This was a very weird and creepy book. At first I didn't know what was going on but then realized that they were trapped in a school. I wouldn't recommend this book to people who don't like creepy and weird books. Pretty good book.
Variant by Robinson Wells is a hard story to explain. It is kind of creepy because these orphans are trapped inside a school and they have set up gangs, so they have their own mini civilization within the school they are trapped in. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes the maze runner series because they are a very similar type of book in that the whole storyline is kids trapped in an area with their own setup civilization. I think that the beginning of the story is told pretty well, so it kept me reading. It kind of left some details out that I wanted to figure out. I feel like if I was put into the same situation as the main character (Benson) I would act similarly. I would try to break out of this prison/school/society. I would also have an initial reaction like he did, getting in a fight. I would probably get into a fight because I would be so confused and scared. Overall I gave this book a four out of five stars because I liked it more than I didn't like it because it had an interesting storyline, and I like to read this type of dystopian books. I recommend this book to all other highschoolers, I think it is definitely worth a read.
The book Varient by:Robinson Wells is a book about a guy named Benson who guys to a school that is not what he expects. The school is only run by kids, but there are people that watch the kids and if they do anything bad they get a detention which means they go into a room that you will never come back. What happens is that there are 3 groups of kids and they all run the school by themselves. Benson is very suspicious about the school and doesn't think its safe. Turns out the school is ran by people who are robots. My opinion on the book is that it is very good because it makes you stay up all night long. I think this book is good for everyone because it has a very good story line that everyone would like. Why I rated this book five stars is because it made me want to make everyone read it because it was very good and it made me stay up all night.
I have decided to not finish this. The story was nothing new and the pacing dragged for me. As my favorite characters were removed (and I think about to be removed). I didn't care enough to finish the story.
This was a different spin on the young adults grappling with the struggle for clarity and freedom in the Rats-in-a-maze" genre. It was simple as YA novels tend to be with fewer of life's variables present than reality would be, but it was constructed well and moved at an excellent pace.
I really loved this book! It was perfect in helping me get out of a reading slump. I was so intrigued by the story. I loved all the plot twists and couldn’t put the book down. I’ve been wanting to read it for years and am so happy I finally got around to it.
