Makayla Copeland has adjusted to life as a single mother but seeing a diamond ring on the finger of the woman he'd had an affair with, hurt in places she didn’t know existed. The thought of ever trusting—let alone loving—someone again was incomprehensible, until Makayla discovered Dawson Hooper was back in town. Dawson was the one man she could never resist.
Dawson moved his daughter to his home state after more than seventeen years away to be near his family; but, coming home means living up close with painful memories. He hadn’t realized how deeply he’d buried his feelings for Makayla until he saw her beautiful face. Years ago, Mak had been his whole world and he’d destroyed what they’d had together by leaving her without saying goodbye.
Through their daughters’ friendship, Makayla and Dawson are brought together once again. Makayla forced to face the past before she can settle into Dawson’s arms. When she discovers the secret behind his disappearance, she’ll have to decide if she can love the man Dawson is today and forgive the boy who broke her heart.
Makayla struggles to pick up the pieces of her life after her divorce. Her ex-husband doesn’t seem to have any trouble at all as he parades his new fiancé on front of Makayla and their two children. She is thrown another curve ball when her first love returns to town. She’s never quite forgotten how Dawson unexpectedly walked out of her young life without an explanation. Dawson has been through so much in his life and has taken the storms like a cowboy should. He bares it all on his broad shoulders single handed. When Makayla’s daughter is running barrels in the same rodeo as Dawson’s, the two are reunited and all of the confusing feelings emerge.
This story was short but cute. If you don't like things falling into place too neatly, then this may not be the book for you. I enjoyed the sweet romance and how these MCs overcame obstacles. There was a little bit of the faith element thrown in, appropriately, and the story is clean. If you love sweet, contemporary romance with a side of inspiration, you might enjoy reading this book.
