This book was a five star read for me for a very simple reason: I had SO MUCH FUN reading it, and when I pick up a book that's what I want, regardless of if it makes me happy or sad or angry. I want to have fun, and boy did I have that.

The beginning is a little slow, which I found completely justified by the fact that, you know, we need to get to know the characters and the circumstances that throw them face first into various adventures. Past the first ten percent it wasn't "slow" anymore, and I couldn't put it down. I was intrigued, I was enchanted with the settings (we don't get to see all the Courts in this book, which is great since I want to discover new things in the sequels!) and the descriptions of the Courts that Alexis visited throughout the story and the fate that inhabited them, and I was delighted with the characters. Oh, when I say that I had a lot of fun reading this book, please keep in mind that I have extreme arachnophobia, to the point that I can't see pictures of spiders without freaking out, and a spider-creature character had me HOWLING with laughter. Yeah, not many books manage to do that to me. With most books (not all, to be fair) whenever spiders show up that's the point I close it and call it a night. Not with this one!

The book also has plenty of dark settings and twists, which I love. After all, what are fae without their share of darkness? Jennifer Ridge crafted the perfect combination of twisted darkness, heartfelt moments, suspense, humor and romance with 'Between Worlds', and I definitely recommend it. I can't wait to pick up the sequel.

Also, can I have Keir? Please? Sirius would do fine too. Or both. Both would be nice.

Storyline-
What if your dreams about the faeries come true? How would you feel?
Alexis finds herself in the faery realm when her best friend Molly disappeared without a trace. Was she kidnapped by some fae? To find the answer to this question Alexis makes a deal with a shapeshifter to track Molly, who she believes is in the faery realm. As they embark on an adventure, Alexis finds herself in the middle of mysteries of the faery realm which could lead her to several danger, some of them being life threatening. Is Molly really in the faery realm? What price will Alexis have to pay to get her back?
Review-
●The faery realm series is the best book to live your childhood dreams of visiting the faery world.
●Between Worlds is the perfect book to start a series, it is medium paced and the author manages to surprise us with her mysteries as they start to unfold one by one.
●Alexis, was the best choice for a protagonist, who isn't perfect but a strong-willed character whereas Molly was different than her in every aspect and yet the bond of friendship they shared was remarkable.
Personal Views-
I grew up reading fairy tales like any other girl. I never outgrew my fantasies about faeries. Reading the book and delving into the faery world not only satisfied my thirst but also made me crave more. I would certainly join Alexis and Molly in their next adventure in Divided Worlds, which is the second book in the series.

Really liked the enticing prologue that promised a dark fae story full of intrigue and danger. When Alexis encounters a strange man at a party asking questions about her best friend Molly, it starts a chain of events that takes Alexis not only out of her comfort zone as far as believing in faeries is concerned, but out of her human realm. On the other side of the rift magic becomes the norm in her new world and with some fae help Alexis gets on with the task of finding her friend. No cliffhanger here to send me diving headlong into the sequel, instead the ending leaves us with the promise of Jynx returning and Molly exploring her fae glamour skills in the real world. But a visit from Keir in the epilogue to deliver a gift rekindles their connection and makes me want to follow their story when they reconnect…as they surely must.
Not the most original story-line but so nicely written with skillful character building and descriptions. I especially liked the very apt, age appropriate banter between the characters of the different realms. A lovely example of YA writing.

Just when I thought faeries were nothing more than miniature people with pixie wings, I read this book and am thrust into a whole new world of mythical creatures and oddities that I had not heard of before. “The Fae” consist of an entire race of so many different beings that it had my head spinning – but in a good way!

I won’t get into the whole synopsis or anything, I’ll just dive into how I felt about this book. It was amazing and thoroughly detailed. The disappearance of Alexis’ best friend Molly had me dreading the worst possible outcome, it almost felt like a murder story at first. I honestly don’t know that I could have done what Alexis did, travel to a completely unknown world full of bizarre beings and creatures, not to mention strange rules and regulations. I’d probably be held captive (or dead) within the first 10 minutes of entering their realm lol.

Jynx – geez, what a clown lol. I wasn’t sure I’d like her at first. She emitted bad vibes originally and seemed very sketchy if not deceptive, but after a time she grew on me and I began to appreciate her presence. Though – she still makes me a bit weary. I guess I knew a few people like her in real-life that I never trusted. The naughtiness is what gets me…or maybe it’s the unpredictability lol, whatever it is, she’s quite the interesting character and really adds that nice humorous element to the book.

I liked how the well the romance was written too. At first, I felt it came on a little strong but the further I read into the story, the more it began to make sense. I like how Alexis doesn’t just give-in and sort of plays the “hard to get” routine even though she has no qualms with embracing him whenever the moment calls for it ;)

Poor Jaxith, I feel sorry for the guy. He’s got that “wrong place at the wrong time” feeling to him, though that’s not necessarily the case. I certainly hope he makes another appearance in upcoming novels and perhaps even find a way to redeem himself.

There was more than one instance where I was kept on my toes, wondering what the heck Alexis was getting herself into. There were a few moments, in fact, when I caught myself saying “Don’t go out alone, what are you doing?!”. She’s quite the fighter, I’ll give her that. Not many average people out there who can take on a vampire – sheesh.

All-in-all, it’s a beautifully, amazingly written novel, the world is so unique and wonderful to explore and this book only touches upon a minor portion of it! Oh, and umm…*clears throat* I wouldn’t mind seeing where that ummm *clears throat again* romance is heading. You know, just out of curiosity…no other reason *takes a bite of jerky and crushes a pop can on head*. I’m really looking forward to reading the sequels to this one!

Oh and the ending, the epilogue specifically, was perfect – just sayin.

Note: I received this book from the author and I voluntarily give this review, it is my honest opinion.

Alexis and Molly are the best of friends, while Alexis is a bit of a loner, Molly is more outgoing, friendly and overall bubbly. They do everything together, they are closer than sisters. Then something unthinkable happens, Molly disappears, and Alexis thinks the fae are involved. Alexis knows Molly wouldn't leave her and the adults in charge aren't really doing a good job, so it's up to Alexis to get her best friend back. The question is what is she willing to do to make that happen.

The fae are my favorite type of supernatural, they are so versatile, that they can be beautiful, they can look like natural elements or they can look terrifying. The fae are unpredictable, whimsical and terrifying. I love reading different interpretations of them and I love collecting their stories. Jennifer Ridge has done a good job interpreting the fae in Between Worlds.

In the beginning, the story moved a little slow but it picked up and kept my interest. The descriptions got better as the book went on and I recognized some of my favorite type of fae magic, also the fact that at one point Between Worlds started to remind me of Alice in Wonderland is a plus. The world build was decent without giving to much information at once there was a good amount of fae mythology.

Alexis is the main character, the story is told from her pov and I hate to say it but I couldn't really connect to her fully. Overall I thought she was an okay character but sometimes she annoyed me and was reckless for no reason. On the flip-side to that, Alexis was determined, a loyal friend, clever and surprisingly scrappy. Alexis' journey most definitely leaves a mark, by the end of it she is different and I like her just a little bit more.

While Alexis may be a loner, there is a romance. It's a slow-building relationship and with Alexis being so stubborn it's not an easy one but she finds someone that she connects to, he understands her, she understands him and they form a real connection. I love them together and I want the next book because I think it's also gonna be told from his pov.

In Between Worlds Alexis journeys to the dangerous world of the fae, there is danger, romance, fae plots, and mysteries at every turn. Alexis learns and grows throughout the book. I love the whimsy and romance and I am looking forward to reading that in the next book in the series.

Beautifully written YA fantasy, with a touch of romance

An awkward bookworm through and through, Alexis doesn’t have a lot of friends. Scratch that. She has one friend. The pretty and popular Molly. They don’t just click, they’re BFFs. At least, that’s how Alexis feels. So when Molly mysteriously goes missing after a fight with her mother, without a word to Alexis no less, she’s convinced it wasn’t voluntary, and futilely looks for a way to find out what happened to her friend.

She’s all but at a dead end until a fateful camping trip on midsummer’s eve. Around the campfire that night, as the girls chat, one of the girls talks of faeries the spirit away humans to other realms. Something about the idea intrigues Alexis and she begins to wonder. And on the tails of that discussion, a near stranger, a handsome and brooding young man, oddly suggests she not go looking for her friend. Of course, willful and contrarian, Alexis is now absolutely convinced she must. And it doesn’t take Alexis long to do exactly that, propelling her into a whole other realm filled with nefarious plots, countless dangers, and a fair share of intrigue.

This well formed world, filled with unique and engaging characters of every sort, took me from mildly entertained to enraptured in no time flat. Especially as the dynamic between Alexis and Keir unfolds (is he friend or foe? Will Alexis fall for him? He’s so yummy, please Alexis, fall for him!). Multiple subplots are woven together so well that, while the ending wrapped things up (for now), there is so much more of this world yet to unfold. And I’m definitely looking forward to finding out what happens next!

First I’d like to say I LOVED THIS BOOK.

Now for a coherent, non-spoilery review:

The story follows Alexis, a human girl, whose best friend Molly goes missing after she has a fight with her mother. Everyone thinks Molly ran away, but Alexis can’t believe her best friend would leave without telling her. After hearing that faeries sometimes steal mortals, Alexis investigates and stumbles across two faery shapeshifters that agree to help her on her journey into the Faery Realm to look for Molly (for a price).

The shapeshifters are probably my favorite characters. Jynx is hilarious and Jaxith is so moody and grumpy….they’re the best pair of siblings. I won’t say too much more about the plot to avoid spoilers, but I loved the vibe of the Faery Realm, and the Dark Court (where they spend most of their time) has such a pretty (and dark, obviously) aesthetic. The faeries are all morally gray and menacing, and the romance between Alexis and her…love interest (won’t say who, hehe) was really unique and fun, like the whole book was unique and fun. (Did I mention I love Alexis? She is such an entertaining character to follow.)

ANYWAY. I obviously bought the second book immediately after finishing this one and shall be binge reading today. I’m excited to see how things will progress for the characters in the next installment, Divided Worlds!

As a little girl, my favorite past time would be pondering over the pictures in the books of fairytales, wondering about ways to reach them. Between worlds made that dream come true..It is, as the name suggests, the story of a journey to and fro, between the mortal and the faery realm. The Author makes it sound so convincing that at times, you'd really believe that a faery realm does exist and that faeries are as much a part of our world as other humans are..
The story is centered around Molly's disappearance into the faery world and how Alexis, her bestie, sets out on a mission to bring her back. It is also a story of great love, sacrifice and empathy that underlies every beautiful relationship.
The worlds have been intertwined with much skill and I could visualize many of the places in the faery realm. The names of the characters are exotic very well chosen, some of them, however, are a bit difficult to pronounce.
Perhaps what I loved about the book was its faery connection but I also liked the book for dealing with issues like mother-daughter relationships in a very sensible way.
I would reccomend this book to everyone going to a summer camp. This may be the midsummer night's dream that you've been waiting for!

A really wonderful read that transports you into the Faery Realm. Ridge's descriptions of the realm and each court — specifically the Dark Court — is unlike any fey story I've read before. I really enjoyed her world building and she was able to explain it without being bogged down in too many details. Her Fey are also incredibly dynamic and interesting creatures, which is also really fun to see.

Her characters are interesting and fleshed out: Jaxith, Kier and Jynx being my personal favorites. Ridge's writing is both entertaining and genuine. Between Worlds is the type of YA that teenagers will eat up and love, while still being a quick and enjoyable read for older readers.

Something I personally loved was the attention to detail that comes with adventure stories. Like what Alexis packs matters when she goes into the Faery Realm — she only has two pairs of clothes at first. Her curly hair is frizzy. Little details like that will make it easier for readers to put themselves in her shoes. Although Alexis acted a little young for my taste on occasion (but duh she's 16) she was a strong, loyal character who wasn't afraid of fighting to get what she wants (and I mean literally fighting sometimes.)

Excited to read book two and see where the story continues!

If you love the ‘A Court Of Thorns And Roses’ series, you’ll dig this young adult fairy realm.

If you love the ‘A Court Of Thorns And Roses’ series, you’ll dig this young adult fairy realm.

This is the story of a young outcast named Alexis who’s friend Molly disappears one night during a sleep over. Determined to find her friend, Alexis discovers and tracks down a strange dark haired boy who’d been asking many weird questions about Molly.

After making a deal with a fey shifter, Alexis is taken to the fairy realm to find Her friend. There she navigates the strange new world while resisting the pull to become lost to the realm herself.

Along the way we meet many interesting characters and learn much about the various kinds of fey that populate the land of Fairy. This story is full of magical shifters, moving trees, canning fey, and bloodthirsty rose hedges. Here is a book that will definitely quench your fantasy thirst.

If you've ever read any YA Fantasy and loved it, you'll love this. No questions.

Although it is a slow build, the world is well crafted and thought out. The cast of characters had a fun dynamic and I enjoyed seeing this take on faeries. I have very few criticisms except for the fact that I wasn't a fan of the Main Character: Alexis. She felt very empty for me, which in some ways is great for YA, as you want to be able to picture yourself as the MC, but I still would've preferred a LITTLE more interest in her. And her romance with [PERSON] feels shoe-horned but I'm certainly not complaining because I will happily take a tall drink of him any day. (Proof that the rest of the cast is really quirky and lovely and I loved all of them.)

At the end of the day, this was worth every second and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Turn off your brain, relax, and enjoy the ride.

Lovers of the magical world, this is a mustread for you!

Molly and Alexis are best friends. When Molly goes missing, Alexis is determined to find her. She'll do anything, even make a deal with one of the fae.

Somehow the story has a slow start - I am referring to the part in the beginning of the book, where they still are in the human world, introducing Molly and Alexis-, but it might as well be my impatience to go to the Faery Realm! Having said that, it quickly absorbed me when Alexis makes the deal with the fae. So much so, that I was reluctant to put the book away to go grocery shopping (food which is awfully dull compared with the Faery Realm) or cook a meal.

Alexis got her hands full with everything that is going on, finding Molly is not as straightforward as she thought!

Exiting read, leaving you wanting for more!

There was a lot of set up before plunging into the Faery Realm, but the story was well-paced and kept me turning the page. Once in the Faery Realm, the reader is introduced to a land full of threat and treachery. It was an enjoyable story that intrigued me with its fanciful creatures and fantastical setting. A fun read for sure! My one issue was I didn’t quite understand Keir’s attraction to Alexis and unless I missed something, their relationship seemed to develop out of thin air. Otherwise, it was a well-written story and a great debut novel.

This is a fun and sometimes scary young adult novel about fairies, humans, and adventure where one damsel tries to safe her damsel best friend. I wasn't sure I would like this book because the main characters are 17 year olds and I try to read less with teenagers being main characters, mainly I'm much older and I can't relate anymore to teens but this book really pulled me. I swear, it has fae magic and pulls in readers.

For 17+ who like adventure, romance and traveling between worlds. Plus the cover is very pretty.

Do you believe in fairies? I sure do, and especially after reading this, I'm ready to jump into book to of this enchanting series! This book was everything I love in a fantasy story: engaging, thrilling, romantic, exciting, and magical. Ridge does a lovely job of sucking you into the Faery realm with spunky and determined Alexis as she searches for her missing friend. The descriptions of the Faery court were stunning, and interesting, especially the rose bush walls with their own personality ;) I highly recommend this series if you're looking for something new to keep you on your toes!

I love all things fae so I was really excited to read this book. Ridge has created a fantastic YA fantasy story filled with adventure, suspense, teenage romance and an endearingly relatable heroine. Alexis’s character is something of a loner and an all around quiet, bookworm personality, but with the kind of stubborn tenacity that I admire in a heroine. The author’s storytelling is completely immersive with rich story world descriptions and a complex supporting cast. Can’t wait to move on to the next book in the series!

I love books about faeries, Fae, and any other similar creatures. Between Worlds is no exception. Alexis sets out on a quest to rescue her best friend Molly, who disappeared into the the faery realm. Along the way Alexis finds love, and what a romance it is! I really loved the story and the characters in this book. It’s wonderfully written and really made me feel like I was in the world with them! I highly recommend this book!

A simple, but immersive read, Ridge had me on the edge of my seat as we followed an all-too-relatable heroine, Alexis, who would prefer to be left alone in a corner with a book, thank you very much. Alexis was someone I could relate too on every level, and her adventure had me laughing, groaning, and blushing, my heart sinking and swelling at every turn. I had a hard time putting it down, and highly suggest it to anyone who enjoys a good teenaged fantasy adventure with sparks of romance.

While I am not normally a fan of the young adult faery genre, Between Worlds had me fascinated from the get-go. The characters are rich and interesting, but most of all, the worldbuilding is phenomenal (and I know we've only seen a tiny peek of what the Faery Realm has to offer). I cannot wait to see where Alexis, Kier (aka my son), and Molly take me next. - 4.5/5

I took a while to get really invested (Alexis felt very young to me (she's not even 17, so that's understandable, but still)), but once we got to the Dark Court things really felt like they got going, and the story clicked with me, and I invested. I'll be back for the later books.

★★★★☆ (3.75 / 5 stars)

Alexis and Molly are best friends. No, they’re even closer than that. They are almost sisters, in a way! But when Molly goes missing, Alexis is determined to find her. Yet, as weird individuals pop up throughout town, with warnings about the fae on their lips, Alexis is suddenly thrust into the world of the fae. But who can she trust? And can she get her and Molly out alive without being harmed?

In an well-written adventure about two best friends, journey with Alexis into the realm of the fae, where she learns there is more to herself and the world than meets the eye. I love stories that are about two friends, especially where someone sacrifices the life they know to find their best friend. Even more, it’s great when it is two young women who love each other without a doubt. This is Alexis’s guiding principle through the story: everything she does is for Molly.

Alexis is relatable, especially to insecure teenagers who aren’t sure about their weight or aren’t quite so outgoing. This story isn’t just about Alexis finding Molly. It’s also about Alexis finding herself.

The characters pop from the page: between Alexis’s internal conflict, Molly’s bubbly personality, Jynx’s hijinks, Jaxith’s silent demeanor, and Keir’s flirty one. Each character has their own unique goals, which really make the world of the Fae all the more interesting. Even the minor characters, such as Molly’s other friends or the villains, stand out. It’s these characters that make this story shine.

It is a bit slow in pace, especially in the beginning, but that isn’t the primary reason why I’m giving this 3.75 stars instead of 4. I decided to knock off a fraction of the rating due to a personal preference. I realized, while reading this, that I am not a big fan of the tropes surrounding the fae: the marking, the manipulation, the age differences, etc. While Keir is sexy and likeable – and I completely understand why Alexis would not mind being marked by him – the idea that he marked her without permission made my stomach crawl. Granted, Alexis also does not shy away from saying that to him, which is a saving grace. This is by no fault the author, but a common trope in the fae lore.

Despite that though, I think I will adventure into the world of the fae again with Alexis and Molly in book two. Jennifer Ridge is a talented author and definitely one to watch.

So if you like the fae, like a bit of romance, and also two best friends who will do anything for each other…definitely check out Between Worlds.

I won a copy of Between Worlds in a IG contest hosted by the author.
I had heard many great things about this series and was very excited to dive in.
This story follows Alexis who finds her life upturned when her best (and really only) friend, Molly, goes missing. Everyone says she ran away but Alexis knows she wouldn’t have done that. As she pokes around she discovers another world and goes on a journey to find her friend.
The premise is pretty simple and the story not necessarily original, however I LOVE seeing the many ways fairy realms are created and the world building in this book is wonderful.
What I found lacking was the characters. I didn’t feel a strong connection and the first 3/4 of the book was very slow. I did grow very interested towards the end and I truly was excited for some of the romance that happened, however it felt a bit out of nowhere. I really wish there had been ties to the romance more in the beginning.
Also (and my copy may be an edition before any fixes were made) there was a LOT of grammar errors. I can always look past a few of these especially in indie novels but this one had more than a handful. For that reason I really would probably rate this closer to a 3.5 but that ending really redeemed itself for me and I’m actually a bit interested in book two because of it.

I very much enjoyed this book. The characters are well developed and the dynamics between them are realistic and relatable. The worldbuilding is fantastic and the obstacles it brought to a storyline that might be thought of as cliche made it fresh exciting for me. There were some aspects that I didn't care for (just personal preferences) and I wished for a little more from certain characters, but having read the next book in the series, these things don't bother me so much. One of my favorite things about this story is how well the details, foreshadowing, and hints are woven together. I definitely recommend this book.

Fantastic!

This book was wonderful! It was a fantastic experience that left me reeling and wanting more after it ended! The whole story was rich with beauty and imagery. This book was something I highly recommend as a fun weekend read, something that will give you a warm and fuzzy feeling in your chest. On top of that Alexis is one of the best heroines POVs I’ve read from- she was relatable, straightforward, and compelling throughout the whole novel! This book was just well written and fun!

An excellent first book. She has built a world that any mortal would love to get lost in. The characters were well-drawn, and I love how stubbornness is an attribute and not a fault. The last few chapters I could not put it down! It moved to a swiftly satisfying conclusion and I really can't wait for the next one.
