When Mary Weaver, the founder of Mayday House, a refuge for women in need, mysteriously dies, Keeley Farrell returns home to continue Mary's work and uncovers shocking secrets that could lead to her own demise. Original.
I live on Vancouver Island in the moody, green, and rain-washed Pacific Northwest. So when I'm seriously story challenged (too often!) I often walk the beach and commune with the stunning and multi-talented Mother Nature. (Make that beg for inspiration!) If that doesn’t work, a few minutes thinking about the quirks and foibles of human nature usually does the trick.
I dislike cooking. I dislike nosy people. I dislike too many rainy days in a row. I dislike snakes.
And the only word I hate is hate.
I love reading, writing, my sons, my sister, my twin granddaughters, my Rhodesian Ridgeback, Boon--and most of all my first and last husband, Tim.
You can follow me on Twitter, if that's something you tend to do. @EC_Sheedy I also mess around on Tumblr. That's here: http://ecsheedy.tumblr.com/
This was recommended to me by my friend Jesse and I finished it before she did! I couldn't put it down! Excellent story, excellent writing, great twists and turns!
BOOK COVER/DESIGN: 6.5/10 stars. I thought the book cover was very 80's. It's simplicity, though, along with the synopsis at the back, led me to buying this book.
GENERAL REVIEW/THOUGHTS: One word: wow. I am a sucker for suspense and romance, and I thought, why not read romantic suspense books? This didn't disappoint. The characters were flawed - which I loved. They all had their complicated pasts, and looking at them as a group, they make up a set of very diverse individuals. The characters were extremely interesting and I find parts of me in them - all of them. I just loved that they were from different walks of life. As for the plot, I thought it was gripping enough, fast - paced enough, and well - thought of. The book itself grew in me and I enjoyed reading this very much! Among all the characters, it was Gus that I could relate to the most, so I'd love to see a happy ending for him - however much of a cliff - hanger the ending may be. I'm actually quite sad that EC Sheedy isn't as popular as she deserves to be. A well - written book, indeed.
RECOMMENDATION: I recommend this to anyone who can't get enough of romance! Of course, I'd recommend it to mature audiences. I hope this book gets the attention it so greatly deserves and I urge everyone to read it! :)
Another winner by EC Sheedy! I bought this for myself for my birthday! LOL. Tight suspense, romance, and a character revisited from the first "Bliss" novel. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read and I can't wait to get to the third one in this series!
Mayday House is a home to abused or pregnant women - for those with no where to go. For decades Mary Weaver has looked over and cared for those who have walked through its doors, but the night she dies she tries to right a past wrong. Her attempt to bring Mayday's secret out has a group of people trying to determine what really happened. But there are those who want to keep their secrets, those who want to profit from the secrets and those who want to know how the secrets impact them.
What I like about E.C. Sheedy's books are that neither the plot or the characters feel overly cliche. When you read a lot (which a lot of individuals on Goodreads do), you start seeing the same characters and the same plot over and over again. I give points to this book for the characters which are nicely fleshed out and flawed. None of the characters were perfect - thank goodness as perfect characters are my least favorite. Our two main characters are Gus and Keeley and they make a pretty good team, but what really helps is the interesting supporting cast.
There were a lot of characters and relationships to work through and there were a couple of points were the book dragged a little bit, but for the most part it pulls you in and you really want to find out the past. It's well written and edited and I'm a little surprised that more readers haven't discovered her books.
There are three books in the Bliss Legacy series and they are stand alone books, although a couple of characters do appear in multiple books. I've read and liked both Book 1 and 2 and recommend both to those who like romantic suspense where the suspense is the focus. I intend to follow up and read Book 3 as well.
