About the author

I am a creative coach, author and speaker. My job is to provide clarity, perspective and support to creative professionals so that they can thrive and create wonderful things.

Most of what I know of life and the world comes from consuming the arts in some way, whether through books, films, art, music, theatre. I use my skills to support creative people who make us see the world in another way. I have worked with English National Opera, Cameron Mackintosh, Siobhan Davies Dance, Society of West End Theatre, Chester Gateway Theatre, Oxford Concert Party, Chester Literature Festival, Studio Voltaire. I set up Catching Fireworks® in January 2009 to coach creative people from all over the UK, Europe, USA and Asia.

I understand the thrills and frustrations of the creative process. One day you are brimming with ideas and can barely keep up with yourself. Then suddenly, you hit a moment where despite all skills and techniques, inspiration, like Elvis, has left the building. As well as my writing, I dance the Argentine Tango, an improvised dance which enhances and contributes to my coaching style.

This book is a must read for every artist. It's not just platitudes. It's not just top-tips. It's solid information by a coach who knows her stuff. Every artist hits the wall. Every artist feels lost and gets stuck. This book is great resource to help you get past those blocks that stop you.

Daawww … but for me, even the title smarts [*ouch* I feel personally attacked right now.]
She works through some common fears, and give some good advice.
Believe in yourself and keep true to your artistic practice because it is your authentic self. You know how the act of creation contributes to your mental and emotional wellbeing. Don’t stop because you think it is selfish - it is taking care of yourself: would you stop wearing a plaster cast for a broken leg?

But of course, like everything, then you have to do it.

Amazing book

There comes a point in life where you have too take the next steps in your art practice to create a career that can both sustain you and entertain you. The tools in this book are manageable and make a lot of sense, giving myself everything I need to do to have a positive career or at least a positive experience.
The end result is work smarter not harder and break down everything into manageable chunks.
