I am the author of Lifecircle Leadership: How Exceptional People Make Every Day Extraordinary.

Like many women, I juggle the demands of family and the pressures of a full-time job, while still finding time to volunteer and better the community. I'm inspired by making a sustainable difference in people’s lives and seeing my company and my community prosper.

I earned my higher education after being a single-mom for years, and I worked throughout my schooling, to continue supporting my children. My passion for learning led me to earn five degrees, including a law degree, an MBA, and a doctorate in education.

Nonprofit is also a huge force in my life. I'm affiliated with many professional and civic organizations in my home state of New York.

More than anything, I'm passionate about living a purposeful, connected life. I'm driven by a deep desire to improve myself personally, my company, and my community, through my philosophy of Lifecircle Leadership and pragmatic altruism.

I invite you to explore my book and my blog, and reconsider your approach to business and life. I hope you will discover, as I did, that being and doing good is good for business.

Lifecircles Leadership is so much more than a business book. It has a compelling true story, effective message, interesting path. Kim’s message is that #PragmaticAltruism means that doing good is good for business. That she is an award-winning nonprofit leader, who is chief executive of one of our region’s largest employers - and gets RESULTS- is special. Reading this new book will motivate you to be better, and will fill you with a sense of optimism. We are all connected. I liked it so much that I bought copies for clients and friends!

Let’s let Dr. Kimberly Townsend depress us for a moment – because she promises to make it better.

In Lifecircle Leadership: How Exceptional People Make Every Day Extraordinary (Advantage Media Group), Townsend advances a leadership theory of pragmatic altruism. But first she sets the stage by taking a bleak temperature of our times:

Half of all Americans are unhappy at work.
Between 40 to 50 percent of all marriages end in divorce.
A dramatic rise in incidents of alcoholism among American women, attributed largely to increased levels of authority in the workplace.
More than 40 million Americans diagnosed with anxiety.
The life expectancy age in America continues to drop.
Ready for some good news? Given this backdrop, Townsend argues that it is now more important than ever to “reconsider how we approach not only business, but one another.” Doing good, she says, is good business.

But is it as simple as that? “It’s not just doing good,” she writes. “It’s also caring for yourself, your company, your community, and getting out from under the constant pressure of our ‘instant-on’ society in a meaningful but realistic way – this is the heart of pragmatic altruism.”
