The mission Jonah White Eagle and his Fierce Eagle Company had taken was nearly impossible. Land on the middle of a 7.5-mile-high plateau, walk six miles to the edge of the cliff, and scale down the 39,000-foot-high cliffs to the foothills of the canyon below. Nothing to it, right? But then there was the swamp they had to cross, full of large indigenous life forms that thought Humans made good snacks. And the rivers, full of other killers, they would have to negotiate.
And then there were the Xlatan, a race of six-legged killers guarding the target. A relatively new mercenary race, although one more established than the Humans, the Xlatan were supposed to be tough. Maybe not—quite—as tough as the Besquith, but close enough to give a number of other merc races the chills when they went up against them.
The Fierce Eagle Company only needed to traverse the planet, stay alive, and then surveil the operation the Xlatan were guarding to gather intelligence for the CASPer-equipped merc company that was enroute to destroy the operation.
The mission would have been nearly impossible, all on its own. There’s just one more thing, though, that they don’t know. They’ve been set up, and the heavy forces aren’t coming.

This 5th installment has been completely exhausting, traversing deadly encounters and setbacks, action grilled with every turn and twisted discoveries! A thrilling and grueling journey! And there’s a Tanzanian Born character, like me! What are the odds! Lol. I am voluntarily leaving a review with no obligation of an advance copy I received from the author.
Another book in the 4HU universe as it's become to be known. It deals with a small Merc company hired to infiltrate an enemy held world, and scout a base for a separate group of Mercs in CASPRs to come and attack.
After getting shot down in their shuttle as they head towards their landing zone, the Fierce Eagle company re-groups, and begins the long journey to the enemy base. The enemy Xlatan, a six-legged combination of centaur and tiger, are hunting them after realising they survived the shuttle crash.
After a series of narrow escapes, and after meeting up with the natives of the world who are being used as slaves by the crime syndicate the Xlatan work for, will the survivors be able to plan an attack on the base?
I liked this book, but it didn't really have any real tension in it. The Mercs were always going to make it to the base, even though more than once I thought they'd been caught or stymied by the enemy. The characters were mostly interesting, and I'd have loved to have had a little back story on them all and how they came to be in the company. Doug originally wrote a short story for one of the anthologies, and this novel is a continuation of that story.
The author has been honing his craft with a few other series. Empire at War is a favorite of mine, with the related series machine wars. And another series had modern weapons with a Tolkien type world they had escaped too. This was his best book yet. Great character development, mental processes / reasons for actions, and lots of action.
This book is a great addition to the Four Horseman Universe. It shows us that small unit skills are as important as CASPers. If you like the Four Horseman Universe you should enjoy this.
What a book. The mission Jonah and his men have taken on is nearly impossible to complete. Kept me intrigued. Even though a small company of men, but extremely important. Received a free copy and reviewed because the story was absolutely fantastic.
Anothrr good addition to the Four Horsemen titles. This is very much in the mold of Avatar meets the Dirty Dozen. Every one of these books are a nugget of action and good storytelling
Very well thought out and detailed book. If you enjoy the four horsemen universe then please read this book. Expands on the light infantry side of the universe in a well written and we'll formatted story line
Dandridge has penned an excellent addition to the Four Horseman universe. Plenty of spec ops action, far different from the usual CASPR stories. Highly recommend. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Six legged cats, sorta frogs stuck in a bad situation, twenty humans experienced in war. Put it in a blender with a good writer and you get a good story! I'd write more but it's past my bedtime.
I’ve been working on this series (Four Horsemen) for a couple of weeks now and I have been pleased with most of the books so far. This one’s probably the best one yet. Bainbridge is a solid writer with an excellent command of the English language.
I really enjoyed this, good story, action packed with good characters. Excitement, adventure and sorrow in equal measure. I hope there is more to come from the Eagles.
As a “no-win scenario”. Good read, Dandridge clearly knows his military tactics. I don’t know if the Fierce Eagles will show up again, but I’d read it if they did.
