I just completed the book! Thank you Claire for writing it. I hope it gives every parent/caregiver permission to prioritize and take care of themselves. As a provider, I witness the relentless devotion to their children while putting their needs second.
I want to share your book with every teacher and administrator that I know. A paradigm shift is critical in our education system.
Professionally, your explanation of why healing trauma is messy as related to energy was appreciated. We certainly see disorganization before reorganization.

I hope every parent and educator gets a chance to read this book. It explains in easy to understand language the latest science of the autonomous nervous system and the polyvagal theory created by Dr. Stephen Porges. It contains excellent information and examples of how our facial expressions, tone of voice, and body language either help our children calm or exacerbate their big feelings. Claire provides many practical strategies to help us self calm and to be present with kids, as well as how to do the self-care that we all need to get our nervous system back into an "I am safe" state. In this way, we can stay grounded and co-regulate with children, so they can learn to self-regulate. I wish I had this book 45 years ago, when I started working with kids and became a parent!
