"She's my breath of fresh air. I won't stop fighting for her. Fighting for us. I can't." - Caden LarsonAt the end of Fighting For Air, the fragile life Aubrey Pierce was starting to build fell apart. Unsure of what's true and what's a well spun lie, Aubrey beings shutting down and pushing everyone away. When she finally begins to let people in again, Caden Larson realizes he's not on the exclusive list. This time around, earning Aubrey's trust seems impossible. He doesn't care. With every opportunity, he reminds her of one thing; he's never giving up on them. Through multiple arguments, drunken confessions, steamy sex, and a lot of pain, Caden and Aubrey try to find love and happiness again; both by themselves and together. Caden steps back in the ring, allowing himself to fight again. Aubrey steps in the direction of healing, allowing herself to hope again. Nothing is as easy as it seems, though. Not when a sociopath is involved. As Elliot Jameson grows in confidence, his obsessive love for Aubrey drives everyone's lives into chaos. Aubrey and Caden find themselves facing more than just the question of whether or not their love will survive. With Elliot lurking behind every corner, the question of survival becomes one of life and death. Will they win against Elliot? If they do, will things between them be shattered to the point of no return? It takes a whirlwind of emotion to find out.
I should have trusted my gut. After book #1, I had a feeling that I didn’t like Aubrey. I think I was too distracted by the over detailed writing to realize it fully.
It is hard to empathize or sympathize with her when she entertained being in love with Elliot. “Her body” kept reacting to him. Her body should have had her run far away. And then, poor Caden!!! My heart broke for him throughout the whole book. She constantly played mind games with him. “I love you but can’t be with you… but please hold me and let’s have sex oh and speaking of which, I just had sex with my abusive ex. And I also went on a date and kissed him in front of you.” what the hell is that!? Poor Caden!
As far as romance goes…. This was bad. Really bad. Like I said above, she was a head case and a tease, constantly playing mind games despite Caden being nothing but caring and patient and he never did anything wrong worth breaking up! I didn’t blame him for being with other women…. But when reading a romance, it just gave me a pit in my stomach rather than warm fuzzy feelings.
So many errors again. This book, like the first, desperately needed an editor. Ugh. However, this duet kept me engaged and entertained. The author really needs to let the chapters breathe instead of rushing through but the basis of the story is excellent. I hated almost everything decision the author made though. Although I could see why some of them were necessary others didn't fit the characters ir were just unnecessary. It was obvious in the first book that Aubrey was still in love with Elliott even after everything he put her through so I expected her to go back to him. I get why that happened even though it's infuriating. The thing that was unnecessary is her finally getting herself together and then immediately hooking up with the new guy at the gym and rubbing it in Caden's face and acting like he's in the wrong by being upset. The direction the author took Caden this book was the biggest disappointment. He's responsible for his 2 sisters but leaves them home alone every night to go get hammered. I really wanted him to man up and take responsibility for those girls and show Aubrey that he was a man worth choosing but he never did. He wallowed in self pity and showed her over and over again how weak he was and that she was right for not choosing him. I was a bit let down by their eventual reconciliation. After all the angst of these 2 books and everything they did to each other i wanted that moment to be epic but it was incredibly simple and uninteresting. I was very happy that it was ultimately Aubrey who settled the issue with Elliott. I loved that she didn't need Caden to save her. Lastly, I wish authors would give us at least a couple chapters of these characters after the climax. Let us see them be happy. We've earned it. Unfortunately, in this book we just get a brief epilogue that felt rushed
I will admit... this book got me hooked and I read it from beginning to end. However, it went on and on. I understand that Aubrey was hurting and mentally not of sound of mind. Caden just took it. All the hurt they caused each other back and forth. She even went back to her ex and cheated on him, and Caeden still wanted her back. It seemed like what she went through with Elliot was what she eventually started to do to Caden, minus the physical abuse. She strung him along because she knew he wouldn't leave her. Therefore, when he started pushing back and didn't take her back when she was ready to be with him... I was actually kind of proud of Caden for standing his ground, even though he was miserable the whole time.
I will say this book does make you understand the consequences of abuse. It isn't just the physical abuse that hurts... it is the verbal manipulation that is scary too. Aubrey's fear of her ex was surmountable, but she also would go back to him to self-destruct. There was a lot of feeling in this book. A lot of sadness. But the characters came out of it in the end happy and trying to heal.
DNF! I only read to chapter 9 🤷🏻♀️ This book didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, what I read up to seems so confusing, all over the place and I just couldn’t follow the story properly. From the ending to the first book to this, I was so confused with what was happening, I just can’t I’m sorry! I’m not sure what happened but it seems the author went way off track and just left me feeling blah 🥺
This book was rush. It told instead of show all the parts except the conflict. Aubrey’s continued denial/refusal was irritating, and just for drama and to add length to the book. The, of course, the second she is ready, he isn’t. Seriously, needless. Then she just glosses over all the good stuff, their time happy and together. Yeah…meh
I enjoyed reading the series , the 2nd story seemed a bit rushed but it was still good. This story is all about survival and being strong against abusers. Being one many years ago but finding my own freedom this story touched my heart in many ways.
Aubrey s "REALLY A DUMB ASS", if she gets beat up again I won't feel sorry for her, not even a little bit.I'm only on page 45 and am trying really hard to finish this only because I like Caden a lot.
I tried, I really tried. I got up to page 93 and just can't take Aubrey anymore, I'm done.
On to another author hope the next book is fantastic!
Duet review - Aubrey and Caden are both fighters. She’s trying to escape her abusive ex. They’re both pretty terrible to each other and there’s a lot of back and forth.

I gave this 5 stars because I loved the storyline. Since I've started listening to more audiobooks (I read not listened to this series) I have learned to grade by the story not the editing. If I were to grade this book by editing, it would get a 2.
