Drs. Jantz and Clinton help readers unravel why they're drawn back to the same types of unfulfilling relationships over and over again. Readers learn how to break the cycle of relationship dependency, focus on finding wholeness as unique individuals, and discover the key to finding a healthy relationship that lasts.
This book provides a good collection of questions to dive deep into one’s past, behaviors, and patterns. However, I had no idea that this book had a Christian leaning and was quite blindsided when halfway through the book, bible quotes were coming hard and fast. Not what I was looking for, and caused me to skip quite a few pages.
The size of this book fooled me into the initial thought that this was going to be a light read with only a few tidbits of good information of codependency and unhealthy relationship dependency issues.
Boy was I wrong.
This little book packs a big punch! Chapter two holds nothing back in laying out all the possible symptoms of relationship dependency, communicating them in an informative but not overwhelming way. Then, the authors move to the patterns and fears of relationship dependency (and there are a LOT of things to get out of these two chapters). There was more and more offered by each passing chapter, and for such a small book it covers every corner of this issue, but points it back to the truth that spiritual dependence on God is a remedy for our relational dependency problems. It doesn’t feel over-spiritualized or too simplified either. I feel that those who can relate to issues like relationship dependency or codependency (like me) will feel heard and seen through this book, but you will also be challenged to grow!
From the first page, this book had me hooked and taking notes in my journal. A fabulous read, chock full of insights and opportunities to grow into the person God called you to be.
