She's a busy lawyer whose life has just been flipped upside down. He's an ex-soldier whose heart has just been broken. They're perfect strangers, and now they're roommates too.
Sometimes I'm a hot mess. There's no debating that. But I'm trying to get my life together, starting with my fixer upper house.
How did I end up with a tall, devilishly handsome Israeli roommate? I couldn't actually tell you. Avi steamrolled into my life, and I kind of liked it.
He's a flirt, but we have a contract and rule number one is no sex. Which is a good thing, because as attractive as he is, he's just putting his broken heart back together, and I'm not looking to be his rebound.
Only it seems our contract isn't worth the pink highlighter and paper it's written on since Avi's never met a rule he didn't want to break.
I am not sure how to rate this one to be honest... Have you ever had something sweet to eat or drink and wasn't sure if you liked it or not? I mean, it tasted good on one hand because it was different then what you ever had before, but on the other, well...it was different. You know? That's exactly how I felt about this story... I didn't love/love it, but nor did I hate it...
***** SPOILERS AHEAD *******
Okay, so this is a story about a 30 year old Lawyer, Lauren, who comes from a big loving Italian family. Lauren bought a fixer up home and moved out of the city to Baltimore to be close to her 3 best friends. She wanted a new start & to reinvent herself after she f**k up royally. Now this heroine and I share three things: She loved to bake & cook (same as me), she collected vintage Le Creuset bakeware (where's I collect anything & everything Le Creuset!) AND she had a fabulous closet where she spent time hanging out, meditating, admiring her work Suits of all things & solving problems with her two cute nieces! (Only difference there between us is that I admire my cashmere sweaters and dream of winning the lottery so that I can have a bigger diva closet (think Mariah Carey, Oprah or Paris Hilton..).
Lauren is a beautiful & short (only 5 ft) optimistic & funny heroine. This story mainly contains her POV and boy did I have a few laugh-out moments. One thing I loved about this heroine is her close friendships with her BF's, co-workers, family (especially her nieces as it was just too cute & sweet!) and her relationship/friendship with Hero.
Now there are two things that I hated also about her. Her fascination with comics & super Heroes which was endless by the way and boring as hell. And the other thing that took the fun out of my enjoyment was at about 50% in, we learn that a year prior, she had an affair with her MARRIED boss- knowing he was married and didn't stop to consider who she was hurting and how wrong it was!!! So while she regrets what she did, especially since the guy's wife found out about her affair and confronted her, I did like that she learned from her mistake and changed, but what she did was so wrong that I just couldn't get past it.
"I hadn’t forgiven myself, because I’d never thought I deserved it. But my life hadn’t begun the first time I slept with Tom, and it hadn’t ended there either. I wasn’t the sum of that one decision. I’d made wise choices, I’d done a lot of really good things, and I’d fucked up along the way. But I always learned. I always shrived to be better. And I never purposely hurt anyone. Yes, I’d been selfish. But I was young and naive. That wasn’t an excuse, just a fact. I just hadn’t thought I’d hurt anyone with my actions. If I could have seen into the future, seen Monica’s bloodshot eyes and pained face, still living in a world of hurt three months after she’d first discovered the affair, I never would have started it".
Now Avi, he was a Hero unlike any I ever read before. First of we don't know what his age is, whether he was slightly younger or same age as her (and the math trying to figure it out hurt my head to be honest..). He is an Israeli Hero who also comes from a big loving family, speaks so bluntly that at times I cringed what came out of his mouth! Avi was in the marines (army?) and after serving, he came to Baltimore to work as a....... Hairstylist!!!! He & his entire family were all in the business of hair styling! (When he first meets heroine, he colored, shampooed & styled her hair! He also gave fashion decorator advice BUT he is totally straight you guys!! 😉).
One of the things I loved about this Hero is that he has no filter - at all! He speaks his mind and what comes out of it at times is both funny & sexy hot!! He has also just come out of a long term relationship. His ex, Mara, was sort-of family (not by blood though). He & Mara met when they were teenagers and fell in love. After he came home to Baltimore to be with her, they moved in together and dated for two years (though at one time he said 5..) but his ex cheated on him and he broke things off. He was very hurt, bitter and angry about this in the beginning. For me, I hate whenever there is another love and this part took away my enjoyment as well because I kept picturing him & heroine at family dinners with the ex sitting there (she was his aunt's niece & his cousin's cousin).
When Avi meets Lauren, he learns of her fixer upper and invites himself to be her roommate & help her fix it up. She eventually gives in and they start to build a friendship, then they become lovers and eventually fall in love. But Lauren is keeping her secret of her past affair from him because she is afraid that if she tells him (considering he was cheated on), he may end things with her. When he finally learns of it, I loved how he forgave her and did not walk away from her as other Heroes tend to do!
By the end, I really felt this couple were in love and had build a great foundation and that doesn't happen often in fictional romances. I also liked the realism that the Author incorporated by giving us both the Italian & Jewish custom/traditions and how the two different worlds could mesh. That's not an easy thing to do with couples that come from different backgrounds and I give credit to Author for incorporating it and making it work for both Hero & heroine.
So all in all, this is one of those stories where you will love certain parts and hate others but when you reach the end, it will leave you kind of satisfied - at least it did for me.
SAFETY: NO cheating. No OW/OM drama - well with exception. Heroine's married man texts her often but she never answers him. Hero's ex also comes into the picture twice to talk to him but she doesn't want him back, nor causes any trouble. While I would have liked to know what they talked about, the two conversations he had with her were done off page....
First, I feel like I need to apologize to my former number one guy in this series. James, you are now officially in second place as Best Man of the Sublime series. You’re a very close second, but Avi edges you out of the first place spot.
Okay, now that that’s done. This book is absolutely the perfect end to this group of friends and their roads to their HEAs. This author has truly hit her stride with this one. I didn’t want to put it down and was quite irritated that I did, in fact, need some sleep to function.
Laurel made a mistake and it almost cost her her entire career, but she acknowledged that and tried to make her life into something she could be proud of. The day before her “new me” job begins, she goes to her best friend, Frannie (of the James and Frannie duo) for a new look, only to find that stubborn, bossy, HOT Avi wants to do her hair instead. Avi somewhat pushes her into accepting him as her roommate in her new fixer-upper house, and the ride begins.
Avi is untangling himself from a toxic relationship and yet finds himself falling for Laurel from jump. He knows that he needs to be a little cautious with Laurel and her heart, but he also knows that he is the best man for her and that they could have a beautiful forever if she would just let her walls down a little. They make their way from friends to friends with benefits to so much more, and Avi’s directness and refusal to play games with Laurel’s heart make this such a sweet story.
They do hit a big bump in the road, but Laurel womans up and Avi loves the woman she is because he knows her past helped shape her into who she is now, so he stands strong for them both. Their HEA is beautiful and made me wish for more pages so I could stay in their world a little bit longer, but the epilogue shows just how bright the future is for them and the entire group from this series, so I can’t complain. I think we all need to know a man as blunt and unwilling to play games as Avi, and we all need to know a woman as strong and determined to turn her life around as Laurel.
My first read of Julia Wolf and she gave me one of my favourite heroes I’ve ever read about! Everything he says had me laughing so hard, or swoon like madness. He gives you real... and whether he was blunt, pushy, or however you take his approach... he was absolutely honest to a T!!! a man after my own heart!!! The heroine, though flawed... was remorseful enough to use mistakes of the past to shape her into the person she is!! Which was what won me over with her...
I absolutely loved and enjoyed Avi and Laurel’s story... loved the progress of the story!!! They were perfect for each other in this opposite attracts kind of thing... the funniest bickering... the swoony conversations... the vulnerable scenes... the hot scenes, were all amazing!!!
I’ve only read this (Pixie Cut), which is the last book of the series and I’m pretty sure it’s the BEST of them all!!!
ONE CLICK and swoon with me over this Israeli hunk of a man. I don’t want to say much because I don’t want to spoil the story. This truly, was an awesome read! xX
Pixie Cut by Julia Wolf is the 4th book in The Sublime Series. And it’s a good one! Prepare to swoon!
Synopsis: Laurel is getting over an affair that has her changing jobs. Avi is getting over a recent breakup. Avi moves in with Laurel and the rest you’ll have to read.
So, I was previously on Team James after reading Cut Loose, but I’m now a torn woman because Avi is HOT, ladies! The whole gang is, of course, in the book, and for my fellow Team James folks, don’t worry he makes some appearance! 😍 So, grab that glass of wine and sit down to catch up with your Tiber City crew!
One of Julia's greatest gifts as a writer is in her descriptions. Everything from Avi's looks to Laurel's cooking just makes me want to drool! I love the other stories in this series and their tales of second chances with the same people, but Laurel and Avi's story grabs me in a different way with how new they are to each other and how they learn each other as they fall in love.
Laurel’s life may have been just been flipped upside down professionally and emotionally, but she’s determined to get a fresh start with a new job and her new fixer-upper house. She isn’t looking for a roommate, but when one who happens to be good with his hands falls in her lap and offers to help her fix up her new home, she can’t say no, even when she knows she should.
Avi, hair-stylist extraordinaire needs a place to stay after breaking up with his long term girlfriend. When the lovely Laurel finds herself in his chair, Avi somewhat steamrolls his way into her life and her house. He needs a place to stay and she needs a roommate who can help her with her home renovations, so it seems logical.
Laurel’s not looking for romance in any way, but her new Israeli roommate is a total flirt and ridiculously handsome as well. He’s also extremely generous with his time and skills helping Laurel to make her new house a home. It’s a good thing they’ve agreed to no sex in their rental contract, because Laurel’s more interested in her roommate than she should be. And, Avi may be nursing a broken heart, but the lovely Laurel is working her way beneath his skin. Avi tells it like it is and he always says what he means. They may have no sex as one of their rules, but Avi has never been one to follow rules he doesn’t like.
Just when their budding romance seems to be taking a turn to the serious side, Laurel’s past comes screaming at them. Will Avi be able to accept Laurel’s past when it clashes with his own or will their days as roommates and lovers be through?
Honestly, no one writes a romantic man like Julia Wolf! These men are not necessarily alphas, or heroes, they are the normal sweet and amazing guy you truly hope you have the chance to meet and have a relationship with.
Avi is simply an amazing guy. He’s real and honest. He’s thoughtful and caring and romantic even when he is a bit pushy and may lack some tact due to his cultural background. He’s got his sights set on Laurel from the moment she pulls him into her closet and isn’t going to let her walk away from what he knows they can have.
Laurel is a spitfire. She intelligent and independent. She’s trying hard to separate herself from her past mistakes and atone for the guilt she feels. But, she doesn’t let it completely define her. Underneath her power suits, she is sweet and caring and insecure, making her easy to identify with.
Together, this couple is everything a couple should be, and I loved every minute of their friendship and flirtation and finally romance once they both gave in to their feelings. It’s really a fun and gorgeous story and fans of the stories will truly lose their minds with the epilogue - it’s a real treat! 5 stars
I received an ARC from the author and I'm happy to post my honest review.
I seriously love Julia Wolf. I am legitimately excited whenever I get to read one of her books. Pixie Cut is no exception.
This is Laurel's book and we start with her leaving a pretty bad situation at her job and starting fresh at Alex's company (he dated Eliza briefly). There were hints of something going down with Laurel in previous books and I really couldn't wait to know what actually happened. Since she was starting a new job she decided to stop by our favorite hair salon. All of the gang was busy so she saw the new stylist Avi. He was bossy, honest to a fault, and invited himself to be her roommate.
I'm pretty sure Avi is my new favorite, knocking Joe down from his pedestal. Avi is from Israel and recently broke up with his long time girlfriend. He wants to move into Laurel's house to help her fix it up but also to get a little separation from his ex and their large families.
I loved that Avi didn't hold anything back. He decided he liked Laurel and went for it. He was a dirty talker and pursued what he wanted. Laurel tried to hold herself back because of the poor choices she made but ultimately was swept off her feet.
I think I would love to be friends with Laurel. She is so real and loyal and a wonderful friend. She bakes and cooks for people to share her love. That kind of love language appeals to me.
And the epilogue!! I can't even. I was so excited to read what everyone was up to and reminiscing. All in all, this is a home run from Ms. Wolf and I can't wait to read more of her work.
What a great book. This author is really good at making you laugh. If you need a good laugh, pick up a book by this author. This book has romance and heat, but also a little heart break. The plot of this book was interesting. Roommates turned lovers? Anytime I read roommates in the blurb I am always excited. Roommate stories are always the best. This was no exception. I really liked how the author went about this plot. It was fun and flirty with a side of romantic. It was perfect. The characters in this book were dynamic. I really liked Laurel. She was such a relatable character. She is strong and independent, but also has a soft side to her. Then you have Avi. Give me a solider boy any day. My heart ached for him, but I was happy to see where his story went. The flirty nature of the characters relationship started this heat off on the right track. Even with their rules, the flirting took this story over the top. I loved it! The heat was amazing and I couldn’t get enough. The writing style of this book was good. The pace of the story is steady. I really liked the cameos from other characters in the series as well. The author did a great job creating a world readers wanna fall into. Overall, this is an amazing story. I really enjoyed these characters. I would have to say this is my favorite book in this series. I would recommend this book to others. Ratings: Plot: 5/5 Characters: 5/5 Heat: 5/5 Writing Style: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
Book four in The Sublime series brings us Laurel’s story. It’s hard getting respect when you look like a little pixie, but Laurel has fought and clawed her way through law school and into a big firm. When that world shatters, she finds a new gig and a new life waiting. Laurel’s new coworkers provide the welcome she wasn’t expecting, and are a fun addition to the series.
Avi is the new stylist at Salon 410, recovering from a broken heart and betrayal of his former girlfriend. When he sees Laurel, she is all he can see. He steamrolls into her life and into her heart. He brings her to meet his family, and she is accepted right away. How could he get so lucky?
I loved the way Avi just worked his way into Laurel’s world. As much as she tries to keep him at arm’s length, it just ain’t gonna happen. I hated that Laurel wouldn’t just “rip off the band-aid” until someone ripped it off for her. Will their relationship survive him knowing about the person she was before?
This entire series is just a warm blanket on a cold morning. Sweet, loving, and fun. The characters from the first three books are still with Laurel, and we get to see where life is taking them. The ‘heathen’ and the good Jewish boy weather the rocky shoals and come out stronger. Indeed, not everybody was ‘kung fu fighting’ – some were falling in love.
Perfection! Loved these two! They are definitely my favorite pair of the series. The whole series was just so sweet, I feel like the author really hit her stride with this group. I loved them all and I really enjoyed that this book delved into the whole 'cheating' taboo! NO, THERE IS NO CHEATING BETWEEN THE HERO AND HEROINE, but as adults, we are going to meet people with some type of cheating in their history, its inevitable, and we will likely get involved with people who have cheated as well as some who have been cheated on. The world is an imperfect place. I like that she addressed it. She did not sugar coat it, people make mistakes, they do bad things. Its one thing to avoid topics that are undesirable, its a totally different thing to stick your head in the sand and pretend bad things don't happen. People grow, mistakes are a part of that. I love how Laurel owned her mistake with grace and dignity and was properly self aware and apologetic. And I loved that Avi was a strong enough man that he could love her through her mistakes. I look forward to more from this author, a new light hearted (but still Kindle melting sexy heat!) romantic comedy or romantic suspense would be fantastic, and I would not mind at all if we got to read Yo's story one of these days!
Julia Wolf cranked up the heat with Pixie Cut! She brought her signature sweet as candy style and then turned the heat up a few degrees to give us pure perfection! I have fallen in love with all these ladies and all their men. I knew Laurel would be the icing on the cake. She was and so much more! Laurel has made some mistakes, pretty big ones, but she learned from them and is trying her hardest to move on. New house. New job. New roommate. After meeting Avi it's no surprise they are both smitten from the start. Can they survive living together and the undeniable connection they feel?
Laurel is hilarious! I share her love of all things superheroes and loved getting my geek on with her. Avi is so blunt that it's refreshing. He just says whatever he thinks and has no time to sugarcoat things. He meshed so well with Laurel. They were opposites, yet they were perfect for each other. When drama hit the fan they both impressed me with his mature they were dealing with it and how much love they shared to get past it.
I'm so sad to see this ending, but what an ending it was! The epilogue will remind you why you swooned over these guys in the first place! This series, this book, every book, pure sublime!
This is my first time reading any of Julia Wolf's Books but it definitely won't be the last. I have already ordered several of her other books in the Sublime Series.
This book is proof that opposites attract and sometimes the most unexpected matches are the best. The characters OMG!! Avi is swoon worthy if there ever was one. He is tall, dark, handsome and has an accent making him sexy as hell. He is honest, straight forward, always says what he thinks and a true Alpha in the bedroom. Laurel is blonde and due to her tiny stature and chosen profession (Lawyer) tries to command respect wearing her Power Suits and acting tough but Avi sees right through her act and calls her on her it every chance he gets.
I could not put this book down. I highly recommend it. If this is an example of all her works, Ms. Wolf has become one of my favorite new authors.
I loved the book, it’s a roommate to lovers story. Julia Wolf’ Writing is amazing, it’s an easy read with lots of humor. I fell completely in love with Avi and Laurel. Laurel is this amazing independent woman, who need to upgrade her new house. She meets Avi at the hairdresser and gets completely fascinated with him. (His charm, body, eyes and accent) Avi is working at the hair salon with Laurel’s best friends, where he needs a place to stay and offers Laurel to help her fix up her house. If you want to know more of this beautiful story you should definitely read this book! (And all the books in the sublime series) I loved it, and I bet you will love it too!
OMG I loved it!!! I’ve never read a Julia Wolf book before but she is amazing. I love her writing style and her character development. I also love how we touch base with characters from the previous books so you get updates on them but you don’t have to read the previous books in the series to read this one. I love Avi and how he kept going after what he wanted but not in a creepy way. Laurel said she wasn’t ready or even implied it he immediately backed off. Their story is amazing in large part because it is two amazing people who only see their own failings and not how awesome they are.
I have been looking forward to Laurels book since we met Frannies ambitious, smart lawyer friend. I love the confidence Laurel has and how she met her match with Avi. Ms Wolf writes these amazing characters that you can relate too and can see them in your friend circle. Laurel and Avi are no exception. The chemistry between the two is off the charts and when they hit obstacles you are cheering them through wanting them to get their HEA. I am going to miss the sublime series but the last book is definitely a great way to finish a series.
This is the fifth book in this awesome series, and is Laurel and Ari’s story. Laurel has made mistakes in her past, and is working hard to have a better life. When she goes to have a makeover, sexy, hot Ari insists on doing her hair, and somehow convinces her to take him on as a roommate. These two are total opposites, yet so perfect together. This is a beautifully written story which had me totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author, whose work I highly recommend for all readers!
Julia has done it again! She has written a wonderful book! It was a great roommates to lovers romance! Laurel and Avi were great! They meet when Laurel goes to her best friends salon and Avi gives her a makeover. He convinces her to let him be her roommate. They make a great couple and they had hot chemistry! This story proves opposites attract! This story drew me in from the start and I couldn’t stop reading! It was beautifully written with wonderful characters! I can’t wait for Julia’s next book! It can’t get here soon enough!
really enjoyed this book Laurel is a hot mess and completely relatable. She has made some mistakes and she knows that so she is trying to change her life around. When she meets Avi at the salon all her girls work at he kinda takes over her life lol. Y'all these two are so cute trying to dodge there feelings for each other. She refuses to mess with Avi because he's recently out of a sticky relationship. Y'all this book was so much fun to read!!! Oh and Rachel has the baby!
Laurel a corporate lawyer looking for a new start after running as fast as she could from her last job. Steamrolling into her life come Avi. He invites himself to live in her new home after he has just gone running from a relationship in which he had been cheated on.
The love they find for each other is nothing short of amazing!
Pixie Cut was a great ending for a fantastic series by Julia Wolf. Thoroughly enjoyed each book and although the characters intertwined somewhat, they were each very different stories. This book was about the romance between Laurel and Avi. A very romantic and sexy book. I enjoyed the epilogue from each of the male partners of the four girls to round off the series. A great book and fantastic, fun and sexy series of books. Well worth the read. Loved them all!
Once again Julia Wolf did an amazing job! Her Sublime Series is by far one of my favorites! Laurel and Avi's story had me hooked from page 1. I could not put it down! Her stories draw you in and are so easy to connect with! I can not wait to read her next book!
This is my first read by Julia Wolf and how I've never read her sooner can't answer. But what I can say is that reading this book has definitely made up for not reading her sooner. I absolutely loved Avi and Laurel and I'm excited to see what is next.
This book was sublime! I loved Laurel throughout the series and it was great getting more of her. I absolutely adored Avi and his prickliness. A great last book to the series.
When I started reading this I did not realise it was the final book in a series. At a push this could be read as a standalone as I did but there was a constant feeling of missing something as the group of friends discussed things that had happened.
However the couple this book focuses on, Laurel and Avi were so not what I was expecting. Avi was a little hard to understand at first with his brash then childlike hurts. Once the storyline got going though when the pair become roommates the connection started to build and by the end I was loving this relationship and I adored Avi. Laurel was a bit love shy after a disastrous work affair but she quickly sorts her head out and allows herself to fall for Avi.
I liked that Avi was not your typical American alpha hero and I loved the addition of the Israeli traditions and cultures. Nice touch and endeared Avi even more to me.
If you have been a fan of this series and already know all the other couples then the ending would have been an added bonus with epilogues for each couple. I myself found this detracted from Laurel and Avi’s HEA and it impacted on my final thoughts of the book. I just wished I had known it was a series before I started it and I know I would have enjoyed so much more by knowing the other couples. Therefore I suggest you read the series. Overall though an enjoyable read and a four star rating for me.
5/5 Laurel a corporate lawyer looking for a new start after running as fast as she could from her last job. Steamrolling into her life came Avi. He invites himself to live in her new home after he has just gone running from a relationship in which he had been cheated on.
The love they find for each other is nothing short of amazing!
This book is absolutely adorable, my favorite so far in the series. I couldn't help love the fun chemistry between Avi and Laurel is great. Avi steams rolls right over Laurel and into her house as her new room mate. Not sure what to expect Laurel find herself attracted to Avi in a way she never expected. But Avi recovering from a broken heart finds himself struggling to over look Laurel's past mistake in the relationship department. A great love story with such fun amazing characters. This should be on everyone's TBR list.
It is not romantic or even entertaining to read about a heroine who knowingly goes after a married man, not caring whose life she wrecks!
It is not entertaining either to read about a Hero who lusts & is in love with a family member (even if they are not blood related and is not the heroine)!
If these two things disgusts you like it did me, avoid it then!!
Perfect! Avi and Laurel were a wonderful addition to this group of friends and their stories. I loved to get a glimpse of all the characters from the series. Each chapter added to the story to make it complete and to let me know a bit more about Laurel and Avi and fall in love with them
