It's a decent, entertaining read. Good depiction of a character being driven to question their own sanity. Tense, uncomfortable and I was curious about what would happen next. Unfortunately, I feel I want to dock a star because ultimately the whole thing boils down to the bad guy and his accomplice just being loony-tunes and because the planned sequel where you presumably learn what happened to the protagonist's sister was never published. Or at least I haven't found any evidence of it. So that loose end is never wrapped up.

Yeah, so Ashford has done this before? Why? What does he want to get out of this elaborate charade? Not just sex. There's this whole thing about him saying he is a god or satan or whatever. But what is his motive? Even people who aren't thinking rationally have some sort of motive. You can't just explain his whole complicated setup as him being crazy.

So, yeah. Decent but simple read dragged down by a pretty major flaw and having the planned sequel not released. Recommend for a quick beach read. If we can ever go to the beach again. Maybe that's how you inject more horror. Finish it, quick! Before the virus gets you! Also, there were no ghosts. This was the equivalent of it being old man Jenkins in a funny mask. I really wanted a ghost.
