Not Just Royals #2

Three Times A Lady

Rate this book
The horrors Lord Haile Buchanan witnessed while serving in the British Army left scars branded into his soul. Survival dictates relegating those harrowing memories to the past. These days, he lives a quiet life running his Northumberland pub with few people knowing his title or his past. It’s more than enough excitement to keep him occupied and out of trouble—until he glimpses the stunning beauty sobbing beneath the awning of Hope Center. Common sense demands she’s not his burden to bear. Honor and decency refuses to let him walk away. Marisol Elliot can’t believe she uprooted her life back in the US only to be ruthlessly duped by a despicable catfisher. Now she’s stranded in a foreign country with nothing—and no one to help her. The last thing she expects is the gorgeous, ginger-haired stranger who rushes to her aide like a gallant knight in shining armor. When he offers her a strong shoulder to cry on and a hot meal at his pub, she gratefully accepts. And then when he offers her a job? It seems too good to be true. After all she’s been through, it’s hard to trust again. But something about Haile beckons to her like an irresistible beacon. Having Marisol in his employ is a far bigger boon than Haile ever expected. She’s a damn good bar manager and he’s lucky to have her. The one drawback? Being around her is stirring emotions he never expected to feel. Their chemistry is explosive and getting harder and harder to deny—for both of them. Just as the walls around their hearts begin to crumble, Mari’s past and a dangerous enemy threaten to destroy everything. Protecting her is Haile’s only mission—even if it means summoning his own past demons.

3.0⭐️ This is a short, engaging story. It involves Marisol, a black woman, who is running from an abusive relationship in Texas, and is lured to Northumberland, UK under false pretenses by a man she met online. She finds herself stranded in this small community, where everything is shut down by the time she arrives and, she doesn’t know where to go. Fortunately, she is rescued and, Marisol begins her life anew in Northumberland with the help of others there. Of course, as is often the case, things don't go quite as well as she plans or expects.

Although the plot is intriguing and the sexual content is very steamy, I was slightly surprised and more than mildly disappointed that Marisol's race was never really mentioned in the book. My question: WHY WAS IT NOT? It just seems unrealistic to me, given this foreign country where she found herself stranded (although I’m aware other readers' opinions might differ in this regard).

What is the reason I only gave this book 3.0⭐️? It boils down to one thing; this short story is fraught with so many editing problems, that it practically ruined the book for me. Had I known the editing was so egregious, I would not have finished reading the story. As a matter of fact, I highlighted certain errors which could have been easily corrected simply by eyeballing the sentence(s). One just needs to know how to read what has been written. Spell-checking will not correct syntax, or sentence structure or . . . .

In conclusion, failure to acknowledge Marisol’s race actually detracted from the story, in my opinion. Further, the complete lack of editing is unacceptable. *content edit only 9/2022

Marisol or Mari is a Texas girl who fled an abusive ex only to end up stranded when she is catfished. Haile rescues her nearly drowned self and well, the love story begins. Unfortunately Haile has dark secrets that haunt him and once revealed are truly heartbreaking. This story has a darker edge to it but truly has a sweet hea.

Three Times A Lady (Not Just Royals #2) by Dahlia Rose
I purchased this book.
I DEVOURED Book 1 and fell in love with Jasper’s best Mate Haile. When I saw the tall drink of water was the next book I immediately downloaded and started it. There is something about a Ginger, right ladies?? And yes, as I read this book I was thinking of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
We meet Haile and know under the gruff military man is a Lord of the lands but also a sweet guy who too is wanting love. After seeing Jasper and Zeva’s love he is hoping and wanting that for himself. However, his all-consuming loss of his sister and her disappearance causes him to be full of grief.
Mari is finds herself stuck in a country without the man who promised to love and protect her. She has lots of secrets and needs help but fears anyone who might offer help after being screwed over. When Haile stumbles across her and offers her a hand she takes it. They work together and start to feel more but both are dancing around the other for fear of crossing a line.
When Mari’s past and Haile’s past collide, they reach to help the other grounded and safe.
I really liked Haile and Mari’s story. The plot twists of Mari’s life and Haile’s sister were both great ones. I must say Mrs. H stole the show with her sass and zero eff’s to people who are disrespectful!! She made every scene great!!

typical sequel

This addition to the series did not wow me. The 2nd half of the book had numerous editing and grammar mistakes. I found that odd, but pushed through anyway. The character building between Haile and Mari was lacking. Also the idea that Haile was a lord was really washed over like it was no big deal at all. My heart ached for his lost sister and that plot line got no love. Mari was a nice girl who did not want to appear as a lady jumping from one man to the next, but sweetie that’s exactly what you did. I dunno, I was not totally happy with this installment. I’m hoping that the third book brings it home with a grand slam. I give this book 2 stars.

A love at the right time

I love this story. Not the sadness or madness but the perfect unexpected timing. Haile and Mari were ment to be. Nothing happens by pure accident. I loved that we got to see Jasper and Zeva with their baby. I hope there are more to come from Northumberland.

I loved this book! It was the right amount if everything. Mari and Haile's story is a true love story stemming from a chance meeting. It's makes you believe in love and all possibilities of that love. Keep up the good work Ms. Rose! I'm looking forward to the next book.

Wow

First, I love red haired men, that hooked me. Second I really liked the way the story flowed , so that you can picture the landscape, the pub in your mind. Loved the characters, but I think Marcus could c9me back and cause trouble, because he is hard headed.

Really???

I should have expected the ending, but I totally missed the “Who done it?” clues. This was a great read that had me rooting for the two main characters to solve their personal conflicts so that it could pave the way for their HEA.

Wonderful

Lots of twist and turns. Marisol was catfished. Found herself alone in England with no were to go. Haile fighting his own demons gave her a job and a place to live. This story has attempted murder, abuse, and a HEA.

Interesting plot, complex characters

I enjoyed reading this book and felt that the character and plot development was great. I only wish there had been some more underlying or unresolved issues with Angela never being found to keep the door open for a second book.

Best Dahlia Read to date

I’ve been a major fan of her military stories. But for a while it seemed like she wasn’t writing the same. I wondered if it was someone writing under her pseudonym.
This story restored my faith and love of her writing. Now to read Zeva and Jasper’s story.

Love and Goodness

Great second book in this series. I say love because love was abound from the beginning and goodness was on every page. An author has to know these things to write about them so well. Thank you Ms. Rose!

I’m in love

I’m in love with story. The characters were so beautifully written. The ending was kind of predictable. But it didn’t take away from the storyline.
