How do you come out to your parents tastefully? What can you do to cope with the straight world, if not embrace it? How do you wear a dress like a real man? From the serious to uproarious, Ms. Behavior (a.k.a. Meryl Cohen) answers the pressing questions that make for a gracious and proper "alternative lifestyle." All the bases are the do's and don't's of dating, dealing with your lover's less-than-welcoming family, protocol at the health club, and more. This is the gay and lesbian answer to Emily Post, a much-needed, irreverent, yet always useful guide to manners in a "brave new world that has such people in it." "Ms. Behavior's uncannily perceptive etiquette rules are words to live by, and laugh by." (The Village Voice)
I finally gave a little giggle about 80% of the way through, so apparently I am not the target audience for this particular humor. Very disappointed at the nearly complete lack of bisexual+ representation (despite people with a plural sexuality are more than half of the queer community). There was one sentence on page 243 about bisexuals though. It's a neat historical document. Young people won't understand the idea of paying for long distance calls. :)
I am loving this! It is hilarious but dated. I would even go as far as saying that it's more hilarious than it should be because it's dated. I'm almost finished reading it. It's very much worth the time and effort of reading it. Snarky and sarcastic, full immersed in stereotypes and unapologetic about it. It's just my kinda book.
