Falling in love is supposed to be the easy part.

But nothing prepared me for losing my wife. I promised her that I'd love again. Find someone to mend my broken heart. And that seems impossible, until the day that I walk into Tilly Carter's cupcake shop.

I've never met a woman like her--sassy, dirty-mouthed, and smells like vanilla and sin. Someone that makes me want to sweep her off her feet.

But there's pain in her emerald eyes that mirrors mine. A past that neither of us can truly escape.

Now that I have her, I'll do anything to keep her.

Favorite Quotes:

God took a little extra time when he created this one, and he should be enjoyed, even if my thoughts aren’t exactly holy.

She doesn’t just drop hints, she hurls bombs.

“It’s a dinner as friends,” I remind him, even though I’m dressed like I’m ready to pounce on my prey and get busy.

Delilah and I can watch the kids… They can even spend the night… What’s two more? It’s already mass chaos at our place. The only thing I can promise is that they’ll come back alive, but everything else is a crapshoot.

She will stab you with her fork if you try to take a bite of her cake. You’re safer if you buy the whole damn thing…

Daphne stares at Delilah’s stomach and points to her tiny pooch. “Maybe you should lay off the cake.” “You better shut up,” Delilah snaps and sucks in her gut until she practically turns blue.

My Review:

Hook was an emotive and evocative read with the perfectly balanced between the heartbreak of grief, irreverent humor, the sweetness of precocious children, the excitement of a new romance, and the comedy of a loud, tightly knit, and overdramatic family. The Gallos are a garrulous and meddlesome clan who work and love hard and whole-heartedly, and generously pepper their speech with profanity and expletives. I adore them to no end and covet one to have as my very own.

I make no secret about being one of Ms. Bliss's biggest fans--but this story surpassed even my high expectations of a book from her. And straight-up truth: I wasn't quite sure if that would be the case after reading the first scene. Right out of the gate, prepare to have your guts completely yanked out of your body, and your heart flattened to a pulp. Bliss pulls no punches with the emotional impact here--and while it's rough to read, I wouldn't have her change a word. This wrenching beginning means the road to healing is going to be sweet, sensual, and completely, utterly sigh-worthy. Along the way, you're introduced to a cast of characters who are all beautifully created and honored with intense, captivating back stories. This is everything a perfect romance book should contain, with every bit of heart-rending feels for the fascinating journey--and yes, even cookies and cupcakes too! Definitely on my keeper shelf--FOREVER!

So far Angelo’s story is my favorite in this series.

It starts out with a heartbreaking scene which is necessary to fully grasp the journey Angelo is on currently. These books are short so there is a lot crammed in and although I enjoyed the other books they might lack a bit in the character development and storyline. BUT these kinds of books are my guilty pleasure so I didn’t mind at all. This book, although just the same in length seemed to have more of the feels and more depth than the other ones. This might be because we know many of the supporting characters. Whatever the reason I liked this story.

Tilly is great and so is her brother-in-law.

I will absolutely continue this series.

Chelle Bliss has brought real life emotions and scenarios to this bittersweet love story.
Hook is the 3 book of the series but can definitely be read and enjoyed as a standalone.

It's been several years since the passing of Angelo's wife and the mother of his children. It's been challenging and pain radiates off Ang, but he's had to be strong since he's both father and mother to his two children. Thank goodness for his family as they are a strong support system for his recovery. His wife's dying wish goes unfulfilled until he meets Tilly. The love at first sight spark is just what these two need to find peace.

Tilly has the same pain in her eyes as Angelo. She's been getting by eight he help of her brother in law but he's still facing the loss of his brother and her husband too. The pair are determined to work through the tough times and focus on her new business. She gets more help than she bargains for when Angelo and the entire Gallo family, stand by her as well.

The Gallo's are loud and nosey but want what's best for those they love. Especially his daughter Tate. She was written perfectly for her age and bringing levity and humour.

What also makes this book so special is the love they had for their past relationships. Angelo and Tilly found a second chance at love but they never forget their first loves.

Hook is a book where both MCs have lost their spouse and how they found love again. What I didn't really like about this plot is that I got the impression that Angelo and Tilly were each other's second best choice. The author did a great job at not making Mitchell and Marissa the bad people or lessening the love Angelo and Tilly had for them, but in a way it made it seem like Mitchell was Tilly's soul mate and Marissa Angelo's. It felt a lot like two people who settled for each other.

Another issue I had was Michelle. The second(?) chapter was pretty much about her and the fact that she was leaving town and it was supposed to affect Angelo. According to him, he was just fooling around with her and they didn't sleep together. Am I supposed to believe that? Because in the second chapter it seemed like they were sleeping together and the story could have been about them. My issue when it came to her was her appearance in this book and the fact that she had a very close relationship with Angelo's family. It felt weird having them hook-up.

Angelo's kids were cute, but we mostly saw his daughter. His son is mostly mentioned. I found that very weird and it was a turn off for me. The book could have been better (always in my opinion) if the author hadn't decided to focus so much on the dead people. Tilly lost her husband many years ago, but she made me feel like that happened yesterday and he is mentioned a lot. I felt like that took something from the story and it wasn't good.

I’m a big fan of Chelle Bliss and couldn’t wait to
read Hook.
The Prologue gutted me and left me in tears. It kind of ripped and tugged at my heart. I felt it shredding.
Truthfully, I was like oh, dear, she’s going to give us a broken soul. She did, but... she gave us so much more. Hook is about healing, feeling and falling but never letting go.
The Gallo family just keeps getting better and better.

When a book guts you in the Prologue, you know you are in for something really special. (tissues needed and keep handy as you will need them again) And that is what Chelle's latest book Hook is, something so special and amazing with characters you will fall in love with so fast and easily that you won't want to put it down. I felt every emotion of Angelo's and likewise with Tilly. For every down though there were equal ups. So fear not, you will certainly be happy and smiling and of course swooning (because I mean come on-Gallo men) enough to balance the sad times and trust me this is so worth the read. There is a nice balance of steam in the book and Angelo's crazy, loud and fun family add the needed lightness to this story. Tate stole my heart! She is absolutely precious and a master manipulator lol!! At it's core this is a love story, second loves for both, about two amazing and giving souls who have suffered loss so tragically but learn to love again so deeply. I dare say it is one of my very favorite things that Chelle has ever written!

How many times can I say I LOVE the Gallo family? They are so down to earth, warm and comforting.

Angelo is just amazing. He is trying his best to move on, but feels guilty all while trying to raise his kids. He really starts to question this when he meets Tilly who is conveniently opening a business next to him. She is beautiful, smart, and funny... He also LOVES her accent.

His family and kids also seem to love Tilly. She is also trying to move on from a rough past full of heartache. She is not sure she is ready to move on, but knows she should. Angelo really causes her to question if she is really ready.

You are going to LOVE all of the side characters in this book. They are magnificent like always.

I will say after reading this I NEED MORE Tilly and Angelo. As always, there are a few steamy scenes that you will also love.

Be ready to feel ALL of the emotions....

In the prologue Angelo shreds my heart (and his own) as he says goodbye to his wife, who's dying of cancer. Years later, he's still grieving when his young daughter, Tate, shreds his heart again when she very calmly informs him that he needs to get out, get back on the saddle again (after having heard the analogy from her Auntie Nee) and find her brother Brax and herself a mommy. Ouch. When Angelo's broken heart tries to reason with her that they have a mommy already, Tate puts it best: "She's not here anymore, Daddy. Brax needs one, and so do I." Well hell, what does a grieving father say to that?!

And then he meets his new neighbor, the luscious Tilly, who's opening up a bakery next to the bar. And something is forged that in meeting. They can see in each other a shared pain. The shared pain that only someone who's lost their love can see in another. But is that pain a deterrent or will it become the backbone for a new relationship between Angelo and Tilly?

It's no secret that I love the Men of Inked: Southside series. I've fallen in love with Lucio and Delilah and Daphne and Leo as they fell in love with each other, but up until now, I don't think my heart had been broken by a Gallo until Angelo's heart got seemingly irreparably shattered as his wife succumbed to cancer. And then Chelle Bliss had the nerve to give him a heroine whose heart was in the same condition as Angelo's. But she knew what she was doing, because it absolutely works for their story. It works so well, so very, very well because who better to understand the other's grief but someone who experiences the same exact grief? Throw in the absolutely most adorable, precocious adult-like little girl, and the entire loving but loud Gallo family, and what you've got in Hook is Grade A romance gold. Gah, I'm still smiling (and crying a little on the inside) even though I've been done reading for awhile. Hook is everything you could possibly want in the best kind of story - starting off with two leads who absolutely fit each other perfectly, even though they never, ever thought they'd find love again. Their relationship develops organically and naturally, not too quickly but not a slow burn, either. Not too much angst, but a lot of feels and emotions as the two fight their way through their past loves to find their present love with each other. Add in adorable kids, and a whole loving but rambunctious extended family that includes Tilly's brother-in-law, and Hook is by far the best thing this author has written, and definitely the best yet of the Men of Inked: Southside series. Vinnie's story is coming soon, though, (Hustle), and he's been such an intriguing side character throughout this series that he might top his brother Angelo as the king of the Gallos. Before he arrives though, I am happy letting Angelo and Tilly's story reign as my favorite Chelle Bliss story and my favorite of this series.

Hook is the third book in the Men of Inked Southside series and I think this would have to be the best of the best. A story of two broken people, torn between the pain of the past and the guilt of the future. However it sometimes takes two halves of the same torment to complete a whole worth fighting for. Angelo and Tilly's story is emotional and at times coats your soul in darkness and light all at the same time. Tears will be shed, laughter will erupt when you least expect it to but ultimately this book will steal your heart. Just be warned it will not only be these two that find their way deep into your heart, it might just be one feisty little character that steals the show. Hook is a book of second chances, moving forward, learning to love again and craving lots and lots of cake.

Oh my heart... I think I cried the entire book. It started with an ugly cry, then I cried because I was so happy and then sad and then happy again... man my eyes a puffy from this book!! And it’s absolutely the best of the series so far.

The Gallos are at it again being busy trying to hook up Angelo but now his 7 year old daughter is pushing her way to getting a mommy. Tate stole my heart and Tully’s too.

I love Tilly from the start and knew she was perfect for Angelo. Two broken souls that fate stepped in and brought together.

I love the southside Gallos just as much as their Florida cousins and this book was just everything! Read this book, read this series. It’s just so so good.

Hero and heroine both lost their spouses.

Five years since heroine lost her husband.
Three years since hero lost his wife.

Heroine hasn’t slept with anyone since husband died.
Hero has had a sexual relationship with a childhood friend since wife died.

Heroine’s only sexual partner before hero was her husband. Virtually a virgin
Hero is not a manwhore, but the his relationship with his childhood friend after his wife’s death was justified on the basis of “a man needing release/scratching an itch”

So only men can do this? It’s even more strange since it seems like the hero holds more grief for his wife than the heroine holds for her husband...that’s purely subjective though

My last issue has to do with the kids. The little girl Tate was cute. I understand how fathers are with their little girls, but the little brother Brax was completely overlooked. Why did the author even write in a second child?

It was even surprising since little Brax was the youngest and Tate was older. Typically we see cuteness overload from the youngest, but not in this book. I wish both kiddos had their moments. I felt that the hero and everyone else LOVED Tate, but did not get the same feeling for Brax

Oh those Gallo men and the women they love. I just adore this series and with Hook, getting Angelo's story put me through a whirlwind of emotions.

With the loss of his young wife, this widower with two children never expected to ever find love again. But the feisty and immensely charming Tilly broke through his hardened heart and what they experience together is the best kind of bliss there is. They are perfect together and his adorable kids, Tate and Brax, warm right up to the cupcake baker and find the substitute mom they so desperately need.

Tilly is a great character and she fits right in with the rest of the boisterous and very loving Gallo clan. With tears in my eyes over difficult memories that continually surface for both Angelo and the widowed Tilly, I could always count on a Gallo to make me laugh when things got a bit too heavy. This family is THE best and now Tilly knows that too.

A great addition to this Southside series, I can't wait for brother Vinnie's story next and wouldn't mind a bit more from Tilly's brother-in-law, Roger. He definitely has a story to tell and I hope the Author gives him his due as well.

ALL THE STARS for ALL THE FEELS!!!!
When you can't even get through the prologue because you have tears streaming down your face, you know this book is going to RUIN you! Angelo's book is one that I have been waiting for since meeting him in Maneuver and I knew it would not be an easy one....because knowing his story means knowing his devastation and his heartbreak. Angelo and Tilly's story was one that gripped me, mesmerized me and had me spellbound from beginning to end. Their story is filled with heartache and loss but so much more....a second chance to love, to live, to find another that can and is willing to make you whole again. You will cry, you will laugh and you will cry some more but count on one adorable little girl to leave you smiling.....I promise! I am a fan of Chelle and have read every Gallo book she's written but this story....this is the one, the one that left me breathless, the one that will always come to mind when asked which Gallo is my favorite. Take a chance on this beautiful story about finding love again and try to tell me it's not your FAVORITE!

5 stars is not NEARLY enough for this beauty!

I've said it before, but it bears repeating--when a book from Chelle Bliss (be it ARC or purchased) comes to your kindle, you need to stop what you're doing and dive right into her world. And I will say--YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

Grab a box of tissues, because right off the bat Chelle will tear apart your emotions with the tragedy Angelo Gallo faces right off the bat. But through that tragedy, comes a new sense of life and love so powerful and true, that you will fall in love with these characters tenfold, and read this story over and over again.

When Tillie comes into his life, Angelo is blown away by her beauty and her spunk. This feisty girl will prove to Angelo that love is worth fighting for the second time around, even in the face of tragedy.

Two lost souls come together, and through Chelle's words, form a relationship so powerful and true, you'll beg for your own Angelo Gallo to appear in your life.

Omg!!! Chelle Bliss is absolutely killing me!!! How in the world am I supposed to pick my favorite book boyfriend of hers if she keeps doing this kind of sh*t!!!! And I haven't even got to read all of her books yet,so what am I gonna do when I catch up? But this one oh this one you will need some Kleenex's with!! Angelo and Tilly have been through so much in their lives and yet they both deserve happiness but don't feel like they should. The paths they both went own will break your heart and you feel like you are living in the moment with them and only an extremely great author can do that. And I really can't wait for Tate to get a book...lol I love that little girl, she reminds me of my granddaughter except my granddaughter is only 3...lol!!! I am loving this series and I highly highly recommend it!!! - By Tina

Each Gallo gets hotter

I fell in love with Angelo and Tillys book from the first page !! A love like theirs is rare, but to find it twice in lifetime is even more rare. When the story unfolds, both of them have been in a deep depression having lost their spouses a few years ago. Each trying to find their way in the lonely world. And when Tilly opens up a cupcake bakery next door to the bar, Sparks fly and there is an immediate connection between her and Angelo. Their story is heartwarming and has all the feels as they delve into their future together!! You will want to one click this story because you won't want to miss it!!!

5 star Review Hook ( Men of Inked: Southside #3) by Chelle Bliss

I have read many books by Chelle Bliss but Hook is my absolute favourite.

I knew this was going to be an emotional roller coaster of a read when Ms. Bliss had me crying ugly tears within the first few pages and also in the last chapter.

Angelo Gallo is a man who was shattered by the death of his wife; left to raise their two young children with the support of his family.

Tilly's is the new owner of the cupcake shop next door to the Gallo pub; a military widow.

Both of them, have been devastated by the death of their spouses. Can Angelo and Tilly, two broken souls, come together and heal each other?

I have been waiting impatiently for Angelo and Tilly’s story since Chelle Bliss announced it. Have you ever anticipated a book that once received you didn’t want to start because you knew once you finished, you would have a book hangover?

That’s what happened with Hook. I was completely blown away by the emotions that Ms. Bliss drew out of me.

My heart broke for both Angelo and Tilly at times and I was so excited when they decided to move forward with their blossoming relationship and fell deeply in love.

I loved how Angelo’s family and Tilly’s brother in law Roger, supported them. Not only are the Gallo men outstanding but so are the women.

I love the Gallo family and when I start a new book it feels like I am coming home. They are all such great characters and Hook is a fantastic example of the love of family and what they will do for each other and those they care about.

This was a hot, steamy story, full of emotions which will keep you on the edge of your seat. I have a new favourite Gallo.

One click now, you will not be disappointed. Chelle Bliss has another winner on her hands in my opinion.

I’ve been curious about Chelle Bliss, having seen the name around for years … when one of my local libraries suggested this listen, I thought, ‘It’s time to check her out!’ I had no idea what to expect other than … it’s obviously romance.
I had to wait a week or so for my turn at a copy, usually a good sign.

My thoughts …
It’s your typical second-chance romance, nothing really original going on. Yet, there’s good writing, likable characters, and this author clearly put some time/energy/thought into developing the main character and her world—respect on that front.
The writing at times is a bit better than most romance novels, with a heart-wrenching scene or two.
Example:
“I think we’re too broken to be with anyone else … but together, we’re whole.”

The mutual attraction and respective denial is … definitely done to death in this genre but … it keeps me mildly entertained on that front too. < This is a compliment as anyone who can take a done-to-death vibe and not have me totally bored has talent.

I’ll likely explore more from this author, if for nothing else, to at least keep me company when I’m working. Thanks so much, Miss Bliss, for making the audio widely avail—I can’t afford those ACX-exclusive titles.

Overall:
3.5 stars.
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Audio -
Great performance! Dual-narration and both have great voices, read well, and perform well. 4-star performance.

*The end was a bit of a let-down, only because it ended like just about every other romance novel I’ve ever read/heard.

Tearjerker!! Have tissues ready!
Tilly & Angelo are two broken hearts that lost their other half way too soon. Both grieving the death of their spouses for years, no one could really understand each other more. They are caught in between grieving the loves of their lives and feeling guilty for possibly finding new joy. Moving on is the most difficult of all even though they know that's what their spouses wanted for them.
My heart was in my throat the whole time I was reading. For some reason the pages and words kept getting blurry. I don't know why. It must have been the wind, or dust, or ... who am I kidding? My eyes were leaking more than a broken faucet. Have many tissues at the ready!
I loved this story so much! It has the right amount of everything to really feel their pain and indecision and to be totally immersed in their world. And of course those Gallo men are all swoonworthy. The entire family is wonderful!
I loved Angelo & Tilly and I can't wait for Vinnie's story up next!

Finally, a book I can totally relate to. Instead of tears I was "Yes, that is exactly how I felt!!!!". The author doesn't know me but she got me. The guilt, the fear, the guessing, the pressure--all of it has been me.

What am I talking about you might ask? I was one of those people left to raise a seven year old on my own. For all of you that haven't experienced it but love to judge this book should be your next read. For those of you that know someone that needs support and hope grab them a copy.

Angelo and Tilly are my heroes. I can't begin to express how wonderful I felt reading their journey and that of his little children. Just beautiful. I will admit I am a little hungry and could go for one of Tilly's cupcakes.

Chelle has done it again!! Angelo......mmmmm.... I loved this so much...it tugs at your heart, makes you cry, but makes you laugh...The Gallo boys do not disappoint in this one and Angelo might just be the hottest one yet! Angelo and Tilly both know the pain of loss and the fear of putting yourself out there again. When Angelo hears a crash coming form the new cupcake shop next door he is mesmerized by the foul mouthed beauty standing in the kitchen. The chemistry between them is sizzling, but neither is willing to make a first move. In true Gallo family fashion Betty, with the help of Tate, makes sure they keep running into each other. This has everything you could want from a love story. It's got pain, guilt, soul, and so much passion and love that I couldn't put it down!!

Where I appreciate the storyline and what Angelo and Tilly went through, I had a hard time with the relationship... was there one? It felt like they were pushed together by his family, and the attraction between them didn't have time to develop on its own. I missed the discovery of feelings for each other as they realized they had them. I could identify more with Angelo as he dealt with his children and balanced his life between them and work. I must admit that halfway through the book, I stopped reading it as it lacked depth for me. The book tackles some painful issues that are such a part of life, but I could not finish it.

**Too cheesy 🧀
**Forced relationship (family)
**Both widowed

This story was everything I expected and more. Chelle Bliss is one of my very favourite authors and she never fails to deliver an amazingly memorable story. I felt it all with this emotionally charged book - I cried and I even thought my heart would explode with happiness. So be warned you’re going to have to break out the tissues for this one... Hook is Men of Inked:Southside book #3 and is Angelo Gallo’s story. Years ago he promised his dying wife on her death bed that he would love again - for their children to have a mother and for him not to be alone. It’s years later and he’s never been anywhere near remotely ready to contemplate fulfilling that promise. Until maybe now... After reading this Angelo is officially my favourite Gallo brother!
