Within the supernatural world of Evermore everyone prays their child will be born with the Mark of the Guardian for they have unparalleled strength, intelligence, and power…but they have no idea what it’s actually like. I didn’t wish for this gift and I definitely don’t want it. I was born a prince, I already had it all. This Mark on my neck stole all of it from me and forced me into a dangerous life I’d gladly trade away if I could…
But now the Witch Queens have ascended and it’s time to try and defeat the evil King once and for all. For over a thousand years his cruelty has spared no one as his torturous power grows stronger. He must be stopped now, before his reign destroys everything and anything in his way. So I must push aside my dreams of returning home to the family that cast me out. I must step up and claim the power that chose me. I must enter the Trials and become a Knight in the Witch’s Court.
There’s only one way to prevent the tyrannical king from destroying everything I love…I must become the one thing he can’t beat.
Fans of Harry Potter, Arcana Chronicles, and Mortal instruments will LOVE Megan Montero’s brand new urban fantasy series! It’s full of adventure, magic and just enough alpha male to leave you wanting more.
Wicked Trials is the prequel novella to the new series The Royals: Witch Court Series.
Very boring. I’m honestly not sure what the point of this book was. Considering it’s supposed to be filled with dangerous, action-packed trials, it’s amazing how dull it turned out to be. Thankfully, it was short.
If you’re reading this series and on the fence about this one, feel free to skip it—you’re really not missing much.
What an awesome book. I feel that even my boy students would love to read this. We have suspense, action, and more. Some children are born with a mark of the guardian, which Tucker is a phoenix, and has been born with the mark. At six years old he finds out that he has to go to training, but he wants to stay with the love of his family. He will go to trials to see if he is fit to be a Knight for the Witch Queens. All the supernatural are fighting for the right, can Tucker do it? Will the others he has meet in the trials win too, or will the ones out for themselves win? When all the witches descend can they beat the evil king? I received a free copy for my honest review.
My God. The grammar and (lack of) editing in this book are atrocious. Misspelled words and typos galore. Not to mention the run on sentences and lack of commas. I had to reread a wealth of sentences to even make sense of them. It’s a great story, but I very nearly didn’t finish it.
Every parent in the supernatural world of Evermore prays that it will be their child who will be born with the Mark of the Guardian for that person is the one who will have unparalleled strength, intelligence, and power, but the truth is they have no idea what it's like to have that mark.
Tucker never wished for the gift and he doesn't want it. Tucker had been born a prince, he already had everything he could ever want. The mark on his neck ripped it all away from him and it forced him into a dangerous life that he would happily trade to someone else if had the chance to.
The Witch Queens have now ascended to their thrones and the time has come to attempt to try and defeat the evil King for the final time. He's ruled for over a thousand years he's ruled with cruelty, none have been spared, and no one has escaped his torturous power as it has grown stronger.
The evil King has to be stopped now before his reign can destroy everything and anything that gets in his way. So Tucker has to give up his dreams of going back home to his family, even if that family cast him out. Tucker has to step up, claim the power that chose him, and do what's best for everyone. And now he has to enter the Trials, all to become a Knight in the Witch's Court.
Tucker knows that there is only one way he can prevent the tyrannical king from destroying everything that he loves...Tucker has to become the one thing that the tyrannical king can't beat.

Wicked Trials by Meagan Montero is the prequel novella in Meagan Montero's new series The Royals: Witch Court Series.
This is such a great book. Like Harry Potter, I think this is a series that would appeal to not only female readers but also male readers. I think that this is something that will appeal to readers of all ages and will soon have a lot of people chattering about it and falling in love with the characters and the storyline.
You are going to find that this novella is packed full of suspense, action, and so much more. It's going to give you everything that you want to find in a novella in this genre. I love the concept and the magic.
I would highly recommend reading this novella and I would recommend this series as it has the potential to be a great sensation.
Wicked Trials: The Royals: Witch Court Prequel Novella by Megan Montero ~~ I absolutely loved diving into this prequel novella that sets the stage for the Witch Court series! Wicked Trials gives us a thrilling glimpse into the brutal, magical, and twisted world that lies ahead—and it does not hold back.
We follow Jade, a powerful yet underestimated witch who’s thrust into the deadly Witch Court Trials, where survival is not guaranteed and betrayal is inevitable. From the start, the stakes are high—one wrong move means death. The trials themselves are brutal and magical, full of illusions, combat, and power struggles that test Jade not just physically but emotionally as well.
Jade’s interactions with the Royals are tense and magnetic, especially with Prince Kael, who is mysterious, dominant, and possibly dangerous in all the best ways. The chemistry is there, but so is the warning—he’s not someone to trust easily, if at all.
One of the most gripping scenes? When Jade is forced to choose between saving another contestant or proving her own strength. That moment defined her character—selfless, smart, but also learning to harden herself in a world that punishes the kind-hearted.
This novella perfectly sets up the darkness and intensity of the Witch Court. By the end, I was desperate for more—Jade’s future is clearly going to be full of danger, passion, and rebellion. Bring on the full series!
I cannot wait to see where Jade’s journey goes next—this prequel absolutely hooked me! LOVE❤️ and recommend this whole series…
I quite enjoyed this book. Tuck doesn't want to be trained as a guardian for a Witch Queen. First he has to land as a Guardian so he can protect "his" Queen. Not as easy as it sounds. He finds who his friends are during the trials. A lot fail but those who make it will never forget going through them. The Siphon Witch is only 16 and is going to make things way more tough for Tuck. This novella is interesting and I think this series will be a winner.
If you've read the Wicked Court books then you already know how badass Tucker and the other Knights are. It was nice to see how the Knights did and what they endured during the Trials that we've heard so much about. Tucker's first reaction to Zinnia is priceless. It makes you love them even more.
A quick yet thrilling beginning for this action packed series that promises to be a heart pounding adventure... looking forward to reading more of this magical world.
This is a great start to what I believe will be an awesome series!! I love Tucker, he seems like such a badass! I’m ready to find out what’s up with Zin
Interesting introduction to a universe that promises to be rich and varied. I love the quick introductions to the characters and can't wait to read more about them as the series goes on.
It was a great story, however there were quite a few grammar and spelling mistakes in the book that kinds of bothered me a bit. If it wasn't for those my rating would have been a 5 star.
