Be BIG: Step Up, Step Out, Be Bold

Rate this book
Too many people have decided that the safest way to get through life is to be small. They try not to attract attention to themselves, just tending their own safe little garden. They’ve decided it’s too dangerous to think big, to speak out, to take risks. They might get shot down. Or look foolish. People will think they’re just not good enough.

But, particularly today, organizations need people to step up and be BIG. We need new ideas, new products, new processes. People have to bring more of themselves to the workplace, to contribute more, and to have a bigger impact on the success of the organization.

This inspiring illustrated book challenges all of us to show up more fully as individuals and in our interactions with others and to find ways to be BIG together. In straightforward, incisive language, Judith Katz and Frederick Miller help us understand all of the many, sometimes subtle ways we make ourselves small. They show how we make others small as well and how these same attitudes can keep us from working together effectively. And they encourage us to nourish new attitudes that will make us, our coworkers, and our organizations bigger.

Be BIG invites us to bring more of ourselves to each situation—whether working independently, with another individual, or with a group—so that we can do our best work together.

This is is a quick and easy read that my workplace encouraged us all to pick up. It may not be the most groundbreaking read, and isn't something I likely would've picked up on my own, but it offers valuable reminders and encouragement to push beyond limitations in a professional setting (though it can apply to personal life, too).

Be BIG emphasizes the importance of stepping out of your comfort zone, embracing bold actions, and fostering inclusive environments. Judith Katz and Fred Miller provide clear and actionable advice, supported by real-world examples and anecdotes. The straightforward writing style makes it accessible and easy to follow, perfect for a quick read during a busy workweek.

While I appreciated the book's practical tips and motivational tone, some of the concepts felt a bit repetitive, and I found myself wanting deeper insights or more nuanced discussions. However, the book's structure and brevity make it a useful tool for those looking to quickly gain some inspiration and strategies for personal development.

The goal of inspiring others to be better human beings so they'll be better employees has become an industry in itself. This book hits it's mark by being a PowerPoint deck in booklet form It's textual sound bites that if read with the desire to glean something of personal use, will inspire thought and perhaps action. As always it's easy to talk about teamwork making the dream work bit it's quite another to live it when there's power washing, painting, and welding to get done.I like this book because it encourages us to fully respect the talents humanity can unleash while leaving the time management up to you.

هذا النوع من الكتب لا يروق لي قرأته لتحقيق شرط في أحد التحديات، خفيف جدًا يحتوي على نقاط بسيطة مناسب للصغار المبتدئين في القراءة.
