An Invitation from God for Belonging and Love Every one of us is made in the image of God. We are unique, we are worthy of love, and we are called to greatness. In this world, though, it can be easy to be distracted from that truth and begin to doubt God’s love is real. We live in a world that tells us we are not smart enough, not pretty enough, not sexy enough, not rich enough, not thin enough, and don’t have enough friends. It’s easy to focus on the ways we fall short of worldly perfection and to forget that we are already made perfect. We are already enough. God has made each of us for a unique purpose, and he calls each of us to know him in unique ways. In a world where everything feels fleeting and temporary, we are made for everlasting life; we are meant to experience God’s abiding love. You Are Enough uses the timeless tales of the Bible to clarify that truth for modern women. ● See how God’s love for each of us shines forth through the stories of the women of the Old Testament. ● Connect with the hopes, dreams, struggles, and experiences of these remarkable women. ● Learn how the lives of these women contain valuable lessons for our lives today. ● Find hope and encouragement as you discover that you are enough, you are accepted for who you are as a beloved daughter of God.
The vastly different culture of the women who lived in Old Testament times can sometimes make the stories seem distant. This book helped to break down the stories to their integral parts that always showed God’s infinite love and care for each woman. This was then connected beautifully to current day by the author and reaffirmed the truth that God cares about us and we are enough.
Overall, a wonderful book for Christian women. The reason I did not give this book a higher rating was because of the general stereotyping of women and men. There was quite a bit of language that put men and women in different categories, clearly the author's view point of the world. Other than that, I found this book to be an encouraging pick me up on the days that I needed encouragement.
Read this as part of a Catholic women’s book club. Let me preface this with, I am not Catholic. Did that impact my rating? I’m not sure or is it that I just didn’t connect with it because I didn’t feel a lot of the “I’m not enough” feelings that the author assumes all women feel.
I enjoyed the friendship and conversations each week with the other women in the book club and appreciated their interpretations and feelings about the book. However, I often felt like I had very different feelings than most or was not affected by many chapters as they didn’t fit into my life.
I’m sure many women, especially Catholic women, would truly enjoy this book and get a lot from it. I can see if you feel overwhelmed, sad, anger, or doubt about your place in your life that there are chapters in this or even the whole book that will bring you understanding and hope that you are enough.
I was looking for an easy to read book on the lives of women in the Old Testament. I’ve read so many scholarly works, and I wanted something relaxing and reflective that would also help me become more familiar with the OT. I was interested in the stories of women in the OT because I wanted to feel connected to God’s word and the best way I thought to do that was to be connected to the stories of other women in the Bible. It helped me a great deal! The stories of sorrow, childlessness, miracle births, and courage from scripture were introduced first by the author’s own personal stories which helped give me an emotional connection to stories I’ve already heard many times. I’d say this is a simple and satisfying book which anyone can read!
This was my daughter’s selection for my 2023 read list. It was the last of my family’s selections to my list that I read but certainly not the least. Easy to read and very thought provoking, the author discusses several women of the Old Testament and what we can learn from their faith in God and devotion to family. It’s been a while since I’ve thought about the women of the Old Testament and this book reminded me of how strong, cunning, devoted, and yes, manipulative, those women could be! Interesting and contemplative this book was a perfect book to start the Advent Season.
When I started reading this book I had just finished a Bible Study on the women of the Bible. I inwardly asked myself, "what could I possibly learn after taking such a deep dive?" The answer: a lot! Danielle knocks it out of the park. Instead of focusing on the selected women in chronological order, she pairs them up with a lesson that they teach us. Some of the pairings were so unlikely that I found myself shaking my head in wonder that they worked together so well. The book offers just the right amount of historical background, humor, inspiration, and challenge. Danielle writes honestly about the struggles women face (even the hard, ugly ones), yet leaves you encouraged to find your worth as a daughter of God. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and it will go on my shelf for anytime I need a dose of healthy encouragement.
I ordered a bunch of books from Ascension Press back as we went into quarantine. You see, I had given up ebooks for Lent. This is my first Danielle Bean book but it will not be my last.
Danielle's writing style had me wondering what woman from the Old Testament could cast a shining light on an area of my life next as I read from chapter to chapter.
This book was incredible and totally a worth it read!! There was different faucets in here of stories that blew me away. Each woman was different and knew her identity in God. It was amazing to read and very inspirational. I recommend this to all women who struggle with comparison, jealousy and insecurities. This book will change your perspective of your own identity in God.
The author uses tales of women in the Old Testament to provide examples of how God sees you.
Not sure that I got the same reaction and understanding from the readings that the author did. But I do agree that women need not compare themselves to others and feel like they fall short because of a perceived thought of what is perfect.
Read this in one day...planned to only read the first two chapters for a book study I have starting with it soon. So good I couldn’t put it down. Many aspects of the book truly left a place in my heart to ponder...God made us all perfect, we just need to listen to him and lean on him. We can show great courage and overcome adversity with his assistance. I look forward to participating in a book study with this book and hopefully reading other books by Bean in the future.
Great book! Takes the reader through stories of the women in the Bible and makes them relatable. Gives those struggling with feeling like they are falling short a new definition of what it means to be a Woman and a Daughter of God.
What an inspiring book. What a comfort for any woman feeling less than. This is a keeper by the way it brings in every aspect of a woman's life and challenges. We. Are ALL women of worth.
I really loved this book. Danielle’s writing style is so easy to connect to and down to earth. I especially enjoyed Danielle’s take on the many Old Testament women she wrote about. She drew out aspects of their stories I’d never considered before.
The first two chapters were pretty intense and seemed like she was an outsider looking in. Then when the stories got more personal it felt more authentic. I wish it got deeper into the biblical characters, it felt a bit surface level.
This was part of my Lenten journey this year. I was hoping for a bit more insight into women of the bible, but it turned out to be more reflections of the author. It was fine, just not exactly what I had in mind when I picked it up.
Read as a women's Catholic book club choice. It was easy to read and learned more about women in the Bible. Especially liked when the author included personal stories related to the character discussed in the chapter.
I really enjoyed the practical biblical reminders of the value of all women. In our modern society it’s refreshing to have a better understanding and acceptance of how God made us for our own unique call to sanctity.
This quick read is a helpful reminder that the challenges we face in our lives as women are not unique, that women have lived versions of the same stories for centuries. Danielle draws analogies between our modern lives and those of the women in the Old Testament.
This book is excellent as an introduction to different women in the Bible and how those women symbolize stories and character traits in us. The book just skims the surface and lacks depth and diversity.
Just an okay Bible study. I felt like it was pretty repetitive. Did like the comparisons to different women in the Bible and how their situations relate to today's situations.
Loved this book!! One of my favorites this year! I’ve already loaned it out to a friend. SOOO many times I felt the author was speaking what was in my heart.
