When I’m on the Surface, I feel like I can breathe. I left my family and friends behind in The Oasis where I’m supposed to sit on the council seat and lead. But I can’t sit around and talk all day. I need to do something productive with my time. If I’m going to save lives, I need to be the one to fight for them. So, I’m not going back to take the role my mother wants me to take. No matter what.
Those are the famous last words of Halla, daughter of the witch on the council seat. She left The Oasis, a safe haven for Unnaturals, to find her own way in life and help those that had not yet found their way home. And before long, Halla stumbles across shifters that are in desperate need of her help.
But the council wants Halla back underground to take her rightful place as leader and they will do anything to get her back. When an attempt by her own sister fails, the council sends a werewolf, an angel and a vampire to find her. It seems impossible, but the task has been laid out and the three Unnaturals set out on their quest.
They find Halla, but they find monsters that have been bred from evil, too. And they need to fight to save teenagers that had been kidnapped.
On the way, Halla gets a dream about an attack on The Oasis and she doesn’t know if its just a dream or if it’s a vision. If it’s a dream and she heads back, she risks the teenagers dying. If it’s a vision and she ignores it, her family and friends will perish. No matter which way Halla turns, it feels like she will lose. Until she turns to the friends that offer to have her back, and realizes that the only strength that is real is the strength from those who love her.
This is book 1 of 4. There will be a cliff hanger and you will need to read the other books to finish the story.
Jade Lewis grew up in Texas, but now travels the US with her husband and teenage son. She loves stories that are packed with action, the supernatural, and loads of swoony feels. She’s all about resilient women and the hot men who appreciate everything about them. She is a bit over the top and too spirited for polite society and probably eats too much chocolate for any normal human being to handle – but she likes to consider that as her own super power.
Well this is the second time I will have written this review as my computer seems to have had a brain fart while saving the first one. I am sure I will be unable to articulate my thoughts as well a second time, but here it goes. The first book in this series was incredibly confusing. There was almost no backstory or world building and I could not even tell you where we are geographically nor what time period we are in. We have dispersed inner monologues that explain some minor things but nothing concrete. The multiple POV with the many characters in such a short book really made it difficult to get to know any one character with any depth. I feel like there was a focus on the wolf shifter and the FMC's "relationship" that did not make much sense without any backstory.
The society they live in is never really explained in depth. The FMC's feelings of not belonging due to her genetics make little sense with no examples or explanations, especially since these guys were sent after her, even though no reason is really given why she must come home. The guys seemed super accepting, doting even so I just dont understand where the FMC's feelings are coming from.
I am sure I had some other notes on this but in all honesty I am tired of reliving this story again just to review it. I dont think this series is for me.
Blurb: I’m a fighter, not a puppet warming a fancy chair.
The great Council of Unnaturals has been around since the beginning of time, each member replaced by their eldest child when the time comes.
And my mother is the head of the Oasis.
Her eldest? Well, that would be me.
But I’m not interested. I’d rather live above ground.
Besides, there are much better things to do with my time, like saving a family of shifters, keeping humans from causing mass extinctions, and fighting back demon hordes.
Magic is my weapon of choice, and I wield it with precision.
But my people are relentless and send a small group of handsome men to capture me. An angel, a vampire, and a wolf.
Someone should have sent some luck along with them.
Before long, I’ve pulled them into cause—rescuing a family of shifters who’ve been attacked in their home.
We work to get the teenage kids who’d been kidnapped back, but a dream pulls at me.
My people in the Oasis are under attack.
Surely not.
If I leave, the kids will die, but if I stay, all I’ve ever known could be destroyed.
There is no right answer, and yet, I’ve gotta make my move.
First, this is book 1 of a series and is a cliffhanger. Second, this is the start of one of the best paranormal books I have read. Jade Lewis is a new-to-me author and I am really impressed with the quality of writing and plot. This is a book about Unnaturals; i.e., witches, vampires, shapeshifters, etc., and their battle for survival against black magic. Halla is a strong witch who has chosen to live away from the underground caves which is deemed a safe haven for all Unnaturals. She roams the earth to protect Unnaturals living outside of this sanctuary from humans who hunt them. She is joined by 3 others: an angel, vampire and werewolf who were sent to return her to the Oasis. Before their return they encounter creatures created by evil magic. Each chapter is a separte POV from these 4 characters but the story is so well-blended that it does not feel disjointed, but rather seamless. It provides opportunity to understand each character in a deeper way. A fabulous setting for a series!
After reading the prequel you wouldn’t know that this is book one in this series since the story is now about Zora’s sister Halla and her friends, but it is still a great read. When Zora returns at the end on the last book, the council gathers a new group of men to go search for the elusive sister. An Angel named Aurelius, Werewolf named Byron and Vampire named Greyson all volunteer, and though the Demon Damien also offers, he is told to stay in The Oasis since Demons can’t be trusted. As the men begin their search, the story progresses with each member’s point of view, and when they find Halla, they realize that she is more stubborn then she looks. Hallo on the other hand, has had her own adventure which leads her and her new companions into a quest to find missing shifter teens. Along the way, the group is tested, and new relationships begin to form but something isn’t quite as it seems. Will they be able to complete their goal and safely return the teens to their family? And will Halla’s nightmares come back to haunt her? I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book.
Having read the prologue, I was momentarily thrown off by the switch in lead heroines. And while I admit that I badly want to know more about Zora and her defenders, Halla and her champions are equally compelling. A word of warning: the ending of this book is a very abrupt cliff-hanger, so watch out for the sudden stop. It left me gape-mouthed, thinking ‘wait! You can’t leave me there.’ This book takes us deeper into the world of Oasis; its people, its politics, and its perils. The new monster that threatens all of the Nightwalkers is something I never saw coming and I desperately want to know what happens next. Who’s the mastermind behind it all and what will it take for the Nightwalkers to emerge victorious in the end? I also need to know more about all of Scarlett’s daughters. There are so many secrets that have already been hinted at, I don’t think I can rest until they’ve all been revealed. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.
KICKIN ' EM TO DA CURB!!! OMG! This is one exciting, action packed, heart pounding, pulse racing, thrilling, page turning tales that grabs your attention from the start. All the twists and turns, ups and downs, drama and suspense that keeps you on a razors edge and continues to build as the story unfolds. Tensions ride high with your emotions in overload. Wow. The characters are realistic and believable it feels like you can just reach out and touch them. Their personalities are unique with qualities and traits that balance out as they play off one another perfectly. The scenes are descriptive and detailed it really pulls this little treasure together beautifully. You have no trouble picturing it in your mind's eye as each scenario plays out. Jade did an excellent job bringing this read to life flawlessly. Fantastic job Jade, thanks for sharing this awesome read with us.
Halla, wayward witch, has been on her own seeking to help those that did not go to The Oasis, an Unnatural safe haven. The governing council has sent Aurelius, an angel, Byron, a werewolf, and Greyson, a vampire, out into the world to find her and bring her home. As the story progresses they ate faced with Halla's stubbornness, face a new foe and must overcome the tragedy that strikes. The first book in the Council of Consorts series has started out strong with epic quest and facing an unknown enemy that could lead to the destruction of all that they know. Jade Lewis has created a story line that allows for growth in the characters as well as the series. You do not want to miss out on reading this book.
COUNCIL OF CONSORTS BOOK 1 By Jade Lewis This is a new paranormal story that is continuing through 4 books. It is very well written and has very engaging characters. The Oasis is where the Unnaturals live. Halla is a witch with strong magic. She is meant to be on the council as she is the oldest daughter and it is her duty to replace her mother on the council. She wants to avoid that at all costs so she leaves. Halla has 3 men: a vampire, werewolf, and a angel that are with her to help her and protect her. This is as far as I am going to say, I don't want to give too much away. If you like paranormal give this a try.
Very good fantastical read. You have a good imagination Ms. Lewis! This reader delved right into the story and got immersed with all the happenings in this fantasy world. Lots of action and adventure, some gore as well. The characterizations were wonderful, they just seemed to "pop" and were totally believable within the context of this story. Great entertainment value! Beware though, it appears there is more to come, so there must be a book 2 - woohoo!
I voluntarily received an advance review copy of this novel and I am leaving an honest and unbiased opinion. I have to affiliation to this author.
The story shifts to the powerful young witch, Halla, who refuses to be shut up in The Oasis, with all the other nightwalkers. Her mother is one of two women on the ruling Council. The Council now selects three from the ordinary citizens to go to the surface to find and return Halla: Greyson, a Vampire and nephew of council member Constantine; Byron, a warewolf who becomes her lover at one point; and Aurelius, an angel who can sense emotions and has been her closest childhood friend. This book tells of their adventures in the open forest and their return to the devestation that awaits them at the Oasis. A good read I voluntarily reviewed from an ARC.
After reading the prequel first, I find myself put off by the inconsistencies from one book to the other (such as vampires and their reaction to daylight). If there was a reason one book had them flammable and the other didn't, it wasn't explained. Little things like this, continuity (for example, all the sisters, I though, were from the same father-- why would Halla be half witch, but her sisters pure?), and redundant phrases took some of the fun out of a good plot. As with the prequel, the worldbuilding was lacking, but the author did a better job of character development. I would have possibly rated the book a 4 if I hadn't read the prequel and noted the discrepancies.
Great paranormal romance! Halla doesn't want to live bu the councils, or her mothers rules. She is out in the world and soon finds herself on a mission to protect a shifter family. She doesn't know that 3 men have been sent to bring her back, each with their own interests in Halla. They agree to help her, in more ways than one, but she gets a vision of their home being attacked she is left with a crisis of conscious. Does she help the family she promised to protect, or save her people? This does have a cliff hanger, but it just makes you want the next book even more!
I read the prologue and I was really looking forward to this one. It didn't let me down! It was action packed, has a wide array of supes, and magical in more ways than one. The story is fast-paced and the ending sort of slapped me in the face with its suddenness, but I knew it would have a cliffhanger ending so I wasn't upset about that. The writing is great, the world-building has the perfect amount of detail, and the romance is passionate. It is everything I was looking for and I'm ready for the next one.
This whole book feels like a propaganda praising Halla to the skies. Halla is capable, Halla is strong, Halla is different, Halla is this, Halla is that, the amount of praise Halla gets EVERY chapter is insane. The more she is praised, the less inclined I am to buy into her character.
"and she was capable of looking after herself" "– you know what Halla is capable of" "No, I know what you’re capable of" "We know what Halla is capable of, though" "this was something she would be capable of" "Halla was a savior, a hero, and a true warrior"
OMG!!!!! This was an amazing story I just read by a new author. This is book one in the series and oh man it blew my mind. with magic, shifters ,vampire and an angle in this story it is an amazing story. It has a lot of strong charactersa and an amazing story line. I can not wait for the next book and I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves magic, angels, vampires and wolves, if you but this story you will NOT be disappointed at all. This is my honest and unbias opinion of the story.
I have read stories with witches, vampires, wherewolfs and angels, but the whole clan together is a story in its own, the power this story has is amazing, the heroin is like the best witch, brave, strong, powerful gives all the women courage. The men on the story are very different and individual in its on way. Cam wait to continue reading about them all hope is a HEA.
I did not like this book . The author kept repeating the same things just in different ways. I dont know how many times or ways a person can express their thoughts and feelings, but Jade Lewis is going for the record. I mean, to go on and on about their thoughts and how they feel can get very annoying. The author really wanted their feelings and thoughts known.
Either that or Jade was just trying to add words to final word count of the book.
I am a huge pan of paranormal books and this author is new to me but wow am I impressed. The writing in this book is so well written and the plot of the story sucks you in right from the beginning and keeps you begging from more. This is book one in the series so there is a cliffhanger but because of that you want to go right to book 2 and continue. The emotion, action and suspense within this book was fabulous. Looking forward to book 2. Enjoy
Needs editing! The author needs to be more accurate in the character description also. For example Halla: "When I closed my eyes, I could see her clearly. Long red hair, gray eyes that looked like mercury, and a caramel skin that seemed out of place with her features, yet only made her more beautiful." After this, her eyes are described as being green.
Phenomenal, sharp, fast-paced, and a seriously exciting high-stakes adventure .. definitely leaves the reader hungry for more!! Can't wait for the next installment. This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy
Extremely entertaining, captivating, and interesting read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong and intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This is One of the few books I have read in the past year that I could not get into or appreciate. I read about half of it and did not finish. I didn't like the whole idea or premise of the book.
ARC Received from Savannah May Romance. I also got the book📑 with KU.
Highly entertaining Paranormal Reverse Harem read. The storyline is well-written and well-paced with action, adventure, magic, and paranormal characters (shifters, vampires, witches etc). I enjoyed this enchanting book. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
This is a fantastic start to this paranormal series, from the storyline to the characters. You get danger, action, a reverse harem and so much more. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
At first I wasn't sure about this story. It was slow at first, but picked up quite nicely. It was great to see the characters connect and work together. I look forward to book 2.
Not For Me. This is One of the few books I have read in the past year that I could not get into or appreciate. I read about half of it and did not finish. I didn't like the whole idea or premise of the book.
ARC Received from Savannah May Romance. I also got the book📑 with KU.
Wish I read the prequel on this one first. Apart from Damien , for me this was painfully flat. The plot was there but felt stiff and the characters wooden. It seemed to be focused on how strong everyone believes Halla to be. A little romance but again didn’t feel anything from it.
THIS is a fascinating story. I cannot believe what these people are going through or what’s to come. I cannot wait to see what’s next! I’m voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.
