Twenty-year-old Rue Pagano is dead set on bringing down her mob boss uncle and moving in with her Druid detective boyfriend, Oisin.
When her plan fails spectacularly, she is left for the dead in the Blackpine swamps. As she rises from a watery grave, Rue learns how to survive in a world where magic is real, corporations are evil…and human flesh tastes delicious.
For fans of zombies, all things paranormal, and star-crossed lovers, Condemned is part two of Tiki Kos’ Ladies of Death quartet, but can be read as a standalone.
Author Tiki Kos was born and raised in the Alberta, Canada where she found her love of all things spooky, writing and tv bingeing.
She has an obsession with coffee, sour candies, Doctor Who and all things related to the Paranormal. When she isn't writing about fighting creatures or sassy women, she can be found playing with her two children and eating sushi.
What a great follow up to Crave! The Ladies of Death are a badass crew, for sure.
The Pagano family is first introduced in book one as a mob family running things. Rue is the head of the family’s niece, but she’s kept around because she is family, not because she is loved.
Re-enter Oisin the police officer that helps out Sunny in book one, this time as as Rue’s boyfriend. I really enjoyed getting to know him a bit better and hope he shows up again in the series!
Now, I know I’ve made this sound like a romance, and there is a bit of that in there, but I’d really classify this as a horror-thriller. Why? Almost everyone is a monster. Some you’ll root for, some you’ll root to take down. The humans: monsters. The creatures: monsters.
This one had some Buffy vibes for me (where Rue, though a ghoul not a vampire, is Spike from season 4, but with a soul), with echos of the initiative in the form of a corporation that Pagano is in cahoots with. There’s more, but I don’t want to spoil anything 😉.
All in all, a great read and a must for fans that want Buffy with more horror!
I loved this follow up to Crave and am excited to see where these stories are going. It can be read as a standalone too. Rue is an awesome character, kick ass but with realistic flaws and she faces some really heart-wrenching challenges. The mythology behind these stories is really interesting and well written. And of course, I LOVE Oisin and want to read more about him too. Tiki Kos write heroines that are not only strong, independent and kick some ass but they are also relatable in a way that brings me back to my teen/early twenties years of awkwardness and self-discovery. Can't wait for the next book to come out!
Great read. While this may be a quick read is does not lack anything. I would like to explore this world the author is building in more detail. This hybrid drug sounds like it could lead to the most fascinating story line. I feel like this is just the beginning of some fantastic characters and the world they live in! I did not read the first book so this could definitely be read as a stand alone.
Wow, this is such a graphic book. It really shows Tiki’s talent for writing. I was totally shocked with the direction of this book and loved every bit of it. Well done Tiki, keep up the excellent work.
I'm completely blown away by this book. I seriously didn't want too put it down. The more I read the more I wanted too read it. I loved the action, humor, and the thrill of having too read more too find out what was going too happen. Great job tiki and keep up the great writing.
I love how there are little tidbits that link to the first book Crave but the story is also a standalone. I can't wait to see where it all goes and what new characters will be introduced to us. Oh the wonderful things Tiki has in store for us! Anxiously waiting for Cursed
