For fifty years, The Island has been a haven for shifters wanting to learn to better control their abilities, safe from the threat of hunters and vampires.
But Oberon Rex, one of the last gryphon shifters, worries it's not safe enough. Despite his wife's misgivings, he spends his evenings hunting down vampires in the name of protecting the school and the future of all shifters.
That all comes to an end when he finds out his wife is pregnant.
But leaving the fight doesn't ensure that the fight leaves him. When word comes of increased vampire activity in the nearby city, Oberon feels it's his job to investigate. His wife doesn't agree.
Will Oberon honor his promise to his wife to spend his nights safe at home, or will he do what it takes to protect the school one more time?

Oberon, a human who can shift in to the form of a a gryphon and fly like an eagle, and Ren Suzuki, a human who can morph into a kitsune, a legendary nine-tailed fox. These are the venturers of Shifing Winds, a tale of war and woe in 1990s America where vampires are threatening society and a few courageous groups of gifted warriors are rising to save the day. There is a lot of sadness in this tale; the violence is unrelenting and the body county is tragically high, especially in the personal lives of our heroes. But the tale ends with a glimmer of hope and resolve leaving us reader eager to follow the saga in upcoming episodes.

I have wanted to read Shifting Winds for a while now. Well ever since I received a free copy from the author and have been getting emails introducing me to all the characters. I have really and truly loved getting these emails and look forward to the next one. With all the emails I was getting I couldn’t take it any more I had to read Shifting Winds to meet all these characters and find out more about them.
Shifting Winds starts out with action on the first page that pulled me in and didn’t let go until the last page and even now it is still hanging on. I love all the characters and can’t wait to learn more about them in future books. Shifting Winds kept a tight hold on me with each scene pulling me in until I was oblivious to the world around me. I was so lost that I felt as if I was right there with Oberon helping him fight all the way.
Shifting Winds is a great introduction to the Shifter Academy world. The world creation of Shifting Winds is phenomenal.
I'm hooked. I loved how this book pulled you right into the middle of a story. I can't wait to read all the plot leading up to and after this book. There's some great characters set up, some great action, and so many questions left to answer. If you're a fan of Fantasy reading, I would recommend this book.
I got this book bc I ordered shifter academy and is the prequil to it. This book gave allot of insight as to who what when where why how the academy became what it is. Definitely read this book first!
What a great start! I couldn't understand why the shifters wouldn't stand up for themselves. Poor Oberon!! I can't wait until Shifted comes out to see what happens next!
It was alright. Quite an introduction into the series though. * * I love Ren. I enjoy horrible puns especially at inappropriate times, plus kitsune- yes! Poor Oberon. Also, I love that the clairvoyant mermaid`s name is Delphine... * * Also, vampires completely suck in this story. Like there is no chance for redemption here. I love good bad vampires but I don`t see anything good coming from Beatrice or Draven. These vampires are no bueno.
