Steve says were very competitive with him. Ryan is very competitive about women. Once he sees Steve has a interest in Camille he goes after her even though they have lived in the same time for years before Steve moved back. But just because he want to compete then he goes after her to the point of harassment and I don't say that lightly. He made her uncomfortable and even after she tells him point blank she isn't interested doesn't mean he doesn't still try and even cock block his brother for some BS. Does he finally get over it yes but he just killed any like for him with his behavior.

The other brother named Nate is one who always wants to be the hero and loves attention. You find out that He never faces any real consequence of his actions at all!!! The other brothers cover it up and he gets sent away with out facing the jail time at all. This is a huge problem for me because what does this show. That we will lie and cover up your actions just because and you get the mental illness excuse even though he knew what he was doing planned and set it up.

I am sorry but the fact that you do that and honestly if this brother gets a story I would be really pissed. And the face everyone makes it seem like oh it was stupid but...No it was criminal and if anyone else he would go to jail.

This and the neighbor really killed for me what would have been a really cute sweet Christmas story. I mean it's a Christmas story and the brothers drama killed the whole family vibe for me except the hero and his brother Joe. Oh I am just pissed and frustrated that all the good I could enjoy like I really wanted because of the BS. I may not do this author again.

So I really want to say 1.5 stars but will round up to two for the moments that were sweet.

Three and a half
I vaguely remember reading about Steve when the author wrote her stories set in Monroe, Colorado so it was with great anticipation that I cracked open this book. Let’s face it who doesn’t view firefighters as heroes and the author takes that idea and adds her own unique twist.
Camille is a loner and quite content to live by herself following her artistic dreams until one night a blast from the past ‘ apparently ‘ comes to her rescue. Steve remembers the sweet, quirky girl from school but his life has moved on over the years and now here he is back where he started but this time he’s very much a family man ! Yet no matter what fate somehow keeps throwing these two into each other’s orbit. So when the unthinkable happens and Camille needs a place to stay Steve and his family step up but Camille's problems are closer than she thinks !
This story set at Christmas is warm and just makes the reader feel good. The author excels at writing about kids that steal every scene they are in and you will find yourself smiling as you come to know more about the wonderful children that Steve struggles with everyday.
I think writing about characters that sneak into the readers hearts is why every book I’ve read by this author has held my attention so well. This time however somehow the overall plot and its villain just didn’t quite work for me. I loved the set up, the warmth that permeated so much of this book and it was very endearing but even with the often clunky slow burn romance I do feel the big reveal at the end lacked something. However if you want a sweet story with a festive feel then this book which works very well as a stand-alone is very entertaining.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

This was in the 4-5 star range until about 90% into the book. The romance is wonderful and both of them are introverted, thoughtful people.

The woman is so straightforward. She’s likely on the autism spectrum. She’s an interesting and charming character. He’s pretty cool too and is a great dad. Neither of them have been with others for a long time.

The kids were a magical touch and the way that the heroine connected with them even though she hates interacting with most people, was really special.

So, when the book went south in the most melodramatic way, I was so shocked. The mystery suspense side of this book and the resolution of it absolutely makes no sense! And ruined a lot of this book. I really don’t understand what happened with the author.

This was a really enjoyable book until it wasn’t. I suppose you could read this book knowing that the main characters are great… but that you’ll end the book going WTF! But still love the main characters.

The side characters (except for the kids) are a sh*t show. Including neighbors that accuse the heroine of running a brothel and creepy brother who wants to date the heroine because he’s competitive with the hero and the weirdest villain ever!

There were a lot of things I glossed over because I was having so much fun with this book. But the end just went so weird! And the villain gets off really easy. A bunch of things are swept under the rug and none of the suspense part of this book ends up making any sense. I’m actually a little afraid for the heroine’s future now.

That went weird.

Review copy was received from NetGalley. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

OMG. Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas is the best holiday book I've ever read. I have a new understanding of awkward and embarrassed or introvert. Also, these people have a proper appreciation for bacon.

The world is similar but not exactly the same as other romantic suspense by this author. It is set in a small Colorado town. The characters are so well developed. I feel as though I know them and love or avoid them accordingly.  The children and animals play important roles as well. I LOVE when they do.

The best thing is there IS a plot beyond the romance. Even within the romance, there are the layers of people learning about themselves, the couple and their family. The icing on the cake -  is it is hilarious.  Highly recommended.

I told Steve Springfield the story of my first period. There was no other option. Camille was going to have to move.

She gave them a little wave and then settled into her seat between Steve and Micah, who sat hunched forward, gripping his program a little too tightly. Leaning into him, she murmured, "How much do you want to run out of here right now?"

He sent her a sideways look before refocusing on his crumpled program. "A lot."

"I thought about sitting out in the truck for the whole thing, but I figured I'd get pretty cold out there for an hour."

He snorted and tilted the program so she could see the list of performances... the long list. "Two."

"Two... hours?" Why couldn't she be in the shop, alone, working on Steve's Christmas present right now?

"Yep. Sometimes longer." He looked slightly less hunched, and one corner of his mouth had turned up. Camille was glad her misery had made him feel better. "I've been to lots of these."

"Do they at least have cookies at intermission?"

I love me a Christmas and Cowboy book. I love theme books, I love holiday theme books, I love holiday theme audio books. I love single daddies!

I believe this book could fit you if you are in the mood for it.

Vanessa Daniels has a mature voice. So she fit the Heroine in this book. I imagined a mid-thirties kind of gal. I prefer a higher pitch voice, but she didn’t hinder my listening experience. She just sounded seasoned if you know what I mean.

I love slow burn books in audio format, but I found this book REALLYREALLY REALLY REALLY slow.

The beginning started out cute. I mean, Camille was the awkward teenager and it’s years later, she’s back in town. I like how awkward Camille was, I found her rambling endearing and really cute. I like how she interacted with Steve.

The author does a lot of character development, sometimes I found it a bit much because a lot of scenes just seem to drag on, but I get it, she wants to set the tone of the event.

Steve is an okay Hero. I mean, the cover model is lickable right? He has several kids (not all of his biologically, that’s cute) and he’s a hardworking cowboy. He’s just a straight up good guy and that’s alright, but I didn’t find him memorable.

So the story is mainly about Camille and Steve and there’s a secondary storyline of someone causing trouble with Camille, we just don’t know who or why.

I think I would have enjoyed this book more had the pace speed up a bit towards the middle / end. I found the mystery storyline of the fires kind of falling flat. There wasn’t enough suspense to make it a suspenseful book. I felt like it should have been an all or nothing kind of plot.

I think the feud between Steve and Ryan was kind of cute, it just didn’t last long.

Overall, it’s a sugary sweet read. It’s kind of slow but filled with holiday cheer. I think if you are in the mood for chick-lit and wholesome fun then this book is for you.

Steve has returned to his hometown with his 4 kids. He goes to work on his family’s farm, volunteering as a firefighter/search and rescue team member. He gets called out to help find a girl he remembers from high school. Turns out she’s not lost but looking for scrap metal for her art.

Camille is the town oddball, hermit, eccentric artist. She lives in the house she grew up in. Her grandmother raised her and left her the house when she passed. Camille rarely ventures out in public, disliking small talk or gossip, going to town at weird times to decrease the likelihood of running into people. Camille is sweet, socially inept and a great metal artist.

When Steve “finds” her, she is reminded of her crush on him in high school. He remembers the cute girl he “saved” in high school. The romance was odd, a bit stilted and slow going.

The author, IMHO, worked way too hard at casting aspersions on the wrong person. The obviousness of it all telling you that it wasn’t the perpetrator. It didn’t take long for me to start rolling my eyes every time an insinuation was made.

I liked Steve’s kids and their interactions with Camille. The over the top, annoying neighbor was ridiculous and served one purpose that could have been handled much better and not been so irritating.

SPOILERS AHEAD
I don’t like to do spoilers, but there isn’t a way to address the following without them.

The villain wreaks the havoc he does because he is mentally ill. His brothers cover up his crimes so he doesn’t go to jail, and send him off for “therapy”. Are you freaking kidding me?! And Camille is ok with it?

This is the second book in a row that I have had multiple issues with from this author. It may be time to take a break.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher.

"Steve-Freakin'-Springfield!" Camille awkwardly calls her high school crush to his face. I feel the same. A single-dad firefighter cowboy... be still my heart, right? Oh yeah, I'm right. Another adorable, humorous, slightly spicy slow burn romance in the crisp winter of Colorado mountain country.

Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas is the beginning of a new series. However, if you are a person who prefers to read from the beginning if there is even a slight connection to previous books then let me give you the down lo. Start with the four Search & Rescue books where Steve was introduced and then progress through the four K-9 Unit books where he was also a side character. And, then, here you are ready to see where Steve went to get his own story.

And, quite the story it was. Steve, a widower of several years and single dad of four precocious kids, left his two previous towns as a firefighter because of the danger to his kids (see previous series to know Steve is not exaggerating the danger). He decided to come back to his hometown of Borne and the family ranch which he and his three brothers are running as a Christmas Tree ranch during the season for the extra money. He takes up as a volunteer firefighter and one of the first people he encounters outside of home and work is Camille Brandt whom he always thought was nice and pretty.

Camille has always been awkward and shy, artistic and something of a geek. Social disaster does not even cover it. The only person more reclusive is Joe Springfield the brother to her unrequited high school crush. Steve is the epitome of perfect in her eyes from his kindness back in high school to his heroic gestures and swoony dad moves with his kids. Camille is used to hiding in her workshop making amazing metalwork art out of junk, but now she is distracted and wanting a bit of the down home country Christmas charm she sees out at the ranch with Steve and the kids. When her house burns down and she doesn't want to stay with the old gossip across the street, Camille finally gets her chance.

Holiday romances bring out the nostalgia in me and I am open to lots of sweetness, charm and holiday setting. Christmas in the mountains on a Christmas tree ranch hits the spot. It didn't hurt that there is a wonderful quirky family and an even more awkward and quirky heroine. This book took its time over fun little activities and growing pain moments with the kids, holiday family times, and a romance that has to wrap around work, chores, kids, and a fire. Steve and Camille were adorkable together and I loved how the author didn't ignore his widower raising a family, but also didn't make it a dwelling point, either. The slow build of attraction and easing into a physical relationship after the friendship was just right.

I was a little thrown off over the minor suspense element, but not necessarily in a bad way. It was one of those where I had my suspicions, but thought I was really reaching until no, I was right. Makes me really curious about what will be next in the series because there was a family dynamic among Steve and his brothers that was touched on, but I'd like to see developed now that this first story is complete.

So, another engaging story from Katie Ruggle and a great start to a new series. Those who enjoy their country cowboy family-style Christmas and slow burn romance should definitely reach for this one.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was cute and although awkward at times, it didn't make me uncomfortable reading it.
I listened to the audio and the reader, Vanessa Daniels, was perfect.

Steve and Camille remember each other from High School but never really knew each other back then because of 3 years age difference. He had thought she was cute but too young and she never had the courage to approach him. In fact she is so socially awkward that she is practically a hermit.
But she is also a respected metal artist who sells her work online. Steve is a firefighter with 3 bachelor brothers.

When Steve returns to town to find a safe place to raise his 4 kids, he finds that his attraction to her is even stronger than when they were in school.
For those, like me, who worry about Camille being second best to a man who loved his wife so much he had 4 kids with her... I didn't find she was second best and the author manages not to turn his first wife into second best or evil to do it.

He's kind of a straight laced guy but around Camille he smiles more and it's pretty obvious to everyone that he's 'sweet on her'. Camille is awkward around him and tends to get verbal diarrhea. I liked that they were always honest with each other.

The kids are a big part of the story and were pretty entertaining if unbelievable. A bunch of little geniuses.

The story was great for the first 25% and then a creepy stalker acts as a catalyst to bringing the MCs together faster.

I'm not sure how to rate this one.
I enjoyed the heck out of it right up until the ending...
I'm not sure about the 'justice' served. I can't really talk about it without totally spoiling the ending. So here is my gripe and a partial spoiler
This is my first time reading this author and I plan to read more!

DNF Chapter Whatever.

I wasn't 100% sure about this book. The blurb mentions shy and inexperienced Heroine and a Hero with marriage experience and children. I hate this uneven balance between main characters. But I tried it, because I really liked Katie Ruggle's series "Search and Rescue".

And I should've stayed far away from this book. My irritation rose as I read more pages.

I hated the brother of the Hero. He was creepy! Trying to seduce the Heroine (whom he knew all his life) only because his brother was "competition". He was sleazy and behaved very inappropriate. Cornering the Heroine, trying to force her to go to dinner and always invading her personal space. Heroine didn't want any of it. But she didn't have the backbone to tell him to take a hike and to never come back! She felt unsafe around him and didn't open her mouth! Hero also saw this but instead of helping the Heroine he just hoped that his brother got his first "dismissal" from a woman. Wow.

I hated the neighbor (noisy and old) from the Heroine. She accuses her of having a brothel in her home! And what does our strong Heroine do? Nothing. Letting this old bat into her home and listening to her insults. Always being nice and not telling no. I don't have the patience for this.

Last I couldn't really grasp the concept of the Hero being a single father of 4 (?). All children were talented and really mature and so grown up (at 11 and 13 years old) and everyone behaved so clearly that it felt staged and unnatural.

So that's it. Can't stand the book and it's promise. Glad it's over.

Rocky Mountains are supposed to be idyllic and peaceful, which is exactly what Steve planned when he moved his four children from the chaos of their home town. A Christmas tree ranch and shop is the perfect place for them to grown up. Settled in as a fire fighter in town, Steve runs into Camille when she needs "rescued". Except his version of a rescue is her version of hell. Camille loves her solitude and doesn't handle being the center of attention well. Sparking his interest, Steve sees Camille in a new light and can't fight his attraction to her. But when her life is put in danger he's determined to keep her close.

Camille has been quite happy in her solitude and is thrown for a loop when Steve Springfield is back in town. Downsides to being a hermit is not knowing when your high-school crush moves back in to town. And running in to him in the most embarrassing situation...over and over again. The final straw: a fire burns down her home, with her in it and Steve comes to the rescue. Now in his home and around his kids, she may finally be finding her people and a way to be happy around others. If it wasn't for the other fires that keep threatening her, she could just be happy.

Ruggle has the ability to write action and suspense romance weaved perfectly together. But I will warn readers that this romance, is a slooooow burn that is worth the wait. Steve and Camille's chemistry is instant and incredibly charming. Steve takes all of Camille's "quirks" in stride and his children help win her over. I honestly loved Camille's interactions with each of Steve's kids, each one manages to pull a new side of her out making me love her more. And just when you think that HEA is on its way, prepare for a big twist you just can't predict.

This is a start to a new series, but Steve was mentioned in the previous ones since he is a firefighter. But he left that town and went back to his family's ranch with his 4 kids. And let the new series begin.

Steve was a great guy. A good dad. And yes a cowboy, and you know that is my weakness in romance.

His love interest is Camille. The local hermit who never interacts with people if not necessary. She is an artist and she is absolutely adorkable! I adored her. She was awkward, but funny. Shy, but talked too much. She was perfect and I liked how Steve looked past all that and saw her. Awww omg the feels guys, the feeeeeels!

So obviously these two were adorable together. I loved how they interacted and tried to flirt and it made me lol so much. He was perfect for her, and she was perfect for his whole family.

There is a bit of suspense, but not that much to be honest. It is more at the end. There are fires, and if you want to know why and be spoiled then read the spoiler. But I warn you, it is a real spoiler cos I have to discuss some things. Trust me, do not read it!

But the suspense part was so good, it gave me chills and I can not tell you why, but yes creepy.

It was a great book. I loved seeing them together (how many times have I said that now?). His family were adorable too! And omg, if his brother Joe gets a book, that might just give me the feels too!

The feeeels!
Do listen to it

I enjoyed all of the author's Rocky Mountain K9 series, so I was really looking forward to reading this book. I loved the CO mountain setting, and the fact that Steve is a volunteer firefighter, a caring and competent single dad, and an all-around great guy. Camille, although having serious hermit tendencies and social anxiety was also no pushover, and managed her life quite competently. I thought they made a great couple and it was so much fun to see her come out of her shell around Steve and his kids.

So, why only 2 stars? I was happily reading, up to about the 95% mark, when an incident happened that destroyed all of my previous enjoyment of the book. It doesn't appear to have bothered other readers so YMMV. In spite of this, I'm still planning to read the next book and will hope that I can enjoy 100% of it.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.

Steve is a spin-off character from the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit Series where he was a minor, supporting character. In his book, the first in this series, we get to know Steve, his four children and his three brothers. What a family! I loved the book which is a sweet romance with a touch of mystery/suspense. The characters are wonderful and eccentric, as only as only small towns and tight knit families can create.

Camille Brandt, a quirky folk artist, is just a brilliant portrait of a small town, eccentric artist. She longs for the bright lights of Denver, but has difficulty with personal interactions with people she has known for most of her life. She knew and worshiped Steve from afar in high school and his return to Borne, CO has only revived that crush and his kids have stolen a piece of her heart too.

Firefighter Steve Springfield has returned to his hometown of Borne, CO seeking safety and a refuge for his four children. He has been widowed and raising the kids alone for close to nine years and as they are growing up the job is just getting harder. Coming home he has the built in support of his brothers and the ranch. When he encounters Camille, he remembers the shy, awkward girl from high school and is amazed at the beautiful, but still shy, woman she has become. Steve has his hands full fighting the mysterious fires that are breaking out in the normally peaceful town and someone appears to be stalking Camille.

A practically perfect Christmas romance with a hermit, a firefighter, bad flirting, a cranky cat, wickedly smart kids, Christmas trees, and oh yes, a nasty stalker. I've been waiting ages for fireman Steve to get his story and Katie Ruggle did not disappoint.

As a proudly cranky introvert, I loved that not only was Camille shy and awkward, so was "Steve-freaking-Springfield"! Steve and Camille's mutually awkward and sweet crush was simply adorable. Even his kids noticed the two had no game. One of Steve's brothers even comments:
"I’ve never seen two people so bad at flirting. It was painful to watch. And here I thought Steve was good at everything.”
Also, I have to say that I absolutely loved Steve's kids. As much as I love Katie Ruggle's series with hot search and rescuers and hot K9 officers, I would totally sign up for a young adult series with Steve's kids testing their inventions, hot-wiring cars, eating bacon and wreaking havoc. The family bonds were some of the best moments in the book. Every word of the family "bacon is love" scene was pure gold.

However, I was seriously surprised and icked by the bad guy's identity. I can only put my faith in the author that any future books will find Camille, Steve, and the kids living good, bacon-filled lives free from danger.

4.5 stars

I thought this was going to be a cheesy Hallmark channel plot about childhood friends reconnecting during Christmas. Jokes on me, totally my fault that the B-plot thriller caught me by surprise.

Honestly, I thought this would be a four part series about the brothers’ romances so the resolution of this novel left me disappointed. Nevertheless, the writing was solid despite the pretty crap title 🤣.

Combine a single dad, a small town, 4 adorable kids, and an awkward artist and you have Rocky Mountain Christmas Cowboy! Steve is back in his small home town of Born and working on his family's Christmas tree farm. He is a widow with 4 kids and is settling into life back home with his brothers. Camille is the town hermit. She is social awkward and quirky. I loved her! There were times her uncomfortableness in social situations was so relatable! And I totally agree with her-if you can find a way to do things that don't involve interacting with people, you are winning!

Steve's kids are great! They are older (like 10-16 year olds) and have such fun personalities. I loved seeing Camille interact with them because she connected so well to them. Steve's brothers are interesting as well. Ryan is a major flirt and really confuses Camille. Overall, I loved all these characters! All of them create such a fun story that I was sucked in right away. I forget how much I adore Ruggle's characters. She writes such wonderful people.

The setting will put you in the holiday mood for sure! Steve's family's farm is a Christmas Tree farm that uses horses to pull the trees! There is a small subplot of mystery regarding fires in town, but the focus is on the characters. Seriously, Ruggle can do no wrong in my book!

Vanessa Daniels is a new to me narrator and she did a wonderful job! I really enjoyed her performance and am looking forward to more books narrated by her!

I've veered off on a Katie Ruggle tangent with her K9 series and now this spin-off Rocky Mountain Cowboys series. It's sweet and cute. I've been saying that about a lot of books lately, so I'm definitely in a sweet and cute rut. Steve, a fireman and widower, has moved back to his hometown with his 4 children to be close to his sequel bate brothers, Joe, Nate, and Ryan. He encounters a girl from his past and sparks fly, literally as there are several fires which throw the two together. I loved the family dynamics, and the mystery is OK as a background plot. The romance is nice in a realistic way, but I felt it got overshadowed by the family interaction (my favorite parts of the book but when the main characters spend more time separately with the kids than together...) - explains my 3 star review. It happens way too fast and needed significantly more development for full buy in. The ending was...well...I can honestly say I didn't at all see it coming. At all. I like a good twist, but not sure this one worked. I like the brave choice in the writing, though. Ruggle's books are great fun, and a good escape read. You do not need to read the K9 series before reading this one.

I continue to read these books while not having a good time. Yet they're so readable.

Firefighter from the Search & Rescue series gets a HEA with childhood friend. Single dad widow, ton of kids, horses, fires, socially awkward artist, small town.

Small town vibes were good, plot of fire after fire was meh, awkward leads and kids butting into everything was fun.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH NET GALLEY. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

Having read several of this author's works before, I had weathered a lot of ups and downs with her various series, but have enjoyed them on the whole and have become a fan of her work. Imagine my surprise when this one changed the dynamic again and made me enjoy her work even more!

I loved Steve and his family, both his kids and his brothers! I loved the camaraderie and love that they all plainly shared. I really wanted to see more of the brothers' stories, and then the twist came! Now, I really want follow up with the brothers! I also found it very easy to connect with Camille. Every scene with her shyness and awkwardness showcased really had me feeling for her! I was so glad that she connected with Steve and allowed herself to fall for him and his children!

I loved the slow burn of the romance between Steve and Camille, and felt it fit just right for the season and events of the book, not to mention the characters themselves. On the whole, the book just worked for me, and I can't wait to see more in the series!

Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas (Rocky Mountain Cowboys #1) by Katie Ruggle
4 stars
M/F Romance with a little thriller
Triggers: Stalking
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Steven is a widower and he has several kids in tow. When he decides to move back to his home town, he moves back to his tree farm and his three brothers. The kids that he's raising are hilarious and curious, shy and intelligent. I loved that the kids played such a major role in this story. Steven's brothers were somewhat under developed in the story for the large role they played. You were kept guessing about what was going to happen next, for sure, but I also felt slightly lost since they were not really the main characters.

Then you have Camille. She is the quirky resident artist. Despite being kind of a shut in, she does venture out every once in a while. She also has a hilarious, too nosy neighbor. When she sees that Steven is back in town, despite the town gossip and years of people saying that the other brothers were better looking, etc., she can't help but feel like a 12 year old again.

Steven and Camille are a great couple. They don't have much in common, but their ability to dance around each other was definitely an art in this story. While at times, I wished they behaved less YA and more adult romance, this was a sweet story and the kids were just icing on a really great story. I am excited to see what everyone gets up to next.
