Heart Hassle #1

Signs of Cupidity

Rate this book
You'd think that basically being in charge of love would be an epic job, right? Wrong. Sure, I can blow some Lust into people's faces and watch the show, but I can't actually participate. It gets old, trust me. Same goes for love. I can pass it out like sugar-free lollipops at a dentist's office, but I can't get any love for myself. It totally sucks. I used to consider myself a hopeless romantic, so why wouldn't I choose to become a cupid? Sounds like a good idea, right? Wrong again. They don't call us stupid cupids for nothing. I'm stuck in this never-ending afterlife where I'm invisible, lonely, and bitter as hell. And yeah, I'm probably responsible for some terrible matchmaking out there. Sorry, not sorry. All my bad cupid'ing might be why I was exiled from the human realm. You can only do so much before the cupid bosses get all huffy. Unfortunately, my bitterness carried over into the new realm, and then I attacked a fae prince with Love Arrows. Accidentally. Okay, not accidentally. But hey, he deserved it. What I didn't expect was for him to retaliate and hit my ass with some crazy magic mojo strong enough to push me into the physical realm. Whoa. That's right. This cupid just got a real body. And you know what that means...Now, it's my turn to get some. Love, I mean. Get your head out of the gutter. Wink, wink bitches. Author's Note: This is a medium-burn reverse harem story. It includes explicit language and sexual situations. Intended for audiences 18 years and older. As this is a series, there will be a cliffhanger.

A Fantasy Reverse Harem Story.

This book made a cheater out of me. Ask me how, I dare you. Oh all right, don't be so pushy, I'll tell you. You know how it usually goes, you pick up a book, you read it, you form your opinion while reading it, you put it down satisfied. Sometimes if the book is not doing it for you - you dnf it. Right? Weeeeeeell. That's not exactly how it happened for me this time. This time I picked up a book, started reading it, realized the writing felt flat but the story just seemed interesting enough to follow. But then it got more and more tedious, so how did I cheat? I skipped through it. I wanted to see where it was going and yes, if I had to be absolutely honest, I wanted to get to the sexy parts. Because, hello, reverse harem, right? There was bound to be sexy stuff in this damn unreadable book. Sure, it might seem a bit desperate, but hey, I'm on a dry spell, so don't judge! So I skipped paragraphs, I skipped pages, I skipped dreadful inner monologues just to find out... Wait for it. Waaiit for it... There was no sex!

Hell, this was not what I expected when I picked up a reverse harem book. But then I thought, well, there's like five books in the series, maybe the author was just taking it slow. Right? So I skipped through the second book too, reading enough that I saw how the story progressed, how the characters fared. And I maybe got to like 80 % or so and then I stomped my feet and said: "Enough is enough". I couldn't handle the bad writing and the annoying as hell MH, and still - no sex. So I DNFed it. I couldn't even cheat all the way through. So there, I'm a half-way cheater!

Over and out

I'm in love!! It's exactly what I needed while trying not to have a nervous breakdown with all of this terrible weather that's freezing my pipes! 😂 I laughed or had a smile on my face the entire time I read it!

The characters are perfection! I adore the heroine and all three heroes on so many levels! 😍 Their banter is everything!

The whole scenario going on makes the story hilarious, entertaining, adorable, and so much fun!

I honestly can't think of a single thing that I didn't enjoy, but brace yourselves......

There isn't any sex in this one.

It's definitely going down in the next one though, and the way the story is written made me not miss it too much.

😱 I know! I can't believe I said that shit either. 🤣 I wanted it to happen, but it made sense that it would happen in the next installment instead. When it does, I know it's going to be hot af with those guys! 🔥

I'm going to jump straight into Bonds of Cupidity soon which is probably another reason I'm not as concerned with that particular aspect. Lol I've got nothing to do but worry and wait! This author is helping me through a stressful time, and I'm so thankful. 🙌🏼

Paranormal RH fans, this one's for you!

I finally caved and read this book. 1000% glad I did. What's not to love, you have Cupids, The Fae, witty banter! The whole shebang!
Emelle is hands down one of my favourite FMC. The way she takes everything in stride and her humour *Chef's kiss *
I can't wait to see her relationship with her anchors evolve. I also hope to see more of Belren.

✅ Hilarious main character
✅ Sexy secondary characters
✅ Original concept of cupids
✅ World-building
✅ Funny and light read
✅ Pace
✅🆗 Plot / Intrigue
🆗 Sexual tension / Smut
🆗 Reverse-Harem (not there yet, but it’s coming in the next book)

People wish and the stars try to grant, but even as the stars sacrifice themselves and fall, so many wishes are wasted, just as so much love is lost.

I like the fact that this story is based on cupids and their power to gift love, flirt touches, and lust. Emelle is one of many cupids, and she is bored with her job, and also jealous because all she did for the past 50 years is watch people fall in love and have sex, while she is stuck in the Veil, where no one can see her, hear her or touch her. Because of that bitterness, she sucks at her job and doesn't take it seriously. Since she does not meet her quotas, she is sent to the Fae realm as punishment, where she plays cupid at the castle for a while, allowing her to indirectly get involved in the politics of the realm since she overhears important conversations and witness everything the prince and princess do. Of course, she gets in trouble because she is so clumsy and does not seem to have a survival instinct, and she ends up fleeing the castle and being held prisoner on a deserted island by 3 sexy male Genfins (a race of faes).

The beginning is a little weaker, but then it gets really good. The pace is good, there is action, funny moments, hilarious conversations, and some sexual tension. The reverse harem part of the series is very mild in this book, but it's clear where this is going, and this sets the foundation for a good RH dynamic in the future.

“It’s like I landed on Sexy-Guy-Island, population: 3.”

Parts of this book reminded me a little bit of Four Psychos and Trickery… The girl that couldn't be seen, heard, or touched for so long and felt so lonely finally has a physical body is similar to Four Psycho, but it was much better developed in this book in my opinion. Overall, Signs of Cupidity was better written than Four Psychos. The plot is well-built and well-explained. No info-dumping or weird useless interactions. There is also the fact that Emelle identified the males with numbers. I don't know if it's a secret RH rule that I don't know of, but the last 3 RH series that I read all had male characters identified with numbers.

I roll my eyes even though he can’t see and I start to lightly wog. You know, the way you pretend to jog but it’s really no faster than walking, just bouncier? Yeah, that’s my goal. Fake it. I’m super good at wogging.

Emelle reminded me of Willa in Trickery. They both are clumsy (though Willa is definitely the worse) and they have a tendency to say anything that comes to their mind, without any filter. She also has similar inner monologues and completely random rambling that were just so funny. Emelle is quirky, funny, and a great main character, she made me laugh out loud many times. The writing is just so casual and light, I loved it, and it was a great book to give my brain a break for a while! If you enjoyed the vibe of Trickery, you will enjoy the vibe of this book for sure.

I’ve been lonely for a long time, and I know that my loneliness, added together with my insatiable curiosity and general desire to participate in all things sexy, I perhaps have a skewed outlook. But no matter what I want, or how attracted I am to these guys, I would never jeopardize their future. Despite our rough start, I want the best for them. Most of the time. Usually. Nearly all the time.

While Emelle is a funny and bubbly character most of the time, she is also very lonely, because being a cupid means being invisible to everyone but other cupids, so she spent her life helping people fall in love or lust but never could experience it herself. While there is no major character development in this book (it is just not that type of book), I loved Emelle’s "journey" to find out how to interact with real people now that she could be seen and touched, and how she was finally able to have something similar to what she'd witnessed all those years.

“Ronak could surprise us all and become my new favorite.” Ronak walks by just then.
“Nope.”
“Don’t fight it. It’s only a matter of time before you want that slot, Ro-Ro.”
“Don’t call me that.”
“You got it, Ro-Ro.”

The three males Emelle meets seem like assholes at first, but they quickly grew on me. I liked Evert's flirt and teasing, Sylred kind and caring personality, and even broody Ronak became likable as the story moved forward. There is flirting and banter, but don't go into this book expecting smut, because there is no real spice here (but it's coming in the second and third book, don't worry 😉).

“He looks at me incredulously. "Cute little kitty cat tail?"
"Yeah. It's adorable." I say, watching it flit back and forth behind him. "Can I pet it?"
He makes a weird choking sound.
"Whoa. Are you gonna have a fit or something?"
"I... you..."
"What? Is petting your tail like a no-go? I haven't read the genfin rulebook. Is it off-limits? Too bad. It looks so soft. Maybe when I get out of here, I'll find some other genfin who will let me pet his tail. Or I bet Evert will let me pet his.”

Overall, it is a very enjoyable book, funny, light, and quick to read, and I definitely recommend it to any RH lover looking for a quick, silly, and entertaining read (that will become spicier in the next books 😉)!

Well, this is exactly what I was expecting it to be and I'm pretty happy with it!

CUPIDS WERE UNIQUE and I enjoyed this new type of magic. An invisible creature whose job is to blow flirtations and lust around at people is pretty hilarious! I just wish Emelle had used her powers more frequently, but I guess she didn't really have many opportunities

EMELLE'S LONELINESS was written really well. If your job was to make other people fall in love and have sex and you could never talk to anyone, let alone feel anything, life would definitely get pretty lonely

THE ROMANCE was super tame so far. There's obviously a lot of flirting and banter, but there was only one kiss in the entire book! Seems like this is a trend in the rh books I've read so far and I'm not sure if I like it haha. While the slow burn makes the eventual payoff feel soooo amazing, I am super impatient! I am here for some trash smut please 😏

THE WRITING STYLE was super casual and absolutely hilarious. Emelle was so funny and I love the back and forth she had with each of the guys. But let's be honest... Evert is clearly the front runner right now - I mean tousled dark hair, bright blue eyes, sinfully flirtatious, what's not to love?! 😂❤️

Overall, I was looking for something fun and easy to read and this definitely delivered, although I'm ready for the steam to take it up a notch in the next book!

Wow! I totally loved this book!!! I was super interested after I read the blurb, and I was hooked right away! The FMC is so awesome and such a loveable character. She is adorable, funny, sweet, and sassy!

Quotes:

“It doesn’t matter if it’s a tiny stick hut or a sprawling castle; if you want the scandals and the rumors, you go to the kitchen. Everyone talks in the kitchen. I think it’s the food’s fault. People go in there ready to open their mouths.”

“Gods, food is delicious. I want to eat more. I want to eat everything. Gimme all the foods. From now on, it’s food everywhere, all the time, every kind. I want to constantly stuff my face. Screw relationships, I’ll make food my new love. I’ve clearly been misplacing all my fantasies on love and sex. I should’ve just focused my pining on food this whole time.”

“Inside, I secretly freak out like a schoolgirl with a crush. On the outside, I’m as cool as a cucumber.”

this was actually really fun, but first things first: this is practically the same book as Four Psychos. the same storyline, same heroine, same relationship, etc.
still, i guess that made it a good story!

Signs of Cupidity was just some easy, light fun from my kindle recommendations. reverse-harem and very entertaining, it made me smile throughout the book. pretty good!

Cupid : 1
My expectations : 0

I really wanted to give this 5 stars but the similarities between two well known RH are just too obvious and numerous to overlook.

Despite that I absolutely freaking loved it

It's gets the Gaby Feel Good RH of the year award

Maybe because my expectations were low and I knew it was gonna be a rip-off it didn't bother me.

This is one that will make you laugh, just the right burn, NOT YA (hooray) doesn't require much thought and it's on KU!

So funny, cute, and I ate it all up!

You'd think being a cupid would be all kind of fun. Shooting people with arrows all freaking day would ease the anger from terrible break ups - right? However, the no touching, eating, and the talking to your only friend (yourself) does take the fun out of that job. It sounds terrible and I wouldn't like that job either.

Emelle has had enough of people's shit. She gets in trouble while roaming the human world and is sent to fae world. There she thinks she has finally made it. Has she finally found the perfect couple? Nope, everything goes wrong. She gets so freaking mad that she just continually shoots arrows at this guy, who happens to be a prince. He doesn't take it too kindly because he somehow knows he's getting hit with something.

Fast forward a couple of seconds, and she's falling after getting hit by his magic. Eventually she lands-ish in pretty bad shape. Luckily for her, she has three gorgeous men to sort of take her. However, they actually keep her as prisoner because they don't trust the demon that fell from the sky.

Throughout her stay, she eventually worms her way into their hearts. There's so much sexual tension in this book between this group of people. I wanted something to happen.. and what I got was a kiss. A FREAKING KISS. I wanted more and I demand more.. so maybe I will get that in the next book?? Maybe.

Other than that, I love Emelle. She's hilarious. Then there's Not-First, Second, and Third and they were pretty great too. After the ending, I have a couple of questions that I hope will be answered in book 2.

Taking a quick break from my regular programming to write a quick love note to this trilogy. I never wrote a review because I read these books in my pre-review era.

This trilogy (+the epilogue novella) is one of my all-time favorite comfort reads. I don't even know how many times I have re-read this trilogy (probably more than 10 tbh). I love Emelle and her guys so much. No matter how many times I read this trilogy, these characters make me laugh out loud even though I KNOW what jokes are coming.

Sure, the book is not without flaws. In fact, when I first read this book, I rated it 4 stars. However, I think about this trilogy so much, and I miss the world and characters so often, that all 3 books are 5-stars for that reason alone. This trilogy is my warm cozy blanket. I love it so much. Few can compete for me.

Also, Raven Kennedy is one of my auto-buy authors. Between all of her Cupidity universe books, the Plated Prisoners series, and the Pack of Misfits series, I really think her characters, world-building, and writing are all excellent and addictive.

I don't know how to feel about this one 🤣 I love it, I love the characters, especially the heroine, Emelle. She is HILARIOUS and a joy to be around. Hard not to fall in love with her. And the three dudes are entertaining as hell.

I'm just not sure if I like the world. It's too imaginary for my liking. The high faes have pastel-colored skin and hair. They live on floating islands. The main guys....have furry tails. I mean it's fine, just not really my thing I guess. I like my fantasy as close to real life as possible, so if you have no problem with that I think you'd love this series. Everything else is amazing so far. The romance, the banter. The book is very easy to read & well written.

I still don't know if I want to continue, but I might stick around just for the romance. I don't care about the fae politics that much and the romance is strong enough to stand on its own without me being too invested in the fighting/politics.

Okay, if you like C.M. Owen's...errr...I mean Kristy Cunning's The Dark Side series (Four Psychos, Three Trials, Two Kingdoms), then you will probably like Kennedy's Heart Hassle series. The thing is though, you will probably pick up on a lot of similarities too. The similarities were enough that at times I wondered if Kennedy straight up stole some pages out of Cunning's book, but Kennedy delivered an intriguing enough of a story that I actually didn't care if she did. The H is ridiculous and annoying, but she made me laugh. Rather than wishing her death, which I normally do with weak and annoying female leads, I actually found myself rooting for her. She is a klutz and absurd, but I couldn't find myself hating her for that.

This series is a reverse harem series (my new addiction), and I found myself very intrigued by each of the guys that are the potential harem. As with most RH series, we are given the "nice" one, the "carefree" one, and the oh so "alpha male tortured soul" one. With that being said though, I think we might also get a "mysterious" one too. I'm not too sure where the author is planning on taking this series, but I like what she's cooking up so far.

I wouldn't call this super slow burn, because we get some super charged moments, but it's no insta-love either (THANK GOD); there are no sexy times in the book. If you are looking to get your rocks off by reading this book...you are going to be sorely disappointed.

I had a lot of fun while reading this, and I'm looking forward to the next in the series (whenever the hell that may be).

The lack of real smut got on my nerves after a while, and the slow burn was really annoying at times. I hope the next book would do better in that regard 👋

I should have probably read the synopsis before starting this book. I'm not really in the mood for smut rn..

this was sooo fun!! basically a fantasy romcom: Cupid wants to fall in love? sign me up 🤭

Emelle is sooo funny - love her💕 I really like her and how her brain works! also the fact that she isn't one of those fmc that have never done any - let's just say fighting - in her life and becomes a pro after 2.5 hours - she actually has to train/try and hates every moment of it and it takes time 🙌🏼

this was such a fun, cute and easy read 😍

I tried reading Gild or whatever it's called a few years back and really didn't like it, but this book is written very differently and I would've never guesses it's by the same author 😂

I am pleasantly surprised by this book. A couple of reviews I read said it was similar to Four Psychos but I didn't see it. Yes,she was invincible like Paca and she had a fun personality but IMO that's where it all ends.

RH on a whole is a hit or miss, you have to be convincing pairing up 3-6 guys with one girl and I felt this book really sold on that. I thought I was going to find it passable but I enjoyed it. Can't wait to read the next one.

Well I absolutely loved this book. The heroine was amazing, snarky and so prone to word vomit it’s not funny. Then again for someone whose been invisible for ages and never has contact or conversation with another, I imagine I’d be a little overzealous myself. I fell in love with this book early on when the heroine so bluntly dropped that she liked to start orgies when bored. It only got funnier from there. After being banished to the Fae realm she’s actually excited for all the love she can spread or orgies she can start. The human realm wasn’t all she hoped what with rampant infidelity and people falling in and out of love so quick she felt useless. Her purpose becomes creating a lasting love between the Fae Prince and his Princess. But turns out the prince is a total douche and well, Emelle doesn’t like that at all and she kind of loses her shit. She was honestly so damn fun and I cannot wait to see where the story goes-from here. She now finds herself anchors to three hotties stuck on an island who she may or may not (want to admit) she likes. However the trios banishment is soon to end leaving Emelle’s Future highly uncertain and I’m ready for what else is to come.

This was a surprisingly enjoyable read!

All of the reviews point out similarities between two reasonably big hitters in the RH world, the Curse the Gods series (many people's gateway drug to RH) and the Four Psychos series. And they'd be right. Emelle has the clumsy, humourous attitude of Willa, the with the non-corporal, desperate for touch/interaction of Paca, as well as Willa's rating of the men by numbers and Paca's constant changung favourites.

However, for me this didn't feel like a rip off of those books, as the writer may have used similar characteristics (intentional or not, I'm not sure) but she did her own thing with it on the whole.

Putting that aside, this was a fun, light read, with a MC who was likeable in her vulnerability and naiveity and the three men who were all characters in their own right. There was some good build.uo.on tension and no insta-love! I really liked the way the relationships were forming and the tension was done just right.

This also made my laugh aloud many times, which was nice!

Overall, this doesn't have the emotional depth of say the Redemption Saga, but it's entertaining, the whole cupid thing is quite original and the romance is done just right for my tastes, so I would definitely recommend RH fans who have exhausted a lot of the genre give this a go if they haven't already!

Ever since I read "The Plated Prisoner" series by RK, I wanted to read more of her books.
I went blind in this one and once again, I wasn't dissapointed.
What drew me in? Fae.
Oh, but have you read a book with Cupids? No? Well, now it's time to try one.
This book is a NA Reverse-Harem Paranormal Romance book. There are no sex scenes in this one, but I heard the next book is spicy. We shall see 🤭

Our girl is a Cupid with no name, no corporeal body and no memories of her past life. She's a sweet girl with a smart mouth, sometimes she's blabbering like a fool, but she's funny as hell

I love this girl's attitude and the banter in this book is so good, I literally laughed my ass off.
The guys are so different, I love them all!
We have the grumpy one, the sweet and shy one and the funny and flirty one.
I can't wait to see how their relationship evolves, what changes and how they'll overcome the obstacles thrown their way.

Ok. I loved this.
I’m a little peeved that it’s single POV, but Emelle’s thoughts and sarcasm really make up for the lack of the guys POV. For now. I’m still crossing my fingers, desperately hoping that we get multiPOV in the other books.

This was a really good start to the series. I’m not sure what’s going to happen next but I’m super excited to find out.

I’m also super excited for the steamy bits to start. This book was just a lot of vague descriptions of other people going at it while she was doing Cupid duty. And then a lot of flirting and banter while with the guys.
I’m excited to see where that goes.

I’m just excited in general.
I really like all the characters and their banter and all the different drama that’s popped up. I’m super interested in this character she meets at the end and if we’ll see them again.

I’m excited. I want to know more. I want to know everything. I’m kind of kicking myself for waiting so long to read this series.
But so far it’s been a fantastic beginning to the new year.

I LOVED THIS BOOK SO DAMN MUCH! I devoured it and I can't wait to read the next one, but please tell me there are more than two books? *sad face* Edit: the author said there's going to be three books, maybe four. YAY.

Signs of Cupidity was hilarious, fun, sexy and just overall amazing. The plot was original and unique. The concept was really interesting as I've never read another book with a Cupid in it. The heroes were all yummy (especially Evert and his flirting). This book was just the perfect combo for me. The descriptions of this world (or should I say worlds?) were so well done that I could easily picture it in my mind.

The ending left me wanting more. If this author publishes more books, I'll be reading them for sure.

Wow! That was a ride and surprisingly goooood!

The start was rather slow and then it kicks into it and the more I read, the more I liked it!

Since this is the start of the series, it doesn't have much romance. These guys aren't looking at her like she's going to be it for them. Tho there is some thinking she's hot.

It's a slow burn!

But wow, that ending! I did NOT see that coming.

I am super excited to continue this series.

I absolutely loved book 1 in this series, the h's voice was fricking hilarious and I had many laugh out loud moments. 4 stars for a book with no sex is a lot for me 😂. I loved the originality of the plot as I'd never read about a cupid mc before. I enjoyed the freshness of her role and her hilarious voice.

Now book 2 threw me for a loop with the addition of another male especially as he was a completely different species as well as the insta connection but I rolled with it because he was a sweetheart. After a bit of a boring start it picked up and delivered great humor with some heat. 3.5*

By book 3 however what had been amusing just became overdone and annoying and I was so sad at this installment. After enjoying the first couple books I really wanted to like book 3 but the humor started to feel crass as well as the book felt drawn out for no reason. I mean they'd have sex at the weirdest times and they'd be just waiting around while so much was happening around them it just couldn't be believed. Also it reeked of convenience as the h developed so many awesome powers that she took forever to effectively use. Humor can only take you so far 2.5*

Book 3.5 was almost cute, an extended epilogue we get to see the family living together and cute babies but again some of the humor was just reaching a bit too much. I however love an epilogue so 3.5* in gratitude

All in all maybe if this had been a duet plus the extended epilogue I might've been able to maintain the high ofbook 1 straight to the end.

Emelle is a discontented cupid. She thought spreading love through the world would be romantic and fun, but quickly got jaded when confronted with a bunch of womanizers, cheaters, etc. She's lost her faith. Add in that she exists in the Veil where no one can see her, talk to her, or feel her, and she is a bit depressed. She gets transferred from the human realm to the Fae realm where a marriage is going to take place between the Prince and Princess. She is reinvigorated when it appears that true love could actually occur between the two of them, but then she finds out that the Prince is a womanizer and cares nothing for his sweet princess. Emelle gets a little angry and

I enjoyed this book! I liked Emelle - she's funny, fun, quirky, and sassy. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I even liked it when she was whiny - it was funny at the time. The premise is different too, and I even liked the slow burn of it. I think I might have been annoyed if she just slept with everyone in sight when she became corporeal. Clearly, these genfin guys are her harem, but so far I only think Evert and Sylred are on board. Ronak seems to be inaccessible still. I'm looking forward to seeing how things progress in the next book.
