Shadow Riders #4

Shadow Warrior

Rate this book
Danger inspires fierce passion when a serial killer threatens Chicago's Ferraro crime family in this novel in Christine Feehan's New York Times bestselling series.

Vittorio Ferraro is a man whose family loyalty knows no bounds. He would die for his siblings and the people they love, but what he really wants is to start a family of his own. Deep down, Vittorio has always known finding a woman who could ride shadows would be nearly impossible--let alone one who could accept his particular needs--and he never expected to find her in the middle of a kidnapping....

Grace Murphy has always been drawn to Vittorio Ferraro--or at least to the billionaire's public bad-boy persona. Now that she's under his protection and the sole focus of his intense caring, she can't help wanting to get as close to him as possible. But Grace knows her presence is putting the entire Ferraro family in danger. Her monster of a brother will never let her go, but Vittorio has no intention of losing the woman whose shadow matches his own.

With the creation of Vittorio, Christine Feehan has officially earned a spot on my must-read list! This was my first time reading from this author and I can finally understand what all the hype is about. This story had intrigue and suspense, but it was heavily layered in sensuality and love. And the strong ties of family were hard to miss. All parts of this book made it an entertaining read. From the insidious ways that the serial killer taunted them to the uniformity of the Ferraro family, I was captivated by what I held in my hands.

I'm in love with the unique powers that the Ferraro's wield. Shadow walking sounds so cool! And then they all have characteristics that are unique to each of them. Vittorio's power is in his voice. He can use it to compel people to do as he wishes or defuse a tense situation or calm down the woman he loves. He also has a seductive undertone that leaks through no matter what he's doing. He's fierce and loyal and kind and cool under pressure, and in his heart of hearts, he's a dominant looking for a woman of his own to take care of. When Grace falls into his lap, he can't believe his good luck. Now all he's got to do is convince her to give in.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Although it's the fourth in the series, I was never lost. It can be read as a standalone, however, I will be going back to read the previous three books and hope to continue with the rest. I'm curious about the relationship between Val and Emme and don't judge me for wanting them to find their happy ending too. I'm recommending this to anyone who loves a sexy paranormal romance with an edge.

Grace Murphy has always been drawn to Vittorio Ferraro but she never would be in his circle, until she gets caught up in a kidnapping and Vittorio immediately recognizes Grace as what he’s been missing in his life. Now he just must convince her to take a chance on him.

Grace grew up in the foster care system, never knowing she was a shadow rider. Her co-foster brother has developed an very unhealthy obsession with Grace and she fears getting close to anyone because her psychotic foster brother has always hurt, maimed or even kill them. Running on scared, Grace finds it hard to trust the bad boy rep. Vittorio has purposely created.

Hot men, strong woman and a plot that keeps the reader engaged throughout, Shadow Warrior is a great addition to Feehan’s Shadow series.

I received this ARC copy of Shadow Warrior from Berkley Publishing Group. This is my honest and voluntary review. Shadow Warrior is set for publication June 04, 2019.

Same story, different characters. Lots of inner dialog, lots of dominating behavior "but I'll make sure you like it". Lots of explaining why it's ok to like that type of man. The boogie man is once again pushed into the background so the story, what little of it there is, is wrapped up nice and tidy at the end. Ho-Hum

This review was originally posted on Addicted To RomanceI received this book for free from Berkley Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Shadow Warrior is the most recent addition to the Shadow Rider series and I adored this book so much. There is something so endearing about this series and how this family loves and protects one another. This is book number four and we see some more depths of this family as we see other developments with the youngest sister "Emma" and her love interest as she battles with herself when he betrays her but their love is a forbidden love and so I am eager for her book so BADLY. Crossing my fingers it will be the next one.

Shadow Warrior begins with our hero, Vittorio Ferraro, who is the bad boy of the group. And with each of his siblings finding love he wonders if it will ever happen to him. But while in the club, he finds members of the family that are their enemies trying to kidnap an innocent woman, a woman he finds out that is his fated match, but she takes a bullet for him and Vittorio sees his chance to help his lady out, and find out if they will have what his siblings have with their spouses. But there is also a danger involving Grace. Grace, has always felt drawn to Vittorio but she has always known that their worlds are so far apart from one another. Grace grew up in foster care, but there was one boy, where they protected each other when the were both abused in a foster home. But her "brother" turned out not completely sane, and as they both got older, Grace began to fear him. And now she finds herself with the aid of the Ferraro family when her brother tried to sell her into sexual slavery to pay off her gambling debts. But with the passion and endearing love blooming between Vittorio and Grace, her brother wants the man she adores dead...

This was such a whirlwind of suspense and sensuality and boy every time I read Christine Feehan I fall in love ever more with her books. I will say that this book really shows her true power in storytelling and I think I am still in a withdrawl of sorts and been focusing on rereading my favorites from this author. I adore how she writes alpha males, they get to me every single dang time and I LOVE it. I will say that if you love alpha males, then this is definitely a must read for you. I really had a blast with this book and was so sad when it ended because this series is one of my favorites from this author. (although quite frankly I love just about every book I have read from her)

The love story that develops is sexy, passionate and has its moments of poignant emotion that is displayed throughout the story.  I really love seeing a character that grows up in foster care, especially seeing how strong and courageous she is and how she has risen above the abuse she has suffered all of these years and become such a sucess. She has worked her own career and kept her important hidden from her crazy brother even. She works with an event planner, but she is the heart and soul of the business and her business partner is more of a cover so her brother doesn't target her closest friend/business partner. We see a bit of their friendship here, not too much (I would have liked to see more of their friendship though), and I love how great they work together.

The ferraro family also endears me every time I read them and that is no different with this book here. We do plenty of drama with Eloisa (the mother) and boy with each book I begin to like her less and less. She is a piece of work,  But you see how the siblings really come together and support one another no matter what. I love seeing their loyalty and affection for one another.

There is something about these Ferraro siblings that is addicting. Every time I read about them finding their “one” I always get sucked in and swoon every time. Every time I think I have found my new favorite Ferraro, another one comes up and steals the show and that’s exactly what happened with Vittorio!

This book starts off with a bang when Vittorio meets Grace being sold into human trafficking by her previous foster brother. As soon as he sees her he knows that she’s meant to be his. Convincing her and keeping her safe will be hard. I loved these two together! Vittorio thought he would never find a woman that he would be able to have and let alone be comfortable with the lifestyle that he wants.
Grace was strong and I honestly don’t know how she didn’t crack under being around Hayden for so long. He trapped her and kept her in fear. So much fear that I was scared she wouldn’t let Vittorio help her heal and find peace in living her life. She came out of her shell and gave him the submission he needed.

The relationship between these two was sensual and such a joy to read about. Vittorio needed someone who would let him dominate the relationship. Let him be in control in the bedroom and make choices for their life. Grace gave herself to him and it was great when you saw her beginning to trust him and gave him that power.

However, I did have some issues. Feehan spends A LOT of pages dedicated to sex between these two and repeating things that have already been covered in previous chapters. This book could have been a whole shorter! I like sex scenes as much as the next girl, but like every other book in this series, it’s drawn out and not really needed.

This was a good addition of the Shadow series and I really need a book on Emmanuelle really soon!

I received an ARC via NetGalley for an honest review.

Shadow Warrior was one of the best books I have read this year. The writing was captivating and seductive in developing one of the most sensual male heroes I have ever come across in this riveting paranormal series. Vittorio Ferraro is a dominant man and doesn’t hold his breath in finding his ideal woman to handle his specific needs. Purely by accident he sees something odd happening in the nightclub and investigates to find a woman being abducted. Thrown into a fight, he ends up being saved by the woman herself when she takes a bullet meant for him. His instincts kick in and tells him that she’s the one and now he needs to make it so.

Grace Murphy enters the scene fighting mad when Haydon Phillips tries to sell her into prostitution in order to pay off his gambling debts. Stepping in front of a bullet to save Vittorio from being killed by Haydon was a no-brainer, but then to find out she’s engaged to Vittorio after surgery, really threw her for a loop. They’ve never officially met but she knows a whole lot about it since she arranges fundraiser events and he’s there with family. She watches from afar and he’s become her fantasy dream man. Vittorio turned her world inside out when he took her to his home and cared for her like she’s never known before. Growing up in foster care, where she met Haydon, was bad and made worse as Haydon terrorizes her life to this day. Being with Vittorio, making her feel safe and loved, for the first time in her life can be a dream come true for the taking. But is that too big of a risk for her to take?

Shadow Warrior is a seductive read that draws you in and won’t let you go. Vittorio took the art of seduction to a whole new level and used patience, his care, and his love, to show Grace how her life would be with him if she accepted all of him. The search for Haydon, her stalker, kept the story on edge until the final conclusion. Vittorio, and all his siblings, are larger than life characters and take being a shadow rider seriously. When they are afforded a chance at happiness in their life, they are all in to make happen. Christine Feehan outdid herself with Shadow Warrior and future stories are highly anticipated.

Suspenseful, sexy romance…

Ahh... I was so happy to get back in the middle of the Ferraro clan! Sexy, confident, using their extraordinary abilities to right injustices – yeah, they are ALL that and more. Sophisticated, driven, with alpha tendencies, each story in this series has been about family and love and finding your one. Grace and Vittorio’s story started with a jolt and never eased up…

Grace and Vittorio came together by lucky accident. Grace, with no family - or none you would want - was embraced by Vittorio and quickly brought into the family fold. With a tense backdrop of danger and suspense, convincing Grace they were meant to be together was an uphill battle. One he doggedly was determined to win. Yeah, that is as HOT as it sounds! With his natural protectiveness, and a hint of arrogance (that he could completely back up) his full court press was irresistible. But Grace was no fragile flower, so she made sure she was strong when she needed to be and always pressing for the honesty she demanded…

If their story was a bit slow as it repeated itself in spots, I’m completely addicted to this author’s words and the Ferraro clan! Love, loyalty, passion and danger are addictive elements in these well written reads. The lone Ferraro sister’s story has been percolating for a while and the tension ramped up to high gear here as her love life threatened to blow up their world. Please, please be the next story! ~Diane, 4.5 stars

Shadow Warrior, the fourth book in the Shadow Rider Series by Christine Feehan, had my heart beating in all different ways for all different reasons! This book grabs you from the very first page, actually the very first sentence, and it doesn’t let go.
Vittorio Ferraro has spent his life obligated to family and performing his duty of doling out justice while hiding behind a mask. He had two speeds, calm rational peacemaker, trying to control situations peacefully and if that couldn’t be achieved he erupted and made every blow count. He dreamed of finding someone to give him balance, to anchor him between these two extremes. When he finds Grace his heart unlocks, he finds someone who he can open up to, actually needs to open up to, and we begin to see there is so much more to Vittorio Ferraro, his masked personality emerges with her. He pulls out all the stops to win her love and to save her from the man who has tormented her most of her life.
Grace, who spent time growing up in the foster care system, some horrible, some good. But the most horrible was the Foster brother who latched on to the kindness she gave him, in his demented way protected her from the bad but also removed the good to keep her his. She had to control herself and everything in her life to protect herself and those she came across from him. Her control gave her the skills she needed for her career, but it also kept her from living. Then she meets Vittorio and she realizes how tired she is of being in control. How nice it is to surrender her fears, her care, to someone like him as her trust builds. He brings to her life the same balance, the same anchor, he wants in his life. In turn Grace gives them to him. It’s Ms. Feehan’s amazing storytelling that shows this happening, this bond growing into a beautiful relationship.
Vittorio, the epitome of a dominant alpha Male, is a stark contrast to the psychopath foster brother who torments Grace. Hayden threatens her through his control, terrorizing her, removing any relationship in her life. Vittorio wants to know her likes/ dislikes. Knows that the strength of a relationship, even a dominant submissive one is one of communication and trust, knowing and acting on what makes each other happy. Being brought into the Ferraro family this is more important than anything. The consequences are high if the trust is broken. I was truly amazed at how these two grew as individuals and as a couple.
The villain, Grace’s foster brother, is one of the most diabolical, bone-chilling, I’ve ever read. He is a threat to the entire Ferraro family. And the main reason I had to remind myself this is a romance there’s going to be a happy ending. And yes, with the family structure they gather information and with action packed scenes and special paranormal abilities the Ferraros know how to rise to the occasion!
All while Vittorio and Grace’s story is being shared, I fell more in love with the Ferraro siblings and their bond. Happenings with the family's rivals, the Saldis, and within their territory let you know something is brewing and the family has threats to be aware of…and the reader to realize this Series has a lot to offer in coming books!

A vacillated between 3 to 3.5 stars before settling on 3.5
The latest instalment of this series took the story forward and CF does a nice job of laying the premise for future books ... and while this story was good and interesting, I didn't feel there was anything all that different from her other books ...
Recently CF is taking all her main characters in all her series in the direction of power exchange and BDSM ... exhibitionism and dominance ... which is fine but I feel that she sometimes forgets that as a series writer she basically writes 2 stories per book; the main characters love story and the arc or main story line of her series ... she invariably drops the ball somewhere for both the stories ...
She is also famous for having some of the most dominant H's ... but lately they appear to be taking back seats to villains ... they seem to be dominant all in the bedroom but outside, the villains make them run around like fools and all their declarations of keeping h's safe falls by the wayside ...

Since last year, I have found all her series to be going in the same direction; BDSM ... which is not bad but not really her style ... because CF has previously written some really great power exchanges without taking matters towards BDSM ... I also feel she is trying to portray the deepening intensity between all her main characters by using this track ... but she fails to consider that she writes pnr and urban fantasy ... and she is also one author who always puts her H and h on a level playing field ... if the H is a rider, so is the h. If the H is a leopard so is the h .... so why take a level playing field and then have one character fall behind in line with the other one? Why take the strong makeup of a h and make her one who is happy to be the damsel in distress?
The story is well written but CF is getting repetitive ... not just in one series but in all the series she writes, her characters have started to become inter-changeable ...

Ughhhhhh....skated way too close to 50 SoG for me to enjoy this. I understand the Dom/Sub lifestyle is a way of life for some people...but I am not one of them. But I can't wait to see where we go with Emma and Val's romance. Please, please let that be a good well written story. Emma isn't an innocent virgin and does an assassin's job, so hopefully she will be written as a grown woman in the contemporary world, able to stand beside her man versus behind him..with a negligee on and nothing else or a bra and panty set with all the important bits uncovered...omg...I cringed at that description. *eye-roll* I made myself finish this clichéd mess because I wanted the Val/Emma storyline background.

I would give this book ten stars of I could!

Christine Feehan's fourth book the Shadow Riders series, Shadow Warrior, is a superb reading experience. There is action from the very first chapter, opening with Vittorio Ferarro thwarting a planned kidnapping of a young woman Grace Murphy, who turns out to be one fiery heroine an potential shadow rider mate.

I loved Grace from the moment she enters the story, she has been locked in a trunk of a car, to be delivered to murderous, misogynistic thugs by her loser, dependent step-brother as a payment for his gambling debt. Grace does not go submissively; she literally comes out the trunk of the car like a tornado. When Vittorio intervenes, Grace throws herself in the path of a bullet meant for him. From this point, the story is a rush to save Grace's life and take down the villains who think of nothing to take a woman for their own vile use.

Vittorio spends the rest of the book caring for the independent Grace who does not want to put anyone else in the path of her psycho brother. Vittorio really has to convince Grace, who runs her own successful business, that Vittorio's image as a wastrel billionaire playboy is a front for what his family actually does, bring justice to human monsters.

My heart was hammering the entire book, the focus of the story was on the resolution of who is actually behind the sabotage attacks on the Ferraro family, stopping a sociopathic killer who has held Grace's movements as near hostage, and the family dynamics that threaten to be a catalyst of a war between the Ferraro's and their long-time nemesis, the Saldi crime family.

I loved this book, with Grace recuperating from a gunshot injury, there was no consummation scene until well past the hallway point of the story, Vittorio was focused on courting Grace and being open enough to gain her trust. For me, heroines make or break whether I love the story because it's a really fine line for authors to make the female appear strong without being a wild-eyed shrew or a needy, traumatized doormat. Too often for my liking, authors trip themselves up and the woman character comes across as either a self-centered harpy or irritating twit.

Thankfully, Grace was an intelligent, resilient, compassionate heroine who complimented Vittorio in every way. Despite the vast inequity in their wealth and family, (she was an orphan who grew up in foster homes), she did not need him to take care of her and was not impressed by his wealth. Grace was confident enough in her own proven abilities to stand at his side as an equal partner.

It was wonderful to see the family interacting and working together to welcome Grace into their fold as they try to negotiate a semblance of truce with the smarmy criminal Saldi family. It was a nice twist to bring in a fascinating character and member of another shadow rider family, the enigmatic and powerful Archambaults. Emmanuelle Ferraro should have waited for a man like Elie Archambault instead being such a fool to ever consider giving up everything, all her training and calling, for a man, that insipid Valentino Saldi; no wonder her mother, Eloisa, was so hard on her only daughter for acting like a lovesick cow.

I hope to see more of Elie Archambault and hope he finds a grand heroine like Grace. I love seeing such extraordinary women come into the Ferraro family and making the clan stronger. Even mean, derisive dragon mum Eloisa fought to protect Grace when it mattered most. I'm only bummed about having to wait another year to find out which Ferarro story will be next.

The Ferraro family are the cream of Chicago society. Having any of them attend your social function guarantees success and reinforces that the upper echelon of society support you.

Vittorio Ferraro is the bad boy of the Ferraro family. Never dating the same woman twice, he still has his pick of any woman who catches his eye. He is the consummate playboy persona though he's not anything like what the public sees.

Grace Murphy works for the number one event planning company in the region. Hiring KB Events guarantees success. As the owner's personal assistant, Grace works behind the scenes to perfect all details, no matter how minute.

When Vittorio happens to see Grace in the process of being kidnapped behind the family's club, he intervenes though she is critically injured in the rescue process.

Two people who have been at the same events multiple times but never met in person, it takes only a second for Vittorio to realize that Grace is his forever mate that he's been searching for his entire life. She will heal, she has to. Vittorio will have it no other way.

Taking control is something Vittorio's used to and will continue to do to assure Grace's ongoing safety as her life remains in danger. He and his family will pool their resources to find the threat though Grace's foster brother Haydon Phillips makes it known he's the only one who can really keep her safe and demands she be released into his custody.

* * *

This is the 4th installment in the "Shadow" series that can be read as a standalone. Each installment features a different member of the Ferraro family who are paranormal beings able to shift and ride shadows and dark tubes in their ongoing fight to dispense justice to those who have escaped the legal system for their crimes.

Vittorio & Grace. They have chemistry though the actual story is a slow burn buildup sort of thing. The story does includes adult content erotica scenes that for all practical purposes can be tagged as BDSM though the author goes out of her way avoid traditional BDSM norms. I guess (and this is my own opinion) doing that doesn't antagonize readers who have issues with BDSM or maybe it's a lack of research by the author into BDSM. I just noticed that if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, one can't label it a bald eagle with any real believeability. It's for that reason and my own problematic issue in the way the erotic scenes were portrayed that I downrated the story as a whole.

Secondary characters. Characters featured in previous installments return in varied degrees but do not detract from a potential reader enjoyment if one hasn't read previous. I am so looking forward to Emmanuelle's story as the author has thrown a wrench love triangle teaser that has me intrigued.

My issues. The story does have voids and incomplete details though they are minor. The biggest irritant is the prolonged vague mystery teaser regarding Vittorio that transitions into an easy fix sort of solution. That and the fact that the actual relationship was obvious as a BDSM lifestyle situation no matter how it was presented. The thing is that is a dangerous situation as someone feeling they fit and would like to seek out a similar relationship doesn't have all the facts.

A solid read that is easy to follow and enjoyable to read. Recommended for fans of this author and series as long as it's realized this is a fictional fantasy paranormal erotic romance.

Shadow Warrior by Christine Feehan is the 4th book in her wonderful Shadow Riders series. As I have mentioned before, I love this series, as the premise though paranormal, it is different and fantastic. Refresher: Shadow riders have the ability to blend themselves to the shadows wherever they are, making themselves invisible to anyone. They have been in existence for centuries, with all members of their families trained to use those abilities. The family runs a legitimate business; they use their ability to help others in need to solve various problems and dispense justice. They are an extremely powerful and close-knit family that is totally loyal to one another, also protecting the people that in live in their community.

Vittorio Ferraro is our hero in Shadow Warrior. We meet Vittorio when he is privately thinking that his brothers have all found their mates, but accepts the fact that this will never happen to him. Vittorio is tough, dominant and knows no woman would ever meet his standards. When he feels vibes that something is wrong and pulling him to go to their club, he comes across some gang members in the club, who are not allowed there. He then tries to come the rescue of the gangsters pushing a young guy into giving them his girl as collection for a big debt; and all hell breaks loose. The girl is seriously hurt, and Vittorio manages to bring in help, and get the girl to the hospital.

Grace Murphy, our heroine, wakes up in the hospital after having major surgeries, and sees Vittorio, whom she only knew from afar. As she goes in and out of conscious, she over hears him tell the doctor and nurses that he is her fiancée, and with each passing day, still unable to communicate well, Grace sees that Vittorio stays with her constantly. He tells her he will take care of her, and to use the guise of being his fiancée to keep her safe. But Vittorio knows that Grace, unbeknownst to her, is a shadow rider, and his mate; he has no intention of letting her go, but has to convince Grace that she is meant for him.

When he gets to take her home, with all the Ferraro’s working together to keep her safe from the boy (who grew up with her in foster homes, and is like a brother; but a very dangerous and mentally ill person). The entire Ferraros are pulled into trying not only to keep Grace safe, but also to keep all members of their family safe from this crazy violent ‘brother’. They also have to deal with the Saldi crime family, who started this all by having some of their men at the club and involved in the shooting. There is a lot of violence, and the Ferraros are determined to not become involved in a war.

While this is going on, Grace slowly recuperates, and over a short period of time, she finds herself falling in love with Vittorio, as well as getting used to his dominance. Grace was a great heroine, and even though she put up with her bad evil ‘brother’, she also helped co run a successful business. Vittorio is beside himself that this beautiful woman is made for him and though he is dominant, he is determined to marry her. Their romance heats up fast, with steamy sex scenes. More into this shortly. I did like Grace and Vittorio together, as they made a great couple. I love the whole Ferraro family, and the premise of this series is awesome. I look forward to Emme’s story, and frankly can’t stand the mother.

This was also a very sensual romance, as Feehan had a lot of sex scenes between our couple. The intense pulse pounding story was exciting, but as I stated earlier, I did feel that the sex scenes a bit too many. If you enjoy the many steamy sexual scenes that possibly takes forefront to the story, then this is perfect for you. But if you prefer more story, and a bit less sex, be warned.

What follows is an exciting adventure, where both Grace is in constant danger, and Vittorio is desperate to find the man who threatens her life; with the entire Ferraro family working hard to help find him.

What I love the most about this series is all the wonderful characters that Feehan has created. I love all of the Ferrero’s, and those they fall in love with that join the family. They are an awesome family, with amazing abilities that make this so much fun.

Shadow Warrior is a captivating, exciting, suspenseful, action packed story, with a wonderful couple that steams the pages. The storyline involving the Saldi’s remains open, and I suspect will play a large part in the next book. This is a fantastic paranormal series that you should be reading, and very well written by Christine Feehan.

YIKES! What a wild ride of a story!! As the 4th in the Shadow Rider series, there are definitely aspects that follow the formula set up such as each of the brothers and their proclivities, the whole riding the shadows and keeping it secret, family (almost mobster-ish) mentality etc. But, those are also the aspects that keeps one coming back for more.

The thing that really sets this installment apart and makes it stand WAY out is the unique, scary and kinda creepy storyline with Grace’s “brother”. Eeek! Ms. Feehan did a bang-up job of creating a character and a situation that is both riveting and nighmare-inducing. Which made the overall story one that just can’t be put down!

The romance area is a mixed-bag depending on what one enjoys. Readers who love scorchingly steamy, borderline kinky, pages (and pages) of long sex scenes (almost to the point of overwhelming the whole) will absolutely adore this romance. For those who are more interested in a romance that builds emotionally rather than sexually and prefer the story aspect of a book, will get a bit frustrated with all the pages that must be skimmed or skipped in order to continue the plot. Totally a personal preference.

SO... personally, as a plot-centric reader, the incredibly rich basis for the series, added to the extremely creative and creepy storyline in this book was well worth skimming the parts I didn’t need.

Being brutally honest, I generally only like about 50% of the books that Feehan writes. I know... I know. I can practically hear the mass gasp. Anyway, I didn't have high hopes when I went into this. The first thing I noticed was that this was not the first book in the series; however, being new to the series did not hinder my reading of this book at all because the story itself was self-contained. I FREAKING LOVED IT! I need a Vittorio. Like...pronto. He's currently reigning at the top of my book boyfriend list. So smexy. <3 Going beyond my new hero, I actually liked the plot of the story. It moved at just the right pace for me and unlike some of her other books, it didn't bore me with useless, repetitive information. I honestly, really, truly liked it and I didn't expect that going in, which might be why I feel so surprised right now?

Would I recommend? Yeppers. I plan on buying this baby in hardback ... if hardback is available? Pssst ... publishers, take note please. <3

Disclaimer: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Gah - I LOVE this series and the Ferraro family so much! The lead up to Emme and Val’s story is just about killing me, though.

Vittorio’s story was every bit as awesome as his brothers’ before him. The series is definitely not flagging as the books are piled on - just the opposite, in fact. The ramping up war between the Saldis and the Ferraros is an over arching theme that was catapulted to the front in this book.

But the main story was still that between Vittorio and Grace and why she was being targeted. It was hot and sexy and suspenseful and awesome. I loved every minute and was sad when it was done.

I was excited for this book - but it didn't make a lot of sense to me. Grace's shoulder was seriously damaged and Vittorio is making her get on her hands and knees? WTF. Don't get me wrong, the sex scenes were hot, but rather improbable for her injuries.

The Shadow Riders is such a unique series that I feel refreshed and get sucked in every time I pick up one of the books. With all the travel I've been doing, I was stoked to get to this one in the line up right before a hellish day of delayed flights and being squeezed into the tiny rows and uncomfortable seats of turbulent airplanes.

Our shadow-riding hero of this installment is Vittorio Ferraro, a strong and silent alpha male who fears he will never find his fated woman. Vittorio is demanding, protective, and knows exactly what he wants and requires from his partner. His need to be with his woman for all things could have seemed needy, but was instead worked into his dominance and alpha nature. I really liked Vittorio, and reading things from his point-of-view helped me put my own relationship in perspective at a time when I'm learning to balance my independence with being part of a couple.

Vittorio's perfect woman is Grace Murphy, an event planner with a troubled and tragic past. Grace lucks out when her abduction lands her in the path of Vittorio, as he was the one man capable of fixing her life and making her ridiculously happy. Our inexperienced and vulnerable heroine was balanced by her healthy self-esteem, intelligence and work ethic She truly seemed to be the yin to Vittorio's yang, and they complemented each other very well. I typically do not go for the inexperienced heroine, but I developed a good emotional connection with Grace in this story.

As a fated mates trope, this relationship was necessarily a insta-love situation... but one that I loved. I liked seeing the instant attraction and fascination between our couple, and really enjoyed the building of their relationship as the story progressed. The romantic plot was balanced with the serial killer targeting those close to Grace, and a possible war brewing between the Ferraro and Saldi families. The action sequences and suspense woven into the relationship-building and sexytimes kept me enthralled during the 15 hour travel day (yes you read that right!).

If you haven't started the Shadow Riders series, I don't know what you are waiting for. I can't wait for the next installment and have become very invested in some of these characters! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the publisher.

Shadow Warrior by Christine Feehan
Release Date: 06/04/2019
SKO
Some of you may know or heard of the song”Me and My Shadow”. Written in 1927 it became very popular and has been sung and recorded by numerous artists through the years. For Ferraro family shadows are a way of life. To be more precise, riding a shadow that is.
Vittorio Ferraro was tired and exhausted from his last job in Los Angeles yet a sense of danger and urgency lead him to go to the Chicago Ferraro club. Up on the top floor, third tier VIP section of the club he noticed two Soldis top enforcer from notorious Saldis crime family. He moved around in the shadows and listens to their conversation then, moved into action alerting his brothers …
Grace Murphy like everyone else knew who famous Ferraro were and she was always drawn to Vittorio Ferraro. She just never expected to meet him under these circumstances as her foster brother Haydon was trying to sell her into prostitution as a means of paying of his gambling debts.
Hayden Philips is a torturous twisted serial killer who is after Grace, dead or alive. Grace chooses to put her trust in Vittorio Ferraro and the Ferraro family, and Vittorio is determent to keep Grace save and out of the clutches of twisted serial killer at all cost.
Shadow Warrior is Christine Feehan book 4 in the Shadow series. As always Christine Feehan storyteller extraordinaire gives us a storyline packed with action, romance and suspense, and character development that left me breathless. It was wonderful revisiting some of the characters from previous three books, especially the mother Eloisa that we love to hate. Grace and Vittorio story touched me. I could not put the book down until I finished, and then read it again.
Do you want to live longer? Read a book, and as always until next time Happy Reading!

The first three books were lots of action and romance. This one felt forced and almost as if Feehan was trying to make the action and romance work around pre written sex scenes. Meh. It wasnt bad, but I felt like the serial killer was a neat plot line and it was kinda wasted here. Also, Vittorio was flat and not very interesting. So, not a bad read, just meh. Helped me kill an afternoon waiting during kids activities so there we go. Hoping for more excitement in book 5.

Shadow Warrior is the 4th book in the Shadow Rider series about the Ferraro family, who take on the business of dispensing justice when all other options fail. The 6 Ferraro siblings are bound tightly by both love and the secrets only family are privy to. The bond between the siblings is unbreakable and that story line is the bedrock of the series. The highly visible rich kids persona’s are a mask they all wear to cover the family business.

Vittorio Ferraro has been restless; wanting the family and home life he has seen his brothers, Stefano, Ricco and Giovanni start. The want and need for a woman of his own is a constant emotion, it’s the finding that is not going to be easy in his mind, his totally dominant nature will make it hard to find a woman willing to live with such a controlling man. That is until Grace Murphy explodes out of the car trunk that her foster brother had forced her into, the key turned in the lock of his heart, just as it had for his 3 older brothers!!

Grace Murphy has risen above the abuse she suffered growing up in the foster care system. The only thing still around from that time is her foster brother, once a source of protection, now a monster willing to sell Grace into prostitution for gambling debts. In the Ferraro nightclub parking lot, Vittorio rescues her from her brother's attempt to sell Grace to the Ferraro's archenemies the Saldi’s to pay the debt. In the resulting fight Grace takes a bullet meant for Vittorio!
All that in the 1st Chapter!!!

As to the foster brother, I found him to be one the Scariest villains ever in the Feehan book list and she has had some really scary villains!! I still find myself looking at vents and attic stairs with suspicion.

The Ferraro siblings captured my heart from the very first book. The love and loyalty they feel is what all families hope to achieve. The demands on their bodies and mind, the rules and restrictions of what they are makes the possibility of finding a person to love so limiting as to make it impossible to find a mate. Vittorio’s over the top dominant nature ensures in his mind that he will be the one Ferraro to stay single, while Grace’s foster brother makes it impossible for her to get close to anyone let alone fall in love. But bad guys don’t scare the Ferraro’s, it’s their duty to take them out and Vittorio will never allow a bad guy to keep Grace from him.

I tend to say this over and over again, since it’s true, it bears repeating!! Ms. Feehan is one of the most intriguing storytellers I have ever read. The world building, the suspense, emotion and anticipation from book to book are riveting. The romance scenes are hot, hot, hot as the hero’s and heroines find their way to each other. This is a definite keeper!!

I've wanted Vittorio's story from the beginning, and I'm glad it didn't disappoint. I liked him for his honesty and peacefulness. He knew the sort of man he was, and when he found Grace, he immediately let her know in case she wanted to back out. I found Grace to be incredibly strong since she had to deal with being terrorized by her former foster brother, intelligent, and kind. She really fit with Vittorio. To me, it was believable that she would be perfectly happy having him make all of the decisions when it came to their home. She needed peace and caring, and he gave that to her. Yes, I found him overbearing at times, but I liked that the author went into great detail when it came to Grace's feelings on their relationship.

I found the plot with Haydon, Grace's foster brother, very gripping. I hated him and wanted him to get what's coming to him. There was another subplot that seems to be leading with a possible war between the Ferraros and Saldis, and given the thing between Emme and Val, their book is going to be very, very angsty.

This might be tied with Ricco's book for my top favorites in the series so far. I loved that Grace and Vittorio communicated, the action was very well-done, and I hated to put this down.

Check out an EXCLUSIVE excerpt on my blog!

Shadow Warrior continues the story of the Ferraro family and their shadow walking abilities. Vittorio was kind of the wild card brother (to me, anyway). I never quite got a good read on him-he is quite and subdued. That changed dramatically in Shadow Warrior!

Vittorio is a Dom. At first, he alludes to never being able to find a woman who would be willing to meet his needs. He said this multiple times and I was starting to get scared about what exactly he was into that was strange. But, as it unfolds, I think he is just very dominate. He isn't into pain or anything like that, but he is controlling. However, its not BAD controlling and you recognize quickly that he would never do something his lover didn't enjoy. For readers who are skep about Dom/Sub stuff, I think this is a great example of the practice used in a healthy relationship. Maybe I'm wrong (I don't know much about it, and I haven't really read much BDSM), but I thought Feehan's approach to this aspect of Vittorio's personality was well handled. While Vittorio and Grace's relationship isn't for me, it worked for both of them and you can see that throughout the story.

Grace is a woman who gives off the appearance of having her life together. She works for a very popular event planner and she is the person behind the scenes that makes everything run flawlessly. But her personal life has been hell since childhood. Her foster brother was truly terrifying and his presence added a layer of genuine fear to the story.

Finally, there is lots of allusions regarding Emmanuelle and I'm hoping her book is next. But, there is an allusion to Taviano and his true love as well. There is some drama with a local crime family that has been brewing for awhile now, and all this goes on while Vittorio and Grace are dealing with Haydon. Shadow Warrior was captivating from the start and it never let up with its blend of danger and sensuality.

Excellent addition to the Shadow Rider series!

I always enjoy returning to the world of the Shadow Riders, and the Ferraro family. Shadow Warrior engaged my attention from the first page. Vittorio is one of my favorite Ferraro's, and I've waited patiently for his story to be told. Vittorio's the "Peacekeeper", of the family, but when the ones he loves are threatened , he's a man of action. That threat comes in the form of Grace's foster brother, Haydon, who happens to be a serial killer, and wants to control Grace's life, and keep her isolated.

Vittorio's a dominant, and has certain needs that he thinks no woman will submit too. Grace's more about happy to meet Vittorio half way in their developing relationship. She has moments of insecurity because of the lack of love shown to her in the foster care system. But, her confidence grows throughout the story. Vittorio loves her, and had no problem showing her how lonely he is. One thing I liked is that Grace had her own business, and money. She runs a business during the day, and had no problem with giving Vittorio what he needs in their relationship when they're alone. It's a nice balance.

The Ferraro family including Eliosa made frequent appearances. I enjoyed seeing another man besides Val, give Emme the attention that she needs.

I can see an attempt of a takeover in the Saldi family, and the Ferraros being set up to take the blame IF, Giuseppe is killed. I'm looking forward to a possible turf war, and finding out who the true enemy is.

I’m so tired of this.

Okay, is it just me, or has the story gone out of Ms. Feehan’s books? They now just seem to be a vehicle for how many sexually explicit scenes she can weave into the narrative. I’m getting tired of the story - and characters - suffering because a large chunk of the book seems to be dedicated to having them constantly hooking up.

Definitely rethinking having Feehan on my auto buy list.

Vittorio Ferraro has a feeling something isn't right. When he witnesses men who are banned from the family club there he listens in and follows. He must keep her safe. Grace Murphy is fighting mad after being kidnapped. She must over come her fears from dealing with a dangerous man for years. Can they love each other unconditionally when the truth of the Shadow Warrior is revealed?

Vittorio Ferraro's family aren't what they seem. Everyone thinks that he and his brothers are rich entitled playboys but the really belong to a very small select group of crime fighters called shadow riders. He's very close to his family and they've been training since they were 2 years old. He thinks he's destined to a loveless arranged marriage. He's got very specific qualifications for a wife. But when he see and hears Grace he knows she's the one for him. Vittorio saves her from a very dangerous situation and immediately starts calling her his fiance. He doesn't leave her side and takes her home after an attempt on her life. He must be patient and tries to hold back his feelings for her with no luck. He & his siblings were basically raised by oldest brother so there is a strained relationship with their mother. Their mother has been known to interfere in the siblings relationships and Vittorio is no exception. He must regroup when his mother mentions the criteria needed for a Ferraro wife. As Grace heals she and Vittorio become closer and discuss what a relationship would be like between them. Grace reveals her feelings and a secret about her business. They have a very strong attraction to each other. A possible war with a crime family in Chicago leads to a meeting and an attempt on someone's life. When an innocent bystander is killed they try to solve the murder, and keep the peace with the other family. Bodies of the people who had a hand in the crime family's clandestine business meetings in the family owned club start showing up dead at Ferraro family owned businesses. Also a set of twin young women go missing. Grace and Vittorio cement their bond and he must reveal the secret he's been keeping from Grace since his mother's slip of the tongue.

Grace's always been attracted to Vittorio from a distance and their lives together feels like a fairytale. Being an event planner she's in charge of getting clients what they want. Growing up in foster care was no picnic and one of her homes was very abusive. She and her foster brother Haydon Phillips had to protect each other for several years. It made him become obsessed with her and running her life for the past ten years. Grace saves Vittorio from being shot when he helps to break up the transaction of her being turned over to crime family enforcers as payment for Haydon's gambling debts. She had to take out loans to pay his gambling debts. Haydon would show her pictures of people to keep her in line and she is convinced that he has killed people connected to her but has no proof. The only person that makes her feel safe is Vittorio but she's reluctant to get involved because of the articles she's read about him. Her life becomes surreal when she finally meets and starts spending time with the man of her fantasies. With his help she starts to over come the fear that Haydon has had her in for the past several years. The more time she spends with the Ferraro family the more she wants to become a part of it and Vittorio's life. She knows he's still keeping a secret from her and he tells her what his family really does for a living and that Grace is also a shadow rider too.

They must work together to stop a serial killer who's obsessed with Grace. Can they stop the man who has terrified her for years? Will the Ferraro family be able to keep the peace with who everyone considers their rivals in Chicago? Can Vittorio convince Grace that they're meant to be together? Will Grace accept who she really is? Will their love and immeasurable attraction be enough to keep them together for life.

**4.5 Stars**

The Shadow Rider series is one of Christine Feehan’s newer series, and I think it’s underrated. I love the concept of a mob-like family in Chicago who ride shadows and kill people (what does that say about me?) not your typical romance series setting for sure! Each book is wholly unique to any of her other series and lets Ms. Feehan play a little bit.

Vittorio is an excellent example of a dominant Feehan hero who wasn’t a complete jerk-face. He’s very self-aware about how difficult and dominant he is. In fact, he is more nervous for Grace in the relationship than he is for himself. He loves and respects Grace so much and doesn’t want to smother her with his personality. Will everyone appreciate the dynamic between Grace and Vittorio? Probably not. But I loved it. I never felt that Grace was a doormat for going along with what Vittorio wanted.

CF made Vittorio and Grace’s relationship acceptable because it was all consensual. I love that V didn’t try to dominate Grace’s life before he laid out all the facts for her. If she had really not wanted the lifestyle he was into, he would have let her find someone who worked better for her, even if it hurt him. That action alone puts him towards the top of my Feehan heroes. I will say this book wasn’t nearly as kinky as I was expecting, but I think the steam level and the number of love scenes was perfect for the story, and I don’t always say that about Feehan novels.

If you don’t like insta-love goodness, this story isn’t for you. If you’re ready for intense family drama, smoking hot love scenes, and one of the evilest villains Feehan has ever written, this book is for you.

The only thing that knocked this down a half star was the anti-climactic end to the main suspense plot. I expected a little bit more. Plus I think Emme is going to end up with Val and I really hope not, because I hate him, she deserves better.

Overall, this is going towards the top of the 70+ Feehan novels I’ve read. I loved it. I have been a loyal Feehan fan for years, and with every new book, she rewards that faith with a fantastic read. I can’t wait to find out which Ferraro family member will get a book next!
