Beneath the Secrets

What happens when the only girl you’ve ever lusted comes crashing back into the picture?

Nothing.

Don’t construe my lack of interest the wrong way. The last time I saw Ava, she was no doubt attractive. Although she’s always been a little nerdy, and her head never left the inside of a book during her entire schooling experience, she could garner the attention of any hot-blooded male she feigned an interest in – myself included. Just one flash of her killer smile and I wanted to drop to my knees and kiss her f*cking feet. But a lot has changed since Ava left town six years ago with a flood of tears streaming down her face. Circumstances change. People change. I’ve changed. I’m no longer a teenage boy who can’t control his cock around a beautiful girl. I am a grown man. A man that has done two tours in Afghanistan. A man that has no troubles controlling his cock. A man that can still remember the sweet taste of her lips.

What the f*ck? I'm screwed.

From the Author that brought you the 'Enigma' series comes the next installment. An emotional story about being reacquainted with your high school crush. Does time really alter your interests? Or is using your age just an excuse to downplay real love?

Let's find out - it's time to dive beneath the sheets!

Author Notes:
This book is part 1 of Hugo's story.
This book has open door sex scenes and swear words.
Only recommended for audiences over the age of eighteen.

The author wrote “My naturally dark brown long afro curls were chemically straightened to wispy waves of shiny locks that now sit an inch past my shoulders.”

Really????

Also the only person whose race you’ve specified is a Black man and you’ve given him the nickname of “Pencil Dick” and made him seem possessive and controlling of the heroine??

5 stars!
Beneath the Secrets is the fifth book in the Enigma series by Shandi Boyes and again is a brilliant read! This book could be read as a standalone but having read and LOVED the first 4 books in this series I would absolutely recommend reading them first! This book has helped ease my horrendous book hangover after I had finished book 4! I loved Hugo in the first four books so I couldn’t wait to read his story and find out what he was all about! I also got another dose of Mr Isaac Holt (still oh so dreamy!) As with all of the other books I was hooked from the very first page until I saw those dreaded words on the last page …. ‘To Be Continued’ especially when my heart had just been ripped out by Hugo and a twist I didn’t see coming!
Hugo’s past has remained quite the mystery throughout this series. There have been hints about what has happened in his past but they have never been fully explored until now! Hugo’s story begins right back before he meets Isaac. We get to witness the lovely relationship he has with his sister Marjorie (Jorgie) and the intense attraction between him and his sister’s best friend Ava. Hugo was everything I expected him to be in this book! He was hot, sexy, an alpha male and very dominating!
I really liked Ava too. I really felt sorry for the way people treated her especially the usual nasty high school girls! Girls who don’t even grow up after high school is over! She had loved Hugo for so long that once he finally seemed to acknowledge her she was very unsure of him and his intentions!
The chemistry between the two is undeniable though and there are some pretty steamy scenes between the two of them!
Although having read the first books I knew what happened to Hugo’s sister it still didn’t prepare me for the ending! I have definitely come to realise with this author now that I am not going to be in for a nice relaxed read – I know I am going to be on the edge of my seat the entire way through and I wouldn’t have it any other way! This is by far the best series that I have read! 5 books in and I still can’t get enough of these characters and I am 100% looking forward to the next part in Hugo’s story!

Beneath the Secrets by Shandi Boyes is a five star novel. This is my favorite novel of hers so far. After reading the Enigma series, you will become intrigued by Hugo and his life. Thank you Ms Boyes for allowing us now to have a glimpse into Hugo’s life and giving him his chance as the main character of a novel! Your fans are much appreciative. This book starts back in Hugo’s life before he meets Isaac Holt. When that's moment happened, everything changed for him. Hugo and his sister, Jorgie are very close. They love playing pranks on each other and no matter how old they get, the pranks just escalate. After serving two tours in Afghanistan, Hugo is just living life day by day. He has been helping out his little sister by working on her car while the hubby is on his second tour. Hawke and Jorgie fell instantly in love and no matter what Hugo said, he couldn't keep them away from each other. Hawke was his best friend and now he is his brother in law. He doesn't really know how this happened but he is happy that his sister is happy and finally got out of her rebellious streak. So she wants to set him up with her best friend Ava. Wouldn't that be perfect? But Hugo isn't interested in getting married and settling down. He enjoys his one night stands and complete lack of stability. But after another one of Jorgie’s pranks, Hugo sets eyes on Ava for the first time in six years. He can't believe his eyes, and neither can she since she is seeing all of him! Will the high school crush turn in to or will they just continue on the way they have been?

I realize it’s on me to have read this out of order but god did it ever give me whiplash. Also I do take issue with the use of the term purity to refer to virginity, it’s icky. Don’t do it. I’m also slightly weirded out by Ava having to chemically straighten her hair in order to have a makeover? Why??? Literal whiplash.

So we had the enigmatic Hugo in the first 4 books, and now he has his own tale.
He's just so... everything! There isn't anything about him that I don't like.
Hugo and Ava are just meant to be. But there's been so much go on around them and between them that nothing is cut and dried! They are a work in progress...

Hugo’s story will have you smiling and crying. Eva and Hugo practically grew up together. She was his sister’s best friend and they spent a lot of time together over the years. He was popular and outgoing. She was nerdy and a little more introverted. Her parents were super strict . She had a crush and he had a crush. They never really acted on it until Hugo’s 18th birthday party. Six years later after a tour a Afghanistan and college they see each other again. They can’t fight fate and things start to work in their favor. When tragedy strikes, their love is tested. Hugo disappears and Ava is endangered. We are left with a mystery......

Beneath The Secrets (Enigma Book 5) by Shandi Boyes

5 Amazingly Awesome stars

I don't even know where to start with this review, I'm still trying to organize my thoughts and trying to catch my breath, but I can't let another second pass before I say that everyone simply must read this book!!!

Ava, always the shy, nerdy, quiet type growing up. She was bullied her entire childhood, and not the normal kind of bullying, but the kind dished out by a father who wanted a seen but not heard child. There was no such thing as any kind of normal childhood rebellion because she was scared of the extreme punishment and verbal abuse she would receive. She is working to become a dentist and halfway through with her clinical training.

Hugo, just returning home from his last tour in the military and his demons followed him. He is currently looking for work and happens upon Isaac Holt who just may be the answer he is looking for on the job search. He has a great family, even if his little sister Jorgie is a pain in his butt. While working on her car his sister tries to get him to have dinner so she can fix him up with her best friend Ava, but the dreaded M and C words make his skin crawl.

After a successful bribe Hugo agrees to stay for dinner, after all him and Ava used to be close, she used to hang out at their house growing up to get away from her father. He always thought she was very attractive, and not that anyone could see it but they had a very unique relationship, but it had been 6 years since she ran off to college halfway across the country, and 6 years since that kiss he would never forget, and he knew from personal experience that people change. Then they see each other again, old feelings start to resurface for both of them. Can these two reconnect and even be better? Or will outside forces have total control over them?

I can't go any further with my review without giving too much away, I will just say that this might just possibly be one of my favorite books so far this year and I've read quite a few. This is my first book by this author and I'm seeing that this story takes place 5 years before the 1st in the Enigma series. I'm kind of glad I read this first, now of course I might change my mind when I read the whole series, which I will as soon as it's humanly possible...I loved loved loved this whole entire book, but I will say that the last quarter of it had my heart racing and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. These characters are awesome, the storyline is fantastic, the writing is brilliant. Read it you won't be sorry!

Beneath The Secrets- Shandi Boyes

5 Stars Review

Beneath the Secrets by Shandi Boyes is without a doubt a 5 star read. It completely leaves you wanting more and feeling like your questions need to be answered ASAP. This story totally sucked me in; I was captivated by the characters from the start. This is the 5th book in the Enigma series; it follows Hugo and shows us what happened in the past that made him the man he is today. This was the first book I read in the series so I can say that it can be read as a standalone, I wasn’t at any point confused starting in the middle of the series. It is a beautifully written story that is told in both Hugo and Ava’s POV’s, it also goes from the past to the present which gives us much needed information into their lives.

For as long as Ava can remember she has had a crush on her best friends older brother Hugo. Though she never really had the chance to do anything about it. She’s a shy woman who hides herself from men, but her time has finally come. After many years she is reacquainted with Hugo, and she’s more attracted to him now more then ever. Hugo has the ability to truly bring out the best in her, she’s no longer shy, and she’s witty and confident. Ava knows what she wants and Hugo is at the top of her list. Will they finally have the opportunity to give their relationship a go or will situations cause them to be separated once more. It’s all in fates hands now.

Shandi is such a talented writer; she writes with so much detail that you can so easily jump into the world she’s created, leaving you with the ability to forget about yours. All of the characters, main and supporting, compliment each other so well. I loved being able to read their love story, though it’s still unfinished. This story will have you feeling so many emotions; it breaks your heart in one moment and leaves you completely speechless the next. I’m so looking forward to reading Beneath the Sheets to find out how everything plays out.

What do you do when the only girl you have ever lusted over comes crashing back into the picture? Nothing…!

The last time he saw Ava, she was no doubt attractive, she may have always been a bit nerdy with her head never leaving the inside of a book but she could always get the attention of any hot-blooded male including himself. But Lots have changed in the in the time Ava left, circumstances change and so do people. Hugo has changed, he is no longer the guy who can’t control his hormones around a beautiful girl, he is a grown man and has completed two tours of Afghanistan, but also the man who can still remember the sweet taste of her lips.

Hugo is defiantly screwed.

Beneath the secrets is book 5 in the Enigma series, that can be read as a stand-alone. This is my first book from Shandi Boyes I have read and I can’t wait to dive into another book of her, so that I can be as captivated with that as I was with this.

This book was brilliant from start to finish. The story-line and characters of this book really hooked me and kept me turning page after page, until the end not wanting to put it down afraid I may miss anything.

This book had it all from romance, to friendship that is so tight they are more a less a family, happiness, jealously, passion, angst, heartache and tragedy but most importantly love. It has you laughing, smiling, feeling frustrated that the characters couldn’t quit fighting they undeniable electric connection, and the continuous back and forth and let’s not forget that cliff hanger ending. We may get a lot of back-and forth with these characters but through it all you can tell they can not only feel the connection, they are no longer unable to deny it. This is a brilliant friend to lover story with the added extra’s.
We get to read the characters have hot sexy scenes, romantic scenes, heart pounding moments and heart shattering news that can really break them all. This book was great paced, and the characters and their relationships were real and not rushed.

Another great thing with this book is that it was written in dual POV’s. I love reading it from the characters POV’s as we get to really see their thoughts and feeling from them rather than the other person. I also think it helps connect with a character as you get to understand some of their reasons of their actions!

From reading a little bit about Ava from the synopsis, you can get that she isn’t your typical girl. She likes to read, and for that is one of the first to get the stick from the bullies. Ava really tries to keep herself to herself and never cause any unwanted attention, but the one bit of attention she wants is her best friends brother. Now after six years of being away, and finally coming into the women she truly wants to be, she is about to steal his heart again without even knowing it. Ava is beautiful and sexy in a beautiful way, she isn’t conceited and still shy’s away from attention. She loves her job and will work hard at what she loves. She is also an epic best friend who knows exactly what her best friend means just from the swipe of a finger under her nose. I loved seeing her become more confident and daring when it came to comments with Hugo, but also how she was still always herself. I loved reading her characters she was real, and beautiful inside and out, and truly deserve to be happy.

Hugo has had a rough time recently still combating his inner demons from his tours in Afghanistan, but slowly coming back into himself. Upon seeing Ava again, he really believed the feelings that he had for her as a teen had vanished that is until he lays eyes on her again. Realising he only pushed it back, he now realises she must become his and will do anything to show her that as well. As things start brewing and heating up, things get thrown their way to throw them off course, but will they be determined enough to face them together, or will he give up the fight so easily. Hugo is your typical Alpha male, possessive, jealous, protective, but who wouldn’t be when your love slipped through your fingers that many years ago and now finally you get a chance to get her back.

This is a brilliant friend to lovers read, that will hook you and grip you from the beginning. I cannot wait to read the conclusion to Hugo’s story Beneath the Sheets (Enigma 6) and hope this isn’t the last we read of Ava!

“Haste decisions will cause unforgiving mistakes.”
This is the fifth book in the Enigma series and could be read as a standalone if you didn’t want to read the first few right away. I would recommend that the books are all read in order and up to this one first though to really get the whole story and why we are now learning about the past of Hugo. We fell in love with Hugo in the first books as Isaac’s right hand man and as a fierce protector of both Isabelle and Isaac. He too has a tragic past that has brought him to the place he is in today and this book tells the story behind the enigma that is Hugo the operations manager and who he really is as a person with his own past.
Set five years earlier than the last set of books, before Holt became as influential as he is now, when he was just starting out his empire, Hugo is struggling to find a job after returning from a two-year tour in Afghanistan. He was an Air Force Snipper, but left with some really bad PTSD amongst other things. He doesn’t want to talk about it or deal with it, he is just looking to find his next dollar to feed and shelter himself. It is after another let down interview, where he was too qualified to bartend, that he happens to cross paths with Isaac Holt. Holt sees something in Hugo and immediately knows he wants this man working for him on his empire. “Call me tomorrow morning. I want you to join my empire.” “In that instant I knew my life was about to change. I just had no idea it was going to be so ----- mammoth.”
While he is pondering the offer that Holt makes him, he is settling back in at home. We meet his sister who is engaged to marry Hugo’s best friend. She is also pregnant and hormonal, and the baby sister who wants to see Hugo happy and settled down with a woman. Logically, she thinks, that because she is marrying her brother’s best friend, he should date and eventually marry her best friend Ava. Hugo is not in the place where he can justify a relationship that would be worth anything to anyone involved though. “I’m a grown man, a man whose skin crawls when anyone mentions the dreaded M and C words; marriage and commitment.” That is his attitude until he sees Ava for the first time in six years, and she has sure changed a lot in that time. “I’ve grown a lot since my eyes last absorbed the hunk of a man in front of me. But his piercing blue eyes and well-carved face still sets my pulse racing.” Hugo didn’t expect to feel the way he feels when he relents and agrees to meet over dinner at his sister’s house. The next few weeks are a whirlwind of Hugo trying to impress Ava. At the same time, Hugo is dealing with his PTSD and really needs to talk to someone about it. Holt decides to make this part of his contract and wage offer he makes to Hugo for joining his empire. “You can run with a lie, but you can’t hide from the truth. It’ll always catch up with you.”
Just when it seems like there is going to be a happily ever after for Hugo and Ava, tragedy strikes, and tears apart everything that lays in its path. Hugo reacts and deals with the situation in the only way he knows how despite the consequences he will face, and against the better judgement and advice that Holt gives him. “Haste decisions will cause unforgiving mistakes.” Will Hugo make the right choice or have to say goodbye to his one chance at love and a future with Ava?
Warning; this is a one hits the feelers and you may want Kleenex. In addition to the emotional roller coaster that your emotions will go through, this ends in a cliffhanger! I personally am dying for the next part to be released so I can find out if there is any way good can come of this tragic tale.

Beneath the Secrets (Enigma #5)
Shandi Boyes
5 Stars
Beneath the Secrets is the fifth book in Shandi Boyes Enigma Series. This book is a bout Hugo Marshall and Ava Westcott. Hugo and Ava have always been friends hiding their secret desire for one another. After six years of growing, can they finally have more than just friendship?

“Because he is not the one I want. He’s not the one who dangles a carrot in front of my face and dares me not to touch it. He’s not the one who can make me strive to turn fantasies into reality. And he’s not the one who sets my pulse racing just from hearing his laugh. That honor has solely belonged to Hugo.”
Hugo has not seen Ava since he left 6 years ago, the day he left to join the Air Force. When his little sister Jorgie gets him to stay for dinner and then she plays a prank on him. He figures he will get her back and walk around her house in nothing but his skin. Hugo is surprised when Ava, his sister’s best friend walks in the house. All his felling for Ava come flooding back, and his body shows just how much Hugo “likes” Ava. Hugo gets Ava to come out with him and he sees a side of Ava that he has never seen before, and Ava see a sides of Hugo that she has missed. All Hugo wants is to wrap Ava legs around his waist and have her all to himself, but he cannot seem to follow through. Hugo is negotiating with Isaac Holt on a dollar amount for his new employment in Holt Enterprise. Hugo cannot believe the amount of money Isaac is offering and the other benefits that come with the new job.
Ava has had a crush on Hugo since she was a kid; Ava has spent a lot of time at the Marshall’s home. Ava loves make Hugo blueberry pancakes every Sunday morning. After six years, Hugo being in the Air Force and Ava learning to be a dentist. She thought she has moved past her crush on Hugo, until the day she walked in on him standing in her best friend’s kitchen naked. Ava has plans to but her dreams into reality, but the man she needs to make it happen does not like that Hugo is back in town and wants Ava. Ava knows she has to tread carefully to make her dream come true, but can she do that with all her emotions being pushed to the brink by the man she has always wanted to be with, Hugo Marshall.

I gave this book five stars, I love Hugo and his bantering with the females around him. I have read Shandi Boyes Perception and Enigma Series. The books Shandi Boyes has written for these series intertwine with each other. Beneath the Secrets can be a standalone book, but I enjoyed reading all the books in order. Hugo can always make me smile and laugh, he is so loveable. I am glad that author worte Hugo’s story. He has been my favorite character. I cannot wait to read the next book.

Beneath the Secrets (Enigma Book 5)
By Shandi Boyes
5/5 Stars

Beneath the Secrets( Enigma book 5 ) ( Hugo’s Story, Book 1)by Shandi Boyes is the fifth book in the Enigma series. It could be read as a standalone. But I would suggest you read the series and it’s entirety! You would be missing out on some great characters if you didn't read the whole Enigma Series.
This book is about friendship, family and love. Sometimes the best relationships, just simply start off as friendships!!
This is almost like a prequel to the Enigma series. This story does start off five years before the Enigma series. Hugo is coming home from the military. He is a little lost and broken. He doesn't quite know how to to be a regular civilian again. Then unexpectedly , Isaac Holt offers him a job. Then after that day, he knows things will never be the same again!
Ava and Hugo grow up together. They were friends all throughout their school years. Then Ava goes off to college and Hugo off to the military. They try to keep in touch. But sometimes life happens and you get busy. Eventually, all communication between them stops completely.
Fast forward six years… Jorgie, Hugo's sister tries to get them together. Hugo is back in town and Ava is on her way to become a dentist. They run into each other unexpectedly one afternoon.
Hugo can't believe his eyes… the Ava he remembers was nerdy and her head was always stuck in a book. But now, she is drop dead gorgeous, legs for days.. and oh that beautiful smile.
Ava has always been the girl next door. She has kept kept her secret crush.. well, a secret. She didn't think Hugo ever liked her, more than just a friend. What happens when she finally sees him? Will all those feelings start to come back?
Hugo is protective and a little controlling. But thatsjust his nature. But will it cause problems in the potential relationship? He also suffers from horrible dreams at night, since returning from Afghanistan. Will he get the help he desperately needs?
I'm so happy to read the next installment in the Enigma series. I secretly fell in love with Hugo. I'm excited to read about his story now! I truly can't wait to see what happens next!! Again, another outstanding job, Shandi!!

I have discovered yet another brilliant author in Shandi Boyes. Beneath the Secrets is book 5 in the Enigma series and is a tale of friends to lovers which will blow readers minds.

Ava and Hugo were friends for years, with both lusting after the other and staying strictly in the friend zone. Life took them in different directions, only to have them meet again. Even though it has been years since they have seen one another, the spark of attraction ignites instantly, and the game of pursuit begins.

After his time in Afghanistan, Hugo is not the the man he used to be, but Ava has changed also. But their intense attraction for one another has only increased over time. It was a true delight to read Beneath the Secrets. There were many highs and mny lows, some crushingly sad parts, and parts that caused many belly laughs. I connected with the characters immediately, and there was never a lull in the story, it was constant mayhem, madness and entertainment.

Foor me, a truly good book does not just consist of romance and passion. Although sexy bad boys going all alpha on their ladies is a bonus, it is not all the story is for m. I judge a book on the way the author makes me feel while reading and once I have finished the book. If the author can engage me totally, captivating me and holding my attention from start to finish, then I know I have found a great book/author. I don’t have a favourite author, they are ALL my favourites, as I always get something different from every story I read.

All these authors hold a special spot on my all time favourites book shelf. Shandi Boyes has a place on the top shelf. She made me feel many emotions, think many thoughts, laugh many times, cry some, and left my heart full to bursting.

I read Beneath the Secrets without having read any of the previous 4 books in the Enigma series. Although it can be read on it’s own, I would definitely recommend reading from the beginning to experience all that this author can deliver.

I cannot get enough of the Enigma series and give Shandi Boyes and Hugo and Ava 5 shining stars. Next in the series is Beneath the Sheets, and I can hardly contain my excitement. This is one series you do not want to let pass you by.

Beneath the Secrets, by Shandi Boyes, is the fifth book in the Enigma series – a new adult/college contemporary romance. The author note indicates that this is part one of Hugo's story, so please keep that in mind. This is not the first book or series that I have had the pleasure to read by this author; I have previously read the Perception series which has honestly created an addiction for all books by this author. I will admit that I have not read the first four books in the Enigma series, but after reading this story, I am now drawn to read those because everything that Shandi Boys writes is purely wonderful, well composed and draws you in!

The way the synopsis is written, the author immediately attracts your attention to the story and what could potentially be involved in the story. I know that once I read it, I had to have this book. I was not disappointed and found the story to hold firm with this author's style I have already fallen in love with. Hugo and Ava are the main characters in this story. I honestly love these two and how they are being developed in this story. Hugo has known Ava most of his life, as his little sister's best friend. Years pass that they haven't seen each other, but they still hold something from those years. Now the question is, is there more for them or is everything best left where it is?

The way the Shandi Boyes' has crafted this story, its remarkably well done. I am a fan of stories that have dual POV allowing you to get glimpses of the thought of more than one character in a story, this book does that. As I mentioned, this book was addictive. However, I do recommend reading the other books in the series first. It's always a good idea to read those in a series in the order the author writes them to allow you to know any back story that may be relevant in later books. If you are look for a book that will deliver and then some, take a chance and read Beneath the Secrets!!

Beneath the secrets by Shanti Boyes a heart aching five-star read. This is the fifth book in the Enigma series and it is just as fast paced and thrill filled as the first book. It is recommended for over 18s as does contain scenes of a sexual and adult nature, as well as language that may offend some people.
This is the story of Hugo Marshall the man of mystery in the Enigma series, not the Enigma himself, but the man behind the enigma. Hugo has been head of security for Isaac Holt for over five years, during the first four books we have seen him be the man he is now but in this book we go back in time to before Hugo was the man he is today, we get to see the man he was, and what happened to make him the man he is today. It was weird as you knew some of the events that are going to happen so you are waiting for them to happen, but it’s like being in the Wizard of Oz and seeing behind the curtain. Watching Hugo become the man that I have grown to love in the last four books. Having my heart break for him.
Hugo Marshall has always lusted after Ava Westcott, even when she was a nerdy teen who was best friends with his little sister. Hugo hasn’t seen her in six long years since she left town, he has become a man who served his country and seen things no man should ever have to see. When he is given a second chance opportunity with her he takes it with both hands, Ava has become a grown woman and moved on as well just because she had a crush on him in high school doesn’t mean that they would work now does it?
This is a story of second chance love, we watch Hugo and Ava admit to their feelings, but just because you had a high school crush doesn’t mean it is the same when you are grown-ups. Life has a way of getting in the way, this is only the first part of their story, I can’t wait to read part two of Hugo’s story.

Beneath the Secrets (Enigma #5) by Shandi Boyes

5 out of 5 stars
This book is part 1 of Hugo's story.
This is the first book by Ms. Boyes but the 5th book in the Enigma and I was blown away with Hugo’s and Ava’s heartwarming emotional love story. Even though I haven’t read the first four books in this series yet I highly recommend reading them first. This book has a major cliffhanger….
We get to see Hugo’s life before he meets Isaac Holt. We also get to see moment he met the man and how everything changed for him.
We get to witness the lovely relationship he has with his sister Jorgie and the way they love playing pranks on each other and no matter how old they get, the pranks just escalate. And the intense attraction between him and his sister’s best friend Ava.

Just one flash of her killer smile and I wanted to drop to my knees and kiss her feet.
Hugo and Ava are amazing characters that are well written. I can’t wait to read book two of Hugo’s story…

Beneath the Secrets is the fifth book in the Enigma series and it could be read as a standalone if you have had a chance to read the others. I would however recommend that you read them all in order so that you get the background and the whole story.

Hugo is struggling to find a job after returning from a tour in Afghanistan where he is suffering from PTSD amongst other things. He has kept to himself and doesn’t want to talk about it nor deal with it. Hugo’s sister Jorgie is engaged to Hugo’s best friend and has always wanted to see Hugo happy and settled down. Hugo has always had a crush on one girl and that girl is now standing before him. For the first time in six years he sees Ava, not the girl he knew back then that always set his pulse racing but the woman before him has sure changed a lot in that time. With just one flash of her amazing smiles see Hugo trying to impress this new Ava.

Ava had always had a good relationship with Hugo and boy did she ever have a crush on him but that was six years ago, before she was torn away from the town and people she loved. Now they are both back in the same town and Ava thought she had put those feelings to rest. But just one look at Hugo and she knows she is in trouble. It seems Hugo has decided to set his sights on her and she is more than happy to let it happen. Just when it seems like everything is looking good for the two, they are torn apart when tragedy strikes.

Will Hugo’s mistake cost him everything? Will he finally wake up and see what is right in front of him? Will he walk away from the only good thing left in his life? Will Ava be able to forgive the mistakes? Will the two ever have a future together?

This story is bit of an emotional roller coaster ride. At times you will be laughing out loud and the next you will be sobbing. I am now off to read the next installment. Enjoy!!

4.25 Stars. (BW/WM) Kindle Unlimited Edition 298 page e-book.

SETTING: Contemporary times in a small town, Rochdale, in an unnamed American state.
TROPE: Childhood friends to adolescent crushes to adult lovers. Best friend's brother.

MAIN CHARACTERS:
1. Hugo Marshall, male lead, is a 25-year-old 2 tour Afghanistan War veteran, a handsome smooth talking lady's man and business manager for Holt Enterprises.
2. Ava Westcott DDS, female lead, is a 24-year-old orthodontist, nerdy virgin and property owner.
3. Jorgie, Malcolm and Hawke respectively they are Hugo's baby sister, unborn nephew and best friend as well as brother-in-law.
4. Chase is Hugo's older brother.
5. Isaac Holt is an entrepreneur and Holt's boss and benefactor.
6. Victoria was Hugo's clinging F--K buddy, Jorgie and Ava's nemesis and Hawke's sister.
7. Dr. Avery Clark is Hugo's therapist.
8. Marvin is the sleaze bag is the man Ava casually date and the son the owner of dental practice where Ava worked.
9. Dr Rhys is a physician and friend to many of the characters.

This story is well written, good pacing with memorable and likable characters. The story is told from Hugo and Ava's perspectives and fluctuates between present day and relative past time events. The author does a good job of showing Hugo and Ava falling in love and how they have struggled to deny their feelings. Despite having no contact for the six years following their high school graduation, their love for each other is ever dent to those close to them and undeniable to them. I was happy to see that this installment is without a protracted break-up. I didn't see how killing Jorgie and Malcolm moved the plot...if the accident was deliberate act by foes of Hugo, recoverable injuries could have sufficed and Hugo could have told Ava and Isaac that he might be gone for an extended period of time. The cliffhanger suggests that Hugo did something that has armed men looking for him and that he will spend years away for Ava. Further, I believe Hugo and Ava got pregnant the night they "deflowered" her.

This is Hugo’s story…oh my...which includes many flash backs to high school and his forever crush on Ava… We first met Hugo in the Enigma series but this can be read as a standalone.
Oh Shandi Boyes! What have you done to my heart!?! Beneath the Secrets? Oh no you just created more secrets! Oh and that ending?! I have said this before in my reviews, there are some books that just make you say WTF did I just read…so yeah, right now, Shandi Boyes what the actual…did I just read!?!
It wasn’t until after reading the Enigma series, that I learned that Hugo would have his own story told. Little did I know that Hugo’s story is huge! It starts when he was in high school, crushing on his little sister’s best friend, Ava. But being a player, he kept innocent Ava at arm’s length. Ava was raised by overly strict parents, with a father that bordered on mental abuse. Ava and Hugo’s friendship never falters over the years. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, at least for these two it does. However, lack of true communication, secrets and jealousy keeps them from getting a happily ever after, at least for now.
Shandi Boyes is a great writer! Every one of her stories have had me turning page after page, non-stop! The male characters are swoon-worthy while the females are determined and strong. We all want someone to love while being loved right back and Ava is no different.
“I want a man who has no qualms in showing his affection even with a house full of spectators. A man devoted solely and entirely to me. That is what I want and crave. That is what I deserve.”
I recommend this story and am patiently (sort of) waiting for the next part of Hugo and Ava’s story!

Beneath The Secrets by Shandi Boyes for me is a five star read.

Wow this is an amazing read. I felt quite bad for the main character. For the way people treated her especially the nasty high school girls. It's a really nice romantic read. The chemistry between the two is extremley well done. And I loved the steamy scenes. Even if you have read the previous books it still doesn't prepare you for the twist ending that this book gives. This book will leave you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. I am really looking forward to the next in the series.

This book can be enjoyed time and time again. It is amazingly intense and the author prepares you for the journey for you to take alongside the characters really well. The characters and story development were perfectly done. This book was extremely well written and has fast become of my favourite books. I will definitely want to one click future releases from this author. This book was full of different emotions with many twists and turns in the book that will keep you guessing what is going to happen till the very end.I have the feeling that I am going to be seeing some special works coming from this author.

I could not wait to get to the end so I devoured it in one sitting. Incredible work!!

I took the book everywhere with me in order to finish it. I adore this book and cannot wait to read the next in the series as well as other work from this amazing author. I will definitely be recommending this author to everyone I know.

Definitely one awesome book to pick up

Beneath The Secrets – Enigma Book 5 by Shandi Boyes – 4 stars

FINALLY, we get Hugo’s story.

We get to go back to the very beginning and learn about “certain events and people in his life (who) influenced the man he has become today”. We learn how Hugo and Isaac (Mr. Trust Fund or Boss as Hugo calls him) meet and become friends and colleagues. Hugo has served 2 tours in Afghanistan, can dance like Channing Tatum, has muscles galore and generally makes all the girls soon.

Ava has loved him since she was a kid. She is his sister’s best friend and he has never noticed her in the way she desires. Until he does. The story of their relationship sent me in a frenzy of emotions, from joy to sadness to anger to everything in between.

This story is very complex and I don’t want to give anything away so I’m going to share a few quotes:

“Unless you look past the surface, you’ll never find the diamond hidden beneath the rubble”

“Your like Clark Kent. You keep your superhero identity hidden by outsiders”

“You don’t say Goodbye – You say, I’ll see you later”

Ok Hugo, your story is half way through so for now I’m going to say I’ll see you later!!!

If you have not read the four previous books of the Enigma Series, you can absolutely read this as a stand-alone. Do I think it will be the only book you read of Shandi Boyes? Absolutely not. So why not do yourself a favor and start at the beginning. Like Hugo’s story, the Enigma Series has a very good beginning. I do not think you will be disappointed.

Beneath the Secrets by Shandi Boyes
Stars: 5
Hugo has not seen Ava is six years. A lot has happened in the last six years. Hugo has just been discharged from the Air Force. Ava is working towards being a partner in a dental office. Ava has grown up and is no longer the nerdy teenager that she was once. Once, Ava had a crush on Hugo, but insists that she no longer holds that crush after these years. Hugo and Ava used to be close, but that is no longer the case. When they meet up after six years apart, both are extremely attracted to each other and trying to fight their attraction to one another.

This story is the first book in Ava’s and Hugo’s love story. I was so excited to read this story, because I loved Hugo in the Enigma series. I could not wait to read more about Hugo and his story. This book begins before the Enigma series. However, Isaac is in this story, and I loved reading about him again. I love Hugo in this book. I felt that I got to know more about him and his family. I particularly loved his sister. They had a great relationship, and she had a wonderful personality. I also loved Ava. She is a complete sweetheart.

I love that this story is told from both Hugo’s and Ava’s point of view. I love that Shandi added flashbacks so that we understand more about Hugo’s and Ava’s past relationship. When this story ended, I was so sad. I wanted more, and can’t wait for the second story in this series.

A great read

Beneath the Secrets by Shandi Boyes is book five in the Enigma series and tells Hugo’s story. This book could be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the first four books in the series to really get a feel of the story. This book does not start where book four ended but starts several years before. This book is about Hugo and Ava. Ava has been best friends with Hugo’s little sister for years and they have secretly crushed on each other for almost that long. Ava was always a part of Hugo’s life until she decides to move across country to attend college and he joins the air force. Time slips away and years pass before Hugo and Ava are reunited again and the attraction they have for each other has not gone away if anything it's stronger. The only problem is Hugo is struggling with issues from when he was in Afghanistan and doesn't think he wants a relationship….but he also doesn't want anyone else touching Ava either.

Omg I loved this book, it was seriously addictive and I couldn't put it down! I liked Hugo in all the previous books but this one really made me love him. This book was an emotional rollercoaster of laughter, love, anger, jealousy and utter devastation. This book does end in a heart pounding cliff hanger so be prepared. I do recommend all readers be over the age of 18 due to adult content and language. I give this book 5 stars and will be very impatiently waiting for book six.

Beneath the Secrets by Shandi Boyes
Four Stars

Beneath the Secrets is the fifth book in the Enigma Series by Shandi Boyes. This book can be read as a stand alone, as his is the first book I have read by Ms. Boyes. I will definitely be going back to read the rest of the books because this book was a treat and I want to learn more of the back story. Ms. Boyes has created such a wonderful cast of characters this book, and the witty dialog held my attention from the first page to the last. I felt I had a connection with the characters.

Ava was the girl next door, she had a huge crush on Hugo from a very young age. When she had to leave town six years ago, she was very upset over it. Now she is back and telling herself that she is over that old crush, but when she sees Hugo the feelings come flooding back.

Hugo is home from the military and trying to get his life back on the right path. He has a new job with Issac Holt. The next thing he has heard the girl who left town and broke his heart six years ago is now back.

Ava and Hugo’s relationship starts out rock the second time around because they are both trying to ignore the feeling they have for each other. Will they ever learn to trust each other? Can they get over the hurt feelings and learn to love again?

I just loved this book, I can't wait to go back and read the others in the series. It was a fun romance with a little suspense added in?

Beneath the Secrets (Enigma Book 5) by Shandi Boyes is the 5th book of the Enigma series, and the first part of Hugo’s story. Although this book is part of a series, you can either read this book as a standalone and this book is not recommended for anyone under the age of eighteen. Hugo Marshall has known Ava Westcott for a long time, remembering her as his nerdy but attractive best friend when they were in school. When they split ways, Ava going to college and Hugo going into the military, they end up not keeping in touch as tends to happen when you go different ways in life. As the years go by things change. People grow older, wiser, their experiences shaping them into the people they are today. There are some things though, that not even time can fully change. Having spent two tours in Afghanistan, Hugo is not the same person he was in school. He’s back home and trying to get his life on track and having a hard time of everything. Luckily, he meets Isaac Holt who hires him as his personal security. After being away for six years and finishing school and on her way to be a dentist, she returns home. Hugo and Ava expect the feelings they had for each other when they were in school to just go away, unfortunately for them that is not what happens as when they see each other again the same feelings they had are still there and seem to be stronger than ever… will anything come from those feelings?

Beneath The Secrets by Shandi Boyes is the fifth book in the Enigma Series! It was absolutely amazing! I loved the Enigma Series and I think this is a great addition to the series! Shandi Boyes only gets better and better with each book she writes! Another amazing 5 star read!

Beneath The Secrets starts five years before the Enigma series, Huge is coming home from his latest tour with the military, and like some coming home, he's feeling lost. Things aren't exactly going like he planned. Hugo meets Isaac and Isaac offers him a job. Then one day, everything changes and Ava comes back to town. Who's Ava? Well Ava is the girl next door, who use to be nerdy and constantly had her head stuck in a book. Hugo struggles with the fact that the last time he saw Ava, she was running away from him with tears streaming down her face. But Hugo isn't the same person anymore but yet neither is Ava. But now she's back in town and she's trying to convince herself that Hugo means nothing to her anymore. But is that the case? Does Ava still feel anything for Hugo? Would it even be worth it?

I absolutely adored Hugo and Ava! Their storyline and plot was literally everything! If you love the boy/girl next door thing then this is definitely for you. Shandi Boyes did an amazing job of describing their past and intertwining it with the present. I would recommend this to everyone!

Beneath the Secrets (Enigma book 5) is written by Shandi Boyes. Shandi Boyes did a great job on this book. The story is well written. This book is the beginning of Hugo and Ava's story. We meet Hugo from the Enigma – Isaac's story, that is when you'll fall for Hugo. I have been waiting for his story. Hugo is confident, strong, nice and protective. Ava is strong, sweet, and caring. But both Hugo and Ava have had their own issues and demons. This story starts where Hugo meets Isaac and starts working for him. Hugo is surprised when he sees the girl that he never really got over is back. The girl from his past. Hugo is very possessive, obsessed and protective of Ava. Hugo and Ava are perfect together. The chemistry between Hugo and Ava is sweet and sexy. A perfect connection. Even though Ava tries to push her feelings for Hugo away, it just doesn't work. The connection, and attraction between Hugo and Ava is just too strong. This story is packed with emotions. I'm going to leave it at that. I don't want to give away anything. Sorry no spoilers here. Just know, this book. It will keep you on the edge of your seat. You will not want to put the book down. This is a great story. I really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to reading the next one . I recommend reading this book. Thank you, Shandi Boyes. Great work on this book :) 5 Stars.

Beneath the Secrets by Shandi Boyes is the fifth installment of the Enigma series. This book can be read as a standalone, but it is helpful to read the other books in the series to become familiar with other characters that are mentioned in the book. Beneath the Secrets is a contemporary romance between Hugo and Ava, told in an alternating point of view.
The book starts out 5 years back when Hugo returns from military, without a job and money to eat. He meets Isaac Holt and becomes his personal security. Out of the blue, he finds out that the one person he has loved for years is back in town. He is no longer the person he was before he left to the military and she is not the same person he remembered as; she was always a bookworm.
Ava is the typical girl next door and always has a crush on her friend and neighbor Hugo. She left six years ago and now she has moved back to town. She thinks Hugo doesn’t mean anything to her, until she sees Hugo again. The feelings she has six years ago, come back. Will she able to fight the attraction again after so many years.
Shandi Boyes never disappoints, the stories and writing gets better with every installment in the series. I love the flashbacks that Shandi used to help understand certain aspects of each character’s life. I recommend this book and series to anyone that enjoys reading contemporary romance.
