The civil-war-ravaged streets of Terra Primus are a hazardous place for a sixteen-year-old, but Joel is determined to make it to Arcadia to reconnect with his father’s legacy. Starving, injured, and hunted by his father’s nemesis—a striker scout—Joel makes an unlikely friend in a magnificent Canine Maximus. Learning to trust and rely on each other’s loyalty and strength, they must navigate a world of ruin and treachery where every turn could mean capture by the Union police. What follows is an epic journey of survival, betrayal, mateship, and love.
Chris Turner is an Australian science fiction author who writes about what it means to stay human in a changing world. His stories begin with empathy and connection, grow through adventure and discovery, and find their grounding in believable science and technology.
After decades designing mining infrastructure around the world, he developed a fascination with underground places — quiet, enduring spaces that test resilience and reveal character. That fascination runs through much of his work. Chris also built his own electric catamaran, which later appeared in The Hunt for the Butcher of Blackrock, book four of the MOSAR series.
His love of science fiction began with Arthur C. Clarke, Stargate, and SG-1 — where science and mythology meet possibility. That spark led to Delusions of Anubis, a psychological exploration of identity, immortality, and the blurred line between belief and reality.
Loved the story. Fast paced, plenty of action and suspense. A great ending - the one I hoped for and would have included if I wrote it. Thoroughly enjoyable.
You follow a young man trying to find his way to the place that his father told him about when the young man was a child. I just think it reminds me of the older science fiction that I read many years ago. Authors like Gordon R Dickson, James Schmitz few books before his untimely death. Robert Heinlein and countless others others to numerous to mention in my review is how the plot and characters are described by the this author that wrote this book. The ending to me indicates a potential series on the characters, which would be nice. So I hope there are many more books to come of this storyline. Hugs from the old 🐾🐾🐺🐾🐾!
This is one of the best books l have read. I cannot wait to get the next book in this series. I couldn't put this book down once l started reading it. The suspense and excitement in this book is awesome. I would recommend this story to anyone that enjoys adventure stories of this type. Once you start reading you quickly become hooked.
I couldnt stop reading it, well as far as here at least to here had to pick my other reader to cont the rest of the book. I uhmm *cough* threw the other one waking up my husband. Good.
"Canine Maximus Max" is a deceptively simple book about a teenager, 16, and his giant dog travelling to a better place. Joel and Max travel across the war torn urban and rural landscapes of Terra Primus in search of Arcadia. Always behind them is a hunter/scout representing the Union forces - his intent is to draft Max into the armed forces, or failing that kill him. But the tenacity of his pursuit hints at something more. Along the way they encounter violence, receive help from, and are betrayed by, strangers. It's an interesting book but would have been better had it expanded its horizons or tested a few boundaries. I really wanted it to be better than it is because it has all the elements of a classic. Even so it is a solid 3 Stars.
I enjoyed the story although i felt the book was a bit short. I liked the characters i felt that a little more backstory and fleshing out of the main characters would have improved this book. But that being said I really liked the book and have already preordered the next one!
A story about one boy's determination and his faithful canine companion. The duo embark (pun intended) on a journey across a continent on some far off planet whose people suffer from civil war. They are in search of a safe space that they can call home.
After reading the description of the second one, I expect it will be more exciting and so can't wait to read it!
I was unsure about this book but took a chance. I enjoyed it a good bit and will be getting the next book immediately on completion of this review. Its a YA book with elements of romance. Its a story of survival and love in a harsh land recovering from an apocalyptic event[s]. Its also rather savage in places.
The storyline rambles along, detailing life from day-to-day, without any apparent direction or motivation. No character development, no plot development, nothing to hold this rambling narrative together.
This was not what I expected at all. Once again I am glad for kindle unlimited because I would have been quite mad at myself if I had bought this book.
A boy travelling in a war ravaged world trying to seek a haven. Join his journey evading the fighting factions and escaping the soldier you seems to have a personal vendetta
