To hell and back . . .

Though he has vampire, demon, and Viking blood rushing through his veins, Ivar Kjeidsen’s soul-crushing trip to hell broke him in ways he can barely fathom.  One vow keeps the deadly immortal To rescue the vampire brother who had sacrificed freedom for him.  To do that, Ivar needs the help of a brilliant physicist with wary brown eyes, fierce brilliance, and skin that's way too soft.

Dr. Promise Williams understands the underpinnings of the universe but has never figured out the human beings inhabiting it.   Her function is to think—and not feel—until she’s touched by a vampire who’s nowhere near human. The primal hunger in his eyes awakens feelings in her that defy calculation. As she shows him the way to step between worlds, he brands her with a pleasure that could last more than a lifetime . . .

5 Doing the math Stars

Anyone who knows me even a little, knows I'm a crazy Rebecca Zanetti Fan-girl. Dark Protectors is one of my top 5 favorite series ever. So every time I get a DP book I'm in heaven. In the years I have been reading her work, Rebecca has yet to let me down. Alpha's Promise was an awesome read. I loved Ivar and Promise together. I love the world and I really love all the old couples and past favorites popping in and out of the stories. I have mini fan-girl attacks every time. It's like coming home.

Ivar has been through hell... literally. It left him more beast than man. Holding onto his sanity by a thin thread. He made a promise to a brother and he planned on keeping it, even if it killed him. I loved how loyal Ivar was. He had suffered so much. I was glad that he got his HEA. Promise was a super smart physicist that didn't understand emotions. She was raised in a cold, sterile home with two parents that didn't show love or affection. Science, Math, facts, they were her friends and her way of life. Then Ivar crashed into her life filling it emotions, love, and passion. I loved that they both were so different, but went together very well. They also accepted each other fully.

The continuation of the ongoing plot was really good. I found myself freaking out, wondering how they're going to save the world and Quade. I loved the Hope,Pax, and Drake story line and I really felt bad for Pax. Can someone please step in and take him away from his pos dad? Maybe give his dad a little of what he gives to Pax. The parts with Kane, Dage, Emma, Zane, Janie, and the kids omg Sooooooooooo good. I need more of that. A lot more. Like were was Talen???? I love me some Talen and I got none in this book!! None! Just sayin'. Everything is better with Talen. Although Garrett is like a mini Talen. I can't wait for Garrett to get his story. Also, really like what's going on with Adare and Grace, can't wait to see what happens with them. Great story, I'm so excited for the next one!

Alpha’s Promise by Rebecca Zanetti

Book 10 in the Dark Protectors series. It can be read as a standalone romance but because of the overall arc, it’s best to have read at least a couple of the preceding books.

Math and equations are Promise’s live. Drawn into the demon hybrid lives, her mind is scrambling to figure out inter-dimensional traveling. She’s in her element and Ivar can’t help watching her work. He’s enthralled and falling in love.

A quick ending that keeps Ivar and Promise together and in love but leaves others hanging. A cliffhanger in the overall arc that felt unsatisfying.
I generally love this author’s writing but this fell flat in the ending of this couples story. Up until the last two chapters I was all in. Now I want to know what happens with others including Quade.

Excerpt:
“Yes.” She tried to sound conciliatory instead of commanding, but it was difficult. “I have to see what’s happening.” She needed to feel what was happening. This ability of hers, the one dealing with teleporters, enhanced her theories so well. “You don’t have a choice.”
His smile provided more warning than an outlandish neon sign. “You don’t want to use phrases like that with me, Professor.”
She shivered and failed to conceal it. “Is it just me, or are your possessiveness and authoritarian tendencies progressing to the point of being tyrannical?”
His eyebrows lifted. “Perhaps you’re just starting to notice.”
How irksome.”

5 - "I'll come back to you..." Stars!

We return to the Dark Protectors universe for book ten in the series, Alpha’s Promise gives us Ivar Kjeidsen’s story. This Vampire/Demon hybrid has literally been to hell and back, so he is not the friendliest of people on first introduction.

"People call me ‘Viking’ or ‘Vike’… You can call me anything you want."

I’ll be upfront and say I was on the fence when Rebecca announced she would be writing more books in this series, because I was happy where things had been left at the end of the original story-arc, and wasn’t sure there was anything more that could really be added, but I’m happy to admit I was wrong, and although Ronan’s book left me wondering if we were just going to get the same tropes as previously used recycled into a different story-line, but things have really amped up with Logan and now Ivar’s books, and I love that although questions are being answered in each instalment, new ones are being raised as well, it keeps you on your toes and interested in what’s going on.

"She’s a keeper…"

I really liked Dr. Promise Williams as well, which in itself was a nice change, because it’s usually Zanetti’s heroines that leave me rolling my eyes, but she was quirky and spunky, without the expected arrogance some of them seem to have picked up in recent years. She reminded me of a female Dr. Spock as well with her blunt language and unwavering focus on things, and I liked her pairing with Ivar.

He was the epitome of alpha male… For the first time in her life, she understood the appeal.

Plenty of plot twists, imaginative locations, and page time with the rest to the Kayrs-Kyllwood clan. Hope’s story-line moves along in this one as well, and I am looking forward to seeing which direction Rebecca takes next with Quade and Haven's book; Hero’s Haven. Sadly it’s not due for release until January 2020, so we have a bit of a wait for it :(

"You came for me…"

"…I’ll always come for you."

I can't get enough of these hybrids!! I'm constantly wooed and charmed and swooning with their stories. I was practically salivating for Ivar's story after his arduous trip to see Quade, wanting to know how this sweet soul would end up, and Rebecca Zanetti DID NOT disappoint. Welcome to my harem, big boy!

Ivar is desperate to get back to Quade, to relieve him of his duty - keeping Ulric in. But to get there, he needs the help of a talented physicist to plot his way. That's where Promise comes in. She's at the top of her field and just who they're looking for. Unfortunately, they're not the only ones after her. There's more talk of bubble worlds and the consequences when a bubble pops. What will happen to Quade? And am I the only one shipping him with the new hybrid introduced? With a lot of maneuvering, battle scenes, and a trip into love, this story was as stellar as I wanted it to be.

I loved the way that Ivar and Promise met. It was unique, to say the least. Their relationship was slow building, but once it picked up speed, it was flaming hot. Their connection went beyond the physical and I loved seeing these two intellectuals meet their match. I'm further intrigued by the side stories, especially with what's happening with Hope and Drake, and I wonder when I'll finally see the big picture. Also, I'd really like to adopt Paxton! The finale seems so far away, not that I'm complaining... I'm enjoying the heck out of this journey.

I love Zanetti's alpha vamps, I really do and Ivar is no exception given that there's a whole dollop of Viking thrown in. However, I struggled to connect with Promise. I get that she's socially stunted, with the cold and closed off parents she had that's no surprise. But, and I think this is where Promise was let down, there was so much scientific/mathematical info thrown in on repeat that the character building was totally lost to this info dump and I didn't get to know her as a character at all. She was cold and clinical in her approach to her life, her job and her (non) relationships so when the "melt" for Ivar struck I coudln't really believe it, you know?

I read for the romance, the build up of their connection, seeing them fall for each other, fighting to get to where they need to be and FEELING their feels. I'm sorry to say I didn't really get that whilst reading Alpha's Promise.

I loved the catch up with the other characters, and so want to see Adare and Grace admit to their feelings for each other so will definitely continue with the series. Sadly this one didn't blow me away.

5 stars for Ivar, 2 for the story that got lost in the info dump and 2 for Promise so calling this one 3.5 stars.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

3 3/4 "Physicist, Dimensions and Wormholes. Oh my!" Stars!

I liked this one a lot. I'd been looking forward to Ivar's story since I turned the last page on the previous book. I wasn't disappointed, but admittedly this didn't go how I expected. Promise and Ivar were both good main characters.

I do feel like the story got bogged down a little bit with scientific lingo and such. But! I loved this series and I'm looking forward to who's next. I don't know if I want Garrett or Quade more. Happy reading!

Rebecca Zanetti expands her Dark Protectors series to other worlds with Alpha’s Promise a tale of vampire-demon hybrid who’s been to a hellish world and now needs help of a human physicist prodigy to get back.

Ivan Kjeidsen vowed to rescue his vampire brother from the hellish world he’s trapped in. Having witnessed its harshness himself and knowing he’s running out of time, Ivan must find a way to convince her to help him and that there is more to the world in which she lives in.

Dr. Promise Williams has been trained to think logically, mathematically without feelings from infancy, but seeing the raw and primitive desire in Ivan’s penetrating stare makes her feel things that can’t be described by formulas. As they work together to find a way to shift between worlds, the emotions that ignite between them are strong enough to endure eternity.

Do you love strong, smart and independent heroines? How about sexy, stubborn and determined alpha males? What about an addicting plot filled with action, sexiness and beloved characters from past books? If you answered yes to any or all of these, then Alpha’s Promise is the paranormal romance book for you.

The banter between Ivan and Promise was phenomenal. Ivan the Viking, gave off a very primal vibe, which of course was completely accurate. But he was also super smart and caring, perfect for Promise.

The overall arc continues with more outstanding world building. I was totally geeking out with all the math and physics pertaining to trans-dimensional travel jargon. The story intensifies with both good and bad guys racing to save their own, making this another exciting and sexy read with a hint of humor and a lot of feels that will hook you from beginning to end.

But the story would definitely not be complete without the charming characters from past books who we (all of us Dark Protector fans) have loved throughout the series including mates and little ones who add a wonderful layer.

Alpha's Promise is book #10 of the Dark Protectors series by Rebecca Zanetti. It is a standalone, paranormal romance, told from several points of view, and has a happy ending.

Ivar the Viking was thrown through a vortex and suffered hideously as he leapt through unimaginable hell worlds only to find his lost 'brother' Quade and be forced to leave him behind. Ivar is forever changed by his ordeal but has vowed to return and somehow save Quade before the world he is trapped on collides with another. There's a chance that a truly gifted physics professor could solve the equations but their Kurjan enemies are killing any that seem likely to find the answer. Is it possible that Promise is the one who can finally figure out a way ? First of all though the Seven need to convince her to help and it looks like Ivar has most definitely got on the wrong side of her or has he ?
I liked that the author put two very damaged characters together and then let them somehow find out that trust could turn into love. Ivar is initially discombobulated in so many ways and yet downplays his inner violence to become that which Promise can be comfortable around. Promise might not immediately appeal to some readers as she's emotionally stunted but it's clear her upbringing has moulded her into who she is. Promise trusts science as its solid and never lets her down but in doing so she cuts herself off from life and what it means to live. I did find initially that she came across as cold and disconnected but this journey the couple embark on is a twisting one with a very satisfying conclusion. Perhaps not a soft, dewey romance but nevertheless it seemed appropriate for Ivar and Promise.
I think for me as much as I'm enjoying learning about the Seven and their purpose its being back within the Realm with its Vampires, Demons, Fae, Witches and Shifters that I love. For this reader the second half of the book was definitely my favourite part with old friends appearing and I particularly enjoyed the inclusion of the next generation of Dark Protectors as I'm left with so many questions about what is still to come. I will admit there is no clear resolution as this book draws to a close and we are left in many ways with absolutely no progression in terms of the Seven and their fight with the Kurjans . However I did enjoy this story and look forward to what is still to come.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair.

I don't know how this author does it. With every book I read in this series the more hyped I get for the next one. I can't wait to learn everything and yet I don't want it to be over. This has been one of those rare series that just keeps getting better and more entertaining.

Alpha's Promise is Ivar and Promise's story. These two were such an odd couple and I loved them. Promise is a mathematical genius. She's the typical smart person who struggles socially.

Ivan has lost most of the human side of himself when he was stuck in hell dimensions and also struggles socially. You would think these two would be a disaster together but they just worked.

I'm so excited about the new character that got introduced in this book. So many promising things to come and I can't wait!

Series Review: Fun, fast paced PNR series. Great storyline, characters and suspense. Insta-love, mates for life, possessive Alphas and grotesque evil foes. There are Vampires, Shifters, witches, Demons and more. This is a continued storyline focusing on a different couple per book.

I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. I want to thank Lyrical Press, Rebecca Zanetti, and Goodreads for this kindle e-book version. Here is my honest review.

While this book is the tenth in the series, it worked for me as a stand alone novel. It has a little bit of everything. It is an action and adventure, paranormal romance and romantic suspense story all in one. It includes demons, vampires, steamy romance scenes, hybrids, fae, a brilliant physicist, social ineptness, humor, Kurjan enemies, other dimensions, murder, kidnappings, brotherhood, vows, the expected alpha males, and so much more.

The plot was engrossing, fast-paced, action-packed, and entertaining. The characters gained more depth as the story progressed. The world-building was intriguing and very visual. The ending was satisfying and intense. I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys this genre.

The Dark Protector series just keeps getting better and better! In the latest installment, the crazy, tortured, vampire-demon, Viking, Ivar finally gets his well deserved happily ever after with the delightfully cerebral Dr. Promise Williams. As always, I was engrossed by Ms. Zanetti’s ability to weave an intricate world of vampires, demons, hybrids and more! The Dark Protector series becomes more elaborate with complex worldbuilding and multilayered plots, but the humor, heart, and steam in each book stay the same. That is why she is one of my favorite authors.

Ivar and Promise were difficult characters. Ivar slowly changed throughout the book because he was still healing from the hell dimension. Promise was so smart and detached, especially at the beginning, she gave ice queen vibes, Ms. Zanetti, of course, showed her true heart by the end of the book, but it took a while for me to really invest in her character. While I didn’t relate to them personally, I did empathize with them. Both were a little detached from the “real” world, which made their romance that much more believable. Two outsiders finding each other. In many ways, their completely unique characteristics made their story richer; I loved them despite not relating to them.

The only thing that took me out of the book just a little bit was the science! Don’t get me wrong, I love that Rebecca Zanetti has strong, intelligent heroines in STEM, but I’m not a science person, and I had a hard time not skimming the math and science parts.

While this is probably not the book I would recommend new-to-the-series folks to jump in on, it was a great stepping stone to the next few books. I am basically rubbing my hands together in anticipation of Adare’s story and a few other characters that I won’t mention because ~spoilers~.

Overall, this was a fast-paced, fun, and sexy paranormal romance. Ms. Zanetti never disappoints, and fans of this series will go crazy over the revelations in this book.

“When I give my heart, it’s once only, and it’s for you.”

This author can do no wrong! I loved the latest in her Dark Protectors series. Ivar and Promise were one of the strongest couples she’s introduced so far and there is still so many others to explore (I’m looking at you Grace & Adare and Haven & Quade!) that I can’t wait for :)

Being an introvert myself, I relate to those same characteristics when it comes to the heroine/hero of a book. Promise is basically the poster girl of nerdy, socially awkward and introverted. Needless to say I loved her.

When Ivar not only accepts her quirky traits but loved them and her unconditionally, well it wasn’t hard to fall insta-love with him either. Granted he’s also a freaking Viking warrior so he has the big protective alpha thing going for him *sigh* and it doesn’t hurt that he is totally on the same wave length with Promise, on every level.

Throw in some action, some danger, off the charts chemistry, humor, romance and a sprinkle of angst and this book was another hit.

Definitely read the books in order as this does have an ongoing plot and recurring characters from previous books making an appearance that can get complicated if you’re not familiar with the basics. I started from Book #8 (this introduces The Seven for the first time) and I was able to jump right in without feeling too out of sorts.

Favorite Line(s):
She meant more than he could say. The woman was both cerebral and physical, and they were perfect together.

Even though she had a gigantic brain, her heart was even bigger.

Memorable Moments:
• Ivar giving Promise a nickname! They were both so cute about it, lol!
• Meeting Haven (oh the possibilities!)
• Pretty much any time Adare and Grace were in the same room together! (I need their story ASAP!)

Would I recommend? I love the Seven so I would definitely recommend! If you like Kresley Cole’s IAD series, this has the same feel to it. Great paranormal world with multi dimensions, magic and an intertwining storyline that connects several key players. The author definitely knows how to tease you and leave you wanting more.

Ivar, a Viking, was searching for his missing brother when he got stuck in a horrible hell realm. When he finally finds his brother, he must leave him behind. Vowing to come back and save his brother, Quade, Ivar discovers a human professor that is so close to solving the unimaginable…the mathematics to jump dimensions. But the enemies of Dark Protectors are killing all the scientist that are close to solving the dimension hoping equation. Not only do they have to convince Promise, the professor, to help them solve the equation, they also need to save her from their enemies.

I always count it a great day when I get to crack open a Rebecca Zanetti book. Thrust into a world of vampires, shifters and witches of Zanetti’s imagination was utterly delightful…if you can call an action packed, pulse pounding, adventure with two damaged individual falling in love in an intense situation…yeah, delightfully awesome!

Alpha's Promise by Rebecca Zanetti
Genres: Adult, Humor, Mystery, Paranormal, Romance, Suspense.
4.85 Stars.

I just broke my rule of only doing quarter stars! Here is why.
The only problem I found with the entire story was 3 typos. And yes, I am mean enough to deduct some points off for that. But this was a 5⭐read for me. So I deducted .05 points for each typo I found. I think that was fair.

This one goes to my #1 favorite of this series. It has Everything I love in a great read. Two great main characters. Ivar and Promise were both FanFreakingTastic to read about. They had humor and steam in their interactions with each other. Their connection was topnotch.

There is plenty of mystery, action, suspense, and romance throughout the entire story. Great fight scenes and plenty of action.

I highly recommend this series to lovers of PNR that want steamy adult scenes and lots of action/suspense.

I simply can't get enough of this series. This world that Rebecca Zanetti has created is like a faraway land of everything that's awesome. Every character is strong, important and vibrant.
Every hero is loyal from the start. She doesn't bog down or fill the pages with annoying other people drama (you know clinging exes, other women drama, those things?), no, she gives passion, suspense , action and most of all an epic love story every time.
Ivar "Viking" is true to his name. Pure strength, utter loyalty and completely alpha. Oh this guy really took me away. Promise was adorably scientific. She had a way that almost leaved towards autistic. Like getting lost in numbers like binging on Netflix for us. Brilliant heroines, strong and independent. That's the way for Rebecca and that's why I love her stories so dang much. 💞
I simply know that so far this is my #TopFav series in paranormal romance. I can't wait for more each time.
I need to know what's up with Haven and Quade.. Please gimme now! 💞

Alpha's Promise is the continuation of the Dark Protectors series. I have to say I am really loving where Rebecca Zanetti is taking this series. At first I was apprehensive but boy is she kicking it up a notch in the paranormal realms of romance. And to be honest I almost put this down at first because I wasn't a fan for how this book began at all. The chemistry between our main pair here, seemed off to me and I wondered if I would feel the same but thankfully it turned out to be a superb read here and I was cheering them both on in the end.

Alpha's Promise is a story that begins with a doctor, Dr. Promise Williams who is expertise is in the sciences and more specifically "physics" but now their enemy have targeted her and she is in danger. So Ivar, is to protect her from danger but at first he almost kidnaps her. And that doesn't go to well for him despite his paranormal abilities. Promise is no wilting flower and stands on her own. But when its evident her life is in danger, she accepts the protection while trying to figure out the science of the problems at hand. As Promise becomes more immersed in the world of the "seven" and the dangers, Promise has to learn to balance out facts and logic with emotion as the bond between Promise and Ivar become full of passion and mating heat. But Ivar has another mission and it is to save a brother of theirs ....no matter the cost even if that means never seeing Promise again.

Alpha's Promise was such a hilarious book because wow Ivar and Promise made such a unique couple and that is saying something for writing from this author because she definitely writes the original pairings. But I fell hard for this one here, and for many reasons. The first is the story of the brother lost in the other dimension. My HEART is breaking for what he is going through when him ending up there wasn't his fault at all and somehow the seven haven't been able to find a way to get him free. Especially when we see a hint of a romance in the future for him because he so deserves a HEA and I can't wait to see it happen. Now for the main part of my love of this story...Ivar and Promise. Never a odd pairing if you ever saw one. Ivar, this big bad alpha beast of a hero and a heroine who is smart as all get out--like makes your head spin she is so smart and it turns Ivar on. LOL I truly found that so amusing. Whenever she got into her math mode of figuring out an equation to a problem ---Ivar is like I wanna take her to the bedroom and make her forget the math hehe

I really found the plot of this story so fascinating and so many factors that are building for the series overall as well and I was so down with it and I just wanted much more. We also have a young girl who is meeting a boy in dreams who is the son of their enemy --I predict they will have a story and unify the two groups. Its interesting to see their relationship slowly form with each book and the building of their connection to each other. Poor kids with so much pressure on their shoulders.

Overall I found Alpha's Promise to be a superb read that swept me away in this captivating thrilling world that only Rebecca Zanetti can captivate on ....stunning, chilling, and emotionally pivoting in relatable ways!

Ivar and Promise were such a cute match! Alpha hero and nerdy heroine equaled some really funny conversations! Promise’s logic was very extremely analytical with no real connection to emotion until Ivar, but it made me really love her absentminded, lovable personality! She was easy to relate to and I could see why she appealed to Ivar.
Anytime I get to see the old crew along with Garrett and Logan, I’m always a happy reader! I can’t wait to see who Garret ends up with. And Adare and Grace? Sparks are igniting. Quade and his match are also setting my curiosity on fire! Hope is super adorable. Her parents will have their hands even more full with her as she grows up!

I have always been a fan of Ms. Zanetti's work. 'Dark Protectors' is one of my favorite series. I have not read the two books prior to this one. Since I am familiar with this world, so it wasn't hard for me to pick up this story. We are introduced to Ivar one of "the Seven". He has been to a different dimension that to us would be considered hell worlds. He needs to get back to save one of his brothers but while being hurt there he no longer has the ability to teleport.
He meets a extremely talented physicist, Dr. Promise Williams. She has the knowledge to figure out how to travel to these other worlds.
But there are other forces who wish to use her talents as well, so Ivar volunteers to protect her. I don't want to give too much away but will tell you that I most certainly enjoyed the story.

It's just dawned on me that all the heroes in this series have already earned the maximum of five stars from me! It was all up to the heroines to match their counterparts. Ivar Kjeidsen's mate, a brilliant physicist, Dr Promise Williams, was totally perfect for him in every way. She owned my heart when she gave her complete trust to Ivar, by screaming his name for help when Dayne, the Kurjan Leader sneaked into her Office and tried to trick her to help his side.

What I loved the most about Ivar and Promise's relationship was how they both gave each other absolute trust, and believed in faith even when math proved just the opposite. In short, she'd chosen him over math!

Sharing one of my favorite scenes:

"You came back to me. I know you would."

He grinned, basking in her trust. "Of course and always. In fact, I always know, even in the darkest times, that when it really mattered, I would be able to keep my Promise."

Three and a half stars, I knocked half a star off because I'm bored of heroes with Dom tendencies.

This is perfect (see above) Rebecca Zanetti paranormal escapism. Ivar Kjeidsen the hybrid vampire/demon Viking was trapped in a hell dimension/bubble for eons and has finally been released, but his mission is to get back and rescue Quade, his fellow member of the Seven, who is still trapped.

Dr Promise Williams is a brilliant physicist with poor people skills. At the funeral of a colleague who was ripped apart by savage animals she is almost kidnapped by Ivar until her quick thinking lets her get away, but she meets him again when applying for a monumental grant and learns that Ivar is trying to protect her from whoever/whatever is murdering physicists.

The Seven want Promise to theorise about how to rescue Quade, but their sworn enemies, the Kurjan are trying to capture Promise.

Do you like stories with vampires, demons, fae, hybrids, immortals, larger than life characters and super powers? If so I think you'll love this. There's a whole host of characters, most of whom I can't keep straight, overreaching arcs, sub-plots, set ups for future novels, true love, mating, branding, travel to different dimensions (the immortals wish they'd never given humans that word), cute moppets who may just save the universe, double-crossing exes, geniuses and a whole boat load of alpha male testosterone. Rebecca Zanetti never takes herself too seriously and this is a sexy rip-roaring read from start to finish.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Bumped for release.

5 stars!

Wow, I love this book! Action-packed, exciting, laugh-out-loud funny, romantic and so freaking sexy, this book has it all and I loved every moment of it!

This is the tenth book in the Dark Protectors series, and I love being back in this world! It’s a standalone story but I definitely wouldn’t recommend reading it unless you’ve got some background to the series – in particular, the new story arc that commenced in book #8 which introduced the Seven.

The Seven is a secretive, elite group of immortal Warriors. They have a mission to protect the world, and in carrying that mission out, demon-vampire-Viking hybrid, Ivar, was thrust into unending torture when he was thrown into another dimension, ripped between various other worlds and literally visiting hell until he was rescued. It left him crushed – physically and mentally, and months later he is still recovering. But he is driven by one thing – to save his brother who sacrificed himself to save the world and who remains trapped in that distant hell dimension.

Dr Promise Williams is a prominent physicist who lives and breathes math, science and the universe. She is passionate about her work, finding both comfort and inspiration in her equations to the exclusion of all else – including relationships. So when Ivar comes crashing into her life asking for her help and insisting on protecting her while she does it, she has no idea how to deal with the gorgeous, but insistent and controlling, badass. Especially when he reveals the secret of his world, and her part in it.

“Why you? Because you can help us figure out the how of what we do. More importantly, you can give me the one thing I need.”
His words softened something inside her she hadn’t realized even existed. “What do you need?” she whispered.
He released her hand and ran his palm along her face, gently cupping her jaw. “I need you to send me back to hell. As soon as possible.”

These characters are sensational. Ivar is this huge badass but he has a wicked sense of humour, and a great sense of fun about him. He is still trying to figure himself out after his ordeal, and the vulnerability of him dealing with all of that provides a beautifully heartfelt side to him. And I just loved him with Promise. He admires and respects her, taking great amusement in watching her work, and he holds nothing back when it comes to protecting and claiming her as his own.

Man, she was cute. Nerdy and sexy and brilliant. An alluring combination for a scarred former Viking.

Promise is hilarious. She’s a bit socially awkward and seems to have some Asperger’s-like behaviour in that she’s upfront and abrupt, and unconcerned with social ‘norms’. It makes for some sensational interactions as the logic-driven scientist is brought into a whole new world and exposed to a highly sexed alpha warrior who introduces her to passion like she’s never experienced.

She’d really like to engage in sex with him again. He was superb at it.

And together, they are just magic. I freaking LOVE this relationship! They don’t have the most conventional of meetings, but it’s lots of fun to read, and there’s an attraction between them from the very beginning. Neither of them are the game playing type, so their mad lust for each other gets addressed pretty quickly and it doesn’t take them too long to act on it, and holy hell, it’s so freaking hot! Their connection is sizzling, the sex is steamy (and there’s plenty of it), and the development of their relationship is both entertaining and emotional as they unexpectedly yet easily fall hard for each other.

“My loyalty is absolute … When I give my heart, it’s once only, and it’s for you.”

The boys from the Seven are all a part of the action of course, and the camaraderie and connection between them is fantastic. Their brotherhood is strong, and not only do they unquestionably have each other’s backs, but the sense of fun between them is so entertaining, and I love seeing them joking around and bantering back and forth. I also love that we got to spend time with some of the characters from the earlier books in the series as the Seven head to Realm headquarters. It’s an amazing group, with so many wonderful dynamics at play, and I loved being back in this world.

The action is intense as the Seven fight off multiple bad guys and work to understand their world. It’s exciting, clever and intriguing, and I’m loving this story arc for the series, and I am ridiculously excited for Quade’s book up next!

5 huge stars!

I am a longtime fan of this author and this series. And while I thought this one was OK, if it was not one of my favorite Dark Protectors books.

I think my biggest problem was the big emphasis on math. I know that might sound silly, but our heroine is a brilliant mathematician/physicist who our hero needs to help him figure out the mechanics of interdimensional travel. You see, in the world of teleporting demons, no one has ever had to figure out how it is done. It’s just a natural thing. And now Ivar can’t teleport and he surely can’t get to the other dimension where he had to leave his buddy Quade to fulfill the promise of the Seven to keep the big bad guy trapped in his own special hell.

Anyway, I wasn’t a huge fan of either the hero or the heroine either. I did not expressly dislike either one, but the heroine, Promise, in particular was hard to connect to as she was so cerebral and emotionally disconnected, I just didn’t feel a lot from her. She felt distant and removed. Meanwhile, Ivar was very single minded in his mission and I often felt like Promise was his secondary priority. I get that he had loyalty to his friend and felt responsible for saving him, but I want my hero to put the heroine first and that didn’t really shine through here.

I did like visiting with Janie’s daughter, Hope, and her young friends. I’m still digging the set up for her one day having a love triangle with Paxton and Drake. I feel sorry for poor Pax twice over as he is clearly being abused, he clearly cares about Hope, and he clearly has no shot. But that is probably a story for several years from now.

In the meantime I am looking forward to Quade’s story. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that he will be the first hero in the series not to threaten to spank his heroine. Here’s hoping!

Gawd, I love the Dark Protectors world! I swear, I just can’t get enough of these characters and I never will.

I love a nerdy heroine and Promise was nerdy without lacking common sense. Everything about her revolved around mathematical problems.

”Oh Ivar,” she murmured. Most women made that sound at being given diamonds. Or property. Not her. No. Markers and whiteboards made joy roll off her like heat.”

description

She thinks things through instead of allowing emotions to ruler her. When she addresses mating Ivar with an analytical mind, she doesn’t realize that there is no logic when mating a demon-vampire. I loved watching her grow from an emotionally stunted woman into a women who could take things on simple faith.

While Ivar appears to be all brawn and muscle, he is able to hold his own with Promise’s intelligence. He was fiercely loyal which caused him an extreme amount of guilt over leaving one of his brothers behind on a planet that is quickly deteriorating. He hasn’t felt anything since his failed trip, but with Promise’s presence in his life, he’s suddenly feeling everything. And as all heroes in this series, his driving force is to protect the heroine and not only did he do that, he also checked all my other alpha hero boxes.

Ivar meeting the man who has wanted to date Promise:

”Do you always barge in?”

Mark pulled his hand free, and Ivar let him. “Promise and I go way back.”

Pinpricks danced along Promise’s spine. What was happening? Tension filtered through the room, and she pondered the puzzle, finally reaching a conclusion. They were posturing? Over her? She leaned back against the crammed bookshelf to watch. This was new.

Ivar smiled, and the sight was a threat. “Well, Missy and I are enjoying the present.”

Red flushed through Mark’s face. “Missy?”

Ivar lifted a shoulder. “Nickname. Just mine. You can’t use it.”

This couple were so cute together! She was often in her head as she worked through problems and he found it to be arousing. Instead of being frightened that he was a hybrid, she was fascinated. They were perfect for each other! And oh my gosh! They actually have a rational discussion regarding the merits of having sex or not! It was fun and, on a cerebral level, sexy as well as original.

description

In true Rebecca Zanetti fashion, this has a ton of action, amazing secondary characters that feel like family, twists, and plenty of steam. This couple’s mating was intense! This is not a cliffhanger, we definitely get a happy ever after, but the overlapping storyline continues with the next book. And I simply cannot wait!!!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and Kensington Books. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

He always knew he’d keep his Promise❣️

Ivar is the next Dark Protector to find his mate. After returning from the various Hell dimensions, Ivar has to relearn how to exist where he’s not fighting for survival constantly. A human physicist by the name of Promise is who they suspect the Kurjans will be after next. When Ivar jumps the gun by trying to kidnap her driving away from a colleague’s funeral, he wonders if she will ever trust him. But there seems to be more between them....could she be his mate?

Promise has always focused on the maths and equations to find solutions to problems. Now she’s been asked to think outside the box and she’s feeling a bit overwhelmed, especially when the man who tried to kidnap her shows up😍

Absolutely loved this story and have a story of my own to tell. When I applied for this advanced copy I had no idea it was book ten in the series....so I’ve spent the last month reading all of Rebecca’s books so I could catch up and I’m so happy I stumbled across this series, because it is fast becoming one of my favourites❣️I also want to thank Netgalley, the publisher and Rebecca for this advanced copy for which I leave my honest review. Looking forward to Quade’s story next💕

Promise is a physicist and one of the best in her field and because of this she's just been put at the top of a hit list. When scientists start getting murdered, Ivar and his team know they have to protect Promise. But Ivar jumps the gun and scares Promise when all he's trying to do is make sure she's safe.

Ivar is half demon, half vampire...viking and one hundred percent badass. His head might not be screwed on right after being in a hell dimension but he knows that he has to keep Promise safe whether she wants him to or not because she is their key to rescuing their brother from a hell dimension.

The bad guys are after promise which puts them all in danger but Ivar is really good at keeping her safe. Watching these two get to know one another was really fun. It was interesting to see Promise get to know the other members and mates of Ivar's team. They all seem to get along really well and they were really welcoming which is not what I was expecting from vampire, fae, demon type people. There was also a bit of a twist in regards to one of the bad guys but I kinda knew who the idiot was and knew he was going to turn out to be a bad guy. There's an underlying storyline that continues throughout this series and now that I've read this book, I need to know what happens next. I'm well and truly hooked but it was a really good story so I'm sure the next book will be just as good.

If you haven't read the other books in this series, which I haven't, you're going to be a little confused about the other dimensions/worlds that they talk about in this book but I was able to pick up on what was going on pretty fast. I will say all the math talk did get a little boring at times but I understand why it was in this book, I mean Promise is a physicist and extremely smart. She't trying to find a way to save someone on a hell planet using math, so of course math is going to be a big part of this book, doesn't mean it didn't get a little boring to read though. While there is a lot of astrophysics talk going on in this, the author made it easy or at least somewhat easy to understand what they were talking about. I love Rebecca Zanetti's books so I knew I wanted to read this one out of order and just read the other books when I have a chance to.

Disclosure: I was given this book for free via NetGalley but all opinions and thoughts are my own.

This story picks up right after Demon's Mercy. Ivar is trying to put his life back together piece-by-piece after he was thrown into hell. All he wants to do is go find Quade and take his place in hell. Ivar is what I like to call a tortured hero. He is broken and has a lot of angst and just does not believe in himself. For me those are the best characters because when they realize that they are strong and they can do everything they transform into such amazing characters. And that is what happened with him.

Promise is a genius. She knows everything about inter-dimensions, math, wormholes, and hypothesis theories. 99% of the time I had no idea what she was talking about and I am glad that she spoke plan for everybody around her including myself.

The first meeting between Ivar and Promise was funny. He is not the smoothest person and he is not the best liar. He thought he would be able to take her and she would be placid however he met his match with her.

Throughout this entire story people were dying left and right and I still want to know why the others were killed since Promise is the top of her field? We also got to see Hope in all her besties. There are a lot of questions that I have pertaining to Hope and also her friends. In the first story arc Hope's mom, Janie, was the one to change everything but she did not end up with the 'bad guy'. I'm just wondering what is going to happen between Hope and her friend that she mets in her dream relam.

We also got to realize that the seven and the Realm strongholds are not the best. There are lots of issues that occurred within their security and I'm glad that it got exposed because during war and battles I don't think I personally can handle people getting kidnapped left and right. I really am glad that Ivar found somebody and accepted him with all of his flaws and seriousness.

This is the second time that I have read this book. This time I actually listened to it on Audible. I must say, it was just as amazing the second time around as the first time! I love Ivar and Promise, they are just the greatest couple. They just fit together so well it's crazy. I keep thinking that the next book in the series won't be as good as the previous book and every single time I am proven wrong! Every book just gets better and better in my opinion. This is a series that everybody should read. The characters are phenomenally written, the storytelling moves you along in a unique manner that just draws you in and makes you feel like you're part of the world that the story is taking place in (even though parts of the setting is not actually real). The love between these alpha males and strong heroines blows my mind every time. It doesn't matter whether you listen to the story on Audible or read the book on your Kindle or paperback the story and entire series is worth every moment and you won't regret the time that you spend in the Dark Protectors world! I love love this book and series!

I’ve not really read a vampire book before besides Dracula. I know of the lore and of course the Twilight inconsistencies with it, but that’s about it. Alpha’s Promise brings in a whole lot of other things to do with vampires, and while I cannot say it follows traditional lore, it was interesting. Promise is a physicist and Ivar a vampire-demon hybrid who needs her intelligence to go through time and dimensions to being his friend back. I don’t know how accurate the science was but it was interesting. I felt the romance was rushed and that both Promise and Ivar were awkward and uncomfortable within the relationship. I also felt like Ivar’s personality was a bit inconsistent. I enjoyed the side characters (many of whom have already had stories) and they were good at the comic relief. I don’t know that I liked the way the vampires were portrayed, sometimes it seemed like an afterthought, but it worked well when dealing with the conflict between them and the Kurjans.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 25, 2019

To hell and back . . .

Though he has vampire, demon, and Viking blood rushing through his veins, Ivar Kjeidsen’s soul-crushing trip to hell broke him in ways he can barely fathom. One vow keeps the deadly immortal standing: To rescue the vampire brother who had sacrificed freedom for him.

•••••••
4.25 stars--ALPHA’S PROMISE is the tenth instalment in Rebecca Zanetti’s DARK PROTECTORS paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is hybrid demon/vampire Ivar Kjeidsen, and theoretical physicist Dr. Promise Williams’ story line. ALPHA’S PROMISE can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion, especially this particular arc of the series focusing on the group known as the Seven.

SOME BACKGROUND: A thousand years earlier, a number of immortal warriors went through a ritual that, if they survived, hardened their bodies against attack, a ritual meant to create a group of Seven known as The Shield. The Shield was created to protect the world from an evil race of vampires known as the Kurjans, their sect group known as the Cysts, and ultimately a rogue warrior once considered a friend- Ulric-a male of immense power. To protect the human race, Ulric was captured, and along with two of the Seven, was encapsulated in one of three spheres for all eternity. As the warriors search for the ‘Keys’ to perform the ritual, the Lock must be protected in order to take down the evil that is hoping to take over the world.

Told from several third person perspectives including Promise and Ivar, following several intersecting paths, ALPHA’S PROMISE follows the building relationship between hybrid demon/vampire Ivar Kjeidsen, and theoretical physicist Dr. Promise Williams. Someone, or more specifically, the Kurjans have been targeting enhanced female physicists, and Dr. Promise Williams is next on their list. In an effort to protect the enhanced human female, Ivan Kjeidsen volunteers to act as guardian but goes about his job all wrong. Hoping to discover the truth behind their ability to teleport, the Seven bring Promise Williams into their fold, in an effort to use her knowledge and her mind. As the Kurjans continue to target enhanced female physicists, Promise begins to unravel the secret behind temporal dimensions, worlds and the ability to teleport. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Ivar and Promise, and the potential fall-out as Promise and Logan’s mate Mercy find themselves, once again, taken hostage by the Kurjan vampires

Promise Williams doesn’t do relationships; math is her lover but meeting Ivar Kjeidsen stirs something deep within our story line heroine. Promise’s enhanced abilities allows her to detect what others cannot, an ability that makes her a target in the war between the demons and vampires. Ivar Kjeidsen’s goal is to return to the h*ll world in order to rescue his brother and friend but Quade doesn’t want rescuing, in fact, he wants the Seven to leave him alone. But Quade has a secret, that the Seven has discovered, and in this Quade is desperate for the Seven to cease and desist.

Meanwhile, Hope Kayrs-Kyllwood continues to dream walk with the young Kurjan male Drake, dream walking that pushes Hope to make plans for a meet and greet in real life. But things don’t go according to plan when Hope’s whereabouts and plans are discovered, with the potential of leading the Demons to war.

The relationship between Ivar and Promise is one of immediate attraction but neither one is looking for a permanent mate. Promise’s enhanced abilities are like a beacon to those whose powers she is able to detect, and in this Ivar is desperate to claim the woman as his mate. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Logan and Mercy, Ronan and Faith, Quade Kayrs, Benjamin Reese, Garrett Kayrs, Adare O’Cearbhaill and Grace, Hope Kayrs-Kylwood and her bestie Paxton; Dayne, leader of the Kurjan nation, and his son Drake; Promise’s university co-worker Dr. Mark Brookes; and fae/demon hybrid Haven Daly. Quade and Haven’s story is next in Hero’s Haven.

The world building continues to focus on the fight against the Kurjans and the Cysts; the protection of the Realm from the prophet Ulric; and Hope’s ongoing journeys into the Dreamworld. As the Seven try to rescue one of their own, Ivar is willing to sacrifice himself in an effort to bring his brother home. With the introduction of Promise Williams, the addition of mathematics and theoretical physics ups the game to a what if and how.

ALPHA’S PROMISE is a story of heart break, secrets, betrayal, vengeance. The premise is detailed, complex and entertaining; the romance is fated and seductive; the characters are sassy, colorful, energetic, and bold. ALPHA’S PROMISE is a wonderfully intricate and elaborate addition to Zanetti’s world of the Dark Protectors.
