How’d we meet?
I kidnapped her!
Don’t worry, it’s not as bad as it sounds. Just a silly college dare.
I’m the quarterback and I had to prove to my team that I would do anything.
So I kidnapped the rival school’s cheerleader.
The look in her eyes was priceless.
And the throb in my jockstrap was unmistakable. I wanted her. Bad.
Now I can’t get her out of my mind. My studies are off. My social life is off. And most importantly of all, my game is off. What did she do to me?
Am I really in love with someone who cheers every time my team drops the ball?
My mind tells me no. But my body can’t survive without her.
Bailey
He kidnapped me.
Can you believe it?
That’s how we met.
He pulls this ridiculous stunt to prove he’s a team player, and kidnaps me.
I wanted to hate his guts.
Before I knew it, he had me breathless with desire. He’s more than just some cocky jock. And it doesn’t hurt that he’s built like a brick house. I’m still dreaming about those washboard abs.
The thing is, I have to forget about him. I’m certainly not allowed to date the rival quarterback.
Team loyalty means everything, right?
But those rock hard abs!
Those dreamy eyes.
And that massive bulge!
Even worse, I’m being forced to date my school’s quarterback. I don’t love him. I don’t even like him. It’s just to keep up appearances.
How did I get into this mess?
And when will I get to run my fingers over those rock hard abs again?

DNF @ 16%

Writing/plot was ok so far. Until 16% when 22yo college-senior & football-captain H and cashier/ college-transfer freshman/new-cheerleader 20yo h started smexxing just minutes from when they met when he kidnapped her as part of a college-football dare. She resisted about her kidnapping & he explained. They introduced each other & then started sharing their secrets (i.e., H confessed he put on a facade & that he wasn't a dumb jock & wanted to be in law enforcement). Then, they soon smexxed WITHOUT even talking about protection. Especially since H had a GF for 2 months and whom he just had dinner with earlier that evening. He may not like her much coz she was dumb & materialistic. But he wouldn't break up with her either since she was easy sex and she was part of his football-player facade. He didn't want people to know that he was not a dumb jock but was actually quite smart & interested in pursuing law enforcement. So, H was cheating with h. Didn't like how dumb & corny & kinda beta H was. He said things like “gosh” & too weak to break up with his booty-call GF. She was ok so far until 16%. When things turned stupid. So, I skimmed the detailed S scenes (no talk of sexual safety & H had no condom on). Then, I was done.

Johanna Hawkes was purported as 1 of the pseudonyms author Chance Carter was also using by a plagiarism article (https://www.theguardian.com/books/201...). Writing style seemed different than Chance Carter's. So Hawkes may not be his pseudonym but they may work together.

Bailey and Jackson are in different universities but students when a prank turns into something more how do they get around the rivalry between the schools ??????? He's a quarterback and keeps the image to go with it but with Bailey he can be himself, she's joined the cheerleaders to make friends but with all their rules how can she still see Jackson ???????. Will they survive all the rivalry, sneaking around, rules, steamy sex, twists and turns will their relationship be doomed from the start...….... Definitely not the usual jock and cheerleader story.

This was a good read. I wasn't sure what I would think but I enjoyed it. Bailey goes away to college she and her new friend Ray try out for the cheer squad. She then meets Jackson who is the star quarterback for the rival school. Dating people from the other school is frowned upon and especially so if you are a cheerleader or a football player. They basically have to hide their relationship. Of course there is drama but thankfully it all works out in the end.

This author really knows how to give you your money’s worth in a book. If you’re a lover of the quickie novellas, this is not your read. Nope, Ms. Hawke is going to make sure you know her characters well, and know why they act and think the way they do…and I personally love that.

This story is a first-rate example of the author’s excellent characterizations. Bailey and Jackson aren’t just two college students who hook up one night for a quickie and realize they have some chemistry. These two have their own unique histories before they ever met that made them who they are. As it turns out, they both endured pretty tragic events regarding their parents at a young age. Yet their childhood years were still quite different, and their outlook on life is certainly not the same. So when their lives intersect one night due to one epically stupid football team prank, these two realize they may have something worth risking the scorn of both their school squads.

What follows is a steamy, dreamy, funfest of two souls learning just how aligned they really are. This is the stuff of wistful fairytale romance.

This well-written story is one that can be shared with your co-workers. There’s very little adult language (mostly in the love scenes), but there are some adult situations, and those love scenes are delightfully steamy. While our lovers Bailey and Jackson are amazing people, they show us their human side throughout this story, with all their previous baggage included. But they’re smart, strong, and know when they’ve got something too good to walk away from just because the going got tough. Great to remember… awesome to read.

>Book Review – Jockstrapped

>I am an independent reviewer. This book is a standalone romance that ends in an HEA. Bailey is a college student with an abusive home life. She attends college to escape home. Her roommate, Ray is a fun character who talks Bailey in to joining the cheerleading squad. There is a lot of hazing involved and for a smart girl like Bailey, who is older than the normal freshman, the fact she puts up with the stupid hazing does not fit her personality.

>Jackson is the rival school’s quarterback. His backstory is sad, but loving. Once again, hazing is involved and causes Jackson to kidnap Bailey. They fall into bed together after Bailey is terrified by the kidnapping. This is another example of behavior that doesn’t match Bailey’s age or personality. Bailey and Jackson embark on a relationship in secret. Rival schools prohibit them dating. They have some romantic weekends away, but there is no way Jackson could get away during the football season. Every weekend has a game, so those away scenes didn’t make sense.

> This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 3 stars. Bailey was much too smart to put up with a forced boyfriend for as long as she did.

What an Amazing & Entertaining HFN Read!

This was the first book I have read by Johanna Hawke and if this book is any indication of her writing, we will she some tremendous books from her in the future. I was hooked and thoroughly engaged with the storyline as Jackson & Bailey dealt with the long-standing traditions of rival colleges. From their first chance encounter or should I say Jackson prank selection which of course was due to tradition, these two found an insta-connection with a heat & chemsitry thats Kindle-melting. The only negative I would say is I wish there was an Epilogue to make this read end with a HEA instead of a HFN. However, I didn't knock the rating for wanting that HEA, mostly due to the overall positive message that came through loud and clear, 'that no one should settle for less than their true soulmate, the one person who complete you & makes it feel as if all the puzzle pieces fit together, the person that makes you a better you!' Definitely Recommend One-Clicking this feel good read, Jockstrapped!
I am voluntarily leaving this voluntary review, but for full disclosure I did receive an advanced review copy, ARC, of this book, however, I also purchased the book too.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the romance between Jackson and Bailey, who were attending rival colleges. Bailey was in her first year of college after a few years away from school and her roommate convinced her to join the cheerleading squad with her. Jackson was the quarterback of the football team and during their hazing of the new team members, the senior members were dared to kidnap a cheerleader from the rival school. Jackson kidnapped Bailey and then when he took her back to his dorm to get a picture as proof, they started to talk and they revealed secrets to each other and had an amazing connection. The next day, Bailey learned she was picked by the captain of her football team to be his girlfriend for the year, as per tradition, and much to Bailey's dismay. Jackson contacted Bailey and they met up again, further confirming their attraction. Jack and Bailey both know they could lose a lot if anyone found out about them seeing each other, but they couldn't stay away. I really loved this story and thought Jackson and Bailey were great together. It was almost like a forbidden romance with the rivalry between the schools and the way they were not supposed to see one another. This was a really good story that i really enjoyed.

How will Jackson and Bailey ever get their HEA when there’s so much opposition?
This is a HOT coming of age story between the quarterback of one college and the cheerleader of their football rival. Their meet-cute was swexy (read about it in the blurb) but what happens later is even more…
Bailey needs a fresh start. After her mom died having her deceased brother, her father went off the rails and became a drunkard and an abuser. Bailey’s escape is to college miles away from what she had called home. As a freshman she’s 20 years old b/c she delayed college to earn money at WalMart.
Her kidnapper is none other than the senior quarterback from the rival school, Jackson White. He pretends to be like the other jocks on the team: dumb, sex-crazed jerk and dedicated to football. BUT, in reality Jackson is smart, sensitive and dedicated to succeed as a law enforcement officer or FBI agent. They find they have much in common so hook up. The problem comes when Bailey shares that Hanesville cheerleaders CANNOT date Valley Manor players. Are there other secrets though?
Truly enjoyed this story. It is well-written, fast-paced and has a great ending. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book.

Funny, heart rendering, and emotive – A new adult contemporary romance HIT!
I’m not usually one to read or review new adult contemporary romances, but the blurb intrigued me, so I volunteered to read “JOCKSTRAPPED” and give an honest review! While the social scene and some of the character angst felt more like high school than college to me (and I even attended a small college like the one described in the novel) that is the ONLY negative. “JOCKSTRAPPED” is a full-length, standalone novel with wonderfully realistic characters. I loved Bailey and Ray and all they stood for in this story, making it easy to root for their happiness. Mr. White was an enigma at first, but his true nature was revealed over time. While Johanna Hawke is an author new to me, this will not be the last novel of hers I will read. Hawke’s writing is descriptive and enticing which makes the plot compelling and the novel easy to read. “JOCKSTRAPPED” has earned 4½ STARS from this reviewer because of those well-developed characters, Hawke’s rich prose and the fact that it is generally a heartwarming read. Get your copy of “JOCKSTRAPPED” today! Happy pages! 😉

I received this book as part of an ARC review. I thought the hazing and rules the Hanesville wants to impose are beyond silly. I do get that there's a rivalry between the two schools but Hanesville and their traditions are overblown. I do like the characters of Bailey and Jackson. It is ironic that two people interested in shows like CSI meet because of a dare where Jackson has to kidnap a Hanesville cheerleader. They act on their attraction quickly but do get to know each other. It was unfair that traditions almost broke them up when they love each other. Bailey and Ray were much happier after transferring to what I believe to be the better college of Valley Manor. The sneaking around that Bailey and Jackson did probably helped them to get to know each other sooner and added a bit of spice to their relationship. I would say it is best to be true to yourself and don't cave in to what others want. You will be happier.

Hero and heroine had sex within hours of meeting each other. Hero was casually dating someone else. What a douche canoe. Hero later on informed heroine that there was someone else when they first had sex but that fact didn't bother her. Some parts of this story did not make sense, especially the part where the heroine was forced to date the hero's arch rival but didnt bother to tell the hero, even though there were dates and kisses involved with the arch rival. Hero also went on a date with other women and didn't tell heroine.

I did not have any respect for the characters.

The author is a talented writer but needs a much better editor. She also needs to focus on creating characters that are realistic and not idiots. I finished this book because I really wanted to know how it ended but I didn't really enjoy the book.

I had a really hard time with this book. This is the second book I have read by this author, and there are just some things that didn’t seem to flow. How they met, was a great meeting point, but just jumping into having sex, makes me think that the author just wanted to jump right into the sex scenes. The wording in some of the story just didn’t seem like what a college age person would talk like. The other thing that really bothered me is that Jackson broke up with Bailey for “fake dating” someone and not telling him about it, but he did the same thing with one of his teammate’s cousin, and never mentioned it to Bailey. I’m not sure if the author just forgot about that scene in the story, or if it was okay for him to do it and not her. There are just somethings that don’t seem to jive with the whole story. I am honestly and voluntarily reviewing an ARC of this book.

It started as a prank. The football player kidnapping the cheerleader of a rival team. But it turned out to be so much more.

Jackson is a smart, good person who is wearing a mask of a jerk playboy. Bailey is just trying to find a place to belong. They have a connection but a relationship between the two is forbidden. Rival teams don't mesh. But they can't stop what's building up between themselves... even if it must be in secret.

Good story with likeable characters.  There hot sexy scenes and awwww worth moments. A sweet story about finding love and sacrificing what you know for what can be.

I received this book as an advanced reader's copy and voluntarily am leaving my honest review and recommendation.

This was an okay read. I thought the premise of the story sounded really interesting and intriguing but when I started reading it, it just didn't match up as much as I expected or wanted it to. It's not a bad story by any means. It still had fairly interesting characters and the story line was still fairly interesting. The story flowed okay. I just didn't connect to the characters as much and things just didn't feel as real/believable for them. The sex was fairly explicit. It wasn't over the top or anything. There's definitely room for improvement but it was still an okay read. I definitely think the potential is there. I just didn't connect to the characters or was really drawn into the story.

Jockstrapped is a promising first book from new author, Johanna Hawke. Bailey, an older college freshman, and her suite mate, Ray, decide to try out for the cheerleading squad. After making the team, Bailey is "kidnapped" by the quarterback of the rival school's football team as a prank. Insta-love, secrets, rivalries, and traditions abound. Ultimately, this is a story about being yourself despite what anyone else thinks.
Although this is an interesting premise, the characters needed more development and the dialogue needed to be more believable. All in all, Jockstrapped is a great first effort by newcomer, Johanna Hawke.

I liked this book, but I wish their relationship would have moved a little slower. I liked that they met the way they did, it was original, but falling into bed that same night seemed a little ridiculous. I did enjoy how they got to know each other after that and fought to be together; especially with all of the crazy school rules. It really frustrated me how she kept a pretty big secret from him, when they both had been honest with one another about everything else. Overall, it was a good book, I personally wish that some aspects were slowed down and delved into a little more. I would recommend this book.

While Johanna Hawke isn't quite a one click, don't even read the blurb author for me yet, she's workin on it. I've read both her books and with each, you can watch her editing and her writing get better.

I enjoyed Jockstrapped very much. It even brought a tear to my eyes once in a while. I loved watching the characters mature and fall in love. You know it's a pretty good book when you're still wondering what happened to the characters after you finish the book. Did they stay in love, where did they end up after college, an epilogue would have really made this book.

Rivalry is what’s between their teams, and when the starting quarterback kidnaps one of the rival teams cheerleaders as a prank things get messy!!! Jackson and Bailey share more than just insults that night that starts the forbidden relationship. Bailey is forced to date the quarterback on her team and the web of secrets gets thicker as the story progresses until those secrets come out. Can these two rivals it aside their differences and forge an alliance or will they stay dedicated to their schools.

Fast paced LOVED IT

Jacks and Bailey are two characters that make fairytales look shy. A love so fast so strong can defy any traditions a rivalry that brings two people together in a way that had me tearing up at moments and smiling so wide my cheek hurt. A quick trip in book world on a lonely day when reality is not so nice to you is right where this book should be to bring back hope of love in this world where tradition can be harsh to young lovers. Thank you for the arc. This book is definitely one that will stay with me for a long while.

Once I got past the title...

They say never judge a book by it's cover. Maybe that should also say never judge it by it's title either. I will admit that if I had been searching for something new and came across this book, I wouldn't have picked it. One look at the title and I wouldn't have even bothered reading the blurb. Which would have been a shame. Once I got past the title(which I still don't like), the actual story was a nice read. Like I said never judge by the name alone...

An interesting and intriguing romance. Jackson was a rival college's quarterback. Bailey was a cheerleader. When a hazing of sorts takes place Jackson kidnaps Baliey and when taking her back to his dorm a insta love chemistry is ignited between the two. This is forbidden and when her schhol's quarterback picks her to be his girlfriend it entails forbidden drama as Bailey and Jackson have to sneak around. It ends in a HFN. I will be looking for more from this author. I voluntarily reviewed this ARC.

3.5*

I am obviously not in the intended target group as I failed to connect to either Jackson or Bailey, and I've never understood the obsession with cheerleading and pep rallies....sorry, I'm a Brit!

However, the book is well written, well paced, and I like the author's style.....it's the theme of the book that is not to my taste....and the age of the main characters.

I don't normally read “new adult contemporary romance” but I'm delighted I accepted this ARC. The story is a fun, steamy, romantic read with wonderful characters. The only thing I disliked was Bailey agreeing to a forced boyfriend and hiding it from Jackson. If you enjoy a good romantic story you must grab this book. “Jockstrapped” is well worth your time.

Ah, young love... like a blast from the past

Jockstrapped by Johanna Hawke is a coming of age novel with a satisfying HFN/HEA.
Bailey and Jackson are the meant to be couple. I liked them individually and adored them together. They share life experience similarities and over time learn each other.
Overall a fun young love story with an interesting beginning and plenty of chemistry throughout.

3.5 stars. I liked the premise of the story, the quarterback and a cheerleader from rival schools coming together. However, a lot felt more high school to me rather than college. Bailey and Jackson were smart and I didn't think either of them go along with a lot of what they did, it didn't fit their personalities - a lot of that is what made it feel like I was reading about teens in high school rather than 20somethings in college. I really enjoyed Jackson's family and Ray.

This story features Jackson and Bailey. This is a highly entertaining college romance. It’s sweet and steamy with great characters. The flow was smooth and the story line was lighthearted. Nothing too serious but still a feel good, young adult romance.

This is my first book by this author and I would definitely read more. The only thing I was looking forward to and there was none, was an epilogue. I like to see that near or far glimpse into the characters future.

In the end the characters do show growth, the road to get there has a few immature bumps which I guess can be expected for college-aged characters. I was really shocked at the actions of Bailey mainly because of the exact reasons Jackson said to her. The college rivalry antics made me glad that this is fiction, lol. This was at times, frustrating but their connection leaps off the pages.

A school prank turns into a relationship that has more than a few bumps along the way. Ms. Hawke pens an excellent story about being different in an environment where cookie cutter is expected. You will find yourself a tad exasperated at Bailey and Jackson's romance, especially as they attend rival schools but ultimately their love gives them the strength to fight for each other.

Surprisingly good!
That is quite a compliment for me as I NEVER read books about athletes. Don’t know why exactly, but this is my first. A prank that turns into much much more. The characters had more depth than I expected, and the story itself was well written. Definitely different.
