A werewolf girl without a past, Kaylin internally struggles with her place at the bottom of the pack. It’s not easy. Not with him, her alpha, the bane of her existence ruling over her with an iron fist. She loathes the way he makes her feel, but she cannot escape him, not while outside forces move in to eradicate her kind. Will Kaylin be strong enough to face them, and her alpha when her past returns to bite her?
First off, I hope that Elizabeth Hudson finds herself several Beta readers and a good editor, as this story could use some cleaning up, but otherwise, this was quite a surprise. It took twists and turns I was not expecting and was quite refreshing at the end where the reader could decide if this was not quite a "happily ever after" depending on one's views, or may we please have another tale or two or three. I would have preferred the final showdown to have been a bit more fleshed out as I wasn't quite sure what the hell occurred at first between the protagonist and antagonist but that could be resolved with a bit of editing and additional writing on behalf of the author.
In this time of the #metoo era, some readers would be easily offended by the misogynistic attitudes of the male werewolves and their sadistic behaviour towards Kaylin, so a trigger warning might be advised but I think that she could dish it right back at them in her own way once she grows into her own powers.
I am also curious about the relationship between Garrett and Katheryn that would have affected her to the degree of sadism and cruelty that she rules the pact the way she does.
In the end, I will definitely be watching for other tales that Ms. Hudson wishes to grace us with. Well done!
This new author is going places. Her first book was thrilling and kept you wanting to read more. Kaylin/Isobel is an intriguing character and cannot wait to see what Ms. Hudson has planned for her path in future books. Hopefully this becomes a series in the lines of Hamilton, Briggs, Feehan. If you like paranormal and fantasy books I highly recommend getting this book to read. You will not be disappointed werewolf fans! I am hoping she keeps expanding on this character and keeping us readers begging for more. I gave it 5 stars which is something I rarely do. If you like underdog, or woman coming of age books in the paranormal or fantasy world get this book. It has sex, battle of wills, suspense, personal and group struggles, fighting, and anything you could ask for in this genre of books.
I really liked the idea behind the plot. But, that’s where it ends. Reading the book was awkward. There were times when it seemed whole sentences were missing and I had to go back and reread to figure out what I had possibly missed. The erotic scenes were far from erotic and felt like they had been pulled from various other poorly written texts. The writing style seems to shift multiple times throughout the book and I can’t help but wonder if it was written in pieces by different authors.
If you like paranormal and fantasy books I recommend getting this book to read. You will not be disappointed, my first read by this author, I enjoyed the book, thank you.
This book was amazing! It was smart, sexy and thought provoking...everything you could want in a book. I’m not sure if there is a sequel to this book but I really wish the author would continue kaylins story.
My first and only reaction to finishing this book. O.o
I have wanted this book for a while now, because of the description, badass cover and good reviews. I regret my choices. Sort of. I didn't completely hate the book, because I did finish it . It just fucked with my head. And my heart. And not in a good way. There is no romance in this book. Just abuse, violence, deception and stupidity. And let's not forget immaturity. Reading this book felt like reading three different books taped together. It did have good parts and lots of potential. But I don't like reading stories with so many confusing actions and senseless torture. No. Just no.
