This is my third outing with Theresa Van Spankeren, and she continues to amaze me with her writing abilities. She manages to take her time and really let the situations, emotions, and consequences of actions simmer, without letting any of it drag on too long. And, much as I've said about her writing prior, she dives deep into her characters and brings you along for the ride. I loved the prologue, as it's been quite a while since I read the previous installment, and it brought me right back into the fold. A lot authors tend to believe that their readers will just binge their trilogies, series, etc, and therefore neglect to remind the reader of the earlier events in the stories, which takes away from the impact. But Theresa nailed this aspect. This particular book also rectified a few minor critiques I had with book 2, concerning Gregory and Marie, and went beyond what I thought could be done with those characters. And it also had plenty of other pleasant surprises that kept me hooked into the story. There was one twist that was sort of obvious, but it doesn't get revealed until the very end. This was done well by the author, because even though you could figure it out early on, she waited to confirm those suspicions, keeping you a bit unsure. This particular book also seemed to set the stage for some even bigger stakes (Pun intended) in the fourth book, which I also look forward to reading soon, too. Well done!

Five years after Juliana's betrayal, everyone is still reeling from the fallout. The Ka-Tet is fractured, and no one really wants to have anything to do with her. She left defenseless against foes, and isolated from everyone. This causes her to fall into a very deep depression that leads her to doing self-harm. Slowly progress is made toward her sorting everything out with the help of a friendly spirit, an old friend, and a new friend. As everything comes to light as to what exactly her powers are and that she isn't crazy, Gregory's obsessed spirit possesses the soul of his descendent and sets his sights on destroying Juliana. After thinking she had come to terms with everything from her past, she realizes that she hasn't dealt with most of it. Can she work through her past trauma to defeat Gregory once and for all? Will she be able to bring the Ka-Tet back together and prove her loyalty once and for all?

This was an excellent addition to this series. Julia struggles with some very deep feelings and the ramifications of not dealing with everything. While she doesn't choose wisely on how to deal with it, she finds help in her friends on how to deal with it all in a healthier way. I appreciated the insight into how damaged people sometimes choose to deal with their extreme feelings. We are all damaged in our own way, and this shows the importance of the power of forgiveness, true friendship, and not always believing what other say but to come to our own conclusions. Well done!! Looking forward to book 4!

This is yet another brilliant continuation of an already great story. It took nothing at all to fall back into the characters and these stories. This story is just as well written and interesting as the previous books. This author has really created such a fascinating world. I love how new it feels, even as the series progresses. Each book builds on the previous one and really adds a whole new level to the series. I would highly recommend this series to any fan of the genre!

A beautifully written dark fantasy that really surprised me! I loved the emotional depth and the way it explores the balance between good and evil. A bit slow at times, but the atmosphere and characters totally make up for it.

This was so good! This journey was so much fun to be on and I was so sad when it ended! This series was so good and I didn’t think it could get any better but it did! These characters and their stories grew on me and I couldn’t be any happier to have read and immersed myself into their world!

Between Darkness & Light is the third book in the War of Destiny series. This dark vampiric paranormal, fantasy story is unique and engaging. Theresa is great at storytelling and invites the reader in with cleverly woven threads. I said it before but I will say it again the characters are well written and have depth and meaning. Her world building is exceptionally crafted and cleverly built. The vivid narrative allows you to enjoy every facet of her storytelling. War of Destiny is a multi-layered and exciting series that I will be sad to see it go as I want more and more. Lots of action, intrigue, imagination and twist and turns will keep you glued to the pages.

Don't miss out on this epic tale. Get ready to devour this series.

Julia is still recovering after betraying her ka-tet, the remorse and guilt is plaguing them all and she has become tired of trying to explain what happened and why, but the others have also become tired of her trying, Matthew has left the group completely while the others are only just tolerating her presence in the house. She is still also worried about being yet again plagued by the visions of her dead husband and the voices who whisper things to her, she fears that they will return and the insanity and madness which led to her past betrayals will start again, the others just fear that she has already gone insane and that is why they are avoiding her.

One night their leader disappears and nobody realises until Julia tries one more time to approach him, but when she finds he has left, she turns to the only other person he would speak to, Matthew, who is as shocked to see Julia there as he is to hear that their leader had vanished. After excusing himself from the house of his new found friends, the Medici family, where Julia found him, they check where he and Matthew would usually be, when he is not there, this is where Julia realises that she is the only one who can track him and so she and Matthew agree, reluctantly on his part, to journey after their wayward leader and bring him back home, but like so many other things, this plan goes awry.

As the journey continues, Julia’s visitations begin again and Matthew is wary, however, as they talk more about the situation, they realise that there is something else going on around them and that they are just a small part of it, someone is trying to change the course of destiny, but who this is and why remain a mystery. Will they be able to find the missing member of their group and solve the mystery surrounding Julia and her future, or will they be too late to change any positive outcome? This is a fast paced fantasy which will suck you in and pull you along in a world where vampires and destiny meet head on, in a race to discover lost secrets and reveal truths which will be life changing, in a way that only a vampires life can be changed.

Julia has done the unthinkable. Plagued by voices and people only she can see, she betrays her ka-tet. Her family. Her friends. She left them and joined the Vampire King Valentino. They think that she's gone insane. She's teamed up with the enemy after all. So they shun her and barley speak to her. She fears the voices and ghosts and no one understands. While she tries to repair the friendships that she has torn through Samuel disappears. To find their resistance leader she must seek help from a fellow ka-tet member. The one that hates her the most. The one who moved out to get away from her. Matthew the fire vampire. Their bond used to be so strong. They were so close. But now that bond is all hostility. He will barley even speak to her. When Julia shows up and interrupts Matthew's new life he's created to distance himself from Julia it is unexpected, unwelcome, and extremely inhospitable. He won't let her try to explain. He wants nothing to do with her in any way. Along the way to find their leader enemies start to close in on Matthew and Julia. They realize that something isn't right and more is going on than what they thought. Something dark is happening. Something sinister. Something that is tampering with true destiny. They must find out who it is and what they want before it can destroy them and their whole ka-tet. Will Matthew finally let Julia speak and let her explain what really happened with Valentino? Will he set her ablaze and not think twice? Will she get through to him or will it be to late? And what about their leader?! Will Samuel be attacked in Rome and never make it out? Such a great set of books!! I wish there was more!! I could totally read a few more to this set easy!! If you haven't read this set I would recommend you do! It took me a minute to get into the first one as the author was building up the story, but once I was hooked I was hooked!!

Between Darkness and Light is Book 3 in the War of Destiny Series. Julia has been shunned by her Ka-tet since betraying them and aiding Valentino, King of the Vampires, in his efforts to destroy them. Her betrayal not only tore the Ka-tet apart but drove Mathew from the group. Julia feels extreme remorse over her betrayal and is attempting to repair her relationships with the Ka-tet but none of them, nor any vampire in the Resistance, trust her. With her already tenuous relationships with the Ka-tet Julia cannot bring herself to confide in them that the voices in her head told her to do it. They already think she is crazy and telling them that she hears voices and sees people that are not there will only cause more conflict.

When the Resistance Leader, Samuel, suddenly disappears Julia is forced to enlist Mathew’s help to find him. Mathew has created a new life for himself, so Julia’s sudden arrival is unwelcomed, but he reluctantly helps because of his friendship with Samuel. Before long, Julia and Mathew realize that there is something far more sinister at work and they must work together before it destroys them.

The author did an amazing job of building up the story from the second book. I loved reading to see how Julia dealt with the aftermath of her betrayal and what would become of the Ka-tet. I devoured the book as I read on to see what would become of Julia’s visions and the voices she heard. Was she really losing her grip on reality? Samuel was devastated by Julia’s betrayal, and it was destroying him. Samuel’s emotions were so real and raw that my heart ached for him, nearly bringing me to tears. How could he possibly ever forgive her when she threw him away so easily? This book was sensational, and a must read! I highly recommend!

Theresa Van is a wonderful storyteller. She write stories that keeps you emotionally involved right up until the end. Just like other two books, this book is also well written with great plot, characters, it is thought provoking and exciting. It was one of the best reads for me and it has this capability to take you to a journey that only a few books have. It's written in such a brilliant way that you must take a pause at moments and think, think about what is being said, think about the life of the main character.

This is so utterly beautiful that I fail to find words that can suitably elocute my experience. I felt that I was experiencing the characters, their pains and pangs, every touch and every nerve was real and felt. This novel will be a piece of luck for anyone with a long plane journey or beach holiday ahead. It is such a page-turner, entirely absorbing… magnificent. Delicate and moving, the novel takes hold and will not easily let you go. I’m not sure I will read a better novel this year … Enthrallingly told, beautifully written and so emotionally plangent. Theresa Van's writing and imagery are stunning.

I am exceedingly critical of bad writing styles, and not once did anything in this book irritate me. Perhaps because she is such a great writer, all of the characters are well developed and you find yourself wanting to know what happens with each of them.

Overall, a great book, good story, great character development/revelations and extremely fast paced. Can't wait to read the next part.

The most amazing part of the book is here . I just loved the content and everything written in this story. It beautifully completes the previous parts of the story.

The plot is a perfect setup which makes you more and more excited about reading it till the end.

The book takes the story to a different place. The place of betrayal, sadness, rudeness, aloofness and many more emotions.

Everyone is upset with Julia for what she had done . The betrayal caused by Julia lead to alot of deaths even of their own people.

Julia lost her most beloved person Adam. She misses him terribly but can't do anything. She has began to saw dreams and voices which confuses her even more.

Even matthew parted his ways after getting betrayed by Julia and barely talked to her. He crafted his own life in his own ways

By the time Julia and Matthew are forced to realise that maybe something isn't right and they have to look into it to save themselves from the real destruction.

So what do you think? Will they ever talk again ? Will they do anything to fight against their destruction ? What will be their smart move to save themselves???

These are the most interesting questions for this story. And you will find it once you start reading it.

I assure you it is the best book I read till now . This book is worth your time , money and energy . You are going to enjoy every bit of it.

Review:

👉 The title of the book is really so interesting to read. The cover is appealing and attractive as well.Writing style of the author is awesome.

👉This is the 3rd book of "War of Destiny" series. The content is awesome, the plot on vampires with a mixture of emotions, suspense and tints of thrill make it a masterpiece.

👉The book takes the story to a better place. The spot of disloyalty, trouble, discourteousness, detachedness and a lot more feelings.Everybody is angry with Julia for what she had done . The selling out brought about by Julia lead to alot of passings even of their own kin.Julia lost her most darling individual Adam. She misses him frightfully yet can't do anything. She has started to saw dreams and voices which confounds her significantly more.Indeed, even matthew separated his ways subsequent to getting deceived by Julia and scarcely conversed with her. He created his own life in his own specific mannersWhen Julia and Matthew are compelled to understand that perhaps something isn't right and they need to investigate it to save themselves from the genuine obliteration.

👉These are the most intriguing inquiries for this story.

After completely betraying the ones she loves to the Vampire King Valentino, Julia is ostracized and thought insane from apparitions only she could experience. While she tries hard to fix her broken relationships, a sudden disappearance forces her to seek help from a once close friend, and ka-tet member Matthew. His hostility towards her is apparent but the danger they are facing will force them to put their differences aside to figure out what is happening to Destiny Itself.
I loved this installment! This series just gets better and better and is able to build on itself so much! It was so emotional there were parts that had me in tears! A very realistic show of depression and what one needs to get through it. Julia is by far my favorite character and her struggles feel so real to me and so relatable. Spankeren did such a good job developing her characters and her world. I cannot say enough about this series! It's unique, gripping, emotional and creates a world you just get sucked into. I highly recommend it! I know I will be reading the next book ASAP!

Between Darkness & Light (War of Destiny #3) by Theresa Van Spankeren

This is another great read by the author. You will need to read the first two books before reading this. Between Darkness & Light is the third book in the War of Destiny Series. It follows Julia and Samuel on the journeys they face.

Julia now has to get everyone's trust and they're missing a part of the Ka-tet. Matthew has left because he can't stand to be around her. Can she get his help to earn the trust back from the others? The quote I chose for Julia is: “He does it so he doesn’t kill innocent mortals. Lane doesn’t know how to feed properly from humans. So he’s found a way to get around it.”

Samuel has driven Julia away and Matthew has gone with her. Can he fix the tension between them and get the team back together? When he finally opens up to Julia he tells her he's lost The trust of the others. The quote I chose for Samuel is: “The bond is two-way. Lane felt something for you, Julia, even if it was simply surprise and gratitude. It’s been so long since he felt anything positive about anyone, I’m sure. And because of that he doesn’t know what to think of you. He knows you’re different, that you won’t try to hurt him, but he’s too guarded to let himself get close. Friendship or even a teacher-pupil relationship takes a certain amount of trust, and you simply don’t have it.”

Highly recommended for Vampire Paranormal lovers.

The relationship between Julia and Samuel is so natural and undeniable that every look, every gesture counts, even though they both are fighting the entire way. I’m on the edge of my seat whenever they are near each other. Definitely rooting for the two to seal the deal again😭.

I had so much fun reading it and laughing out loud at some moments and gasping at all the new information and world building. Also the conversations that between Kali and Lane is absolutely wonderful, I love how they interact with each other I think this book was the perfect balance of exploring Matthew voice also, getting his funny inner monologue, learning more about the world, and getting more Matthew and julia moments (Platonic strictly). I always had a soft spot for him and I think he deserves way more attention than he actually gets. In this book, author decided to make the readers die simply by making a character suffer more than he deserves. Every time Samuel got hurt it definitely made me misty eyed through the book. Oh Gregory the great, I didn't expect this twist that you pulled. Character development is so good, I've high expectations on book 4 now. I'm already on my way through it! Lesse how it goes.

I wanted to share so much about this book, but I'm afraid that I'd give some spoilers😭😭, but this right here, THIS BOOK BROKE ME APART!

"Between Darkness & Night" is the third book in the "War of Destiny" series, and I recommend reading the books in order, as the story builds on the events of the previous installment.

Set five years after Julia's betrayal of her ka-tet to the Vampire King Valentino, she struggles to rebuild her relationships within the group. Although the betrayal was not entirely her fault, the ka-tet neither believe nor trust her and barely tolerate her presence. Guilt and shame lead Julia to self-harm, and she begins to see and hear her deceased, abusive husband, making her feel as though she is losing her sanity.

When Samuel, the leader of their ka-tet, goes missing, Julia turns to Matthew, the only person she knows who might have information about Samuel's whereabouts. Together, they use Julia's connection to Samuel to track him down, unaware of the reasons behind his departure.

As they journey from Florence to Rome, they are faced with threats from Hunters and other vampire factions, some aligned with Valentino and others from the Resistance, who distrust Julia. Throughout this journey, Matthew and Julia begin to break down the barriers between them to unravel the truth.

The novel features impressive world-building, character development, action, and political intrigue.

Imaginative and intriguing! This book is rich in world-building, It effectively spans a diverse fantasy world while presenting a thoughtful, intricate story. I read the first and second part and I still remember the whole story so you can imagine the love I have for this wonderful series.

An incredible fantasy series within which established fans of the genre will be totally absorbed, and for newcomers there would be no better place to start.

Don't miss this third installment in an epic fantasy series abounding with unexpected heroes, betrayal, magic, war and non-stop adventure. This series will continue to be enjoyed by her fans. A great continuation of the first and second part. Meeting the characters again and following their trials as the story unfolds is a worthy read. It’s well written, the storyline is well thought out and it has characters that you come to love, others you despise, others you fear. Unlike some series, I highly recommend starting with Book 1. It’s time well spent. This is a series that will draw you in, even though some say it takes quite a few chapters to get there. Once you land in this fantasy world, you will want to stay there for many uninterrupted hours.

Between Darkness & Light is the third book in the War of Destiny series by Theresa Van Spankeren. Julia has been through so much- and things aren’t about to settle down any time soon. Events have left her shunned and lonely. Is she losing her mind as others fear. Julia begins to wonder herself. She is forced to seek help from a former close colleague, who’s turned hostile towards her. With danger closing in and sinister agendas at play, the stakes are high, as the story takes a dramatic turn….
This is a fantastic series; each book builds on what came before, and I am well and truly hooked. A clever and intriguing paranormal saga, with vampires, action, adventure, wonderful atmospheric world building, danger, politics, agendas, unexpected developments, emotion, high stakes, and plenty of tension.
If you love an original take on vampire lore, paranormal elements, high stakes, and agendas- then you will want to dive into this book/series asap.
Can’t wait to see what Book #4 has in store for us!
Happy reading!

Thank you, Theresa Van Spankeren!

Again, amazing installment in the series! Seriously the series just keeps getting better and better. This author has had me hooked since the first book. I am too deep now, and I can not let go! I love how each one fascinates more as you read! A very amazing series I must say, impossible not to love and enjoy!

This one really appealed to me as it was the aftermath of the second book. We follow Julia and where she is at based on the decisions, she made in the second book. I felt for her at times, but she always amazes me in what she decides to do. She always comes out strong, even when she may appear at the lowest point. I devoured this one so easily. I loved the aftermath and the new adventure Julia had to undergo. There was never a dull moment, and the author really knows how to keep you hooked!

Amazing series that keeps on with hype it brings to the reader. Each book in the series catches my attention more and more! Love it so much! Highly recommend this must-read book! Truly!

🍷This is the third installment in the series and by far my most favourite read and I will tell you why, I really formed a very close relationship with the book because the characters felt way too real in this one, I felt like I personally know them and I was like wanted to give them so many advices from the other side of my kindle screen but sadly I couldn't, haha!
.
.
Being the thrid but there is a huge change in the language, or rather I would say there is a noticeable transformation where the author makes sure she serves the best for the reader in terms of writing as well the language it doesn't gets easier but it surely gets more interesting.
.
.
Honestly, this book made me angry about a few characters but it was interesting to see different sides of each of them. A book about trust and betrayal and beleiving the known and unknown in the worst times. It also has good amount of elements that scare you off.

Again, it's a book that might not be suitable for readers who are extremely sensitive but for me it was a very thrilling read with a lot of layers and can't wait to see how things would turn. Definitely recommended, make sure to check it out.

It's been five years since Julia made a horrible choice and betrayed those she loved the most. They aren't getting over it anytime too soon it seems but there are Hunters on the prowl and some of Valentino's minions moving in on them. If this group can't get it together, the ka-tet will fall apart and they will all lose their lives!!

Julia can't seem to apologize enough for what she has done. It's not until a young human comes and encourages Julia to do the hard things to see if she can get back in the good graces of her group. Will they accept her back? What about all these nighttime revelations she's having? These Hunters....they are haunting Julia too. So many questions and not a lot of time for answers!

I enjoyed this book and read it fairly quickly. This one contains a lot of action, more so than the first two books in this series. We learn more about Matthew's background, as well as Samuel's. I'm really hoping to learn more about Mary Anne's abilities....she's got something very special! I'm looking forward to the next book in this series!

Forgiveness? This book picks up five years after the events of book two and I am so glad I read Matthew’s story (An Ember of Hope book 2.5) before jumping into this one.
Julia had a lapse in judgement and is now dealing with the consequences of those actions. She betrayed Matthew and now she must find him. Expectedly it’s not a warm welcome, Matthew has built a new life for himself and now Julia, showing up, reignites some of the pain and hurt left by her betrayal.
Can Julia overcome her betrayal, better yet can those she hurt forgive her? Will they accept her back or shun her forever? I’m struggling to give a little but fear giving too much away. This one was intense as Julia struggles with the consequences of her actions and struggles to earn back what she lost. But will it ever be the same? Can things go back to how they were? I can’t wait to jump into book four Fallen Soul and discover what Julia, and the others will face next.

This was a good book that has you feeling a lot of different emotions as you read it. If you haven't already delved into this story it does speak on depression and self harm, so a small trigger warning to potential readers. I enjoyed the world building and felt like the characters also had great growth as the story progressed forward. This is the first book in this series I have read and while I didn't feel lost there were things talked about that happened in previous books. I therefore highly recommend reading the first two before diving head first into this story like I did. I will most likely be re-reading this after going back to read the first two. There are twist and turns that seems quite obvious and are easy to figure out but the author wrote them in such a way that you are unsure until she unravels what you have known all along. Overall I enjoyed the story and I plan on reading more from this author in the future.

Between Darkness & Light (War of Destiny Book 3) by Theresa Van Spankeren. This is the 3rd book in this series and its really good. Julia is back and her vampire family is shunning her due to things that happened in the previous book. She starts to hear things that no one else can hear so she really thinks she's losing her mind. When Simon comes up missing she has to enlist the help of Matthew from the Ka-tet family which is the family she betrayed. Julia asking for help is huge because she's never been good at that. During all this time Julia is feeling very alone and then on top of everything else Hunter's arrive. Julia knows something very dark is happening all around and she is terrified. Julia feels like she knows the Hunters and that makes her feel even more crazy. Will Julia survive the whole ordeal or will this be the end for her. Read this fast paced paranormal book!

I'll start off by saying that I did not read the first books in the series, however I stick found it enjoyable. The main character Julia gives a recap in the beginning of her past, that helped slightly but once I got into the story I got the gist of things. Julia is dealing with the consequences of her betrayal of her Ka-tet. It's like a bonded group of Vampires. She feels herself losing her mind all the while yearning to fix things between her and her friends. But honestly some betrayals are just too much to forgive. The fear of her apparitions returning and ruining her life again, has her seeking aid from Mathew who at first is very reluctant to be near her again but eventually realizes that something more sinister is happening .
The author has constructed an amazing world lore around Vampires and I think most will enjoy it.

I enjoyed this paranormal story. This is the third book in this series which I highly suggest reading the previous books to help your enjoyment of this series. Julia is back in another fantasy, adventure full story. I enjoy her character and what she brings to the story. She is connectable, strong and supportive which makes it easy to read the story. She is now faced with repairing relationships and having to ask for help. This is where Matthew enters the story. They both are determined to find out why destiny is being altered and who is behind it. I enjoyed their chemistry which added to the story. This is an entertaining story that is hard to put down. I can’t wait to see what happens next. I highly recommend this book.

I enjoyed the first two books of this series immensely. This one is written so differently than the previous two but once again is a masterpiece.

Julia and her relationship with the Ka-tet is shattered after she betrayed them in the previous book. Especially her relationship with Matthew. She is basically disowned by him. Matthew has moved away from the others and started a new life on his own. When Julia’s leader disappears suddenly, she seeks out Matthew to help.

The author once again built an amazing world and the people within. Even though this book was significantly different, it still had me in a vice and I had to finish it! I enjoyed ‘watching’ Julia deal with the consequences and her feelings towards everything that has happened.

Between Darkness & Light (War of Destiny Book 3) by Theresa Van Spankeren

Between Darkness & Light is the third book in the War of Destiny series. This is a Paranormal Fantasy that I truly enjoyed reading. This is a fast paced story that once you start reading its really hard to put down. I highly recommend reading the first two books if you haven’t already started them as they are just as good as this one. Julia is back and tales us on quite the adventure .She finds herself having to ask for help with repairing relationships. Her and Matthew are determined to figure out who is behind Destiny being altered? Can they figure it out? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

I continue to be surprised by this series it is truly fabulous. I recommend reading this series in order for sure to get the backstory and book #3 picks up where book #2 ends.

There is so many emotions when in this story....just gut punching sadness. Julia's betrayal....there is definite unrest and anger..people lost their lives. When someone comes up missing, Julia must dig deep and get help from Matthew..but it is not easy to ask for help especially due to her betrayal. As the pieces begin to unravel....Julia and Matthew realize there is something more dark happening.

This author's does such a fantastic job in the storytelling of this series. This book really punches so much emotion and phenomenal word building....I cannot want to see what is more in store in this series.

The first two books in the series give us the backstory of Julia, a human girl who is eventually turned into a vampire. Her story continues to evolve as she meets many friends and foes, while learning to cope with her new lifestyle. Over the last few decades, Julia has learned a lot about humanity and vampires. The things she thought she knew have been all but disproven as she has grown to learn more about herself, despite how painful that journey of discovery was for her and the ones closest to her.

Will Julia be able to fix the wrongs of her past? Will the resistance ever accept her back and help her finish the battle she agreed to take on in the first book? This was a wonderful read and I was very pleased to learn that there is a fourth book. I'm looking forward to reading it so that I'm able to continue this journey with the characters I've grown to think of as friends.
