Since his debut in Amazing Fantasy No. 15 in August 1962, Spider-Man has been a hero to millions. Peter Parker was an ordinary teen who received powers from a radioactive spider, and failed to stop the man who would murder his uncle. This led him on a singular quest to take on the mantle of Spider-Man and rid New York City of the bad guys, and we’ve been rooting for him ever since. For more than 50 years he’s been a star of comic books, television, movies, and Broadway, and now, with 192 pages of images with text by Roy Thomas, The Little Book of Spider-Man is your authoritative guide to the everyman super hero!
Roy Thomas was the FIRST Editor-in-Chief at Marvel--After Stan Lee stepped down from the position. Roy is a longtime comic book writer and editor. Thomas has written comics for Archie, Charlton, DC, Heroic Publishing, Marvel, and Topps over the years. Thomas currently edits the fanzine Alter Ego for Twomorrow's Publishing. He was Editor for Marvel comics from 1972-1974. He wrote for several titles at Marvel, such as Avengers, Thor, Invaders, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and notably Conan the Barbarian. Thomas is also known for his championing of Golden Age comic-book heroes — particularly the 1940s superhero team the Justice Society of America — and for lengthy writing stints on Marvel's X-Men and Avengers, and DC Comics' All-Star Squadron, among other titles.
Also a legendary creator. Creations include Wolverine, Carol Danvers, Ghost Rider, Vision, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Valkyrie, Morbius, Doc Samson, and Ultron. Roy has also worked for Archie, Charlton, and DC among others over the years.
This is the first book, in a series of four, each focusing on some of the heroes and teams of Marvel Comics.
AMAZING BOOK!
This “Little Book of” isn’t as little as you may think. Certainly it’s small (in the sense that it’s 5” x 7”) BUT it’s 192 pages long! Where you can appreciate the impact of Spider-Man, inside and outside the comic books, through a visual-and-text journey.
This an European-licensed product which begins with a prose introduction “What's Extraordinary about Spider-Man?” presented in three languages: Spanish, Portuguese and Italian.
After that, you start an unstoppable tour, divides per ages (Silver, Bronze, and Modern) about many of the main highlights in comic books but also its media appearances in TV & Films, both live-action and animated.
Obviously, with characters like Spider-Man, even in 192 pages, you can’t cover everything, but honestly due its cheap price, you can’t ask of something as good as what you get here.
Spidey gets the Taschen treatment! This tome is tiny compared with their usual coffee tablers, but it is published with the same high quality. Featuring images of classic comic covers, rarely seen production art, and publicity photos, each accompanied by informative text by a man who was around for many of the Wall-Crawler’s most memorable moments.
I loved reading this book because I learned more about one of my favorite characters in a fun way. Plus, the pocket size of the book makes it easy to read on the go. If you love Spider-Man, you should give this a read.
The book reviews the art concept for Spider-Man through the ages - from the 1960s up to 2014. It was really good to see how this familiar character evolved as the years passed, and how much his story gets timeless.
