One of life's biggest clichs becomes a horrific reality when Douglas Segal's wife and daughter are hit head-on by a Los Angeles city bus. Following the accident, Segal began sending regular email updates to their circle of friends and family, a list that continued to grow as others heard of the event and were moved by the many emotional and spiritual issues it raised. Alternatingly harrowing, humorous, heartbreaking, and hopeful, Segal's memoir is an intimate and honest chronicle built around these email updates, and is a profound example of how people show up for one another in times of crisis. It is ultimately uplifting--a tribute to how love, determination, and the compassion of community all hold the power to heal, while also serving as an inspiring testament to the resilience of the human spirit when faced with pain and adversity.
I met Susan online in a group I used to attend. I found out about this book, although I never knew it was about a terrible accident that she was in. Needless to say her husband, who wrote the book, had an amazing, heartwarming story of recovery to tell. His pages at the end where he sums up all the emotions they went through, the support they received from their friends and community, touched my heart. It's truly a story of love and devotion.
Riveting story of tragedy, love, hope, and recovery. This true story, written by the husband of the main character who was 'run over by a bus' was fascinating, fast-paced and moving. It boosted my faith in my fellow humans and reminded me how community, family and faith contribute to healing after a horrendous accident.
I cannot recommend this book enough, & wish that the author had more books available.
Please read it...it will do wonders for your soul.
I enjoyed the book that tells the story for a family that's Wife and Mom was struck by a bus. She had so many broken bones, brain injuries that it was doubtful she would survive. Her husband was by her side through her miraculous recovery and writes a good book about it all.
I could not put this book down.It is so well written.God bless the author and God bless this family. Thank you for sharing this book .I can never imagine the pain and suffering this family had to endure. The love they have and the support from family and friends. Maybe God did play a role in this also. God bless this family.
An unbelievable recovery , a story of persistence and strength
A bit self serving. We should of read more from her perspective than his.more about how the entire fami!y coped rather than he. There is a consistent presence of her strength but I didn't feel her obvious pain , uncomfortable Ness or suffering.
A husbands retelling of his wife’s horrific accident when she’s hit head on by a bus. Written using his posts to keep friends and family abreast of her condition.
An engaging, sometimes-intense, often-heartwarming story of a traumatic car accident and the grueling but ultimately successful recovery, this is a really story of family, devotion, community, and love. Truth time: I'm the book's editor, so you could call me biased. But I published it for a reason: I loved it.
