You were made for more. You were created for freedom. Freedom from the hurts of the past. Freedom from physical issues. Freedom from emotional wounds and traumas of the past...Freedom to be who you were created to be.The word “redemption” is tossed around in church circles a lot. Problem is, a lot of times we don’t know what it means. I mean, we read that Jesus redeems us, that He is our Redeemer, but… how do you make that practical instead of abstract? In seminary, I learned about the concept of “The Law of First Mention.” It means to understand a concept that appears later in the Bible, go back and evaluate how it was used first. Then, start building your understanding from there. When we look back at “redemption,” we see that the word relates to the story of Exodus. That is, redemption means “freedom.” Jesus is the One who sets us free. More than that, though, we learn WHAT that freedom LOOKS LIKE by looking at what happened to the people who were redeemed from slavery in Egypt… It involved instant healing- there were "none feeble" among them.It involved abundance and provision- radical enough for people who owned nothing to build a golden calf and a Tabernacle in the middle of the wilderness. It involved overcoming the stigma of the past... leaving the trauma of shame behind...It involved purpose... and the pursuit of the Promised Land that had been offered their ancestors for centuries...Their redemption was all- encompassing, and it was meant to be experienced now. And, if the New Covenant has better promises than the Old, shouldn't our experience now at least match theirs- if not exceed it? Welcome to freedom... the life you're meant to live.
