There is hope, but first one must find it. Jon Ryan has saved humanity time and again. But he is called upon by fate to once again defend his species. As he prepares for a horrific war with the vicious and ruthless Berrillians, a new, more existential threat arises. A mythical race know as the Last Nightmare enters our universe, intent of destroying it. They have consumed twelve universes in the infinite past they've lived. So far, no force has been able to even slow their conquest. The annihilation of everything looks to be a certainty.
As the last hope to combat the indomitable threat, an impossible alliance must be forged between old friends and bitter enemies. Every civilization realizes that defeat is so certain that only such a cooperation might stop the Nightmare. Humans are gifted the fantastic technologies to walk among the stars to help in the fight. To be so close to a magical era for humanity yet so likely to perish is a crushing weight. Can Jon pull one more miracle out of his hat?
Jon has met and won many insurmountable challenges. But he faces one he never expected and seems unable to master. All the fighting, all the death, and all the suffering are changing him. He's growing darker and less human with each passing crisis. Will he become the emotionless machine he is housed in?
The dark forces of The Berrillians are relentless. Having lost the technological war to The Alliance, they revert to guerrilla tactics. They threaten to terrorize the galaxy into submission. It's a game they are very good at. With no relief in sight, humanity turns once again to a weary Jon Ryan for answers. He develops a plan, but if it succeeds it's brutality threatens to push him over the edge. Jon must answer the question as to whether survival is worth his soul?

Dr. Craig A. Robertson is a physician and the author of more than forty-five published science fiction novels. Getting there, however, was anything but a typical path.
His first life was that of a shoe salesman. This "profession" helped him to work his way through college. His first experience was at Kinney Shoes. leveling up to Sears, and eventually became a shoe manager at Montgomery Ward. All three companies later went bankrupt. Not. His. Fault. But he did meet his wife, Karen, at Sears, which made working there most rewarding.
His second life embraced the physical sciences. A childhood fascination with astronomy led him to UC Berkeley. However, he eventually switched to geophysics after realizing that astronomers spent an inordinate amount of time alone on cold, remote mountaintops. Somewhere along the way, physical science gave way to his true passion: medicine.
For his third life he
became a doctor. Medical school and residency were like being sentenced to an abusive gulag, but they provided two lasting benefits. First, he learned that nothing he encountered afterward would ever be harder. Second—and rather more importantly—he got to be a doctor.
His career began in academic medicine, when he became a professor of Emergency Medicine at a Level One Trauma Center. That was followed by yet another incarnation, this time as a research immunologist at UC Davis, where his work included a cloned antibody directed against human melanoma cells and research into primary biliary cirrhosis.
Eventually, Craig settled into the life of a practicing physician. But somewhere among patients, science, family, and all those previous incarnations, another life crept onto the scene.
He became a science fiction writer.
More than forty-five novels later, Craig spends a psychiatrically questionable amount of time destroying planets, rebuilding civilizations, tormenting his delicious evil villains, and making Jon Ryan traverse the universe ... forever.
It seems doubtful, given his past inclinations, that seven lives will be enough for Craig A. Robertson.

This was great. Humanity is saved and in a better place in the universe than they could ever imagined. Fighting a universe wide threat and then a more localized threat with the cunning and humor of the great Jon Ryan. Everything ends up hunky dory. I look forward to the continuation in Galaxy On Fire.

Great finale to The Forever. SO much happens in this series that sometimes I have sat in amazment when details from far earlier in the series was talked about, and wondered WHAT? Was that in this book?
It changes and evolves incredible fast - in the good sense of that statement. I love it.

Loved the remainder of the series but just found the ending REALLY weak and anti climatic!

good read
I enjoyed this series it was an easy read. It had some good funny points and drama. Not extremely deep but well written. I would recommend it as a read.
