Dr. Janie Hartlin could’ve been the woman of my dreams—hells, she is the woman of my dreams—but I clawed my way through life on the streets, and now I have nothing to offer her but a share of my bedroll, military rations, and the life of a guns, fangs, and claws-for-hire mercenary.
I didn’t need the hot-as-hells buzz of our awesome three-part bond to prove that Janie’s the only woman for me.
The question is, am I the man for her?
Janie:
Regime soldiers are hot on my heels with laser guns pointed at my back. I snooped into their secret project and discovered they’re engineering a shifter army they’ll use to exterminate the Resistance. Curiosity killed the cat, right? Or, in my case, the cougar. Because, eight years younger than me, Leo is the cat shifter of my wildest fantasies.
Fleeing across a desert is more exercise than any girl needs. Falling into an armor spider nest only makes things worse.
Until Leo rescues me. One touch, and my body’s on fire.
Christina Wilder writes books featuring cocky-beta heroes (is that a thing?) and kick-ass heroines who find love together in strange and exotic places.
She lives in the wilds of New England, where turkeys and deer on the front lawn are a regular thing.
[...] Act professional. I’d bent forward to examine his thighs when I realized I was eye-level with his other enormous parts. Parts that were rapidly growing bigger. More adrenalin reaction? Flustered, excited, as well as a bit raw and vulnerable, I straightened and stared up at him. -Sorry. I…was making sure you were okay. What in all hells should I do? My face must be redder than the sunset on an evening before a cyclone. But, but…he’d called me bondmate. Did I dare pass up this opportunity to find out if it was true? [...] Please, gods, don’t let this feeling be one-sided. -Even if I hovered near death,- he said softly. - I’d still be aware of you. Every word, gesture. Every breath. [...] -Starving doesn’t necessarily equate with a shortage of gratitude or lack of moral compass. Sometimes it’s important to let people do what they’re able, even if it’s to their own detriment.- She jerked the backpack upright, a grimace crossing her face. I’d made sure the bulk of supplies were in my pack, so it was damn heavy. -Of course, being wealthy and fortunate doesn’t necessarily help one’s moral compass find true north, either. My father can trace his lineage back to Ventriome.- She flicked a hand toward her face. -Hence, the eyes. He came from one of the most privileged families there, yet it seems that he feels no need to share the fortune of his birth. [...]
Book 1 was just as good as book 2 to me, which I read back to back. Oh and I'm learning you can't count on previous reviews for validity of events in books. I expected Leo to make a huge faux pas in his story and he didn't. Shame on the one that submitted the lie.
Another great fast paced story that was fun and sexy. I enjoyed the little twists and turns along the way and look forward to read the other characters stories next.
Another excellent book in what's shaping up to be an excellent series! I really loved Leo and Janie's story. It has heart, heat, and a happily ever after. So, when will book 3 be available?
Somehow, Christina and Laney have perfected fun, fast-pace action, with a hot and emotional romance. I loved Leo and Janie's story. Two people with less-than-perfect pasts who find a wonderful HEA in the arms of each other.
Read with Kindle Unlimited. Not quite 3 & 1/2 stars. Definitely liked book 1 better than this one. Something about Leo & Janie's story wasn't as appealing to me as book 1 was. The ending left me angry, because it seemed like the author was told to try to add some pages to make the book longer, & came up with some stupid communications drama between Leo & everyone else (Janie & Herc) to make this happen. I don't know, the couple never really felt connected romantically in spite of the "bond" thing. I'll probably read book 3, but I'm not really sure about the series in general at this point.
A must read for shifter and action romance lovers. Leo and Janie as as different as steak and oranges, she is a Dr and he is a mercenary. When he rescues her and their first touch tells them they are bondmates, those changes mean little. As the fight the harsh conditions, the man eating animals and the army, they must complete the 3 steps of the bond. I could not put it down from the first to last word.
First off, I want to that I hate cliff- hangers. After everything Jamie and Leo went through at the compound and in the desert and not know if he gets his lion back. Plus, they think they have lost another brother. Really?
I enjoyed this story. Janie and Leo were a great couple. The world building continues to be fascinating and exciting. I hope that the guys finally get to inform their government about the regime's experiments so they can live free and clear with their bond mates. The overall story is fantastic and just as compelling as the love story. I would recommend this book and this series.
