Enigma #9

I Married a Mob Boss

Rate this book
I thought waking up hungover with no recollection of the previous twenty-four hours was going to be the worst thing I’d encounter during my whirlwind trip to Vegas. It wasn’t... not even close. Not only did I wake up in a strange room with a gold band wrapped around my finger, I witnessed something no woman should ever see. If that wasn’t unscrupulous enough, the unspeakable act was done by my husband; the stranger I married.

With freshly signed alimony papers and a guilt-riddled heart, I left Vegas praying that what happens in Vegas truly does stay in Vegas. My hope was left for dust when the small fragment of my life I tried to forget collided into the present.

Can the guarded, tortured man I married keep me safe when he is the one I need protecting from the most?

A heart-clutching, spine-tingling romantic suspense story that will have you gasping until your very last breath.

Wish I read this first...

I read the Russian Mob Chronicles first then this. I wish I had found this first. It explained some of the dynamics better to set up the series. It was also anticlimactic because I already know what was going to happen.

Oh well it was a good read. Lots of action, sex, betrayal, and mob stuff.

I Married a Mob Boss by Shandi Boyes a five-star read I would gladly wed. This is the ninth book in the Enigma series, but it can be read as a stand-alone, but I have read it as part of the series and it was amazing, just when you think you know what’s going on boom Shandi Boyes knocks it out of the park and makes you wonder if you really hated the person you did when you first started the story. That was me with Rico, I would have punched him in the face when the story first started, but then I was all over the place with him, I was crying and then I hated him again, then I loved him then I wanted to marry the guy, then he had me crying again. Shandi Boyes you create amazing men.
Blaire is a woman who when we first meet her is a kindergarten teacher and by the end she has been a mob wife and life will never be the same again. Blaire is a woman who you would know to say hi to on the street, she is someone you would want to be friends with again a character you can easily identify with. This talent of writing characters that you want in your life makes Shandi Boyes one of the authors I need in my life.
If you are looking for a great read that’s full of drama with some funny and sexy thrown in this is a read for you, and if you are in the mood for an amazing series then check the whole Enigma series out, you won’t be disappointed.

Blaire wakes up in Vegas and is shocked to find herself hitched to a Russian mob boss named Rico. She naively thinks divorce is a quick way to disentangle herself from the mob ties.

This author must have taken a page from FSoG writer because 1.) Blaire overthinks everything and 2.) everyone is smirking. Everyone. Is. Smirking. “With a predatory smirk etched on his mouth...”, "My lips tug into a lewd smirk.” Next line over, “Smirking a grin that sets my pulse racing..”. Ack! Okay we get it! Every character has botched smirks permanently etched onto their faces!!!

I had hoped that this was a real magia book with real characters but sadly for me this book was not. I DNF’ed at 22%.

I would not recommend nor will I continue reading the series.

How is this getting 5 stars??

I’m a sucker for a good mafia romance book.
But this book just wasn’t good.. harsh but the truth.

Our leading lady seems to purr quite a bit that I was starting to think this was a werewolf book or something. And is quite the whiner.

The writing is eh. More along the lines of a beginner wattpad author.
The plot wasn’t well thought out and most of the words were cliche. “LeT mE bE yOuR lIgHt” “I wOnT dRaG yOu InTo ThE dArKnEsS”. Really cringy stuff.

And the main female literally never left the room for weeks?? Besides thrice? To eat brunch, hey her ass beat, and eat dinner? I mean jeez, let the girl walk around the compound a little.

I honestly got halfway through and just started skimming for the raunchy parts (it is what it is and I like what I like and I won’t apologize 🥴) but even those were cringy with the cliche phrases they were word vomiting to each other or Blaire’s inner dialogue making me roll my eyes.

The book ends exactly how you think it will but there’s a nice little plot twist at the end. But not enough for me to give this book more than 1 star.

DNF, went through a bit over 50% and I simply hatted it. The writing wasn't the best and the lines were OH Gosh so cringe🤦.

Blaire (female lead & kindergarten teacher) gets drugged by a coworker at a conference in Vagus. She then stumbles (literally) into Rico, a mob boss...? (It's a family 'business' so boss might not be the right term).

They get married (her idea), get tattoos of each others names (her idea again) and spend he rest of the night sexing and professing their love for eachother all while she is high from a date rape drug.

She wakes up the next day confused without any recollection of what happened the night before. So half of the book is basically her trying to convince herself that she married Rico hours after meeting him, not because of the drug but because 'her heart recognised the good in him'. 💀

Let's not forget our man's mood swings, they drove me up the wall and made me think I was reading a wattpad story😑.

This had an amazing start, a boring middle, and action-packed ending…so it was overall an okay mafia sandwich? It was an easy, quick, and mildly spicy take on the Russian mafia. The chemistry and character-building throughout the middle was a little drawn out though, and every emotion came down to crying. The twists were a little too convenient, but it definitely had me guessing.

uhhh

This book……… I don’t know what it was about this book but it just sucked. It just kind of felt all over the place. It wasn’t concise, very vague at moments. I felt lost some of the time and it was really cringe with the nicknames and what not it’s like oh my God yet I kept reading it cause I like to torment myself.

Waking up in Vegas married to a stranger had become cliche. Waking up married to a mob boss is not. Blair is not ready for this. She is a Miss Goody Two Shoes, a kindergarten teacher and a little bit naive. She has no memory of her time with Rico. Rico is the alpha son to one of the most cruel men in the world. In Vegas, she literally falls in his lap. Now he has to protect her from his lifestyle. This story is full of twists and turns. With a hero that will make you want to live dangerously.

I liked it. This was my first book by Shandi Boyes and I must say that it can totally be read as a standalone, which I was worried about when I first downloaded it.

The story flowed, there was a perfect mix of angst, steamy scenes, lovey-doveyness and storyline. There was a couple twists thrown in that I didn't expect, so the story isn't predictable.

Only things I didn't like were:
1) I have no idea what was said in Russian - my kindle couldn't find a translation.
2) There are EIGHT books before this one and no mention in the blurb, if it's a stand-alone series or if the previous books MUST be read prior in order to understand the story. I honestly think this "series" needs to be split up, because reading book 9 in the title kind of scares you away from giving it a try - I know it did for me. I read like 10 reviews until I finally found one that said it can be read as a stand-alone. No one wants to go back and read 8 books because they liked the blurb of the 9th. I get the series is based in the same world but there was only ONE crossover character mentioned (Since I didn't read the previous 8 - I could be wrong)

Anyways, I LOVE MAFIA ROMANCES and am usually pretty picky and rip apart cheezy, weak storylines, but I really did enjoy this one. I'd recommend it for a quick read.

I had trouble with the fantasy of this book. It was tough believing a warm and fuzzy boss for the Russian mob. There were parts of the book that could have used a heavier hand at editing. And I think the backstory could have been made a little clearer with that same editing. I know enough words in Russian to know that the translations were accurate, but I believe there was a spot or two where not everything was trying a insulated. Overall an interesting storyline. 3-1/2 stars for this.

I Married A Mob Boss (Enigma Book 9) by Shandi Boyes is part of her Enigma series. This story can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend you going back and reading the previous books in this series. This is just an awesome series! Once again, this author has brought us another hot and sexy romance story that will blow your mind. You will love her writing style and her attention to details. Her characters are connectable, lovable, and true to life. They will take you on a roller coaster ride of various emotions that you don't want to miss. This is the story of a couple who are from two different sides of the track. One night of fun will change things for them forever. They seem to have a connection and an attraction. They will bring you danger, mystery and hot, steamy romance. They will take you on some twists and turns that will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat one minute and then next needing ice water. One thing I will say about this author's books is that her characters usually make me want to yell because what are they thinking! This book did that to me again. The hero in this story drove me nuts in parts and leaving me saying WOW in the next. I love the female in this book. She is strong in parts and has some sassyness to her. I felt bad for her in parts especially in the beginning but I loved seeing her grow throughout the story. He is handsome, dark but yet has this sensitive side when it comes to her. He is controlling, knows how to get things done. I highly recommend this book, you don't want to miss what happens with this couple. They really do just pop off the page and into your life. Find out if there is an HEA in their future!

Kindergarten teacher and all around good girl Blaire is surprised when she wakes up in Vegas after a work conference with no memory of the night prior and with a new husband. She’s even more surprised to find out her new husband, Rico, whose name she has tattooed on her body, isn’t exactly on the right side of the law.

When Rico realizes she doesn’t remember their whirlwind night he lets her sign divorce papers and sends her back to her quiet life a little bit richer. Unfortunately, once you marry into the mob it’s not so easy to leave. With Blaire’s life at stake, Rico collects her from her cookie cutter life and tries to help her fit into his world as best as he can.

But there’s more to the story of the night they met then Blaire knows and there are many secrets hiding in both of their pasts. Can they both survive this Union or will it lead to their downfall?

This story quickly grabbed my attention and had me burning through the pages trying to unravel all the twists and turns. This book definitely has that instalove and fated lovers vibe and while that doesn’t always work I feel like it just felt right with Blaire and Rico. Blaire definitely frustrated me at the end as I felt she lost faith too quickly but thankfully she was able to see the light before it was too late.

The amount and level of steam was perfect though my only critic is the frequent use of “womb”. That’s like my equivalent of ‘moist’. We all have that one word that gets us and that one is mine 🤣

I’m going to have to read Nikolai soon because he intrigued me so much in this one!!

If you like mafia romance, instalove, fated lovers and romantic suspense then I think you’ll really enjoy this one.

A rather intense new life
Very good romance full of twists for a teacher who did not expect what will happen to her.
The story is excellent from start to finish, full of completely unexpected twists and turns, with excellent characters, whether primary or secondary, all are very well built in their relationships, their hatreds, their attractions. It’s very moving, strong, hot, in a world unknown for the heroin and in which no one can believe anyone.
Blaire is a teacher and she goes to Vegas for the teacher of the year award. The next day, she wakes up with a hangover and discovers that she is married to a mobster, Rico. Rico signes the marriage's annulment, but a few days later, he returns to fetch her with an ultimatum which does not help either of them but which will save Blaire's life: she must return to Vegas to fulfill her role as a married woman.
She discovers that she is not so cold in front of her unknown husband, but that the world in which he lives in the Russian mafia, is not free from cold blood murders, beatings, permanent betrayals.

I'm so glad I found this one through Maria
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
She recommended it after I was intrigued by her review of one of the other books. So now I'm going to search through these books which others appeal to me.
***THANK YOU MARIA!!***

There were little things that weren't mentioned, but those are things for nitty pickers so it wasn't anything bad.
As everyone who reads my reviews or just my bio knows I love captive, mob, enemies to lovers. This one was so up my alley! I was so so happy to find a good mob read among so many who try to hard.
What I missed a bit was how the ending was a bit rushed and so they forgot to mention what happens with Colt/Marshall? I'm just curious because we all know (who read the book) that Rico is possessive..

I thoroughly enjoyed this one!

OMG!!! I cannot say enough good things about this book.
It was exhilarating.
It was emotional.
It was sexy and romantic.
It was ,believe it or not, kinda funny at times.
It was so sad at times,I cried.
It was heart breaking.
It was joyous.
It was mysterious.
But must of all it was a very unique love story between two lost souls that felt responsible for an act that happened ten years prior.
It was so good I couldn't put it twin.

Incredibly well written I fell in love with these characters and their stories plenty of danger, action, twists, passionate and heartbreak. A hot Russian alpha sex god with a massive manhood mafia mob boss with a dark side and a good heart how could you not fall madly in love with him Rico will break you he will also melt you in all the right places. Blaire at the start is very shy and quiet she is the safe and careful friend she grew throughout the story she become a stronger woman she wasn't scared to fight for love even thought she knew int would put her in danger.

Another amazing book by Shandi she is one of my go to Author's

“Wow,” Lacey breathes out heavily. She scoots across the double seated sofa to sit closer to me. “No half-baked Vegas experience for you. You went straight for the complete package.”

I Married a Mob Boss is the ninth book in the Enigma series by Shandi Boyes. It is an incredibly well written and captivating romantic suspense/mafia romance, with plenty of twists, danger, action, some violence and bucket loads of hot, passionate and erotic moments. I fell in love with the characters and their story, but then again I expected nothing less from Ms. Boyes. This series is superb, and only gets better with each new instalment.
Blaire Williams is a good girl, a kindergarten teacher- you know the type of girl I’m describing- sweet, kind, cardigan wearing, doesn’t curse, is a little cautious, very responsible, dependable and somewhat insecure. So, imagine her surprise when she wakes up in Vegas in a strange bed, in a strange room, with the worst hangover imaginable and no memory of the previous 24 hours. Oh, and a wedding band on her finger. What did she do? And with who?
Enrique Julies Popov (Rico) is dark and dangerous, a Russian Mob Boss who also happens to be the man she married. He’s deliriously gorgeous, but that doesn’t explain why Blaire would have up and married a complete stranger while in Vegas for a school conference. We follow along as Blaire tries to unravel her memories, and try to figure everything out. The incredible, volcanically hot chemistry between the two steams up the pages as these two explore their connection. Rico is such a swoony alpha, who is a bit of a sexy contradiction- kind, caring and very protective vs dark, powerful and commanding. Their feelings for one another are undeniable- will they be able to work everything out? And with the danger that they face, will Rico be able to keep them safe?
WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! OMG Ms. Boyes, what are you doing to me? Every book eclipses the previous one, I open one of your books and I lose all sense of time and place- the real-world fades away as I fall into your outstanding story. I have developed a serious addiction to your work- one I’m not about to remedy anytime soon- and I love it!
This book is my new favourite of the Enigma series, and you’ll want to read it too! It could be read as a standalone, but believe me when I say that after reading one book, you will want to go back and read the rest of the series as well!
Now I really can’t wait to read the next book!

Thank you, Ms. Boyes!

I Married a Mob Boss (Enigma Book 9)
By: Shandi Boyes
5 out of 5 stars

The story I Married a Mob Boss (Enigma Book 9) by Shandi Boyes is a contemporary romantic/suspense book. The latest book in the Enigma series is a wonderful read that had me on the edge of my seat all the way through. It is a story that had me hooked from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the last page. It tells the story of a couple that comes from two different worlds. They find they have both a connection and deep feelings for each other. Quote: “She is my light in a world full of blackness.” Will he be able to keep her safe from the danger that is a constant in his world? This is a book that has danger, romance, and mystery. When I was reading I wondered if there was more to this couple than just a hasty marriage in Las Vegas. My imagination ran wild on what that something could be. I was worried for this couple as the world that surrounds them is dark and full of people that didn’t think twice about the evil that they do. She had always been the one that played things safe. Now she finds herself in a situation that she could never have imagined. This is also a story that had me misty eyed. There are scenes in this story that deeply affected me. He is a man that is a walking contradiction. While he is cold and distant in public, he is very different when these two are together. Who is this man that she is drawn to? She feels safe when she is with him, is there more to this man that she realizes? What does the future hold for this couple? Will they find their way through the darkness and to a happy ending or will the darkness that surrounds them crush any chance of their love surviving? I have read many books by this author and I can’t express how much I love how she writes and the characters that she creates. I always look forward to her next book. This story does include sexual content, adult language, and scenes of violence. It would be recommended for those over the age of 18.

Blaire is a kindergarten teacher and Rico is the oldest son of a mob leader. Talk about opposites attracting, but hese two are a perfect combination for each other. This books starts off with Blaire having a Vegas memory loss moment. And as she recovers parts of her memory of the night before she realizes she’s married and had a wild sexy night with a stranger. An extremely dangerous and powerful stranger. After glimpsing a piece of the cruelty his life involves she agrees to an annulment and tries to get back to her life as usual. But things change when he shows back up in her life and needs her to go back to Vegas with him.

The chemistry between these two was over the top. They were a perfect combination of good girl bad boy. And the steamy times were just... *sigh* well they were amazing. The build up of sexual tension made the sex that much more explosive and oh man that shower scene beforehand! I’ll just go ahead and give the sex scenes a 5 star rating on their own.

We didn’t get much of a look into the inner workings of the mob in this book so I’m going to assume the world building is laid out in the books leading up to this one. Since I read it as a stand-alone I can’t be sure. The whole romance was very separated from any mob workings. It wasn’t even very detailed when we did get a glimpse at some of the darker dealings. So I would still recommend this book to anyone who usually doesn’t read Mob tropes.

This is my first book by Shandi Boyes and I loved it. Having only read this trope a few times before I don’t usually gravitate toward mob/ criminal type romances but the blurb drew me in. I definitely didn’t expect to love this book but now I’m wondering if I need to get the rest of the series immediately or if I should wait and read them slowly. I read it as a stand-alone and as stated in the description I don’t think I missed anything by skipping strait to this one.

I Married a Mob Boss (Enigma Book 9)
By Shandi Boyes

Well Shandi has done it again another awesome book.
So, what does a teacher and a mob boss have in common? The answer is nothing that is until their worlds collide.
Blaire and Rico’s worlds come together when Blaire falls in his lap after being drugged by a fellow teacher while they are attending a school conference in Las Vegas. This meeting is going to change both their lives for ever. Eventually she realizes she has married Rico but can’t remember the event at all. Rico a tall, dark haired handsome many has many facets to him, he has a face that scares Blaire when he is around the mob and face that is full of love and happiness when he is around Blaire. Blaire can’t understand how quick he can go from one look to the other. What Blaire also doesn’t yet remember that she had met Rico ten years before in an alley way, when her friend Katie was kidnapped. Rico has never stopped looking for her and when Blaire remembers this event, Rico promises Blaire he is going to bring Katie home. In a brief time, Blaire becomes Rico’s light through darkness and he loves her. His love for her is so great that he promises to protect her. But to do this he must make a deal with the devil, the devil being his father. Rico as much as it kills him sends Blaire back home to Ravenshoe. When at home she can’t get her life together as she misses her husband and wants to be near him again. When Rico starts divorce proceedings Blaire questions if Rico ever loved her and puts the divorce papers aside without signing them. What she doesn’t know is that Rico has had men watching her making sure his father keeps to the agreement and is devastated when he sees her kiss Colt. Rico thinks the love of his life has moved on when in fact that’s something she can’t do when all she wants in her life is Rico.
This book had a few twists and turns which will leave you on the edge of your seat on times. This is a must read!!!!

Ugh. There are so many things about this book that feel like they need an editor. I just had to put it down. First of all, as a Vegas native there are so many things wrong with the Vegas setting here. Multiple times she describes Vegas heat as “muggy” … we have zero humidity so how is it muggy? She keeps referencing heat while she’s sitting in the house … houses have air conditioning and rich mob bosses probably use theirs … no one is feeling the heat of outside within their home unless they need their windows replaced.

Also, have you ever met a Russian named Enrique ? I certainly never have!

And the Vegas mob is historically Italian, not Bratva.

And, have you ever put your concealer on BEFORE you got in the shower ??

It just … idk.

And over 60% into the book she hasn’t left the bedroom since he came and picked her from her home town… let alone left the house. I feel like I’m watching a low budget play that only has one scene because they couldn’t afford any more backdrops.

We hear nothing from this man until like chapter 27 … what was the point of even switching POVs at this point? Everything we got was about her and her feelings, and not in a good way … it left it flat and made her seem whiny and annoying.

The best friend … CALLS THE POLICE trying to find her friend and we hear NOTHING after one two minute interaction. Not a call, text, check-in.

Apparently the dudes dad is super scary … he does absolutely nothing. Even in moments where he could have to give the book some depth … nothing, nada, not a freaking peep. He’s like the boogy man, he’s there but it’s fake news.

They’re all super small problems, but they aggregated to the point I couldn’t even finish the book. Talk about annoying, because the potential for a cute storyline was there … it was just missing soooooo much.

Title:I Married a Mob Boss
Author: Shandi Boyes
Series: Enigma Book 9

I Married a Mob Boss was a great 5 star read.

We start with Blaire waking up in a strange bed and than walking into a dangerous situation. And the man she eventually finds herself in a room with is Rico, when she sees the matching wedding bands, she realizes what happened. Oh. My. Lord. I married a mob boss.

I am the son of a monster, Kitten. Not a monster myself.

Blaire tells Rico she has no recollection of anything, he immediately gives her an annulment with a settlement that she definitely didn’t expect. When Blaire kisses Rico goodbye her memories flood back in and she remembers their evening. She can feel her attraction to Rico as she walks away.

Vegas doesn’t just steal your morals, but your sanity too...and perhaps even your heart.

When Rico shows up in her classroom, his visit sends her world spiraling out of control. She has witnessed something that could put her in danger and she needs to leave with Rico.

You either come back with me to Vegas or die. The choice is yours.

He is flawed and damaged, but has one of the most beautiful souls I’ve ever seen.

All I can say is wow from here on out. I was on the edge of my seat reading. Rico was a hot, dark and dangerous man who made me warm all over. Blaire was great as well she is a kindergarten teacher who has some insecurities and was very cautious. The chemistry these two had was great. I really liked the secondary characters, they added a great element to the story. Will Rico be able to keep Blaire safe? Can these two have a HEA? 1-click and get started today.

2 weeks and they were In love.
A couple of hours and I was crying with a painful heartbreak.
So, yes it’s fast AF! But it’s still a mafia romance!

After several books of my fav trope, you start to notice that they live a fast paced, unapologetic and fearless life.
They don’t care about time, hours, days or any countable way of time as long as their feelings are true.

I do have to say, the ending was so much better than the middle of the book. Like I was gone and throughly crying, feeling her pain.
And his pain, well shit, almost unbearably.

The book touched on a lot of characters and sometimes it was hard to get a hold of them, but after a while you got used to it.
The whole book felt like it needed to be edited or written more coherently. It felt strong and yet at some parts, weak.

As for the main characters, they were full of life and depth.
BUT, they could’ve been better. First she didn’t remember shit, but he heart already loved him so she stayed. I get it, not all MCs need to be strong level headed women, but damn, she almost gave me a whiplash. She was strong, fighting Enrique and for her life, and then she was crying and literally spend her days locked up.
As of Rico, I honestly liked him but he lacked development.
He was a strong, protective man, but he wasn’t straight forward, she didn’t remember much and he loved keeping her in the dark. Why? Idk.

Would’ve loved more dual POVs.

Tropes: Mafia Romance, FMC in danger, secret identity, Dual POV, Vegas marriage.

Romance: ♥️♥️ (honestly almost none, they didn’t even go on a date)
Spicy: 🌶🌶🌶 daaaaamn boy, I wished I was that responsive lol
